    Got a cupra R myself just shy of a year ago now and you are 100% spot on with all the mechanical stuff, ive changed or had to have changed everything on that list in my ownership. worrying how easy some of them are overshadowed if not owned by an enthusiast or taken regularly to a specialist who would know what needs replacing and when.

      Yeah, I'd like to hope it'd be a MK2/cupra enthusiasts selling to a future MK2/cupra enthusiasts, so the previous owner would be dying to tell the new owner, how well they've cared for the car and all the work that's been put into it. And ur rite, some areas aren't prioritised if the owners aren't aware of what can go wrong.
      Best of luck with the bolster, and I appreciate the kind words Jordan 😊👍🏻

    These suffer from balance shaft seizing which leads to engine failure, and oil control problems with oil light flashing for no reason. Honestly if you add all the things that could go wrong these engine suck compared to the 1.8t.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  2 года назад

      Very true, something I need to have modified on mine as soon as with a balance shaft delete. Ur right, there is a fair few issues with these engines. Great engines when running well, but a nightmare when not 😬

  • @leeplee6652
    @leeplee6652 Год назад

    Brushed over the scuttle panel leak but that's a major design flaw on these cars. Heater fans will seize due to rust, water ingress, interior will be soaked and go mouldy if left damp wet / carpets condensation.
    Also the wiper arm being held on with a reverse threaded nut (common to snap these off when changing struts or removing the scuttle panel underneath the wiper arms) new wiper motor needs to be coded in or a salvage linkage refitted to old one - learnt this the hard way

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  7 месяцев назад

      That's good to know David, cheers for sharing. I have seen that on other cars and sometimes it's been caused by the doors being opened onto high kerbs or pavements, and the same with the rear edge of the doors catching stone walls or metal gates. As soon as the paint chips off the rust sets to work.
      Thank you for watching and commenting 👍🏻

  • @jariizar

    I have a 2008 Leon 1.9 tdi 105hp, also an issue i noticed, the metal bar right behind the front grill (where the logo is) is getting very rusty, because the metal bar is shaped in a "U" so it picks up all the rainwater that falls there...
    Also these f***ing cars are princesses because of the "dual mass clutch". Overtime it will degrade and make a background noise when the clutch is released. I also noticed that when this happens, if you drive near a dusty/hot/humid place (not sure which because haven't tested it 100%), the gears are reaaallly rough to put in.
    But overall love this car, handles really well in curves at medium/high speed (also depends on the tires ofc), very satisfying turbo whistle while throttling and has a pretty good acceleration. (and yes the car is fully stock)
    P.S: Forgot to mention, a common problem for early mk2 Leon's is that the taillight covers tend to fall off with time.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  11 месяцев назад

      Cheers for you good points 👍🏻 I have seen reports of the lens covers sometimes coming off once the glue loses adhesion, fortunately it's that cold up here in the north, that the glue is never weakened enough by any heat 😅

  • @tomasrazgus7331

    Yeah, my rear doors dont open from outside. But sometimes it works:).
    Another problem is that climate control is heating like on max temperature. Whatever temperature you make, it heats the same. Let's say there is no different between 16 and 26 c - it's still the same.
    Be aware of abs block with number 1k0907379ad because they fail a lot and replacement cost a lot of money (however you can add block with another code which is much cheaper).

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  Год назад

      Cheers for the heads up on the abs blocks, I've actually been seeing them mentioned a lot more recently.
      I'm not too sure what the issue could be with ur climate control, but I imagine it's the control unit itself sending the wrong signal to the system that mixes hot and cold air, or it could be that system that is actually faulty, but I've never seen how that all works.

I've got a 2.0tdi 170pd and almost 500k km on it and the only major problems i've had where the gearbox giving up and a guy crashing into the front of the car and thus me having to get rid of the AC. for the rest it drives wonderfully.

    Wish mine had front parking sensors. I bet dealership would charge a fortune for me to have them fitted. The colour on aftermarket ones wouldn't really blend in. I didn't have parking radar but via vagcom had the feature activated.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  Год назад +1

      Yeah I imagine it would be expensive. An option some do is fit a bumper with standard sensors already attached and wire them in, but I think it involves other things like a clock spring for behind the steering wheel that judges steering angle, and other parking features. Can get quite expensive sadly.

    Brilliant video. My car when driving is not very noise proof, 2011 Leon II (1P, facelift). It sounds like a window is very slightly open, that quiet but sharpish whooshing/outside noise. The question is, when driving yours, it is very quiet inside? What could be my issue?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  Год назад +1

      And cheers or the great feedback 👍🏻 I get loads of raod noise off the low profile tyres sadly (+exhaust note) so it probably covers my other, less noticeable, noises.
      What you describe could be a number of things, most likely the wing mirrors are creating wind turbulence when driving, which is what you're probably hearing. Sound insulation such as dynamat, for the cars interior panels only tends to help insulate from road noise, and sadly not wind noise, so a costly option that won't make it any better I'm afraid.
      Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment cheers 👍🏻

    I am planning to have this car after getting my license, and I’m pretty afraid of hearing these issues when owning this car, so I have a couple of questions
    1: Does PPF help against the little rusts?
    2: Is it rare that the engine issues occur?
    3: is the maintenance expensive?
    4: related to the engine but if you drive it daily will these issues occur as well for the engine?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  Год назад +1

      Hi, all though it sounds scary with the issues, all different cars have their own individual issues, is just the joys of 2nd hand car ownership.
      For your questions
      1. PPF only helps prevent stone chips and scratches, it won't stop rust appearing, as rust will probably originate from behind the panel, outwards to the surface.
      2. Rare if the engine has been serviced regularly and looked after. They are common when engine maintenance has been neglected.
      3. No, parts are reasonably priced, the only expensive bit is the labour charges of your local garage, or if you do it yourself it will be free!
      4. These are built to be driven daily, I drive mine every day, and I've put 95,000 miles on the clock since I bought it. As long as you service them and use quality products, liquids, etc, they can go on forever 👍🏻

      My gauge has been perfect. Try the reset but if that doesn't work you may need a new sender unit that's in the tank. It may be a part of the low pressure fuel pump in the tank also. Sounds like it's maybe sticking once filled up and not following down with the level of the fuel.

    I have Leon 2010 1.9tdi and when it comes to the exterior most of the issues you mention are true, i have normal headlights not xenon and they same the same issues as on yours, but i got lucky on mine because it's rust free everywhere. 12:20 But i have another issue in the interior with the climate control, i don't have the degrees that are between LO and HI especially now in winter i don't have heat until i put it on HI, everything in between is not existing, i had the car checked on diagnostic and they said that the values are not changing much when you turn the knob until you go to HI, they couldn't give me an specific answer on what could be wrong and how to fix, except that they could to remove the whole dash and then to try to find the problem. So if someone has had this issue or knows how to be fixed i would really appreciate your help.

      If ur not already a member, pop them a request. They are very useful.
      Just as of right now, I'm afraid I'm not too sure what the issue could be. My guess would be the control unit itself on the dash isn't giving the car the correct info that u request. Maybe get a second hand one?

      I'm not 100% clued up on the diesel engines, but a good regular service history is key, preferably a list of receipts for parts bought, and watch out for any excessive smoke on start up or while running as this could be worn oil seals or a turbo on its last legs. You will get a bit of dark smoke when booting it, especially if it's been remapped. Hopefully that helps 👍🏻
