    Beautiful views of Wittenham Clumps there, and well done on looking so unfazed by that very cold night! I should visit Wittenham Clumps at some point, it looks like a great location. I used to live not far from there (well, near Reading), but I wasn't very adventurous back in those days and it seems like I missed out on a lot of great spots in the area!

      Thank you. Camped there a few times. Some great views from there. Also not so far from a good part of the Ridgeway national trail along one the best bits of the Grims ditch network. If going by trains there two stations in the area :)

    I bought one of those Jack Wolfskins Gossamer tents after watching your wet Cumbrian Way adventure. I reckon they can handle anything the weather throws at them.

      Good to hear mate. This tent has been in some serious weather and saved the day. Good value strong tent. Thanks for letting me know. All best Richard

    Nice setup, in the winter I also use my bivy inside the tent mainly to stop any freezing condensation on sleeping bag. Best part of winter camping gor me is lack of other people, much more peaceful.

      Thanks mate. I still find my bag get damp with the bivvi over it but not much a problem for a one nighter. For sure it was very peaceful but to my suprise there was alot dog walkers in the morning. All best mate. Richard

    Stay warm out there! I'm looking forward to an overnighter outdoors as well. I just bought a 0°C rated sleeping bag and I'm getting a bit worried it might not be warm enough haha! Luckily it stays about 2°C here at night, not quite the freezing temps you're having there.

      It should be fine most the time if your camping in England we mostly get mild wet winters due to wind coming from the west and south most the time. The north wind often does not last long enough for a very cold winter :) I would however make sure you get good thermals and maybe take a hot water bottle just incase. :)

      Hope so but Seems to have gone here now in South east of England. We need East and North winds for good amount time to have a good amount of snow sadly we mostly West and south winds with mild winters. All best Richard

    Enjoyed that Rich. I was out skipping it the other night in minus 9 with a frozen beard. Ha ha! Yeah, that's cold mate - a decent camp though. I wonder what Neolithic people did to keep warm. Loads of animal skin probably. Well, take care out there. Mark

      Thanks Mark. Makes me wonder how people did live all that time ago. I wonder if you have really progressed or we just do things in a diffrent way now. Hope your doing well. All best Richard

    Stunning conditions, great light. I always wondered how warm the Gossamer is with the mesh inner. I couldn't camp in the cold weather sadly, but I did get out for a few snowy hikes.

    • @4seasonbackpacking
      @4seasonbackpacking  Год назад +2

      I think it holds the heat well even with the mesh not bad atall. I can i was very worm but i did have two good roll mats and a good winter sleeping bag. I used it in the snow in the mountains in lake district as well. Hope we get some more good snow conditions i really love to get upto the lakes for winter snow this Year. All best mate.

    Thermal top and bottoms. Fleece top. Down jacket. Gore Tex rain jack if needed and bottoms. 4 season hiking boots and winter socks. Two rollmats. Bivi bag over a down sleeping bag with silk liner. Hand body and foot warmers also if colder than -10c I take a hot water bottle with this setup to remain comfortable. Tent is is a 3 season tent a very strong 3 season tent fine for winters in southern England most the time.

    Hi Richard do you wear clothing and down jacket in your bag in them temps or strip down thx?

    • @4seasonbackpacking
      @4seasonbackpacking  Год назад +2

      Hi Mick. I only wear a good pair of winter thermals in the sleeping bag. My sleeping bag in a Rab asscent 900 which is good for Garingorms in winter so -9c i remained warm even with out a hot water bottle, I did also have a OEX bush pro bivvi over the sleeping bag and a silk liner in it. I used two rollmats. The down jacket i used as a cusion but if it got even colder than -9c i could used that as well for back up. All best Richard
