James Gunn’s gifts have always been in taking C or D- list characters and making them marketable by making them comedic or the butt of the joke. I see no reason on God’s green earth why anyone is excited for him to be writing and directing THE most popular and admired superhero of all time.
superman is not most popular superheroes he is recognised batman and spiderman all forms of popularity movies comics video games animated series
superman especially in young generation is not really that popular
@@harryrao4296Recognition = popularity. If children in an African village with no tvs don’t know who you are, you are, by definition, LESS popular than a character who is known. Other superheroes like Spiderman and Batman have reached EQUAL popularity, but they are not MORE popular. Notice I wrote “of all time” Superman has been the most popular of ALL Time because he’s been so well known for sooo long. And you’re missing my point: Gunn’s gifts have been exclusively in talking D-list heroes and making them popular by turning them into jokes. No one should be excited by the prospect of Gunn overseeing ANY popular Alist character who is admired. Superman, Batman,Spider-Man: NONE of these characters need to become the butts if Gunn’s sense of humor.
Getting Superman right, is the most important movie of James Gunn’s career.
I may be proven wrong in the future, but for now, I have no faith in James Gunn considering how many lies he has spewed since he announced the new DCU. Let's see how it all turns out.
I believe James Gunn has the potential to do something truly amazing with this DCU. I hope he delivers because it's the last shot they have, and eventually Superman is going public domain anyway.
James Gunn is the Wrong guy for the job, plain and simple. He has no love for the characters, they are just vehicles for his brand of humor.
He’s no love? Wtf are you a fool
I want to see shazam again, but one where he is yhe only one or a show that shows his hectic life as the only shazam
Captain Marvel. He is Captain Marvel not Shazam!
I loved the Snyder films - the "extended" versions that is - that were as Snyder intended - BMvSM extended version for example and ZSJL - both were excellent and the theatrical releases made it clear that part of the reason that his films struggled is reshoots and cuts imposed by the studio. MOS through ZSJL is one long epic story and I know he had plans for two more JL movies. ZSJL while not perfect was fffing epic and awesome! The scenes with Darkseid gave me goosebumps. All that being said I hope James Gunn does Superman well. I personally don't want humor like GOTG or Suicide Squad but perhaps it will have a good blend of serious tones and some humor. I understand those that didn't like the Snyder films. BMsSM was definitely dark (but I loved it), however I don't get how MOS or ZSJL were not "fun" as many say. I found them both fun and was cheering for Superman in MOS and the others in ZSJL. I loved how Snyder handled Flash and Cyborg.
Do we really need more superhero movies?
Maybe movies on original characters. They are unable to work on characters from comic books
Definetely not.
I just want the Batman Beyond movie I could care less for cinematic universes.
Thank you for your service my man 🇺🇸
I'm really hoping the movie doesn't have kryptonite. I would like to see all of these guys trying to fight Superman and have no way of stopping him. Then they discover kryptonite or red sun energy. It would be really good for a Metallo set up!
Peacemaker: Superman, meet my purple cow. I want to give you an EXPERIAN BOOOOST!
Superman: It's about time. Lois maxed out my credit.
Still not sold on his universe his decisions are questionable
Based on?
James Gunn is a comic book fan than Zack Snyder so read more about James gun
his universe might never even happen
@@harryrao4296 it is happening
Heyy what up wes long time viewer of yours, i watch everything you drop!!What are your thoughts on the authority? After reading it a few says ago, i dont look at super teams the same. Its became one of my favorite super teams out there aswell as Midnighter one of my new favorite characters.
Awesome work mate
Not interested in Gunn’s DCEU.
Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
Since he made those pedo tweets and attended pedo themed party's I hate hes guts
No one asked tho
Me neither
It can't be any worse than the Snyderverse!!!
I don't care about shared cinamatic universes anymore, there are better ways to capitalize the DC brand on the big screen.
James Gunn doesn't seem fit for making a Superman movie, but he was born to write and direct a Lobo movie, and Jason Momoa was born to play that lead role, when are we getting that Lobo movie?
We don't need another shared universe, the MCU phenomenon will never repeat.
I would care if we were actually getting a definitive DC cinematic universe, but instead we're just getting Gunn's take. Prioritizing mostly side/support. Not even bothering to take the time and properly laying the foundation.
James Gunn made a great superhero movie. It was back then in 2010 and was exactly what those movies should be. Nothing else because nobody seems to be capable of replicating Richard Donner's miracle.
It wasn't that great imho and this one likely won't be as good as that
@@bigtomboye you're right it was not super great, only very good and entertaining, much more than any superhero movie from the last 15 years
I have more excitement of my next bowel movement than anything Discovery's DC or Disney Marvel's pathetic offerings.
Hmm, actually true 🤔👍
I'm more invested in your next bowl movement than anything from marvel and DC

EXCELLENT WORK. THINKING CRITICAL
I think it would be cool to have lex the man behind the curtain character for at least the first movie. Actually show him throughout the first movie but not necessarily as the known villain. As he's pulling the strings of why the real villain is doing what he is doing.
I don't trust in Gunn new DCEU yet. No while I don't see a truly heroic and aspirational Superman again.
this ne universe is called DCU
Well said ✅️
You all do know that you can see an aspirational Superman in Superman and Lois right? Also you guys have not even see the bloody trailer so it is too soon to judge!

Where are my real Thinking Criticalytes at? Let me get a "Woof! Woof!"
What ever became of Mirage from New Team Titans? I forgot about her but I remembered her come to find out she shares a last name with a Metropolis Marvel named Gangbuster.
Any connection?
Superman will do well. He cares about the characters and Aquaman 2 did 400 mil with no advertising or promotions. Just imagine what superman will do with an advertising budget. Super optimistic.
Bizarro was on Smallville too. Have you watched Smallville, Wes? After season 1, it gets better.
Lol the Superman show with no Superman in costume lame
@@sebastianhoward3304 You get one scene right at the end like the blink of a eye.
Smallville was decent, that's it
@@MS-lk2sk In an age where decent is a needle in the haystack that show would be king today.
@PrivateCitizen84 that's true. I watched Smallville all the way through recently. Early seasons were a monster of the week. Later it branched out, but it's not a show I'm wishing to watch again
I honestly think Gunn is overrated. I think he's going to drop the ball, but we shall see
I‘m still of the position to wait and see what we get here. But I do think James Gunn is missing the point of his new position here, which isn’t doing it all by himself, but gathering a new group of people able to do it. If he wants to do a DCU, he will need to hire other directors and bring in more than just his ideas.
Some say the Christopher Reeves Superman 3 Evil Superman was suppose to be Bizarro Superman
Actually it was in Superman IV that Bizarro was loosely adapted as the first version of Nuclear Man
@@GiovanniAlckmimRusso did not know that thanks for the information
@@sonnywoods6846 you're welcome 😉👍🏼. You can find the deleted scenes here on RUclips. Lex actually did two versions of Nuclear Man, one being a prototype that is a weird guy who ended up disintegrating if I'm not mistaken following his fight with Superman and the other is the Nuclear Man we know
Bizarro? So ONCE AGAIN we basically will have a same vs same superhero movie?
Make no sense on peacemaker because if gunn plan was to reboot dceu into dcu then he shouldn't include everything that he work before in dceu like the suicide squad or peacemaker and star over again from ground up i think jennifer holland his current girlfriend or wife whatever probably threated him with broke up or divorce if he doesn't include her characters from those two project in his new dcu plan
There were stuff in that remained canon when DC rebooted in 1986 and also in 2011. It's not anything new neither a reason to be worried about
Easy, because I only remember Peacemaker
I really hope the DCU will be successful, it’s not like disney that I want to see fail. But I won’t be watching any of the movies, haven’t watched a single bit of western media in 3 years, not going to start now, I’ve far far too much anime to watch.
Am i the only one to like Zack's Superman despite being different from the comics??
Didn't like it, because he ended up being a mass murderer lazering a space ship in half to crash into a city. Plus he genocided his own race when he destroyed that ship. Superman is not his powers he is what he does with his powers.
@@PrivateCitizen84 1: Zack confirmed that Superman will be a good guy again if after Justice League 3 If it wasn't canceled. 2: Of course super man and zod are ganna cause destruction apon the city. They both have abilities that can destroy the human race. 3: In Batman vs Superman Superman literally sacrifice himself for humanity when he fought Doomday. 4: Zack's Superman is him basically trying to find himself and is depressed because of how people view him. And last he didn't seem depressed in The snyder cut for Justice League.
@@Arthurmaan I go by what was shown in the story. MoS was a villain. I do not accept the of course excuse. That was wiful evil to laser the ship over a populated city and genocide his own people into extinction. One good deed does not undo past evils unanswered. Batman temporal visons of an older Flash. Then the scene of an older/joker with an Injustice type Cavil lazering Batman. That was all setting the story up for an Evil Injustice Superman. Older Flash "You were right about him. Lois is the key".
Whatever Zack confirmed was not what he put in story and what he leading all upto. Zack likes to breaks things. He broke the Batman. He broke the Superman and was leading up breaking the Superman more. Which could lead to breaking the Batman again by killing Evil Superman. Both those universe Batman/Superman are murderers.
Snyder Supermna isn't Supermna. Supermna don't murder your enemies, ever. Snyder don't understand that heroes don't kills.
@@EvandroACruz Superman in the Dceu killed Zod to save the family. I'm pretty sure he was trying to be quick. He literally cried when he killed Zod. He killed Doomsday because he's just too strong. Even in the comics he had to kill Doomsday. And for Steppen wolf Wonder Woman killed him.
You was a soldier? Cool!
You were
A soldier you mean
Did you call him Co-President or Cope Resident? Lol
I just hate it when Marvel guys are put in charge of DC. All they wanna do is just turn DC into Marvel and thats why it never works.
And then be mad when it fails.
I was thinking the same, actually.
You got your chocolate in my peanut butter!
I've got to give James much respect. I mean, if you want something done right, do it yourself. I would want to get that first movie out there and do it good, or this is just going to fall right on it's face again. If you love doing your job, knocking out a movie and a show should be no big deal. I know I wouldn't trust it to some hack director. Then you get something like Star Wars 8. DC really can't afford to do any more sorry crap. Gunn is well-known for knocking the ball out of the park. If anyone can do it, he can.
James guns gonna work becuse Hes exacly what WB is looking for
hes old tweets proven hes just the man theres looking for
They might use Bizarro, but they also cast all those ancillary superheroes like Metamorpho and Guy Gardner. I wouldn’t be surprised if they fight Superman in the movie. Kind of a ho hum story in my opinion. Hopefully Gunn will be more creative than I’m giving him credit for.
but the original supes movie had lex as the villain and gene hackman was no threat to superman either!
Enough of Luthor as the main villain already. Brainiac would be a welcome change or why not Mongul?
Most people
Don't know Brainiac or
Mongul
I thought Superman Return was great and is highly underrated. Brandon Routh near perfect embodiment of Christopher Reeve and he should’ve continued to be Superman for the movies
Unless I hear some really great things about it, I doubt I'll even see this movie in the theater. A lot of the casting choices I really hate. Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent was the final straw for me. I mean, c'mon. Anybody who says he is an inspired choice, just never picked up a comic book in his or her life, and frankly whose opinion I just don't value. or can take as a serious one.
Now...if Vince turns out to be either a mind-controlled (Maxwell Lord is in the movie, another casting choice I absolutely hate) or a just snapped Humpty Dumpty, then I'll check it out.
I like Superman Returns
Me too! Except for that weird love child thing
Not that Ive got any faith Gunn will make something DC comic fans worthy, but if he has to micro manage everything than its doomed to fail. Plus why a new universe, just make use the o.g. universe fans actually want. You wonder how many financial ass whoopings they need before the penny drops.
Loved The Suicide Squad, but I'm only looking forward to Joker 2 and The Batman 2
I just don't understand how his Superman is any different from what Snyder did. Based on his casting (gets a Caville lookalike), the picture they dropped looks straight out of Snyderverse. The costume doesn't look good either.
This Superman movie will FLOP HARD!
It's DOA.
Gunn is prioritizing mostly side/support characters instead the most popular ones. He's not even bothering to take the time to properly lay the foundation. Skipping decades of history and iconic stories. Just as we got Snyder's take on the DC universe, we will get Gunn's take. We're never going to actually get a definitive DC cinematic universe because WB can't do it. It's simply not possible.
I really really hope Bizarro Superman is NOT in the movie, I'm so tired of seeing him fighting Superman in everything else. Would love someone else, like a high tech intergang fight or even something completely different like Atomic Skull🤷♀️
After watching the trailer for season 2 of My Adventures with Superman, it seems that Atomic Skull will show up in the series.
Maybe lex become the apex predator version. I saying this because of an old rumor
That recent pick of the Gunn Superman putting his boots on was meh. Didn’t create any real excitement for me. At this point I have no faith in the Gunn DCU.
For people who don’t care about James Gunn and his DCU they sure are caring about it enough to talk trash don’t talk about it or watch it just makes Synderverse fans seem butt hurt
1 - nothing ro worry about. He is involved with Peacemaker, but not that much like in Season 1. It's not the first time he works on two projects at the same time. He was filming Guardians of the Galaxy 3 while finishing the post production for the first season of Peacemaker.
2 - For real, how is it confusing that Peacemaker is set in DCU? We saw this happening tons of times in comic books with reboots happening, but there are some stuff that is still canon. Like Hal Jordan and Barry Allen histories being canon to DC Post Crisis, or everything that happened with Hal in and Bruce prior to New 52 being canon when New 52 started.
3 - there is a rumor actually that Ultraman will be the physical villain that Superman will face, but he won't be a villain from another dimension, but a clone created by Lex instead.
People always say he loves comics and is a huge comic book fan and that’s great for the movies. I disagree. Everything he writes is far different than the comics which in my opinion is not nearly as good as the stories in the comics. He also loves mocking the comic book genre and everything is always a joke. I wouldn’t want to read comics based off his movies/shows.
I have a question do you ever had Nick magazines?
@@DarthDread-oh2ne huh?
Everything he writes is in fact not far different from the comics though. Your issue along with everyone else is that he likes giving obscure characters spotlight vs the characters you want to see. GotG, SS & Peacemaker were pretty accurate to their comic book counterparts he’s in fact been more faithful than any other pisspoor director WB/Disney has been employing not only that but all his projects have either been critically commercially or financially successful, so if you think he doesn’t have what it takes to head DC you’re just a hater.
@@Jbae814 I guess you haven’t read the comics. Peacemaker and suicide squad wasn’t a joke like they were in the comics. Vigilante was a serious character and now he’s a total idiot who does fart and penis jokes all the time. The justice league made one appearance and they were made into a joke. Adam warlock was nothing like he was in the comics, he made Ronan the accuser a total idiot and dumbed down everyone. He changed the origin of Ego and made him Starlords father which didn’t happen in the books. He ruined the high evolutionary and made him way weaker than the comics version. Drax is a total goofball and he was nothing like that in the comics and he completely changed his origin. Who cares if he uses obscure characters if he mocks them and turns them into a joke? He could have used the original guardians of the galaxy and done a great story like the Jim Valentino run. No im not a hater, im just stating facts based off of what Gunn has made, including his non DC/Marvel stuff. It’s simple pattern recognition. Just because other movies have sucked doesn’t make him good.
@@fishin4bass2002 Every comic-book character has slight revisions from their comic counterparts for many reasons. peacemaker and suicide squad were in fact comedic reliefs in the comics. vigilante was niche, ronan in fact was serious in the movies, egos origin change was minor, high evolutionary is so over the top he wouldn’t have translated well in live action same with adam warlock, drax was able to kill thanos which again wouldn’t make sense in live action, and the justice league? when haven’t they been the butt of every joke they get their ass kicked every other sunday. in the videos games, animations comics whatever that’s nothing new.
I hope he does well with Superman - I'm nervous about his choice to bring in The Authority in lieu of the Justice League. Superman is my favorite so of course I hope for the best, but Gunn seems to shine brightest when he takes E-list heroes that people aren't very familiar with and aren't fleshed-out very well and makes them his own. Like Peacemaker, shining example. Funny in Suicide Squad, brilliant first season on Max, and I'm really looking forward to season 2. Peacemaker Tries Hard was one of DC's best titles last year in large part because they riffed off of Gunn's iteration. That sh*t was hilarious and I really looked forward to the next issue each month. Superman's the one I'm nervous about. I hope he nails it out of the park, but... we'll see.
I just can't see this as being good. Peacemaker totally ignored the origin comic book. I think he's going to screw up Superman and Lois in his movie completely. His Suicide sequel was bad. Not horrible bad, but not good either. Harley becomes super competent female DeadPool in the movie and also has the spotlight put on her for no real reason, ignoring all the other characters. The movie wastes Starro and makes him a joke. That third Guardians film was okay but how many "ohhh this character might die" fake outs did the movie need? The fact Gunn won't really promote Reeve's Penguin show shows him to be petty. Thank you Wes.
Honestly, I don't care about Matt Reeves Batman universe. Such a boring and forgettable take on the character. Removing all of the fun. What a waste.
I have A question for anyone; do y’all remember Nick magazines or zoo books ?
Nope. I don't even know what those are.
Those were magazines published by Nickelodeon back in the 90s/early 2000s.
@@DarthDread-oh2ne Oh okay. I probably saw them before but I never collected them. But I was way too old to be reading those books anyway. They were more for children, and mainly teenage girls. By the time those magazines appeared in the 1990s and early 2000s, I was anything from 14 to 28. Lol! No wonder I never bothered with them. That would've just looked weird on my part if I was ever caught reading those, lol! 😅
They tried to bring them back in 2016, but it didn’t work. Why ?Because why bother with these magazines when people have the Internet.
Nothing said or mentioned here makes me think this will be done right. I see another mediocre film coming out with the people involved with project. I would be ok with Lex Luthor in his battle suit going against Superman as that still has never been done before on film. Fuck NO to Bizarro! I see Bizarro I am not going to waste my money going to the theatre to see it. Again wait and see, but I don't care about Peacemaker and nothing here says a winner is coming down the pike. WTF20.
sounds like he is a micromanager that is not good and doesn't work or will not last very long
Will watch the new 2025 "Superman" movie but also being prepared that some connected DCU projects may turn out good/bad and one can always treat every part as a seperate entity.
The most basic problem with James Gunn and Superman is that he admitted to never like or understood the the Man of Steel for his whole life. He is the type of guy to make unusual experiments or making fun of serious main heroes. That's why "The Suicide Squad", etc. projects fit his tastes and style.
Never had faith, in the guy. His last two projects were juvenile, and hard to suffer through. And despite his claims of taking a different approach, with Superman, all of his films are about quirky, irreverent nobodies, joking their way, through a screenplay. And almost none of the announced projects sound good, IF Batman happens, I'll check it out, but starting with Damien is questionable. Unless there's a big time gap, between Superman and Batman. No Wonder Woman, green lighting Creature Commandos, Paradise Lost, keeping pieces of "The" Suicide Squad, a bunch of D List heroes, cast in the inaugural Superman, involving Tom King, in any capacity, the list goes on. I would love a DCU, on screen. Having read comics, for over 3 1/2 decades, I love shared universes. But James Gunn has shown that he has no respect, for the DCU, and everything is a joke. We've gone from Snyder, who favored sad, depressing reinventions, to Reeves and Philips, and their separate, sad takes, on Batman and Joker, to Gunn, who wants to relive GotG, but grabbing lower card heroes, with complete, creative freedom, and childish jokes, as opposed to a respectful take, on these legendary characters, Unlimited, Death of Superman, there are more of the animated specials that get it, Comics from 30 years got it, Levity and all the characters acting like idiots, are two separate things.
Superman flopping would be a double edged sword. I don't want to see James Gunn turn the DCU into an unfunny comedy, but to general audiences, it'll lend credence to the "superhero fatigue" argument, or that DC heroes aren't top tier. I'm not tired of superheroes or universes. I just don't think this guy will do it right.
I Have No Interest in Any James Gunn DC. Not Getting My Money. James Gunn, You Have Failed DC.
I feel if Gunn is gonna be in charge of setting up this new DC universe he should probably be the one to direct the movie that is gonna set it all into motion. Putting it into someone else's hands might be too risky. I trust Gunn. He's never really let me down as a director.
One thing is true: If Superman doesn't work, then that DC universe will also never work.
I have absolutely no confidence in James Gunn, that he understands Superman or understands the DC universe.
The last time WB hired someone they thought qualified in both of those things was Hack--I mean, Zach Snyder.
And none of James Gunn's other projects suggests he's any better.
WB, DC, Hollywood, the Mainstream, they all HATE Superman. Why should we reward them with money so that they can stab Superman and us fans in the back? Again?
If it wasn’t him… then who? Nobody has an answer with that one…
Being left with one bad choice is not a good choice. Not like I care anymore for live action DC. I got into the reading the older comic stories. I don't miss the movies anymore really.
Peacemaker was good as was gotg 3
James Gunn is just as bad as Taika Waititi. His Guardians Of The Galaxy movies are still bad movies despite the fact that they made a lot of money. His Suicide Squad movie sucked. His Peacemaker series sucked. People only like those silly Marvel and DC movies and T.V. series because he made them goofy. That's the same thing that Taika Waititi did when he directed Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love And Thunder.
Those guys are not fans of comics. They are not fans of super-heroes. If they were, they wouldn't disrespect the comic book stories and the characters. They are just doing this because it's popular, and it sells well. It's just another big paycheck for them. So when James Gunn starts making these DC Universe movies with his current version of Superman, the Authority, Lobo, etc., he is just doing it only for a fast and easy buck. Nothing else. So get ready for doofy Superman with low brow toilet humor jokes. That's all that he's good at.
Peacemaker here, Peacemaker there....IMO he is an overrated and overexposed character.
Let's be positive and give the Superman film a chance
Thank you
Absolutely not. I remain NEUTRAL and become interested ONLY if ThinkingCritical, Nerdrotic, and othere are quite excited by it. There is nothing to be "positive" about at this point, and knee-jerk positivity is always ultimately detrimental anyways. My applause and engagement are earned, not automatic. BTW speaking of which in the 70s NO ONE was "positive" about a New Superman Movie until rumored reports of Awesomeness started coming in first
@@bigtomboye you don't have to wait for them cause they are not always right. I mean take Wes for example. He spent a lot of time hyping up Mark Wait when everyone knows he is a terrible person, then acts shocked with Waid's views on the comic industry. Or how he hypes up Mark Millar, and although Mark Millar is a good guy, he is very hit or miss in his work, but Wes put him as a sort of God. Or regarding Ultimate Spider-Man which is the first great Spiderman story we have in years and Wes have been finding reasons to complain about it, but it's only to complain. Same goes for what Gunn is planning to do with Superman. I don't think he is the best yada yada, but he clearly knows and respects the character unlike Snyder
