This is the first part of a very long video I recorded. The first section covers the absolute basics and a lot of you may already know these techniques. Check out 201 for more "advanced" tips. This video is meant to supplement my other tutorials, in which I'm not able to go into as much detail as I like. I hope this helps!

Hello Kayley. I just want to tell you eventhough this is an old video it really is a life changer. I managed to pull all of these tips off even with cheap drugstore bobby pins! :)
Thank you so much for putting so much love and effort in your videos.
You're a lovely person
This is the BEST bobby pinning tutorial I've ever come across. I can finally go crazy on all the up-do's :D
I love how you provide the skip tags so we're not just wasting time waiting for topics that we want to see. Thank you!!:)
i luv you, ur the only hair guru on youtube tht did a tutorial on bobby pins in depth, thank you so much it helped alot.
Both of your bobby pinning videos are amazing- they helped me out so much. I did my own hair for prom using your Hunger Games premiere updo tutorial and I hairsprayed my bobby pins and crisscrossed them just like you said and my hair not only lasted through all of the dancing at prom but also the whole next day after prom!! My hair turned out amazing and everyone loved it, so thank you so so much for all your hair tutorials!! You are so great and definitely my favorite RUclips hair guru!! :)
"That way, inside of here, they're going to meet up and be buddies!" hahaha loved that part
you both have the most beautiful natural hair I've ever seen and I love the tips of course
Such a good vid! I'm watching all these tutorials that just say 'pin it back' but this' the first time I heard all these dry shampoo and cross crossing tips and tricks, thanks heaps!
A friend gave me a few of those bobby pins years back and Ive been trying to find them ever since!!! Im so excited!!!
This is great!! I love it! I am totally clueless when it comes to hair and you seem like a pro at everything so I just watch most of your tutorials not even knowing where to start! That and I have really thick curly hair so that's another dilemma. Also I like that you talk about the quality of different ones you can buy here or there. Thanks again, this is great.
Thank you so much for making this. I have really thick, long, fine hair and it eats up my bobby pins so quickly. I'm currently in a bobby pin crisis and this helped a lot.
Just bc I’m curious and think I’m ignorant and would like to un-ignorant myself…. May I respectfully ask what it means to have fine, thick hair? Or just fine hair. My pea brain thought it was one or the other, so now I’m questioning what “fine” hair means 🥲
i love how anna is sitting awkardly throughout the video and nodding every once in a while.
No one has ever made a video about this; thank you! It has helped a lot :)
thanks for making this, by far the best bobby pin video I've seen, can't wait for 201 :)
Thanks for the helpful tips!!! Can you also post a tutorial of how you did your hair, it looks really nice!!! I recently stumbled on your channel a couple of months ago, and I love all your hair tutorials, I've had soo much fun trying them out, and thats because I was always a person that never knew how to do my hair other than straight down.... Thanks again!!
My hair is thick, straight, and fine.. this video made me so happy because I felt like I was going to go insane at the next failed updo!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are a lifesaver! Now I can actually DO your tutorials!
OMG! I was looking for your channel because I came upon you a few months ago! I found you again! :] SO EXCITED! I LOVE YOUR HAIR TUTORIALS :] You're beautiful and awesome!
This is awesome!!!! I already do updos but this is gonna make me do better ones! Thanks do much for this. You explained it very well and were thorough. Love your videos!
You posted this at the exact time I needed it!! Thank you!!
Thanks so much for uploading this!
Thank you for this! Have such a hard time with Bobby pins. I'm definitely going to try some of these tricks!
Hi and thank you so much for this really helpful video!! I have straight, hip-long hair and was never able to Bobby Pin it in a way that it really felt secure. I blamed on the length and weight of my hair and simply avoided any hair-do's that actually needed Bobby-Pinning. Seeing your video now I went and tried out the spraying of the pins and then the criss crossing, and it really works! And if my straight, silky and looong hair can be pinned into place, than everything else can too! :) Thanks!
this helped sooo much! Thankyou! I have always had a hard time with pinning buns. Cant wait to try!
I swear I totally don't do my hair until you put up a video!! Haha they're always crazy awesome!!
This really helped a lot! And on another note, your sister is GORGEOUS!
This is great. Your really good at explaining everything! Thank you :)
Your sister makes such a funny face whenever you mention teasing hair!
you are amazing at explaining!!! Very clear!!! Are you a teacher or instructor?
Thank you Kaley, so helpful. Love your tutorials, cant wait for you next one..Maria..xx
Great video...I would have never thought I would need to watch this kind, but I really am so glad I did! I always thought I just had hair that was too thick and that's why my pins would fall out...now I see it was because I didn't know to always crisscross them! Thanks again for the helpful tips! :)
I love the braid hiding the criss cross !
You replied! I feel special! :) maybe you can do some vids with your other sister, if she stills has short hair, some up-dos with short hair will be very helpful! Thank you!
Some people might have stupid comments to make about bobby pinning but I am 32 and never really knew how to properly bobby pin. I appreciate this video!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for doing this =) I feel like my hair might stay up now.
YAY! I'm so glad you're doing this. I needed this tutorial!
This is awesome! I dare say that I'm already quite good at braiding/doing my hair etc. but this was really useful :) Thanks a lot!

Thank you! My hair either spits the pins out or eats them! The lovely Cousin It effect. Haha!
that dry shampoo on bobby pin trick is AMMAZINGG!! I have super thick hair and bobby pins never seem to stay but if i spray dry shampoo on them they stay soo well :D
Hello! How did you do the bun in this video? It's gorgeous (:. I couldn't find any tutorial on it in your videos. Could you do a tutorial on it? Thank you!
you two are stunning-and you both have beautiful hair!
this video is perfect btw as I always have trouble w/bobby pins-I have thick silky hair and bobby pins don't like me..
EXCELLENT vid!!!!! Thank you so, so much for this very useful and through vid - I absolutely loved it :)
This was sooo helpful, thank you!
Actually bobby pins are supposed to be used with the wavy part at the root and the straight part on top because the waves will hold the bottom hair while the straight part will push the hair ontop and in the grooves.
+Rachels Trend Talk Wrong. Notice how the professional ones are actually curved slightly so that the non-wavy side matches the curvature of the scalp? And hot the end of the wavy side sticks up so that if you put it wavy side down it would push away from your scalp? Seriously, ask ANY professional stylist. Wavy side up is how they go. Don't believe every thing you see on Pinterest.
Sarara R Relax, girl! It's just a bobby pin! The wavy side down method actually works for alot of people (there is something called the frictional force). Is this really something to debate about?!
Rachels Trend Talk .
I'm with Rachel on this. The weird thing is Kaley did a video a year ago and specifically said wavy side down. Yet, in this video, she's doing a lot of examples with the wavy side up?!!
A bobby pins video...that's new! Great video :)
you both look so much alike while not even look totally the same! so cute :)
I wish you could do my hair everyday. I have absolutely zero patience when it comes to doing updos and I just wish I could do everything you do!
You just changed my life
this was such a great basic video but extremely helpful
Very helpful! Are you a professional hairstylist?
Hairspray is literally just glue in spray form :) we use it in Art a lot too. When you sketch, sometimes the pencil will smudge, so we spray hairspray onto it!
Girls, your hairs are sooooo amazing! How do you care about them?? I'm kind of jealous!! Do you have a video about it??
Awesome Duo! Thanks so much!
:Give it a lil buddy to hold it up" sooo cute :)
you're sisters hair looks so pretty! what kind of shampoo/conditioner does she use?
just what i needed!you're great as always!=)
what tips do you recommend like this for really layered hair? My hair is layered but really thick as well. Thank you!
Hi Kaley, just wondering if you've tried the new Spin Pins from Goody and if so what do you think about them?
Can you please make a tutorial of that bun you made? It's gorgeous!
love it! such a basic step but its the reason my hair gets loose and messy all the time! I suck at bobby pinning hairs. but not anymore.haha thanks :)
Just herd kaylee say my name a bunch of times... best day ever.
If you have light hair, you can use baking soda or baby powder. If your hair is darker, you can use bronzer. I read somewhere that some people use cocoa powder, but that can get really messy, so I'd stick with the bronzer.
Really helpful. Just need to practice now!!
After watching this video I bought the Mariana's bobby pins; for those of you that don't think that they could be different, they are! Compared to Goody's or other drug store brands, the Marianas made out of a heavier, thicker metal which means that they keep their shape and don't deform as easily, and when you cross them there's more substance to keep them together. Also, The "eye" of the bobby pin is larger than Goody's, so they can hold more hair. These are definitely a must for thick hair.
Do you have or can you do a video on teasing? I really like volume but I cant tease and im kind of looking for a hair teasing I can do for a everyday look :) Thanks
loved this! thanks ladies!!
