Man this movie is something else, plus that score!
It's a must watch before watching the remake for me, many thanks BFI.
The new Blu-ray from Synapse Films is a must-own!!
Nice to hear a knowledgeable and appreciative assessment of this classic. A lot of these young RUclips reactors are totally clueless and uncomprehending about it.
I find that those you tubers tend to have no grasp on visual imagery used as a plot/narrative device or understanding what has gone b4....(how can you appreciate the colour in suspiria if you have no reference point to the Technicolor Fox musicals of the 40s or the Eastman Colour of 50s Hammer)
After starting, and abandoning both versions (1977 and 2018) a few years back, I finally watched the original, first thing in the morning, whilst high. What an experience! The lurid lighting! The nostalgic yet menacing score!
In my view not just the greatest horror film I have ever seen it's also the film that not only introduced me to Italian horror cinema but also the films of Dario Argento...and I am still a big fan of both.
Re-watched it today
Blood and black lace on Witchcraft steroids pumped up by a bombastic Goblin soundtrack
The film’s masterfully acted, masterfully written, masterfully directed, culty, frightening & is one of the most iconic horror films made & could be one of 1977’s best films. (97%) (5/5 stars) (positive)
I agree with almost all of it, but one thong : masterfully acted ? those might have been the worst perofrmances i have ever seen on screen.
The 1977 version was simple with amazing visuals, soundtrack and mysterious. The remake was convoluted multilayered with 3 subplot stories mixed into one. With no memorable visuals or soundtrack.
Some of the visual motifs in this film are incredible. And the music....Wow. Script is terrible of course, and the less said about the dubbing the better, but I have rarely seen a movie look so damn good (and scary).
technicolor at its best
Jessica Harper has a bit of a moustache going on. It's more pronounced than Leo DiCaprio's in Titanic.
Nothing gets me more pissed off than people who think the 2018 version is better than the original
Agreed. The 2018 version is virtually a different film. Thematically and every other way. The original was made by a gifted horror auteur, the remake by a transgressive independent. You cannot even compare the new version to the original.People are philistines.
I hated both versions
LeBron Savic congratulations
@@nebojsasavic6262 Then why are you here! 😄😆😅😂
to be fair the remake's climax was brilliant, whereas the climax of the original wasn't very good.
Goblin!
The remade Suspiria is a much better film imho. It’s less ridiculous than the giallo style so it feels scarier and more haunting.
I wanted to like this but hated the acting and the story.
Visually it is quite stunning but to my unrefined eyes: Style over content.
You mean you hate the dubbing. Can’t really judge the acting
I can see why people who work in film would like it. But for most people it's just a bad movie with some good visuals.
