- Kubota U35 mini excavator dug out 2 massive stumps with a little help from the John Deere 2038r compact tractor.
We finally found a use for this giant stump in this video
• We Finally Found a Use...
One of the stumps was grafted to a massive rock with made removing it more difficult

At Rock Hill Farm and Homes we upload new videos at least 3 times per week, about our 20 Acre hobby farm, our John Deere 2038R compact tractor and other equipment, and the businesses that we run.
These businesses include a manufacturing operation, a Christmas tree farm, real estate investing, a lawn care business, and an online retail store. I demonstrate how I am able to use these ventures to earn a good living without a traditional job.
We have some cool toys and always think outside the box on our little homestead so come along for the ride.
You can expect new videos from us every other day, usually around 8 AM.

Q
You got that stump out! The first thing I do is always work as much of the dirt off the stump roots as possible. Maybe not in your case but sometimes the dirt weighs as much as the stump, either way it will make it easier.
Always awesome to learn from someone with that kind of experience!
Yes sir.
I have him and the machine for a week. Been a lot of fun so far
Nice job. Persistence and patience pays off with those big ones! Interesting deal with that second stump and rock!
Yeah, that was fun. Thanks for watching
I live in Hawaii and I had to dig up a large avocado tree stump but the roots grew into solid rock. A good tip to help get the tree out is to use a sawzall and cut any big roots that the machine can’t break. A root that has a 5” diameter will add about 10,000 lbs of break out force so cutting it makes a big difference when trying to get it loose.
Thanks for sharing
This stump weighs about 5000 pounds. This machine still struggled to pull it out after all the roots were cut and I can’t even pick it up with my skid steer
Digging around the tree before cuttung the tree down allows you to use the trees top weight to up end the tree. You can rock the tree back and forth until it falls down using your digger and then cut the tree up. That method has worked for me while I was clearing the land for the new house.
Joe makes the machine look like a extension of his arm. So nice to watch.
Agreed
Thanks for watching
You think so? I disagree...someone is not getting their rental deposit back...
From one old man to another, all those years as an operator are showing up in his SMOOOOOOOOTH OPERATION! You go old man, rock-on!!!
Yes sir. I’ve had him work on a few jobs and I learn a lot every time
How old are we talking? 😀
The guy in the mini excavator is retired after 40 years running machines.
I don’t know how old he is but he’s been around
Dang....huge rock. 😳 Look forward to seeing your building come together!
Yeah, I think that rock is going to be a souvenir.
At the moment, We’re about halfway through Grading out for the building and we’re in a rain delay
If you have to move these stumps again you may consider cutting some additional wood off of them. That was really interesting how that second tree enveloped the rock.
Happy to see that big smile on your face. Looks and works well. You did well. 😀
Those stumps were huge!! Rocks everywhere!!
Yeah, we’re halfway through the excavation now and almost have the rock layer peeled off
Joe’s experience shows! Great video!
Thanks. We are about halfway through excavating for the building
Really well done. Got the right angles to compliment the narration, or got the narration right after a lot of footage. Whenever the footage made me question what was going on, the narration was right there to explain. Excellent backhoe and camera work.
This was a great video! That big rock could be used many ways, probably could even sell it. Good thing the tractor was around to help with getting the big stump rolled out. Take care!
Quite a while back you sent me a picture of a rock with writing on it. We were thinking about seeing if someone can cut the words rockhill Farm onto this rock
Thanks for watching
I feel like having an experienced operator on the property running that excavator all week I’m gonna learn quite a bit
@@RockhillfarmYT yes that would be a perfect use of the rock!
That was very cool to watch. his expertise was priceless.
Yes sir. Thanks for watching
GOOD JOB! Man the power of the small Kubota is amazing..A larger one would have been better, but the operater's talent made it work..Thanks for the video---well done..
Aside from the advances in computer technology, nothing in my lifetime qualifies for more admiration and respect than. . . HYDRAULICS. Just imagine how fast those Egyptians could have been erecting the Pyramids if they had the use of hydraulic lifters and fluid. Amazing how such a small/medium size machine can do so much heavy work. I want to rent one just to play with it.
💥 Fun time with the mini ex! Good team work! 😁👍
*Keep on tractoring!*
Thanks
That stump was huge, you guys made quick work of it.👍👍
Getting the hang of it
Thanks for watching
Great job on that stump. True knowledge is learned from years on a tool or trade and it pays dividends
Yeah, I’ve got a lot of respect for tradesmen and equipment operators and people who do that kind of work that we need in society
A lot of it looks easy when you watch someone do it and then when I jump on the machine it’s a lot more difficult
AWesome! Thanks guys. Joe is the man! Mind full of gold im sure....
Yeah, he helped me with a few different projects on that excavator. We did a pond expansion and prepped for the new building.
Thanks for watching
Us boyz love our toyz!
Heck yea brother those were some big stumps for sure! That was crazy how the tree grew on the rock! I’ve never seen that before. Keep up the work 👍👍👍
I’m surprised that tree held up to the wind just anchored to that rock
Thanks for watching
That was impressive what he was able to lift and move. Would have been nice to see him get the big rock at the end out and moved. He did some really cool techniques for ideas on what I can do here when we rent our excavator! I might be able to use a mini too. Thanks
Hey ole joe can run that sucker. Not beating anyone up but I have many years of experience myself. He had it whipped before he backfilled behind it. Ramp down underneath and attack that tap root. Pop it out like a tooth. Bit of a small machine for the job, but definitely enough operator to get it done. Awesome video
That stump is definitely larger than what this size machine should be engaging but in the hands of someone that has the experience running equipment they end up getting things done. good job sir.
Gotta love that displacement rock and lift technique. I've done it managing things by hand, never occurred to do it with a machine
Yes sir
great job thanks for the video have fun
Thanks
Rock would make a good address marker
Nice, delicate operation. My dentist could take note.
Rockhill farms living up to its name on that second one!
I ran the minis a bit. Very powerful little piece of equipment.
small mini x with experience can accomplish great feats nice video brother!
Yeah a good machine becomes really productive with an experienced operator
Thanks for watching
Wow! Joe got skills!
Joe did a mighty fine job if you ask me!
Cool video. Expert use of that mini too! Go Orange!!!
It got the job done. I’m amazed at these little mini excavators and what they can do.Thanks for watching
Pure power with the weight to match!
My buddy owns excavator and skid steers, I'll just say that they're not tractors at all. Completely different class of animals!
Great video Brock.
Thanks for sharing. I’m looking at probably ordering a skid steer soon
Great operator skills.
Thanks. The guy I brought in to help has a lot of experience
That was a lot fun I bet.
It sure was
I didn’t think it was coming out at one point
Kako dobar stroj.
With the CUT: “I’m helping” 😂
Well done. Did not think you had a chance but good going. Me, I would have put the building elsewhere. Thanks.
Thanks for watching
You know there's a treasure buried under that big flat rock keep digging
Awesome
It was a fun day
Running mini excavators is a lot of fun. I wish I was there to help run that.
I had a blast the last week with this machine. We put 54 hours on it.
Lol a real operator doesnt let go of the controls
Well, if I ever meet one, I’ll ask him
Lol nice work 8t digger would of been better lol
Brilliant
You can't teach experience!
My stump technique is simple. Break it loose, then tilt it up out of the hole. Then did the hole much deeper. Then simply drop the stump back into the hole, and bury it, Much simpler than trying to burn or deal with a giant stump....
That's perfect too use as a door step
I like to dig around the tree and excavate a ramp in the direction it will fall and than pull from the top with a cable but there are many ways just let leverage and gravity be your friend.
Great video 👍👍👍
Great channel 👍👍👍
👋👋👋👋👋
Thanks
If that is smooth, I must be butter. Stumps are always tricky business with a mini.
These machines are very capable given enough time. I am hoping to get a mini-ex one day. Just incredibly expensive where I am at. Usually a nice small one is going for $75,000+ and a large one is going for $30,000 with same hours and year. Everybody wants one, I guess.
I just got a skid steer. Mini ex is next
Thanks for watching
I just priced a yanmar 35 same size open cab , thumb $55,000 I thought it was a good ,deal Kabota has about the same deal with also very good financing if you skip the angle blade on the front and skip the cab ,put half down you’re good to go ,you can even get the trailer later
At least you have a dad that helps you out....My father wouldnt lift a finger for me. He is full of excuses and if he ever does, than Ill never hear the end of it. lol
Great Video Brock that 1st stump looked like it was bigger than the mini ex.... Lol
We were speculating that it probably weighed more. Definitely bigger by volume
Amazing you managed to get it out. After you broke it loose, I would have just thrown diesel on it and burned it
We built a building right there, and the foundation went where that stump was. That’s why it needed to come all the way out.
I ended up cutting it in half and throwing it in my pond for fish habitat.
Great job..but I cant belive that rental didnt have a thumb on it!!
Back in the wayback they used hand tools and horse teams to remove stumps. When dynamite came on the scene the process of stump removal was accelerated at an explosive rate.
Which is amazing. Thanks for watching
When I was a little fellow my dad took out tree stumps with explosives. It was very exciting with the fuse wire and explosions.
Thanks for sharing
That's a huge stump for a little 8000 pound excavator
Мы тоже купили kubota KX 019-4. Привет друг!
That 1st one was huge and rocks were pretty cool on the 2nd one. Seems like it would have been easier, at least on the 1st one, to dig around it and some of the big roots and then push the whole tree over and then just cut the stump off.
That would have probably would have been the best way to do it.
That was a huge tree and With a rental machine I wanted the tree to be buckled up and out of the way before the machine was delivered
I could have left an even taller stump for leverage though
Brock another great video. Next time name your farm something like Sunflower Hills Farm. They're a lot easier to dig out :)
We have a winner for comment of the day.
I actually did laugh out loud
The digger operator did a good job with the size of excavator he had.
Thanks for watching
thats a badass baby kubota, think you need one for the property....
I think so too. Probably aren’t cheap though
I did order a truck big enough to haul it
@@RockhillfarmYT ask your rental co if they sell them, heard good things from people who bought clean, well maintained equipment from rental companies.
Good idea
That’s is crazy how the stump hug the rock.
Yeah, it was unique digging that one out.
I see you have started posting videos. Good luck in growing your channel.
I am also a manufacturer of mini mini excavators, skid steer loader and lown lawn mowers from China
How long did it take to dig out the first big stump?
I've dug stumps that big and bigger by hand. Takes weeks but it can be done. Anythings possible.
And You gotta be in pretty good shape for that.
This one weighed at least 5000 pounds the way it sits. My skid steer won’t even pick it up
Sure could use a thumb attachment not that it solves all the problems. I rented the largest size made with rubber track just for digging stumps an moving limestone. Nice video.
Yeah, I wanted to get one and forgot to ask for it. Turns out that Rental place doesnt even have one for this size unit
son y'all ain't have enough machine
I have a kubota l4740 tractor with a bh92 backhoe attachment. It is about the same power as a 2.5 almost three ton. I took many stumps like that out. I had to dig a path way and roll it out.
Are the rocks flat enough to build steps or a patio with?
Maybe bring a chain next time
I need more power. Never got it with my 1025r. Would be fun to try.
Yes sir
De la bricole !!
14:32 Is that the missing rock from Stonehenge? Damn. That's a big sucker.
I am trying to get one of these, do you know what are the dimensions? I need to get trough a 6 feet corridor
Great job Mr. Joe!!
He’s pretty good on that thing
Definitely need a thumb, hydraulic or manual.
good thing you had enough Joe. man! keep him. you best feed him so he will come back. lol
Joe's a pro I hope you're paying him good haha
Yeah, I’ve been really impressed With his skills as we actually do the excavating for the building
He told me what he wanted per hour and I told him I was expecting twice that. He doesn’t do it for the money though
Haters gona hate keep on keeping on
Thanks for the encouragement
Why doing it in such a complicated why? The stump is very high, just cut it down to reduce weight. Remove more soil from it. You will see that it will be much easier. This video shows a reason why rental machines are often in bad conditions ;)
Dude looks like a slimmer version of jelly roll
Well I have no idea who that is but thanks for watching
Whyyy does my u35 bog down when i try this.
im looking to buy the exact same size building. Who did you buy yours from?
Did you ever consider buying a mini ex rather than the skid steer since you have a tractor loader already? I'm facing that decision now and am leaning toward mini ex. I am thinking a bigger model though than ur rental here to up the capability though..
Was thinking the same, just hard to justify spending the $75k on something not used daily
Brock great job big stump and big rocks
God Bless All
PaK
Yeah, I couldn’t believe the size that rock
Thanks for watching
💪💪💪💪💪
Thanks
Real man would have just pulled that out by hand...lol
They didn't have one with a thumb?
When they built the pyramids in Egypt they would like to have this equipment in these two operators
Right
There's a much better easier way. I just poured 1/2 teaspoon of stump rot (Potassium Nitrate) and let it sit for 120 years, poof, stump was gone.
First 15 Seconds. Rented Equipment = Aggressive for the next Week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The saying goes, Rent it, drive it, operate it like you stole it.
Did my stint with Cat Rental Store. Saw lots of abused Cats.
Thanks for watching
What size of excavator?
Is there any chance that was not a rock and it was infact a stone??
As in.. an old burial stone? With a body under it , I'll Especially with a tree on top? Perhaps burial spot of a faithful horse?????
Interesting question
I’m doing this in a week or so. Think or he expert tips.
Yeah you going to backfill it and then he's going to just skip it and roll it across the top of the ground and probably flip it like you would flip a log if it's too heavy to pick up
