  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The brand new 6.2L V8 in the new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup is the most powerful engine ever crammed into a light duty truck but does that also make it the fastest from 0-60 MPH when towing. There's only one way to find out. Get all three V8 domestic trucks together and hook them up to 5000 pounds and see which one is fastest from 0-60 MPH. Will it be the 2014 Ram 1500 with the HEMI V8 or will it be the Ford F-150 with the 6.2L V8 or will it be the brand new 2014 Chevy Silverado that shares the engine with new new Corvette. In another fin and informative TFLtruck 0-60 MPH video review we find out in this epic V8 Matchup 0-60 MPH towing duel.

      I thought the exact same thing. I did however, stick around to watch the entire thing. I thought he "sealed the biased deal" by giving the Chevy a second chance to beat the Ford. I also noticed that the way he was holding the camera prevented you from seeing the trailer. Did they take a little weight off? Perhaps. I'm actually a Ford guy but I've recently been converted to Dodge. I purchased a Ram 1500 4WD crew with the 5.7 Hemi and I adore it. Something that I've been wondering though is this...With Ford and Chevy now offering larger engines in their pickups, why dosent Ram? You'd think that there would be a huge demend for the 6.4 Hemi in a truck. I'd buy one in a heart beat. Although that new Nissan with the 5.0 V8 Cummins is going to be VERY TEMPTING!!

    • @gabrielsasala1875

      @BigRedPower59 the reason why they don't is because the EPA will slap RAM in the face with a gas guzzler tax and they would sell it as a SRT product. I'm with you man if RAM sold the 1500 with the 6.4L hemi I'd buy that thing in a heartbeat

      ***** I agree 100%
      I mean in the Chevy's first run it lost to the Ford by 0.6 seconds...Over 1/2 a second...In its second run however, it beat the Ford by 0.9 seconds...Almost a full second! Meaning that from its first run to its second run the Chevy dropped 1.5 seconds of time? I call bullshit...1.5 seconds might now sound like much, but just ask anyone who's raced down the 1/4 mile...In a racing situation 1.5 seconds is HUGE.
      That tells me that GM either took some weight off the trailer or did some ''behind the scenes'' tuning on the Silverado before it's second run.
      Either way this who joke of a comparison was sponsored by GM, so of course they are going make sure the GM truck comes out on top.

    Yes, please do it right. This is youtube after all. So easy... All you need is 3 brand new 2014 trucks. Three trailers with identical loads. Several video cameras. A computer that runs Final Cut. You also need to know how to use Final Cut. Plus a youtube channel with tens of thousands of subscribers and of course do it all by yourself...just like Roman did in this video. No photographer, no editor, no help what-so-ever. Oh yes, and Roman had less then an hour to shot the entire video. Go for it!

    • @nathanmcdonald610
      @nathanmcdonald610 8 лет назад +3

      I'm sure he had it floored. The Hemi is under powered compared to either of the 6.2L's from Ford or GM, and on top of having less power/torque the Hemi has 3.55 gearing which is ok for towing, but the 3.92 rear end Dodge offer's would have been better. What's bullshit is that the Ford technically won but it only got one run, The GM got two runs (A second chance to beat the Ford) because GM was sponsoring this event. Would look pretty bad if their own trucks can't even win at the press events.

    • @vulcanman64
      @vulcanman64 8 лет назад +3

      I have the express ram single cab and would smoke the ram used in this vid. He purposely never floored it. Every video this clown is in he always makes the ram look bad. Completely different story in other "real" automotive tests.

    • @nathanmcdonald610
      @nathanmcdonald610 8 лет назад +1

      vulcanman64 I'm sure it was floored. The 5.7L just doesn't make as much power as either of the 6.2L's for starters, and secondly this truck is quad cab with a 3.55 rear end. Your express is likely a single cab with the more aggressive 3.92 rear end. A 3.92 Ram will still lose to a 3.73 Ford 6.2L or Chevy 6.2L though.

This test however was a Chevy sponsored test...so not actually a test but an advertisement ...if your a Chevy guy or gal it will be a great truck , if your a Mopar person buy the Ram....the same with the Ford..just keep buying American trucks in America...regardless of where the plants are located...the Japanese did not start building trucks/cars in America to benefit America...the money winds up as Yen. That particular Ram was at quite the disadvantage. I have that same Ram Express Black Edition Crew Cab 4x4. It has the older 6 speed, not the newer 8 speed, so it is quite a bit slower. It also has only two axle options, 3.21 and 3.55 limited slip, which I have. This accounts for the big difference. Any higher model Ram would have been nearly identical to the others.

    $53,000 for a Ford?...Wow...

    Buy a Ram for $40,000 and if it's not perfect, then put $8,000 worth of upgrades into it and you'll have a better truck that cost less and looks better.

      xblade93x Not many vehicles could hold up to ocean salt water cities driven on a daily bases anyways. Fiat is the worst out of the 3, it's cheap because the engineers design ways to use less and cheaper materials. Dodge transmissions are really delicate to. A friend at work bought a 2013 ram sport brand new an after 65,000km the tranny was not changing gears smoothly as it once did. It was not slipping yet, it was progressing to that stage. Also Fiat is in really bad trouble financially, it will be interesting how they do in the next 10 years. GM and Ford are the Last North American trucks made. Fiat just recalled 1.4 million vehicles because of hacker threats.

    • @xblade93x
      @xblade93x 9 лет назад +1

      +boskey10 Okay, so clearly you have personal issues with Chrysler products. A simple "I don't like Daimler-Chrysler products" would have been sufficient. Perhaps you are not aware that FIAT does not just own Chrysler. FIAT owns Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati to name a few, so financially I don't think they have much to worry about. Also, I didn't say look at a truck on Long Island, the East coast is anywhere from Boston to the very Western-most border of NYS... So, that being said I have never seen a ford older than 10 years without considerable frame rot. GM vehicles have weak motors and cheap parts. For your own knowledge, Ford nor GM are all American made, the Toyota Tundra is more 'Made in the USA' than any of the "American Brands". Regardless of that, Transmission service is required every 30,000 miles for a Dodge Ram, they notoriously have transmission issues, which are made incredibly worse when abusing the truck by towing a 6,000lb trailer up and down hills without the "Tow/Haul" engaged. They also have front suspension issues and succeptable to light body rot on the bed/tailgate, but the motors in these trucks tick on for a very long time. (Not unusual to see one in the 140,000 mile+ range). But at any rate, preference plays a major role in everyone's stance and "brand loyalty", personally I will always hold Dodge to a higher level than GM or Ford, particularly because Dodge styling is astronomically superior, Fords are ugly but work very hard and take a lot of abuse, GMs ride nice but can't work for longer than the first 1,000 miles and normally look like the south end of a northbound pig.

    • @boskey10
      @boskey10 9 лет назад

      xblade93x Yes i'm fully aware of what Fiat owns. An yes they are not doing so well like in the past, that's why there cars are so cheap so they could sell more, besides the exotics. I said Ocean salt water cities that means the Atlantic ocean which is all the states you mention. An i also said made in North America that means Canada, Mexico and USA. Everything doesn't evolve around USA anymore. An all you said, was the styling was superior, which means jack shit when major issues arise. The fact is all brand new trucks are overpriced, regardless of what brand people choose. Buy used don't pay retail. An Gm's last a lot longer then 1000 miles, please that's just you disliking GM.

    This guy is throwing the Ram under the bus... Compare the 5.0 or Ecoboost Ford to the 5.3 Chevy, to the 5.7 HEMI with the similar rear ends!! Chevy commercial here...... I've driven and towed with all three of these trucks over the past few years and the Ram easily is the best towing half ton I've ever driven. If this idiot would compare apples to apples like he said... he wouldn't have used the stripped down Ram express (basically the cheapest Ram you can buy), against a 6.2 Lariat to a 6.2 LTZ. I wonder why RAM scares you all so much that would you purposely use the wrong axle for testing? I'll bet if you had used the proper 3.92 axle the RAM would have won the 0-60 test hands down.

      Old, but I had to respond: They also offer less expensive versions, in case you were wondering. You can buy a new 2014 for about 19-20k if you try. It won't have all the gadgets of the Platinum model they apparently tested, but it will easily work as well as your current truck and get better economy while being more powerful in the process. Or you could opt anywhere between those 2 ends and get a heck of a hauler for about 38k, including 4X4 and supercab if you want it and a TT 3.5L V6, which is as efficient as your current 6, but makes about 3 times the power and torque. Just sayin' ... if you're all upset about it, look up the truck and see what's available before bashing..

    also how are you going to use the 5.7 hemi? they def have a 6.4l which would have been "apples to apples" seeing as how you use the 6.2 from chevy and ford.... would have been way better if you used the 5.0l or ecoboost from ford and the 5.3l from chevy for the 5.7 hemi. that sir would have been "apples to apples"!

    The main problem with the Ram in the gearing in the Transmission, not the lack of power. The 6 speed in that particular ram has a first gear ratio of 3.00 which is ridiculous for low end grunt, the rear gear can only do so much. It would be a much better comparison if you would of had the 8-speed trans in the ram, the first gear in that is 4.71 which is much better for getting out of the hole.

It's simple physics. It's not even in the same class as the Ford and the Chevy. If the Ram won that battle Ford and GM would have some serious problems on their hands.

    I guess TFLT deleted my other comment that I had on here. Either way, Roman keeps responding saying that the Chevys first recorded time was due to tow/haul being engaged. The funny thing about that though, is that after the short and mostly negative introductions, Roman had no issue in the Ram or Ford. The man was on top of his game. He literally managed to drive them both all the way to 60mph (from 0!) with no issues. When he hops in the Chevy, you are in for a treat as he walks you through all the reasons you should want this truck. What it does, how it makes him feel (I mean its the kind of truck your Dad might drive!). Yet unfortunately he forgets to turn off tow/haul mode.
    One thing that should be noted is that tow/haul mode being off frees up about 150whp. If you notice, he has no trouble dropping an entire second an a half off of the 12.72 the truck ran under WOT conditions just a second ago. Roman ensures us that nothing was changed, the same weight, same road no downhills or anything, same trailer, AC is on, he didn't use a programmer on it or anything. The tow/haul mode is just that good, 12.72 to 11:25 at the push of a button. Only the Chevy had the GM engine so only it was re-ran after the Ford recorded the fastest time. He would have shown you the other trucks run again but the camera's memory card ran out of space!
    This is also why he doesn't show the trailer being towed, it would have been boring to see it again, you just saw it. He gives you his word that it is not only identical, but that it is there too. If he had tried to show the trailer, the sheer torque of the tow/haul mode release would have sent the cam flying, endangering lives.
    GM also wanted you guys to know that it wasn't their fault. Though they arranged the shoot and flew him out there, they said it was fine if the Ford won, they are a company that honors the rules, a company that believes in sportsmanship. They also wanted to re-iterate that they would not have had the money to pay him even if he had wanted to be paid, which of course he didn't.
    Keep in mind TFLT viewers, in the future it is possible that only comments deemed beneficial to TFLT will be allowed. Otherwise comments can and will be deleted, this is only in an effort to curb freedom of speech and/or personal accountability.

    bottom line in my opinion..... All three are great trucks. The Dodge (equally my favorite with the Ford) is by far the most improved out of any of them, because it had the most to be improved. The Ford has by far the most heavy duty suspension, chassis, and body of the three. Chevy edges out the three with their powertrain, and has for a while. I won't buy the Chevy just because of the electrical, and body/interior integrity issues. The plastic they use, or the way they construct it, is somehow much cheaper than the Ford. They need to prove they've fixed all that first. Then I'll consider buying it.

    Further proof that this guy has no business testing vehicles. Don't get me wrong, I wanted the Chevy to win..but if you have to go: 'oops, the right one didn't win, lets just give it another chance cuz my driving is ridiculously inconsistent', maybe you should consider that your methods are pretty worthless. I get that the dude doesn't seem to know much of what he's testing but you don't need to be a major car guy to know that the trucks should be compared with an equal number of runs. Personally, if i weren't able to make consistent runs in a vehicle I certainly wouldn't post videos as an authority on them..

      A buddu of mine has a 2012 f-150, just the regular v-6 with ecoboost and the governor kicks in at 80. And still 96 is pretty low

    How disappointing. 1, 0-60 for the Ford, 1, 0-60 for the Ram...the Chevy lost and got another chance because Chevy paid for the trip?? Wow, what kind of BS is that. Dude, you sold out.

    I love chevy and honestly thought the ram would win, but this Silverado made my day!
