I once saw Macca bowl a short ball against Gloucestershire, the batsman offered no shot, just took evasive action, got hit on the glove and it went for 6 over the wicket keeper's head. In his prime he was THAT quick. Add in the ability to move the ball both ways through the air and off the pitch, superb control, great stamina and brilliant tactical nous and you have probably the greatest fast bowler ever to have played the game.
Malcolm was the best I ever saw ( I saw him a lot at Hampshire ) and a lovely chap too. In my post war all time XI he is the first quick bowler on the list
Absolutely agree. The man was almost unplayable with a massive arsenal of bowling weaponry & the highest bowling I.Q. I ever had the pleasure of witnessing
I was (un)lucky enough to play against him when he played Sydney grade cricket in the early 90's. Off 6 steps, swung it both ways with lethal pace. A true genius
I remember when he bowled England out with a broken arm. Others will be able to direct you to the relevant clips. He took wickets everywhere and on all surfaces. A genius.
A toss between McGrath vs sir hadlee for 2nd position but Marshall easily be a greatest and number one bowler of all time...by the way I am big fan of wasim...wasim is most complete bowler of all time..
Second greatest after marshall is a toss up between Ambrose(third lowest avg after marshall and garner with more than 200 wickets), Lillee and Wasim. Ambrose is probably the greatest match winner of any of the great pacers that have crossed the stage. Lillee is the father of the modern day fast bowler. And nobidy did with a ball what Waz hasdone
Allan Donald is also not one to keep out of the equation. His avg is also extremely low(22 or sumthin) and few bowlers have been as relentless. In 1998, i saw Brian lara put some truly fearful beatings on him. The type of beating that would have sent a lesser player whimpering back to the covers,. 6 boundaries in two overs including s six. In 68 after less than balls, donald produces a literally unplayable bouncer that Lara can only put his glove on to fend off and is caught in the slips. That was how relentless he was
i watched him a few times, from side on, and he was very quick, but what lifted him above others was that he could move the ball through the air, off the seam, and still at full steam. he's my personal favourite and wasim a close second. marshall was also quite a handy tailender, knew which end of the bat to hold, his averages are not that far behind wasim who i always considered almost an allrounder.
For me , Malcolm Marshall will remain the greatest bowler i ever saw in my life . He was accurate , swung the ball both ways and had one of the sharpest bouncers . A bouncer that broke Gatting’s nose , fractured Vengraskar’s hand and took the bat out of Sunny Gavaskar’s hand i still remember a test where Pakistan went to lunch against the west indies 160 odd for 6 . For some reason Richie Richardson had not used Marshall from the start of play Well Marshall was given the ball after lunch . His spell 4-0-24-4 . Windies won the game 30 mins after lunch
Garner do loves to hurt u...Smashed Greg Chappell nearly 5 times in one spell on dogy MCG surfaces in 1980. Meanest was Andy Roberts and Macolm Marshall who hurt most batters i saw along with Dennis Lillee..Collin Croft mean and brilliant bowler too but cut short due to apartheid..If not for Croft departure from memories Marshall would have been even delayed considering Clive always prefer fearsome foursome. Sylvester Clarke was mean too and was sharp in 140-145 range
@@kunalsingh3121 i don't think because he bowled short deliveries, that means he enjoyed hitting people. A bouncer is a wicket taking delivery. Sure it employs some measure of intimidation, but it is a wicket taking delivery.
@@juanestadian8471 Well at end of the day no one enjoying hitting someone in head especially when protective gears weren't around & on relatively quick surfaces. But whatever Garner was brutual too but low on pace compared to Andy Roberts, Dennis Lillee, Malcolm Marshall, Collin Croft, Michael Holding, Jeff Thomson, Garth Le Roux etc..
@@kunalsingh3121 well if you have fast bowlers, it is inevitable that a batsman would get hit. Imran knocked out Jimmy Aramath cold, Waz did something similar to Lance Cairns. Bumrah gave Darren Bravo a concussion.
@@juanestadian8471 Jimmy was Mic Foley version of a cricketer who just use to get hit multiple times apart from Imran's blow he was smashed by Andy Roberts in face and was busted wide open, Malcolm Marshall hit e'm in 1983 series in Caribien where he scored 600+ runs against that quatret..Got hit on Jaw by Thommo too at WACA, Perth then scored a ton too...although Aussie attack was depleted...,,Also Lene Pascoe nearly killed Sandeep Patil too in Sydney.. Bumran not so much but Cummins of all current bowlers hit more people but he is 5-7 clicks slower than Roberts, Lillee, Marshall etc.... I first heard of him in kallicharans team- baby of the team 1979. Then in 80s he established The Marshal law 😮00. He would b a rattlesnake in a dead pitch. He terrorized the top batsman & would howl gleefully 😮.
Malcolm Marshall is the # 1, cause he could also bowl at his best on dead pitches, where the bowlers would not benefit from the pitch, but Marshall would make it happen, that was his beauty, and could swing the bowl both ways
If you watch Fire in Babylon, the way which West Indies were intimidated by the Australian tour of 1975/76 losing 5 matches to 1, you can see how West Indies fast bowlers were conditioned to be ruthless killers. Also England captain Tony Grieg’s comment how he wanted to make the West Indies grovel in 1976, galvanised them to give the opening batsman Brian Close so many body bruises.
Greatest fast bowlers of all time. #1. Wasim Akram #2. Malcolm Marshall #3. Richard Hadlee #4. Imran Khan #5. Curtly Ambrose #6. Glenn Mcgrath #7. Michael Holding #8. Waqar Younis #9. All time? Where's Fred Spofforth? Syd Barnes? Learie Constantine? Harold Larwood? Ray Lindwall? Fred Trueman? Wes Hall? Dennis Lillee? When you say "all time", you mean in your own memory! Try examining the record books, and you'll find no one gets close to Syd Barnes.
Shoaib,Kapil,Imran,Steyn? In the all time best list. Even Shaun Pollock, seriously? As much as I love Shoaib,I would rather have Lee there. Much more dependable and better records. Imran,Headly, Kapil as all rounders? Yes! Anyway it's your list. Mine is like...McGrath(three WCs and always gets the best batsman) Akram (most skilled) Marshal, Truman,Walsh,Donald, Ambrose, Lillie.....if spinners counted, I put Warne on top and Jim Laker in between Ambrose and Lillie....
Spofforth's average of 18.41 is great and Barnes 17/159 in a match and 16.43 avg is amazing but the pitches were pretty atrocious at that time and uncovered so you can't really compare what they did with the highly manicured pitches of the last few decades. Put any good bowler on an uncovered pitch and they could probably do some amazing things. It's a shame these guys only played about 20 tests each. If Warne had played 25 tests would he be a legend remembered forever? Bradman only played 70 innings, most players now are playing hundreds of matches. That list is skewed to modern players but would the older players have stood up to the modern conditions?

One of the most fearsome quickies of all time and is widely considered among the best ever graced the game. Always feel so sad for his untimely death.
The 3 greatest players of all time ...Sir Don Bradman.. Sir Garfield Sobers and the great Malcolm Marshall
Bradman, Sobers & Warne! but I love Marshall.... he was incredible.
Marshall is legendary
Absolute fear instilled by Malcolm Marshall over the batsmen
Great performance , RIP to M.M.🙏
Donald is the best South African bowler of all time, he was more lethal than Steyn for sure!
There was no money, no glamour, no media frenzy just shimmering passion and unbound love for the game . Malcolm Marshall the greatest, take a bow !
