  • Update: Seats do actually adjust more. Lever was hidden under the seat belt buckle. This car surprises me more and more every day!

I had my eyes on the Acty for a while. While it wasn't the mainstream imports like GTRs or Evos, it is unique and practical enough for it to be used daily. The only thing that stopped me from pursuing one is the lack of seatbelt on the back seat.... :(

You can use an aftermarket gps guided speedo, some speedos will plug into the OBD port. I love the van I want to buy one and convert it into a mini camper.

Great review. I'm a finish carpenter and I just bought a 2004 Honda Vamos Hobio van which is based on the Acty. I'm in the process of converting it now to my work van. I really like how unique and different these vans are from what we have available here in North America.

So I'm not crazy (about the fuel thing). My domestic car, the time it takes to go from full to half is much longer than the time it takes to go from half to empty. I've come to distrust my fuel gauge because of this. I've seen the same thing on a totally different brand domestic car. However, I did have an old domestic van that showed the right fuel level.

Shane Mahar if you are getting it in the states the 1994 is the newest you can import. I’d highly recommend the van if you ever have passengers. It can haul a surprisingly large amount, and fits 4 people comfortably. You can also put a roof rack on it to haul way more things than the truck can!

You drove this from Florida to Pittsburgh? I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind. From who did you export this and did it come in good enough condition to trust for that long of a drive? I'm currently waiting on a 1990 Suzuki Every van to be shipped from Japan and am contemplating driving it from the port of Baltimore, which is roughly, a 2 hour highway drive.

    • @pittsburghgooddeeds6153

I used Nippon Imports. And yeah, drove it straight up from Jacksonville to Pittsburgh. It was 13 hours or so, no problems at all. Make sure it's geared right for highway, I have the 5 speed manual and I heard the automatic isn't good for highways.

    • @Cyclerosis

@@pittsburghgooddeeds6153 Thanks for that information. The Every van is also a 5 speed manual with a 660 cc 3 cylinder. I guess I'll go prepared with a 5 gallon can of gas and a couple quarts of oil.

Interesting about the highway performance. Most people you ask are so clueless they just say it can't do highways but I think 99% of them don't have a tach or understand powerband and just shift when it "gets loud" so they think it's about 1/3 as quick/fast as it is. It's still slow, but it's MUCH faster if driven correctly based on some Japanese videos I've seen with people that know what they're doing. It actually seems pretty peppy up to about 45, which can get you enough of a lead to buy some time to creep up the rest of the way to 60-65 mph. The more I research kei cars, the more it seems Japanese makers knew people were going to have to flog them to get power so they built them really stout to handle the constant higher revs. I mean, there are 650-ish cc 3-4 cylinder motorcycles that highway commute daily at 7k+ RPM without issue, so I don't see why it would suddenly be a problem when it's put in a van. I think a lot of youtubers/social media people are buying cheap crap cars with known problems and blowing them up for "look at me" content. Much more exciting to see a blown engine than "boy, this thing just works!".

I've owned a lot of mini trucks by now. Overall, they are totally fine on highways with speed limits up to 65 mph.
All our highways around here are 55-65, I never feel that unsafe. Going on massive interstates where limit is 70 and people go 90, no way.

Came back after 3 months. I want to see a Honda Acty Street loaded with big burly manly men. That would be a sight. Where I live, it seems the big burly manly men feel "uncomfortable" with smaller vehicles as they seem too "girly". Seeing such a sight would be amazing. I still don't have one of these, but plan to get one hopefully within a year. I have a thing for small vehicles. My current daily driver is only a little bigger than a kei car, but designed a lot worse so there is not much usable space. I also have a small pickup truck but even it I think is too big. I want a kei van and eventually a kei truck. Just wish they weren't so pricey to get.
