I mean, I've known a lot of people who went into psychology or social work and in my experience, a VERY high proportion of them have or had serious issues themselves, so it's not unusual

Sometimes people aren’t well suited for it bc they have far too much unresolved trauma they need to work through first. I’ve worked with a number of people who were in need of help themselves. There are many, many great people in social work and Psych. though who do amazing work every day and make a massive difference. It’s a hard field to work in. But rewarding too.
She made a choice and if the allegations are true then she needs to lose her license! She’s a danger and a menace to society! Not only this but she should get prison time if convicted!

I worked in child welfare for 34 years. I personally know of several cases where an adult claimed to be a younger person to gain financial assistance or services, as a youth in care. The cases I know about all came to light in some way. Once the faker was exposed, there were legal consequences and charges of fraud were laid. These cases are quite old so I would think it would be more difficult to pull off in a more digital age like we have now.
That’s the part that really confused me b/c in the 13yrs that I’ve had therapy, my birthdate has always been on my file & when I turned 18, I’d have to show my ID while checking in for the appt 💀💀

Fascinating case. Dr. Bober refers to Munchausen by proxy but there is no proxy (parent or caregiver). Munchausen Syndrome is rare, patients pretend in order to gain sympathy or attention. In my nursing career I saw one Munchausen patient who appeared at a Boston hospital with a cast on her leg with no evidence of fracture. She had a central IV line which she was injecting other body fluids into so she would remain sick and hospitalized. It is a strange condition.
I thought this was an elaborate scam meant to prepare for filing a lawsuit against the school district for over looking or failing to provide a safe environment for a special needs student being bullied. I am a mental health professional and my first thought is that she could have Dependent Personality Disorder and/or possible trauma that she is either trying to process by going back to school or she experiences extreme regression as a defense mechanism. I think it is actually very possible that she had rather "innocent" intentions and that she didn't really have a concept of how this could harm other people (or didn't care), but I don't have all the evidence so these are just theories.

(25 years ago) I’d have these fluid dreams of going back re enrolling every few years or so and “fixing my last year or two of HS” none of it was about dating or relationships related, just literally an academic redo. The last 15 years i’d have follow up dreams but having done it and squaring the fact that i had two different graduation years and having wasted the time doing the redo or being judged for having done it. K sharing aside I have a similar take on this situation like you do.

There is a Law and Order SVU episode that is very similar to this.
Best defense is she had a traumatic experience in high school and by repeating high school she could overcome the pain and mental effects she’s dealt with since.
Give it time and the culture will move to accepting the right of people to identify as the age they choose. She's just ahead of her time.
