    Don't expose your eyes just to see the eclipse, it's not worth it. Better watch it on television. I damaged my eyes watching the 2017 eclipse.

      @vmobile890. Apparently welding lenses are not recommended...just saying. 😎

      According to what I've read, welding lenses of a minimum grade 12, preferably 14, are okay, but a pair of ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses, like the ones I'll be wearing, are better.

    China is selling counterfit glasses in US, complete with the ISO number. Learn how to test your glasses.

      Tons of places have them locally for a couple bucks. I highly recommend the plastic variety as the paper ones tend to be quite small and don't stay on your face. The first brand I managed to find on Amazon that was also on the AAS list was "Medical King", and they seem legit, notably darker than the random Chinese brand I bought from before I looked into them.

    You can actually directly look at the sun during totality since it's complete blocked by the moon. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about.

    • @stevevernon1978
      @stevevernon1978 Месяц назад

      yes. they did NOT point that out, but as you say, during TOTALITY, take your "eclipse glasses" OFF and see the Corona.

    • @jamesbullo
      @jamesbullo Месяц назад +3

      Absolute totality depends on where you live and does not last very long. Protect your eyes, you wont get another pair.

    • @blackmamba6938
      @blackmamba6938 Месяц назад

      @@jamesbullo Yeah, it depends where you are, but they already did the math and know exactly where Totality is and how long it will last down to the exact second. With that information, you can take off your glasses and enjoy totality. It's not like it's even that short, it lasts close to 4 minutes when you're in the middle. Wearing glasses in totality doesn't even make sense since those glasses completely block out any light that isn't extremely bright. You'll basically just be looking at black if you don't take them off.

      ISO 12312-2 is an internationally recognized standard for safe eclipse glasses, which you can trust, even if you cannot believe your own government.

    2 full minutes worth of bs to get to one very vague sentence in the last 15 seconds. Simply state that the glasses should certified then show a picture of what should be printed on the glasses. News channels suck

    Use your cell phone's camera to look at the sun; simply have your phone's camera on, and have it pointed at the sun, and have it over your eyes so that the phone itself complete covers your eyes. That way your eyes are safe, it is the phone's camera that is exposed to all of those harmful rays.

    • @digitalwallflower

      @@loris3595 Telescope, absolutely not. Phone camera is no different than looking at a photo of a sun on your monitor. You can't go blind from looking at a picture of a sun on your computer.

      This is what I did in 2017, however I have learnt the same damage that can happen to your eyes can also happen to your camera lenses. If you plan on keeping your phone for long or care about its camera alot then I would recommend getting the solar filter. Easy thing is to source a pair of glasses and use them either on your phone or your eyes. On another note, i have found that local city Reddit threads are great sources to find legit pairs of glasses.
