    I was given a briefing about Japan from a former colleague, Tom Sato who is ‘native’. He told me that one of the reasons the Japanese are so civilised is that only 15% of the country is inhabitable. From him and other sources you quickly realise that the Japanese are ingenuous, hard working and because they value education and progress they have managed to support a disproportionately large population for their land area. They are also pretty conservative in their views and value their heritage. All of this makes Japan a very interesting country, as we are seeing here.

      As recently as a few 100 years ago, the mountainous terrain made many neighboring villages inaccessible to one another. Today the Japanese are extremely good at building bridges and tunnels.

Now this, a mix of my MLC obsession (motorcycles) and the reverie of my boyhood one. Thank you, just glorious!

    What an office indeed, TMF. Wonderful episode. Thanks for sharing not just the glorious early autumn scenery of Shikoku, but also for the snippets of Japanese culture. The hotel etiquette, the kaiseki (traditional Japanese multi-course dinner), the futons that magically appear while you dine, the soothing onsen, and of course, the hand-washing basin on top of the toilet. And yes, Japanese politeness even extends to the road. Watch out for those kei-trucks though. The elderly farmers who potter around in them can pull some surprise moves.
    It's late autumn now so the kōyō (autumn colours) are really intense. I'll be riding the mountain passes tomorrow and making the most of it as many of them close in mid-December for the winter snow season. Looking forward to Episode 3 !

    Just getting better already. That first hotel is exactly how I imagined them to be.For me, this is the ultimate, a visit to Japan has always been my bucket list country to visit. So the next best thing is to see Japan from a motorbike tour. If only I was 36 instead of 63 haha. That road along the gorge looks brilliant.

      Gary, the UB Touring Japan itineraries cater more to 40-70 rather than someone in their 30s who has way more energy than I. I have rest stops every 45-60 minutes. Most days are 9am departure and 4pm arrival with plenty of sightseeing time in between.

    Great video and beautiful views. I think the 2024 Tiger 900 has more HP, different screens on the dash, and I believe that they may have addressed the heat coming off of the rad and onto the rider issue. But don't quote me, just see if Triumph will "lend" you one when they come out.

    Great Job TMF always wanted to go to Japan. I’ve Spent 4 months in China and 4 months in Korea and 10 months in India with work. Japan is on the wife’s list but wasn’t at the top of mine (get tired of crowds) but thinking of dropping the wife in Tokyo and doing something like this, as an early retirement gift. I would never of thought to rent a Motorbike in Japan but watching this has really opened my eyes. I see they have T120’s which is what I think would be a perfect combination as it seems the speeds are somewhat reduced. Which to be honest is perfect for me, I ride the western USA and here in Canada and everywhere is a rush. Nice to just take your time and enjoy the views. Korea is very mountainous too, which surprised me. Thanks for posting the videos, definitely more on my list now. Can you take a moment to mention visas and insurance and such for riding there and medical coverage. One never knows 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  9 месяцев назад +1

      I just got myself an international driving licence and checked my travel insurance covered me for large capacity bikes.....visa wise from the UK it's just a form filling exercise on the aeroplane....

    • @UBTouringJapan
      @UBTouringJapan 9 месяцев назад

      To ride in Japan on a Canadian drivers license that is licensed for motorcycles, all you need is an International Driving Permit issued by the CAA (Canadian Automobile Association), your Canadian drivers license, and your passport. The motorcycles provided by UB Touring Japan include unlimited 3rd party property and 3rd party injury coverage, limited rental motorcycle damage coverage, and up to JPY 5 million personal injury coverage. I recommend you get travel insurance at your departure airport just in case you get ill or your flight gets rerouted or some other unexpected event occurs that impacts your ability to join a booked tour.

    We Dutch are a bit more adjusted on ‘raw’ fish (herring) than most British. I love herring but I prefer smoked or baked/fried fish.
    How can you sit at such a low table. I wouldn’t be able to get up again 😅.
    Love the water saving toilet. We need them here.

    I once grew my own mushrooms on straw. You can buy your own home grown mushroom set here.
