    i saw him playing in Bournemouth and for a warm up the wicket keeper threw a glove on the ground , on or about a length , and the bowlers were aiming at it, Mr Marshall was the only one who hit it , 3 times in a row , i have seen a lot of bowling but that one , too this day , impressed me the most
    He was such a nice guy as well , such a great loss to the world and not just the cricketing world

    As a bunch of kids during the late 80s and early 90s in England, during those days in our 'summer', everyone who bowled in our group of children tried to copy his action and bowl like Marshall. So rhythmical, fast and aggressive. He was the king and still is.

    I saw him bowling against pakistan in a test match in 1990 in karachi. I loved the way he sprinted to deliver the ball. He was extremely quick. In that match Salim Malik hit him for 2 consecutive boundaries , marshal really rocketed him with extremely quick bowling after getting hit , finally he got Malik caught in the slip. A revenge full bowler , so competitive.

  • @markh9749
    @markh9749 Год назад +2

    Malcolm Marshall could swing and cut the ball at pace and he had a great cricket brain. He always bowled as the conditions required and with a great understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the batsman he was bowling to. His bouncer was skiddy and, as he bowled with a fast arm and plenty of variation in using the width of the crease, very hard to pick, play or duck. He is certainly one of the greatest I saw bowl at county and test level in England. Only Richard Hadlee of his near contemporaries ranks higher in my estimation.

    • @tangibleemotions7
      @tangibleemotions7  Год назад

      Insightful comment!
      However, I disagree with the the final point; Marshall had to share the oppositions' wickets with world class bowlers such as Garner, Holding, Roberts and eventually Walsh and yet Marshall's career stats compare with the greatest bowlers the game has witnessed. Conversely, Hadlee was the only bowler of merit in the NZ team during his playing days so his stats are somewhat skewed. Not that this lessens Hadlee's achievements in any way; his career stats bear testimony to his incredible talent and compare favourably to all of the great fast bowlers of the game..

    • @markh9749
      @markh9749 Год назад +1

      @@tangibleemotions7 You make some good points, I think. I agree there was no respite for batsman when Marshall was one of that great 80's WIndies quartet and that he had to compete with them for his wickets. But Hadlee, who received much less support from the other members of the NZ bowling attack, had to earn his wickets on his own. They created no pressure on which he could capitalise and batsmen knew that they could afford to try and wait out a Hadlee spell and cash in on the other bowling.
      Ultimately, we are talking about two of the game's greats and i agree comparisons are invidious. I saw both Hadlee and Marshall bowl in person many times. They were great, thinking, bowlers. There was always something about to happen. You didn't want to miss a ball bowled by them. Great competitors both!

    If Malcolm Marshall isn't in your All-Time XI in the history of cricket, I question your knowledge of the game. In my opinion, the greatest fast bowler ever, and if you were choosing 4 bowlers for any all time XI, he would be my first choice.
    Add Michael Holding, Wasim Akram and Shane Warne and I think it would be hard to argue that bowling attack wouldn't take wickets anywhere, at any time, on any pitch.

    • @colingeddes2172

    • @MrDarkweaver
      @MrDarkweaver 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@colingeddes2172 Fair, personally I think Holding was better on flat wickets because of his pure pace than Lillee was, although I'm not suggesting Lillee wasn't quick.
      But Michael Holding is one of, if not the fastest bowlers ever, and could take wickets through sheer pace rather than movement.
