  • The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has announced it's 2024 class of inductees. In this video I give my opinion on who they chose as well as what seems like a clear change of direction post Jann Wenner.

    Hi Alan - Foreigner - great band, I have a lot of theirs. Dave Matthews - NO. I just dont get them at all, I've listened to them but they dont do diddly squat for me !! For me Frampton, Ozzy, Foreigner well worth their nominations also MC5 & John Mayall. Again a lot of the great English bands dont get much of a look in. Cya Doug PS You mentioned Grand Funk - just loud noise for me. Never understood why they were popular, they just didnt do a thing for me. Why would they when I had Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath to listen too lolol.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  3 месяца назад

      Thanks as always Doug. This year is "interesting" in that they are putting in some real "rock". Frampton, Ozzy, Foreigner, Dave Matthews. And although I'm not a huge fan (I do have almost every Foreigner album) of many, it's nice to see some Rock being inducted, though I stick with my #1 missing - Jethro Tull who I think are head and shoulders above all these, including Frampton, who as you can see I absolutely love and stood by since 1976. I use Grand Funk alot as an example. I really like Grand Funk and have all their albums. But kind of like Frampton (though not as good), in that they have few "Great" albums, they have a massive catalog with tons of great, dare I say, classic songs. They were as you said very noisy in the beginning but I actually prefer the later day, more commercial, Funk which is much more tuneful. We're An American Band, Bad Time, their more commercial stuff, which "original" Funk fans don't like as much, I actually love. But I use them as an example of how the RRHOF puts in bands, with one really good album and a handful of really good songs but neglect these artists with huge discographies with tons of classic songs, but spread out over decades - like Frampton, and Grand Funk would also apply there. The MC5, and I know you really like them, for me apply to the other category. Thanks as always.

    I’m always happy when ANY rock acts get into the HOF anymore. As much as I agree with the rap and R and B not belonging in there, it’s basically a moot point now with so many going in anymore. The big question at this point is why even have a vote anymore? They obviously just put in whoever they want now as an award.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  3 месяца назад +1

      This years interesting as they did put in some rock - Frampton, Foreigner, Ozzy, Dave Matthews. And Dave Matthews won the fan vote. That's why I started the video that it's an interesting induction this year. Are they trying to make previous amends, yet still "expand the horizon" at the same time. Personally I give up. But fun to talk about it.

    Did I hear you correctly, Alan? Are half of this year’s eight RRHOF “performer” inductees actually rock ‘n’ rollers? That, in itself, is news. Solid arguments can be made for the induction of Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, Foreigner (thanks to producer/musician/DJ Mark Ronson’s tireless lobbying on behalf of his stepdad, Mick Jones) and Ozzy Osbourne (Sharon saved his life and then made sure his career continued to rise). I like plenty of songs by all these performers, three of whom have been hugely popular, as you said. The other, Peter Frampton, has had his share of fame and is a pretty well-respected guitarist, as you know. Still, only one argument could have swayed me to vote for the four of them. That line of reasoning is the old standby: Based on everyone else who’s already been inducted… To me, that standby also applies to Cher. (A cultural icon is not synonymous with a great singer/performer, IMHO.) Without Cher’s fabulous costumes and cool background settings, she’s just a mediocre singer of catchy pop singles, IMHO, again. (She’s really going to have to backpedal now, after having said on TV that she wouldn’t be in the hall of fame if she was given a million dollars.) The other three “performer” inductees tick off the RRHOF’s diversity boxes:
    Mary J. Blige (This year’s Soul/Hip-Hop inclusion), Kool & The Gang (The 2024 nod to R&B, Soul and Funk) and A Tribe Called Quest. (This year’s salute to Hip-Hop). In addition to your honest, humorous, insightful and concise yet thorough coverage of the “performer” category, I enjoyed your comments about the inductees in the other categories. If only the RRHOF would follow your excellent suggestion to change its name to the Popular Music Hall of Fame, then I could think of it as being less of a joke.

    • @TheAlanRosenbergShow
      @TheAlanRosenbergShow  3 месяца назад +1

      Always love and appreciate your comments and expertise. We will see how Cher handles this. Dolly Parton if memory serves initially refused, then backpedaled and at her advancing age released her first "rock" record... Laughable. Thanks God Mick Jagger had the courage to turn her down. What a joke. But adds on to the running joke, as you said, of the RRHOF anyway. If you ever want to see a low point, I know you're a big Allman Brothers fan, check out some video of when Gregg Allman and Cher hooked up for Allman and Woman and some videos they did.

    • @ronalaurence3075
      @ronalaurence3075 3 месяца назад

      As a very big fan of The Allman Brothers Band who always found Gregg Allman to be one of the sexiest men in rock, I blocked out the whole Allman and Woman thing. I chalked it up to Cher’s femme fatale power. To this day, I don’t think I could handle hearing or seeing videos of Gregg’s music collaborations with Cher.

    I personally don't care who gets in or doesn't get to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame anymore. The Hall has lost it's way many years ago. Sorry you feel that way. But I have no bias against black artists. Hell black artists are largely responsible for creating rock n roll and I have tons of black artists in my music collection. I don’t think Mary J Blige, Kool and the gang, and a tribe called quest deserve to be in the rock n roll hall of fame. And it’s not because they’re black. I’m a fan of Lenny Kravitz and I like him but I don’t think he’s good enough for what I see as the rock hall of fame. And it’s not because he’s black. I don’t actually think any of the current inductors are really hall worthy including the white ones and I’m a big fan of some of them.
