Great review of the film! I would definitely say Sympathy for Mister Vengeance stands out from the Vengeance trilogy because it feels less grandiose and dramatic than Lady Vengeance or Oldboy. Still, it is a worthy inclusion in Park Chan-wook's repertoire. My friends and I just did an hour-long discussion of this movie on our channel, which helped me get a better grasp of it.
It’s an incredible movie. I love South Korean movies and this is excellent in every way.
An excellent choice! And a great review. Thank you for watching the movie.
One of the first Korean films I saw was spring, summer, fall, winter, spring, just because I was bored with Hollywood and had recently seen the Japanese horror ju'on. These two films got me hooked on Asian films, then with sympathy for mr vengeance and sympathy for lady vengeance I was landed and gutted. Shortly afterwards I moved to South East Asia where I found a director I really love, namely James Lee, but he's yet to break through to Western audiences. However, you can see several of his films on RUclips, which I highly recommend.

I love Mark Kermode
I thought this was the sleeper that, in retrospect, was the best of the "trilogy."
its got a banging title as well
Mr. Vengeance > Oldboy > Lady Vengeance.
I thought Mr Vengeance was the worst personally. I have Oldboy and Lady Vengeance above it, not that it's a bad film.
Neither of the two even come close to Oldboy
I love this Trilogy but have always struggled with the child murder scenes. Going to have another try this weekend to watch that bit
Yes gruelling and compelling
hey can someone explain why exactly he killed the organ dealers? a lil confused on that
they screwed him over
basically:
- green hair went to get his sister a kidney from organ dealers
- organ dealers asked for his money and kidney in return
- green hair does as he's told but doesn't end up getting a kidney for his sister
everything wouldn't have happened if they hadn't taken his money or just given the kidney for his sis
because they tricked him and as a symbol of "vengeance"
GENREV GAVANI ILAGAN thank you guys fr i was in and out of the film prolly will watch it a couple more times i figured it was cuz they fucked him over with the kidneys but was hoping to make sure thank you
find the eXit • thank you really cleared shit up

I didn't care much for it but I see this movie as Park's practice shot for Oldboy.
“Unofficial” Vengeance Trilogy? Practically everyone refers to the films as the Vengeance Trilogy, and it is literally sold in stores officially as that.
Did you watch the video? Mark Kermode explains it. Park Chan-Wook didn't set out to make a trilogy but because the three films are so thematically similar they are seen as a trilogy.
hardly a review... this barely a blurb
He's like that in near enough every review.
Spoiler much?
I wouldn’t call it satirical, Mark.
Well, it is. There is dark humour in this tragedy. And it’s all about class and social status relations and struggles.
