This movie somehow depicted my life to a T. I didn't see it til a few years ago but I was immediately taken back. I drove the same type of Volvo back then , I was the ross character except not an addict. I dated the Nikki character and the April character. I knew a real life spider . And thru the girl I met I got next to a mickey Rourke kingpin. I remember long days driving endlessly back and forth , city to city. It's not a good lifestyle but it's a memorable one. The girl I knew who was similar to Nikki in this movie told me about this flick I remember, but I hadn't watched it til recently. She passed away from the lifestyle a few years ago and this whole movie brings so many memories back . Almost too eerie to be true
That Rourke is such a great actor Every part he does is totally convincing. You get the feeling this is exactly how he is in real life. That he brings more life to a character than the character had in the first place. It’s like he possesses a part in a movie - not merely acts it.
One of my favorite movies. Mickey's performance in this movie, is AMAZING. The scene where he talks to "Volvo" about his mother and the bathtub, is heartbreaking. One of those movies that you do not know what to expect, but when you see the cast, you know its going to be good.
@@CoolCityCactus saw it today. Not super strong on plot, but appreciated the lived experience of these drug-addicted characters. Glad I watched. Probably wouldn’t watch again. Just letting you know one person watched.
Yeah this movie is kinda like how the lifestyle is but the events that unfold in this movie are within a few days of each other. Yes shit can happen in a short amount of time but i guess for cinema purposes it's gotta be dramatic. But yeah overall it do be like that sometimes. Ahh the good ol' days 😎💯👍
I've seen some crazy shit going down geared up man, a lot of condensed energy in that short period of time, one's entire life can be uprooted within a matter of days. The movie is accurate to real life, and in fact, crazier shit goes down in reality with ice.
Did the interviewer actually ask Mickey Rourke if he was intimidated by working with kids? She must be too young to know who he is. Mickey took it in stride and there appears to be a mutual respect between Rourke & the director but the question was absurd. I have not seen the movie but I am intrigued. Just watching the clips, my guess is that the film would have produced far less punch without Rourke and old pal Eric Roberts.
Man I see people that are just coming into the dope game and I ask them why tf would they want to subject themselves to this bullshit. It's nowhere near as fun as it used to be and from what I can tell, it'll NEVER be that way ever again. There's absolutely nothing appealing about it. If you weren't with the shit back in the mid-late 90's then sorry for ya! That's whenever doping used to be fun lol. It was a fuckin free-for-all. Everyone around here was cooking dope and the laws weren't really hip to it yet so people didn't really know exactly what they were smelling in their neighborhoods. So dope was literally everywhere. It was great (if you were a doper). There's a line that Brittany Murphy says in this movie ".. stuff just happens and you don't even realize it..life just sorta passes you by." That's a very true statement. I started doing dope back in 1999 and the next thing I knew it was already 2005! That's whenever the laws really came down hard on methamphetamine and made it really difficult to obtain everything we needed to bust off (to cook). But back whenever I first learned how to cook dope... man we used to do 20k-50k pill cooks! We had a guy that owned a store in the hood and he'd order all the pills (Max Brand Pseudo 60's)we needed. We used 55gal drums to do the cooks and used big boat oars to stir it. Then we used the big shop vac filters when we'd powder the oil. Next thing you know you're sitting at the kitchen table staring at 10 Tupperware bowls full of big boulders of dope (you have to let it set and cure after you powder it). Hell I still go to the automotive department in Walmart just to spray the starting fluid in the air so I can smell the ether! Lolol. Damn it man...now those were the good ol days of doping. Iykyk
This movie is a trip. Watched it yesterday. Rourke is a genuine tough guy. Right up there with Tex Cobb.
LOL I currently live in Cobb's hometown
20 yrs. later, that world is real, EVERYONE even the cops are using the stuff.
The work that Mickey did in these small films(and the list of movies is endless) is better that any A list actor whole career
Definitely!
