I recently purchased a 2019 Spacia Gear as a “temporary car” while my century was on its way from Japan to Sydney. Within 2 days, it was obvious we were going to keep both cars. The Spacia is the happiest little car we’ve ever owned. Everyone smiles when it’s around. My family love it. It’s incredibly practical, and fun in silly ways. I used to drive a 911, and this gets 10x more attention and questions that the Porsche. My kid has named it “Bob” and my wife, who gives exactly zero shits about cars, legitimately has grown attached to it. Buy one!
У меня N-Box Slash 4WD и S660. Обе машины собирают на себя огромное внимание) И неизменные улыбки) Отлично управляются. Это самые любимые мои автомобили, даже после больших минивэнов.
I own an N-Box in Sydney; great as a daily driver around the city. There's so much room in these that I ended up importing a bed frame/kit built specifically for the N-Box from Japan and go car camping every month or so. Just a tip that if anyone should import these keis that they should always get the turbo version, the difference between an NA and a turbo variant is literally day and night.
i've driven some underpowered slow 4 cylinder cars/trucks from japan in my time but i gotta say my 2013 nbox custom wagon is faster than those. i live in japan and purchased my nbox with 70,000 km for 6k usd. for them? I see so many nboxes on the japan mainland but here in okinawa they're less common. One thing i notice with kei cars here is that they like to flip over in crashes. we have roads that are paved with coral mixed into the road tar and when it rains it gets quite slppery and i see a lot of accients
I'd love a Kei car for camping. Do you have any advice on what to search for, for a bed frame/kit? (I need to get an idea if it would be practical for that task before I import a car)
@@YoureNowOnTV The frame I got was from MGR Customs in Japan; they make bed kits/frames for quite a few cars (not limited to keis). The good thing is the entire thing can be assembled in 10-15minutes, and requires no drilling or taking apart anything. Its very sturdy and fits perfectly around the interior edges, and comes with padding protection for the foot of the frame so it won't damage the car interior. The only down side is that importing the thing is quite expensive as its bulky and has a bit of weight to it (frame is all metal and boards are thick)
I have a Honda N Box here in Japan ... It's an old car, 2014 and it runs super fine, I also take the highway with it.... Traveled from Kanagawa to Osaka and back, and recently from Kanagawa to Iwate... It did 23km/L 😍 I love my Kei car ❤
I just came back from Japan after a 4 week vacation. The first thing I noticed when I got back here to Tasmania was all the huge cars on our roads. Why? Kei cars nail it ! We need to put pressure on Honda and Suzuki to import these so people can get off the SUV band wagon. SUV's your time is up, Kei cars, welcome to Australia!. I sat in the back of two Kei cars and the experience was awesome. I was smiling so much and laughing that my Japanese friends thought I was loopy. Again, Suzuki and Honda (And Subaru and all the other Kei car manufacutrers) BRING THESE TO AUSTRALIA !!!! PLEASE !!!!
@@sportsonwheelss It's an ecconomic not political issue as far as I understand here in Australia. Car manufacturers only want to sell what the market is buying the most of. Unfortunately they only sell a class of cars so the market has no choice. It's a locked out system unless a manufacturer decides to test the market by importing a different class of car.
interesting, so it is actually street-legal in Australia. Cool been for you guys. Here in the States, they are not street-legal. They are deemed to be unsafe. But if the Kei car is older than 25 yrs old, then it is street-legal. Go figure!!@@YoureNowOnTV
@@sportsonwheelss Because they probably don't perceive our market to be profitable enough to import them. I think the market is ready for a change. Too many people think an SUV is the answer here. We had a delayed introduction to that phenomenon from the USA but it wiped out small car sales in Australia around 10 years ago.
Back in 2017 when I was in Sri Lanka, I had this Suzuki Spacia, and let me tell you, those things were a blast! Super fun, crazy reliable, and the best part - they didn't break the bank to run.
I am Japanese and live in Japan. I would like to introduce some market data in Japan. I imported a Honda Stepwagon into the UK around a year ago and it is absolutely amazing. Compared to the VW equivalent it comes in at around a third of the price. We are not thinking of swapping the smaller car out for a N-Box we love the Stepwagon so much!
My wife is Japanese and she used to have Kei cars back in Japan. To be honest, some Kei cars are actually quite spacious and most of the ones I've been in have been really comfortable for long drives.
@@KrAUSerMike I drive a kei car here in japan, an NBOX, and they do not suck going up mountains, they sure are not going sports cars speeds, but if you know anything about japan you know most mountain roads are really narrow and you can confidently go above the speed limit in any key car... so no they do not suck in the mountains.
I honestly think this is my favorite video from you guys, I love how open minded you guys are, most people tash these things and don't realize how awesome these cars are, am honestly planning on buying one
Been driving an N-box Custom Turbo since it dropped in 2011 and im waiting too take delivery of my 2024 N-box Custom turbo in afew weeks! Its a great little car and its exciting to see someone talking about it in English!
Absolutely hands to my heart. I was just looking at the Spacia in last week. I've just had enough of big cars and wanted something like the Spacia or the N-Box. Thanks mate.
We used to have Kei cars in Australia. They sadly usually got panned by idiot journalists who couldn’t see the practicality and joy in them. They were ridiculously misunderstood. Had a few Mira TRXX builds and absolutely loved them. Some of the best vehicles I’ve ever experienced. Currently, only the Ignis and Jimny are close relatives to fully imported Kei cars here. Both are wider body than the actual Kei versions and have 1.2 and 1.5 NA engines respectively. Kei cars have always been a bit bonkers and I’m all for us fully embracing them! I LOVE your enthusiasm for them.
Those old Mira are difficult to live with especially in manuals. The 3 pedals are too close to each other because foot well space is lacking, making guys with big feet susceptible to pressing 2 pedals at the same time unintentionally.
@@bas4903 mini motorbikes made a comeback and are awesome. But *mostly* got banned from sale here for ABS reasons. Suzuki have done tonnes of Kei cars over here in different classes. But we should be embracing more. Given rising density, people’s needs for cars and fuel costs. But we are very very slow on the uptake.
"Journalists" covering the auto industry, if they work for outlets that rely on auto manufacturer advertising, are compromised. There's more money usually to be made in more expensive models. Banging the drum for vehicles not sold in the market or at the low end of the market doesn't make the automakers all that happy. Even if they sell that kind of vehicle. In the US, many auto "Journalists" don't even own cars. They get loaners from the makers. They will continue to get loaners from the makers as long as they keep the makers happy. Also, toss in model reveals. Many times at nice places with nice accommodations for a few days. With good food.
Just back from touring Japan and saw these little gems running around everywhere. Fantastic and sensible little things. And they look mean in black! Great review.
N-Box has been the most selling car in Japan since its debut in 2011. It is affordable, super practical and cute! I owned a 2nd gen with a turbo charged engine and loved it so much!! I am happy to hear people around the world love them. Last year, Honda and Suzuki released thier 3rd gen N-Box and Spacia. Since spacious Kei-car class is so competitive, they became much more wonderful cars.
I bought a 2019 Spacia hybrid AWD with just under 30,000ks on it a few weeks ago and have done almost 2000kms in it in that time. I'm constantly surprised at just how good it is. It's my daily. It has replaced a large 4 door sedan and a Suzuki Carry van and does as good or better than both. I've taken it from Sydney to Gerringong NSW a couple of times and it went up steep Mount Ousley at the 80kph limit on cruise control without even trying. My only gripes are the cruise control can only be bumped up to 107kph at most which can be fun on the 110kph freeway in the mornings, and it does move around a bit in crosswinds being a tall lightweight box. Other than that it's actually a blast to drive and the power button actually works. I love the way it looks, the way it drives, I just love it! 10/10 would buy again.
How's it go at motorway speeds, Is the engine absolutely buzzing?. Considering one of these but I currently do 2x 80km trips on the motorway per week and if it's terrible at 100km/h that's a deal breaker.
These type of Kei cars are so popular in Japan, they're just everywhere. I think the Honda N-van is the biggest selling model in the country. Great to see them being brought into Australia as grey imports.
Yeah, especially the past few years. Bob J had 2x choices in 175/55 R15: Either Bridgestone or Yokos, both $250 ea. Be careful not to bugger up the handling with 17"ers, - these things are engineered pretty tight. 16s will get the look if the profile is right. Imo! Anyway, go get that dream! Cheers.
Revenge of the super-minis! Dudes will be trading their Raptors and Rams for these soon, yaaay. I think this is one of the best and most uplifting vids you guys have done! Congrats AK and Jim
3.5L of fuel per 100km, jeeez! My 3-door Jimny drinks double that. Extremely tempted to get one of these now, especially after seeing a video where a guy loads a whole-ass motorcycle into his N-VAN.
You could take small vehicles like this, upgrade them with a 1.0L engine and some more sound deadening and they would be usable to like 75% of the drivers in the world. No one really needs a daily driver car that can do over 160 kph to travel from point A to B.
660cc with a turbo and a decent overdrive gear is already good enough imho. This car sits at under 3000rpm at highway speeds, that's plenty good enough. A more aerodynamic kei car would definitely fix the sound issue at highway speed, you don't even need more sound deadening (even if that would be a solution as well).
I actually sort of own that. I have an Opel Agila which is just a Suzuki Wagon R+ that Opel licensed and changed basically just front grill and engine. And that Suzuki Wagon R+ I hear is based on some Kei car. It is a little bit wider and longer and has 1.0 or 1.2l engine. Mine is the 1.2 and it is a tiny rocket that takes all the stresses of narrow roads with incompetent SUV drivers on them or parking in a city and turns it into fun. I can't even cound how many times I had a bigger car behind me slam on the brakes because I comfortably went at speed through a gap they didn't want to risk or how many times several cars in front of me pass up on a possible parking spot as being too tight and I just drive into it nose first. My car is 22 years old and I have no idea what to replace it with when I eventually have to. There are no left-hand-drive Kei cars for us in Europe.
still miss Diahatsu in the uk cannot understand why we do not get these great little Japanese cars in the uk they look so great super informative fun revue thankyou
I owned a Suzuki Stingray back in Sri Lanka with the same drivetrain except for the exterior bits. Got it brand new as a gift from my parents. It had an issue with the belt adjuster, which indeed was a cheap fix too, the replacement of the part fixed it. Other than that pretty reliable, economical and practical in your day to day driving needs.
I'd absolutely buy one, especially if I lived in a bigger city. They have personality and practicality!! At mid 30k though, they are a bit expensive. Perhaps a slightly older model at the 20k price point...
Price variations between models in Keis are mad. I brought out my 2017 Suzuki Alto Turbo RS, 34km, Grade 4.5 for ~$23k, all done, go drive. Look at the insane prices of the Kei Jimny btw! Cheers & happy driving.
The "Kei car" was made to unique standards to be able to navigate Japan's narrow roads and serve as the nation's means of transport. The width, length, and height of the car are all set, and the engine displacement is set at 660cc... and the "tax" is low so that the car can be used as the nation's means of transport. There are family cars, trucks for carrying luggage, and even two-seater convertibles. What if there was a "HONDA S660"? Try taking one for a ride. ...From Japan
I’ve have a 2021 Suzuki Spacia Custom Hybrid for over a year now and absolutely love it, amazing vehicle. It’s true there are so shady companies in the grey market but after a comprehensive search I settled on Iron Chef Imports, they were fantastic. I love my K car 🚗
My wife and I have a 2022 N-Box custom turbo in Sydney and it is hands down the most practical, fun car I've ever owned. EASILY keeps up with freeway traffic due to the torque of the turbo motor and costs $45 a fill with 400KM range. We imported it ourselves with 126KM on the clock for the same (landed and complied )cost of a base model Corolla. It does seem to upset the knuckle dragging bogan tradie demographic though but that's "Straya" for you....
The suzuki is the perfect vehicle for a drummer/ guitar player / film maker living in the hunter valley. I’m a bass player and I have a 2015 jimny and k van fit my double bass and a bass amp in. Suzuki are amazing
My favourite car reviewer reviewing my favourite type of cars……bliss! Love love love this content guys…..soooo very cool and fun. Makes me want to move to Oz. Keep up the excellent, fun, friendly and inclusive car content. 🎉🎉🎉
Seriously, although i probably couldn't buy one (let alone find one), i always lusted over these Kei Cars. Ever since i sat inside a Daihatsu Tanto during a Local Car Show and experienced just how spacious it is and how nice it is to sit into it just lives rent free in my mind. They're practical, economical, and honestly will give you more "street cred" than some pompous SUV wannabes. They have such a unique look and it definitely will turn people's heads
Honda could (and should) do this in the USA. They could throw an N-Box type of body on top of the Honda Fit chassis and engine, kinda like how the Scion xB is just a Toyota Echo underneath. it might be slightly bigger than the real N-Box but it would still scratch that itch for those of us stateside.
Spacia’s interior (& exterior) is inspired by hard case carry-ons. Design theme is “Suitcase that carries both you and your luggage to adventure” which I think is neat
I think this is the most enjoyable video you guys have put out. Just showing how 2 little Kei cars can be so good. And yes I would buy one, but not while I still have my Suzuki Jimny 🙂
I still have no idea why the Japanese manufacturers don't import Kei vehicles into the UK officially. Our cramped congested roads and sky-high insurance costs are basically the ideal market for these cars to eat up the small car segment with their great feature for price ratio and heaps of character, versatility and variety. It's the same story with the big vans. Alphards and Elgrands are really popular here with large families and as private taxis. They're really missing a beat by not just converting the speedo to read in MPH, adding 5-10% to their reasonable prices and then shipping them here and having them in dealerships. Even past that, manufacturers with bases here could just make these cars locally and skip the cost/exchange rate nonsense.
I think around the early kei car develooment the British were fsr ahead the small csr development curve(tho not on the level of italians) and the japanese simply did not see it as that And that some of the early kei cars had some british linings to them esp the morris linr
Probably doesn't meet EU crash protection and warnings tech & would be too costly to add. If they got 0 or 1 star in a Euro NCAP test they wouldn't sell. Crazy as they are just as safe as many other cars, just less mass around you.
We did have several in UK spec Suzuki cappuccino Daihatsu copen in both Kei 660Turbo & known 1300cc they were on sale for 10 years the complete life of the car & the Daihatsu Mira TR-XX in very low numbers. Also the Daihatsu hi-jet which in the rest of Europe was a Piaggio porter.
Having been the proud owner of a Suzuki Alto 1.0 and a Honda Brio 1.2 sedan, i must say they are both FANTASTIC cars. Neither gave me a single day's problems in the 100k odd kms ive driven each. So i know the reliability of each brand. And with the south african fuel price now at ZAR26 per litre, these Kei cars would simply be awesome.
Not in Australia but in the EU. I got a Picanto for city driving. Great car! I am just wondering why we don't have any Euro cars like these, but of course without the limitations for the Kei cars. The only ones I can think of are the Kia Carens, VW Tourans and Seat Alhambra but these are way bigger than the cars in your video.
A few years ago I visited the Suzuki Plaza in Hamamatsu, Japan. They had a Suzuki Spacia as a show model where you could actually sit in and even though I'm 1,9m tall, there was indeed room to spare for both my legs and head. I also really liked those electrically operated passenger sliding doors and the cargo space with the rear seats down was truly impressive. I'm really tempted to import one of those, but since I live in the Netherlands where we drive on the right, preparing it to pass MOT might require some work as the direction of the headlight beam needs to be adjusted.
I need one of these ! I dont understand why theyre not sold in the UK? Our narrow roads, small parking spaces and expensive fuel theyd be ideal. To be honest do we really need more than these ? They do everything you need to and look cool as well.
G'Day Adam, I'd like to personally thank you for this review as it helped me make the leap to buy one beautiful Suzuki Spacia Custom XS. I've only had it a few days but I'm already head over heels for it, the practicality, headspace, versatility and fuel savings are astronomical, Insurance is cheap, Tires are cheap, Brakes are probably cheap (haven't looked into that yet) and the hybrid which I have holds 100 up the hills between central coast and sydney! I appreciate you and what you do!
I've driven several generations of the N Box in Japan. Great little, practical cars. Would need a larger engine I could do country/freeway cruising in Australia. These are engineered to suit regular 40km/h roads and 80km/h highways/freeways in Japan.
I own a 2022 N-box Turbo Custom in Sydney and 110-120K/H speeds on our highways isn't a problem. It wouldn't be my choice of car for country driving but then again, it IS a city car.
With turbo and AWD and huge interior configurations , they are a no brainer . With Mitsubishi ,Nissan ,Suzuki, Honda versions ,innovation is paramount . Owned a Daihatsu Move for years, amazing vehicle, and i also looked into buying a New Tanto in metallic purple . Seriously ,i once bought a new lazyboy in the box, wouldn't fit the Eclipse or my BF Fairlane , but fitted in the Move.
I was comparing these two cars and just bought one--it was nice to hear a breakdown in English. I think it will be just what we need for navigating the narrow streets of Tokyo.
Japanese minicar manufacturers have stated that they will not directly export minicars that meet Japanese standards. The profit per unit is very low, and they would have to make huge investments to meet overseas safety and environmental standards. 37% of cars sold in Japan are minicars.
After seeing a Spacia in person in the city just the other day I think TBTL factor is 9.6. They look like shrunk vans that they look like a toy but looks cool.
I never get sick of seeing them driving around our New Zealand roads; there are so many! Watching them turn corners makes me laugh, yet I know their owners are happy with their spacious box on wheels.
I've been in a Kei car (light vehicle) going on narrow track between rice paddies.. and in the city in Japan. I don't understand why us Aussies love massive SUVs when most people never actually go off-road.
Love the video Adam and team, the biggest seller at the moment is the Nissan Sakura all electric kei car. That is one looker and it has very good range for what it is 150k i think. Cool little cars
I have Mitsubish Outlander PHEV with 2.1ton weight. The Nissan Sakura weight 1.2 ton and both has the same 20kwh battery. Outlander runs only 70km and Sakura more than 150km. I think the Kei EV will be the most popular in Japan, instead of EV with more than 2ton will be exterminated.
I would absolutely buy either one of these. I've had a fascination with Kei cars since I was like 13 years old and read an article about them in Automobile Magazine (or Road and Track, I forget) that featured a photo of a Pajero Mini next to a full-sized Chevy Blazer, making it look laughably tiny. I envy you in Australia for being able to import these pretty much brand new because we have to wait 25 years to legally run one in the US. But that doesn't mean I haven't been perusing local classified ads for a Pajero Mini or Sambar van just for funsies. :) Oh and BTW I absolutely guffawed at Kevin Spacia.
Having seen these in Japan a few years back, sitting in and having a play around them these things really are the most amount of car that 90% of people actually need. It would have massive benefits to society here if more people had these instead, me though just gimme a Honda Beat or S660 and I'll be very happy
If dealers here were importing them and supporting them I would 100% go for it. Otherwise though, eh... I really don't fancy the hassle when something goes wrong.
For years we are being controlled by dealers specifing what cars we can buy and owe. Thanks to the importers who give us a wider choice. Of course there are drawbacks, at least we can try something else in life which we have only one, so take your pick. I bought a toyota alphard 8 years ago and have been using it daily for all purpose WHAT A VAN! I am now targeting this suzuki spacia which in my opinion wins in all areas , cf the small cars choice selling in Australia
I just put down a deposit for a brand new Suzuki Spacia Gear Turbo 4WD hybrid from Go Garage - been following this vehicle since 2020 - perfect for environment and practicality. Compared to the limited car models available in Australia and the frugal options Distributors select so you pay more for added options my decision was a no brainer the features on this vehicle will blow your mind.
We sure do need these kei cars in Australia especially the turbo 660cc model so spacious and the price of Fuel a litre in Melbourne inner city' suburbs lately, id buy the suzuki turbo model would suit my needs around the city and suburbs .
A kei car was my first car after getting my licence. Went overseas and spent a year in Japan on uni work experience, and leased a Daihatsu Mira L200 (with four wheel drive!) for $150 Aussie a month. It was awesome. I can't imagine how much better riding and running the current day kei cars are.
If it wasn’t for US crash protection regulations (which need updating) these, in a LHD variation, would be nearly ideal for most of our city driving needs. Who really NEEDS a huge, 4door pickup truck as a daily driver, anyway?
Wow... I'm blown away. Here in Kuching there is a few already on the road, it very expensive considering the engine capacity and it's size... between 125K to 138K all also from grey import, I'm personally never even test drive any of these not to mention ever sat inside it and check on all the interior. Watching this video and the detail introduction and survey on this car... Again, I'm blown away. The nimble engine capability, the surprisingly spacious interior, the features and etc... no wonder the price is expensive. If I have the money, I would buy both. Why? Coz it's just cute, unique, economical, practical and very low maintenance.... Wow!
Biggest problem with bringing in a JDM Kei: Suzuk & Honda refuse to even import simple parts. 'gfy'. Thus, via Shannons, my "free" windscreen replacement...yeah, nah. But 4 weeks in it got interesting... Literally, an O'Briens guy on holidays in Mumbai is going to a dealership with my VIN to try to find a screen. This is true, happening now & a really weird, unexpected problem. Hope Sai finds a dealer for me...I'm a Kei tragic.
I literally drove this in Japan as a rental for 1 day. It felt luxurious inside and beautifully practical. Honestly I can live with this and would love to own one here. Just not sure about parts support as it's not a common car.
Here in the UK I believe that there are only a couple of dozen Honda N Box cars on the road - The cost of getting a Kei car to England is so prohibitive 😢 £9,000 for a 7 year old model - I would love to own an N box - Great video presentation - thanks for posting 😎
I lived in Japan when the N-Box first launched and I always loved that series of car. The way the engine is installed in a low position to maximize interior space and driving comfort is awesome. These are also very practical family cars with NO piano black crap your kids will get dirty and everything made to be used!
I moved to the Philippines one year ago from Canada. I have a Honda XRM 125 which I love. When I am ready for a 4 wheel vehicle it will be a Kei van, probably a Suzuki as they are the most common/popular here. Perfect for here, small roads, challenges parking and never too fast. So damn cute, I just love them.
Suzuki Hustler owner in Japan. Same engine as the Spacia (also the Caterham uses the same turbo 660cc) it will too comfortably cruise at 140kph, speed limits on highways is somewhere between 80-100kph, the 4wd turbo will do 5l per 100km when driven on the highway and maybe 6 around town. The luxury features are basically Mercedes S-class from the 1980s 90s (?) as this segment is incredibly competitive. Mine has all the toys for it's model year - cruise control, descent control, slippy start, hill hold, 360 camera, ABS, ESC, stop start hybrid, etcetera - just too much to mention - bought with 3km on the tachometer as "used" for about JPY1300000 (AUD 13,500) The only issue you might find is that the gear lever surround can impinge on your knee depending on your shape.
Definitely not a European brand like I was expecting but by the looks of them 2 genuinely entertaining cars that have me well and truly intrigued. The way you described them mate made them sounds like they were the ideal emotional support animals for someone who needs one. Also did you want a bit of time alone with them mate or are you trying to hide the fun your having with them from your other cars Naomi and Winston? Lol 😂 Brilliant video guys as always and as per usual have a good weekend and look forward to next week's videos as per usual 👍.
Adam: 1) when it’s only you in the car it certainly is zippy and fun to drive - but with 4 people it’ll be very slow. 2) some kei cars in Japan are the same under the skin but rebranded with different manufacturers’ logos.
This was a bloody awesome 20 minute video. I smiled along with the presenter! This sort of car is all I ever need. Currently I run a 2011 Ford Fiesta Diesel and we cut 250.000km so far, and I love it. If only Suzuki or Honda would start selling these regularly overseas, I would jump on it in no time. I have been looking at the Suziki Ignis and that is probably what I will go for. It is mainly my doggy mover - got two dog girls - and occasional road trip to see my folks, which is about 650km one way. At 57 years now, the next car will be my last probably. The EU regulators can stick their ridiculously overpriced and over sized E-Cars where the sun never shines. I want a fun and practical little petrol runner - with air con - can’t live without it no more 😂 Thanks for the video. The big grinning your face and the enthusiasm made my day! Greetings from Germany!
So little is known about grey import cars. From what I know some imports are significantly better than what's offered locally over here in Australia. Thank you for such an informative video. I really enjoyed it. I hope you make more videos on these quirky and rare Japanese cars!

i've driven some underpowered slow 4 cylinder cars/trucks from japan in my time but i gotta say my 2013 nbox custom wagon is faster than those. i live in japan and purchased my nbox with 70,000 km for 6k usd.
(I need to get an idea if it would be practical for that task before I import a car)
what is the fuel consumption like?
@@YoureNowOnTV The frame I got was from MGR Customs in Japan; they make bed kits/frames for quite a few cars (not limited to keis). The good thing is the entire thing can be assembled in 10-15minutes, and requires no drilling or taking apart anything. Its very sturdy and fits perfectly around the interior edges, and comes with padding protection for the foot of the frame so it won't damage the car interior. The only down side is that importing the thing is quite expensive as its bulky and has a bit of weight to it (frame is all metal and boards are thick)

PLEASE !!!!
" We need to put pressure on Honda and Suzuki to import these" ????. Maybe try to get your politicians not to block them from importing.
Why then your local dealership not importing them?@@YoureNowOnTV
@@sportsonwheelss Because they probably don't perceive our market to be profitable enough to import them. I think the market is ready for a change. Too many people think an SUV is the answer here. We had a delayed introduction to that phenomenon from the USA but it wiped out small car sales in Australia around 10 years ago.
Back in 2017 when I was in Sri Lanka, I had this Suzuki Spacia, and let me tell you, those things were a blast! Super fun, crazy reliable, and the best part - they didn't break the bank to run.

I would like to introduce some market data in Japan.
I think that if you have an importer who is willing to supply parts in your home country of Australia, maintaining these cars will not be difficult for you.

I imported a Honda Stepwagon into the UK around a year ago and it is absolutely amazing. Compared to the VW equivalent it comes in at around a third of the price. We are not thinking of swapping the smaller car out for a N-Box we love the Stepwagon so much!
I'd go for the Estima Hybrid, mainly cos of the ULEZ area, but more popular, see loads of them around compared to the Stepwagon.
My wife is Japanese and she used to have Kei cars back in Japan.
To be honest, some Kei cars are actually quite spacious and most of the ones I've been in have been really comfortable for long drives.
It's amazing how these Japanese cars are so well suited for the country, they especially have some really tiny garages!

Yes! I remember them. Mini vans can't remember the brand but they used to be popular. Along with mini motorbikes
@@Citsym8 It sits at or below 3000rpm at 100kph

3.5L of fuel per 100km, jeeez! My 3-door Jimny drinks double that. Extremely tempted to get one of these now, especially after seeing a video where a guy loads a whole-ass motorcycle into his N-VAN.
You could take small vehicles like this, upgrade them with a 1.0L engine and some more sound deadening and they would be usable to like 75% of the drivers in the world. No one really needs a daily driver car that can do over 160 kph to travel from point A to B.
1000ccクラスをお求めならSUZUKI:SOLIO1200cc、HONDA:FREED1500ccがあります。

I owned a Suzuki Stingray back in Sri Lanka with the same drivetrain except for the exterior bits. Got it brand new as a gift from my parents.
@@UncleJoeLITE damn thats expensive, they technically sell kei cars in india for like 5 grand
Try taking one for a ride.

what RPM and noise levels are you getting at highway speeds?
My wife and I have a 2022 N-Box custom turbo in Sydney and it is hands down the most practical, fun car I've ever owned. EASILY keeps up with freeway traffic due to the torque of the turbo motor and costs $45 a fill with 400KM range. We imported it ourselves with 126KM on the clock for the same (landed and complied )cost of a base model Corolla. It does seem to upset the knuckle dragging bogan tradie demographic though but that's "Straya" for you....

I think around the early kei car develooment the British were fsr ahead the small csr development curve(tho not on the level of italians) and the japanese simply did not see it as that
And that some of the early kei cars had some british linings to them esp the morris linr
Probably doesn't meet EU crash protection and warnings tech & would be too costly to add. If they got 0 or 1 star in a Euro NCAP test they wouldn't sell. Crazy as they are just as safe as many other cars, just less mass around you.
@@louierenault7344 Economy would play a factor in that decision in the UK, the other main brands wouldn't be happy to lose sales to the little cars.

We did get the Suzuki cappuccino Daihatsu Copen and another Daihatsu from Brand new..Theirs quite a few garages in the UK selling kei cars .
G'Day Adam, I'd like to personally thank you for this review as it helped me make the leap to buy one beautiful Suzuki Spacia Custom XS.

Oh and BTW I absolutely guffawed at Kevin Spacia.
Having seen these in Japan a few years back, sitting in and having a play around them these things really are the most amount of car that 90% of people actually need.
These cars would handle 99.99% of my motoring needs.Just fabulous. Will start looking for one.
Honestly, these kinds of cars suit OZ quite well, tight corners and parking in Syd and Melb, daily life, camping activities
Yep I would. Probably the Honda but they're both awesome.
Japan has the best cars and people in the world.
Mine has all the toys for it's model year - cruise control, descent control, slippy start, hill hold, 360 camera, ABS, ESC, stop start hybrid, etcetera - just too much to mention - bought with 3km on the tachometer as "used" for about JPY1300000 (AUD 13,500)
The only issue you might find is that the gear lever surround can impinge on your knee depending on your shape.
Lol 😂
Brilliant video guys as always and as per usual have a good weekend and look forward to next week's videos as per usual 👍.
What make you expect to be european brand???
@@KimoKimochii thought it might of been as had seen one reviewed for a couple of weeks.
Adam: 1) when it’s only you in the car it certainly is zippy and fun to drive - but with 4 people it’ll be very slow. 2) some kei cars in Japan are the same under the skin but rebranded with different manufacturers’ logos.
Drove one of this when I was in hokkaido. It's really fun to drive a comfortable. Until there's cross wind
I want a fun and practical little petrol runner - with air con - can’t live without it no more 😂
Thanks for the video. The big grinning your face and the enthusiasm made my day!
Greetings from Germany!
Cheers for watching!
So little is known about grey import cars. From what I know some imports are significantly better than what's offered locally over here in Australia. Thank you for such an informative video. I really enjoyed it. I hope you make more videos on these quirky and rare Japanese cars!
