Some people refuse to watch this fight because they want to believe Mayweather has been 'running' his whole career. Looks like he's in the pocket, trading blows and fighting like a young gun with nothing to lose... I guess when you're almost 40 and fighting world champions, you gotta be a little more defensive. I love how kids these days expect a 40 year old to come in brawling. Mayweather already proved himself, now he's collecting mega-checks while giving champions boxing lessons for 12 rounds. Whose fault is it that no one can crack the code?
Two Twenty Two What are the chances Floyd continues to fight after his contract is up? I hope he knows when to quit cuz he will tarnish his legacy if he gets greedy and doesn't gracefully bow out
Latino America I would quit now and pay off the rest of my contract with Showtime. There's no one left to fight. His last fight was Jordan hitting the final shot against the Bulls (albeit not even close in excitement level). His legacy is perfection at the moment, no matter what any fan has to say about it. 48-0, beat everybody in 5 weight classes and never got knocked down once, and only got hurt 2 or 3 times only to come back and dominate.
Nah..Augustus was show-boating from early on, & Floyd retaliated by going into the pocket & letting fly, but he was never in trouble. Augustus couldn't hurt a fly so Floyd could afford to trade with him.
man like mb how boxing didn’t promote him and essentially did the opposite is beyond me. Tell me this wouldn’t get non boxing fans to watch this man fight
If Emmanuel burton had any kind of a management team or if he had taken anything seriously, he would have been one of the greats. I read that guy would take fights on two days notice.
Yeah bro. The lad was a straight up legend of boxing. Fought so many great fighters of his era, and his level of technical skill is just incredible..(!!)...( Just check out his highlights reel on RUclips, for instance..!!) With a more calculated approach, and if life had gone differently for the lad, he would have been one of the most renowned boxers ever. Floyd Mayweather himself stated that Emanuel was the toughest opponent of his entire career. He got robbed, severely, of a number of decisions in bouts that were turning points in his career too. Max Respect, and RIP, Emanuel Burton Augustus, "The Drunken Master". One of the most brilliant exponents of the sweet science to have ever been robbed of the opportunities and the fame that he so rightfully should have been given, and so truly earnt along the way. Check out his other fights, and especially his highlight reel... Incredible!!...He was called "The Drunken Master" due to the way he would dance and flow and sway with such incredible skill around the combinations of some of the best boxers of his era, and counter punch like the old Chinese Kung Fu masters. ( Evidence of it can be seen at points in this bout, too; even against Floyd, he could fight like that..!!) An absolute boxing legend, to be sure. His bout with "Irish" Mickey Ward was an edge-of-the-seat, closely contested, and truly epic fight to see, too. Truly, an absolute legend of the sweet science, to be sure.
@@tonyiacomi4822 its the typical I can't refute your point so ill just say "he is more rich than you" " he is more famous than you" "he can beat your ass"
emanuel's not a hard hitting brawler but he has the talent and experience to act like one if that's what the fight calls for. he never scouted his opponents before fights, sometimes never even looked at them until the bell rang (head down during instructions and facing the corner as the fight is about to start). it's half the reason he has slow starts, because he feels out his opponent in the first couple of rounds. a lot of people here are saying "damn look at mayweather in this fight, he's fighting like he should always fight!". no, emanuel's making him fight this way, and it's how mayweather doesnt want to fight. this is one of the few occasions where floyd couldn't control his opponent. that's why he says it's one of his toughest fights despite the result never being in trouble. i just wish the production wasnt completely biased so emanuel got some recognition for the effort he put in. especially when you see guys like victor ortiz get the massive payday and then mentally quit the fight in the 4th round
I think floyd say this was one his toughest fights for mutiple reasons like you said he couldn't control the fight, no matter what he hit Emmanuel with he just smiled and kept coming, Plus floyd took alot shots he was bleeding and did hurt his hands trying to knock Emmanuel out.
@@Laola97 how do you see it pretty equal? Emmanuel never could do a beautiful combination like all those that Floyd Jr. Did on him! If you watch it again try to watch out for all the fast punches that Floyd throws that you can barely notice you gotta rewind to watch them. #Sounequal
Emmanuel's circle doesn't know the difference of boxing and fighting. In the gym they're just tooting they're own horn in there. Just listen to the corner and hear what they got to say. Unlike Floyd's corner.
It does not matter which one you think is the best or the worst. Did you see the way Augustus smiled after each round? He was having fun. Did you see the way Augustus and Mayweather hugged eachother, patted backs and shook hands? That's good sportsmanship. Floyd has gone on record to say that Emanuel was the toughest fighter he's ever thrown down with. And his ability to show heart by not giving up has earned Mayweather's respect. That should say more than enough
This Emmanuel was something else, I've seen him get hit by large flurries by floyd and he will actually TAKE HIS HANDS DOWN, WALK FORWARD AND SMILE WHILE RETURNING CLEAN SHOTS. Thats really spectacular to me the mindset the guy had
Burton is not a boxer, not a fighter too. But he is a warrior!!! Look at the way he fight, This is only one in the world! This fight is the best for me Respect both of them
What do you mean not a boxer or fighter? What determines that he would or wouldn’t be those things, I’ve always gotten confused with the terms boxer vs fighter when it comes to sweet science 🧪
He not a boxer he’s a fighter you can’t be a boxer without being a fighter or else he would’ve been done just different circumstances but two great men
The only thing about this fight that I didn't like was the announcers! They made it sound like a Mayweather sponsored commercial announcement.......... listening to them talk you would not even know who was fighting! ...... The thing that made the fight one sided looking was hand speed. (if he were just a bit slower he may have lost SOME OF THE ROUNDS.) ..... Way to go Emanuel you stood up well against a younger faster puncher.
Floyd emphatically states today that Emanuel Augustus Burton was the most difficult opponent of his career, and calls his skillset absolutely incredible The highlight reel of Augustus "The Drunken Master" Burton would utterly astound many Boxing fans out there.
Floyd also said "he's unbelievable." And "A legendary champion." That's quite the compliment coming from one of the most undisputedly impressive boxers of all time.
19:06 probably the scariest shit Floyd ever seen... after Floyd combos the hell out of him Emanual says “get off of me” smiles and clearly wants to go to war 👑
Anyone who has done competitive boxing would know how hard it is to keep that fast of a pace and throw so many punches per round while your opponent is putting constant pressure on you. It’s these fights that make you appreciate Floyd and seeing the tough fights that brought him to stardom
Bro. I spared 1 3 min round with this dude at the 24 hour fitness. I was wiped out. Granted it was after a 2 hour work out. But still. It’s hard as hell
@shiryet I mean he did say all out in 1 round. You didn't say you can do 13 minute round. He asked u for that and u mentioned 12 rounds. A 13 minute round is constant pace for four times as long as each round shown here. No water, no breaks, always boxing always moving. Can you do a 13 minute all out pace round?
@@D1ego313 somehow they always move their head or your punches feel like a pillow hit them, I believe these "nightmares" are meant to prepare us for the worst
Not just tough, also exceptionally evasive. His head movement is absolutely insane, and his unpredictability is second to none. Wish he had more power.
@@Aodhan_Raith I think you're just underrating Floyd's chin. 20 of Burton's 38 career wins were by KO. Burton had several stoppages in a row a few fights before this one.
I believe Floyd when he testifies this as his hardest fight ever. Usually Floyd outclasses most boxer's with a defensive style so statistically dominant, he wins almost effortlessly. In this fight, he chooses to dominate offensively but Burton refuses to go down. Don't forgot you're just a spectator, we all are. In that ring Floyd is receiving more hits than he possibly ever has and keeps returning even more. The exhaustion, work, and stress he must feel on his body/cardio at this point of his career must've been something else! Great fight.
@Theon Greyjoy Floyd can't take too many punches, even from a light tactical hitter like Augustus. Wearing himself down on the offensive, Augustus wasn't only getting hits in, he was getting them in right as Floyd thought he could feel comfortable, which hurts fighting spirit regardless of the person.
According to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father, Emanuel Augustus Burton is one of his toughest opponents ever. Burton had an underappreciated career because his "drunken master" boxing style rubbed judges/officials the wrong way resulting in unfair scorecards. This fight is a great example of Roger vs Floyd Sr. training style. Floyd Sr. reinserted himself saying defensive fighters are healthier and have longer careers, and he has proven himself correct while defying fans' preference for slugfests/bloodlust.
Burton gets ultimate respect... In that second round he kept coming and stood in the pocket withstanding some shit. Floyd showing GOAT status early back then.
@@technocumbia1827 Unfortunately I think he would still be robbed even then. And if you look closely, that isn't showboating, he's using his dance moves for elaborate counter punch attacks. There's a whole video on RUclips that breaks down Augustus' style, and how he operated.
I LOVE Emanuel Burton, but unfortunately he lacked power. Not his fault, it's something you're either born with or not. But he was fearless and full of heart.
Aaron Cacho power is something your born with. strength is something u can develop. thats the difference between power punchers that can ko at anytime and heavy handed punchers that use strength to wear the other man down.
nayem ali No its not. When its comes to PUNCHING POWER, you either have it or you don't. Every boxer knows this. Its been this way forever. You can work out and get muscles and more strength, but punchers are born punchers.
Exactly. Emanuel marched to no one else's tune. I really believe this fight was a joke to Emanuel. I truly believe he could've won this fight if allowed to finish. Floyd was relieved when this fight was called.
whoever said that mayweather was not exciting is a fool, the problem with a lot of the boxing fans they don't know the art of boxing. there casual fans who watch hoping for a knock-out, many have never boxed and hardly any have ever been in the ring. for me Floyd is what boxing is about, the art of hitting your opponent and not being hit back
I can understand your point of view, but look at someone like Mike Tyson who knows boxing and prefers watching aggresive and sensational fighters. You are right though, the less the person knows about boxing the less they can appreciate someone like Mayweather, Rigondeaux, Lara, Vasquez, etc...In the end, you can't fault people for wanting to see more action out of these guys. Its the Gladiator effect, where moe violence is more entertainment is more popularity and love. I personally can enjoy both types of fights.
i understand people don't like mayweathers style that a personal choice. what i cant understand is why people watch him knowing he`s not going to change, spend there own money making him richer then moan when he doesn't fight the way they want him too. then you have people that say he`s not a great boxer? hes a five division world champion one of only four boxer to do that, plus hes held 9 world titles, had 22 title fights and beat 17 world champions. usual fights them after big wins so my guess is maidana is next
2011e92M3 Another fucking whiny bitch. Let people watch the damn fucking video and stop bitching already. Nobody wants to read you fucking nonsense. Stop spamming threads with stupidity.
Emmanuel brought the best out of mayweather. It's the best I've seen mayweather fight, Burton forced it! Burton easily a great talent, wish I saw more of him. Best mayweather fight I've ever seen, and it's because of Burton and the shift he put in. They both boxing legends to me!
You can see Floyd’s raw talent. Such speed and great foot work with excellent head movement. He was destined for greatness. Had such a rough childhood too he is a warriors.
I wish I could have been around Mr. Mayweather not only a great fighter but grew into a very wish business man without bootlicking call me for your dirty work Mr. Mayweather loyal to the death
True but greatness is in the the words of Mike Tyson is not just 50 career fight well 49 if we’re honest but as mike said go and fight 150 fights course someone who wins 75 could be classed better. Why has it took all his carrer just 50 fight these fighters need to fight more
It's easy to forget that early in his career that Mayweather would brawl with his opponents if he had to. As his career went on he learned exceptional defense. If he hit like Julian Jackson that never would have happened. He had no choice but to fight a different way, he kept breaking his hands.
That’s why he’s not the perfect fighter. If he had Mayorga hands, he’d be perfect. Kinda like the importance of Michael Jordan’s hands vs Kobe and everyone else
@@johnny6610 There are no perfect fighters. Ali is widely considered as the greatest, yet he had serious trouble against a couple of boxers that George Foreman absolutely obliterated. Of course Foreman isn’t perfect either.
The commentary for this fight is one of the most bias I have ever heard. Right at the 17:33 mark, it starts getting really bad. They're trying to say that Burton isn't taking advantage of Floyd going straight backward, meanwhile, Augustus catches up and starts hitting Floyd right while the commentator says that and takes advantage pretty damn well there with a few combinations, "But Mayweather's so quick, Burton can't catch up with him" - says the commentator. The whole round they completely avoid acknowledging anything that Augustus did, which was nearly as much as Floyd, in terms of damage. How is that even possible? I can't believe how corrupt boxing becomes when it surrounds pretty boys and fame basket cases. I can't even appreciate Floyd's skill anymore because so many people are utterly blind surrounding him. He's great, but damn this shit is hard to watch with all the bull shit surrounding his hype. It's like all they can say is "FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR, MY GOD, WHAT A CHAMPION, OH MY GOD," when he hits back with a single right hand after eating twenty. This sort of nonsense isn't nearly as evident in other sports, why are we so regressed? Ffs
My favorite part is when the announcer freaks out saying Burtons hands are at his sides letting mayweather tee off on him! Meanwhile EA slips every punch
Mt thoughs exactly. That is why I lowered the volume and just watched the fight. Much better that way, without the poison in the ears. XD That was a great fight! Mayweather playing defensive, Burton coming in, provoking him into counter-attacks that mostly were slipped, opening up for the real attack. To me, Mayweather was the underdog, here. Not in terms of skill itself, but of tactics. What he said about this fight shows wisdom. A really nice fight! But you got to cut off the coments, though. SUPER ANNOYING.
It's seriously sad. A bit into the video and I could already tell they weren't going to acknowledge emanuel at all. It really did ruin the fight a bit in my opinion since they both did well, wish emanuel was given more credit though
The commentators seem to have been missing the true nature, volume and extent of the counters being landed by Emanuel throughout. He always caught many more shots on his gloves and his amazing defencive guard than many people often realised also. Floyd himself stated that Emanuel Burton-Augustus was the most difficult fight and the greatest opponent of his entire career. Although Floyd still clearly won, some of the commentators were certainly being rather biased, and one-pointed in their interpretation and view during this bout, to be sure, and upon watching a little closer, as such, or with a little less biased eyes, would have noted the continual barrage of heavy counters being consistently landed by "The Drunken Master" throughout much, if not all, of the fight, also. Floyd's own words tell the real story a little more clearly, to be sure.
This fight was a non-title fight booked entirely to promote Mayweather before his next big money fight. It makes sense that the commentary team are trying to 'put Floyd over', to use a wresting term. That said, Augustus had an incredible fight. This should have been in Vegas in front of millions of fans and earned him enough money to comfortably retire on, not a sideshow warmup fight on 'KO Nation'.
LOLOL 19:07-19:10--the boxing commentator shouts, "Burton blocking Mayweather's right hand with his face!!!" I can't stop laughing! A boxer literally using his face to block? How tough can a dude get!? Give it up for Emmanuel Augustus Berto-- the toughest-grittiest-overly comical-hyperactive-carefree-joy exuding journeyman boxer of our era! This man had demonstrated an unwavering heart against Mayweather and lasted a long time in the ring. It's unfortunate that he's currently in poverty, but he has made his choices (despite some set backs here and there by cold spirited promoters and managers). He has to get back on his feet and have his own late night show. Burton has a sizzling personality; so funny lol
Floyd is not gifted with power, that is why he is a Boxer, a Boxer uses the science of boxing, you hit and not get hit. It is understood that most people that dislike Floyd know very little about boxing, and some are just like the guy you see throwing garbage out the window of his car. I am happy to see that Floyd had a powerful character, no one has been able to get in his head. In any event, if floyd had the gift of punching power, who would have a chance at him. He has traveled this far with out power. Long live the best P4P fighter today. From an appreciative fan, without hate or envy.
FREE-OBO and now combine gifted power with hit and not get hit style. That is Conor McGregor, deadliest counterpunching Ive seen. Conor will own the world after August 26th.
FREE-OBO Actually, Floyd Mayweather has underrated punching power. If he doesn't have, opponents will just walked in him. Marcos Maidana even said before that Mayweather has respectable power. Not a killer type of punch, but enough power to keep his opponents at bay. The problem is his brittle hands. I think if not for his hands, Mayweather would have more KO's in his resume.
@@raygan1221 I agree. Floyd keeps guys guessing...especially the few that come into the ring thinking he has no power; once they get hit they wonder who told them he couldn't punch. if Floyd had a weakness as a fighter it would be that he simply wasn't mean. even with brittle hands he had enough power to keep guys at bay.
yeh tought in the sense of how much punishment the guy took, floyd dominated this scrub. he got hit because he was right in front of the guy the entire fight
bad match up for augustus. his blessed with skills but he chooses to entertain and fight his heart out with a bang. well i enjoy everything he has done in the ring.
To fight the way he did with no real top trainer, taking fights on short notice, and not even watching his opponents fights is nothing short of legendary. He goes into the category of specially talented men that never trained properly because they were extraordinarily talented and if they did, the skill ceiling would've been through the roof. Hard work beats pure talent when talent doesn't work hard.
Emmanuel Augustus is a genius. But Mayweather is a genius and one of the hardest workers in the industry, potentially pound-for-pound in the conversation for greatest of all time. The fact that Augustus pushed him so far shows you just how incredible he is.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. 23-0 (17 KOs) vs. Emanuel Augustus (Burton) 22-16-4 (10 KOs) At the time of this match, Augustus went by his birth name, Emanuel Burton. He adopted his father's last name of Augustus when his parents married in 2001. Mayweather, the WBC super featherweight champion, fought Augustus in a non-title bout at lightweight. Augustus entered with a record of 2-4 in his previous six bouts. The two fighters did not have to be separated from a clinch in the entire bout. Mayweather was very dominant in round seven. He landed 45 of 91 punches, while Augustus landed only 6 of 64. Mayweather landed 287 of 669 punches (43%) and Augustus landed 108 of 526 (21%). During a 2012 conference call with boxing reporters, Mayweather said Augustus was the toughest fighter he had faced. "I'm going to rate Emanuel Augustus first compared to all the guys that I've faced," Mayweather said. "He didn't have the best record in the sport of boxing, he has never won a world title, but he came to fight." [1]
Lol since when is Floyd known for destroying his opponents. Floyd is wise by playing it safe. He only brawled when he was on the lighter weight divisions.
watch the fight with no volume and you can see its a closer fight than the crowd and announcers make it seem. Burton does a good job rolling and slipping a lot of the punches.
REAL TALK 100 suspicious stoppage right when mayweather broke his hand. idk, closer fight than you think. everything was skewered towards mayweather with out even saying one positive thing about burton. They kept checking his ear, how many times you seen a boxer repeatedly get their ear checked for brain damage and I've seen plenty beaten worse than this, Mayweather opponents even.
Paul C close fight how? Augustus didn't win one round. Mayweather connected 20% higher on power punches and total punches. Augustus for the most part was ineffective except for a few moments when he caught him with a few good punches. Mayweather beat those raggedy braids off Augustus head.
Paul C Exactly, perfect example was on the 3rd round where burton tagged Floyd with some combinations and the announcers were acting as if it was Floyd that was hitting Burton, I was like WTF? the commenting and the overall bias made you think Floyd was having his way with him when in reality he was barely winning.
Honestly Floyd was punishing dude the whole fight. The reason the announcers wasn't reacting highly to Emmanuel punches because he landed a nice combo once every 5 rounds. Floyd was demolishing him the only reason this is considered a great fight is because Emmanuel was a great punching bag.
You don't need to study your opponent when you have solid fundamentals. Burton was robbed a majority of his career and he was clearly robbed of his opportunity to finish this fight. Mayweather's production clearly puppeteered this event and its outcome.
Kairi Ali he just showed you he was a fighter. You’re a dangerous kind of person, to see how a man can beat someone up for 9 rounds and say he isn’t a fighter.
Kairi Ali Floyd has stood and fought multiple. While I agree he’s a technical fighter, he can fucking fight! His words exactly. Floyd is definitely a fighter. Precise fighter, but a fighter nonetheless
Floyd can clearly be in exciting fights. It has to do with what the other guy is doing. So if you're watching a "boring" Floyd fight, it means his opponent isn't doing his job very well. The great thing about Floyd is he can beat people several different ways. He can win by going toe to toe, he can also win by putting on a masterful display of boxing. Too bad some people are too dumb to appreciate that kind of artistry.
***** Yeah, I hate it when people compare Floyd to young knock out artists. The thing is, when Floyd was young and fighting at a lower weight he was knocking a lot of people out too.
Totally bullshit. He protected his status after his victory over dela hoya, he marketed himself well, and pick the who he fights and when to fight top class fighters. He basically wins a round by default, you have to really show that you hurt floyd to win a round against him. You can outbox him and he will still win a round. All he got to do is run, hug and throw a few punches then he wins the round. The commentators will just promote his landed punches or when floyd does the dodging..hell even ones that landed on floyd counted as miss.... even on compubox. After delahoya fight, boxing was just business for floyd, only way to beat him is if someone knocks him out, but with all the running and hugging, and the ref helping him out when he is in trouble that is close to impossible. He even got away with a knock down when his glove touched the canvass. He got away with dirty tactics, he got away with a sucker punch, he got away with fighting overweight against someone who jumped two weightclass to fight him. He got away with multiple loses already.
st ephen you blind, cant you even read basic stats? Hes been knocked down before professionally . He does win round by default unless the opponent does something remarkable while floyd doesn’t have to do any. Yes keep sending insults they are clear sign of “you cant win an argument”.
@@quertbarbie62 name the dirty tactics and " sucker punch" please. Who did he pick after DLH at a suspect time? Who did he pick that was even losing? @@marcusclarkson2657 you are a blind floyd fan. nothing i say will make you see it. coz if you were not, you would have seen it. You would have seen how the ref had helped him out a few times to make the fight in his favour, like breaking the fighters up (hatton fight for example) or when letting floyd clinch till kingdom come, depending on when floyd benefits from it. instead of fighting cotto, mosely or margarito he so called "retired". He sucker punched the head butting ortiz. He fought canelo before canelo primes and gained elite experience, he ducked others until they started getting beaten and showed signs of vulnerability. He fought marquez overweight after making marquez jump 2 weight divisions, he used banned substance in the pacquiao fight, yet gained a "retro approval" a month later... after years of calling the shit to pacquiao where in fact floyd got caught red handed. He got beat by pacquiao, he didn't even beat pacquiao... yet he won the fight when all he did was wrestle pac, throw in some lowblows, land a couple of good shots which gets repeated in the replay like 6 times, even if it only happened once in the fight, all along ignoring how pac is beating floyd with body shots while dodging floyds punches as well, albeit it is not getting recognised.
I don't think I have ever seen two men impose their will so viciously the way these two are going at it! It's like Burton feels the shots but it's making him stronger cuz he just looks even more pissed off every time lol Floyd looks irritated too that the guy won't go down
At 29:33 Emanuel hacked Floyd felly shell with a smile, if he had dodged the counter punch and left hooked him, it would be a great moment in the history of boxing, both are great fighters .
Imagine fighting a bear having only a stick. U beat the hell out of the bear but it still keep coming matter how hard and often u hit. That's how I see this fight. What a Warrior Burton is and Mayweather quickness is another level.
IMO it looks to me that Emanuel August had a rhythm that allowed him to slip punches and gave Mayweather an incredibly hard time in Round One. He also kept his distance from Mayweather as well. Both of these combined made it hard for Mayweather to land anything in Round 1. However, his trainer said that he needed to get in there and start taking the initiative to land some punches himself. His trainer was right but in being more initiative offensively, Emanuael changed his rhythm as well as his distance. To me Emanuael, is not a strong initiator who should punch first. He is more of a counter puncher who uses his rhythm and "drunken-boxing" style to create openings as well as to get his opponent's to put themselves in bad positions. When he does so, he goes in and counter-attacks. That won't work with Mayweather who is himself a strong counterpuncher so he went into a more initiative strategy to follow his trainers advice in going in and looking to land punches. His actual movements were the same as in the first round in the proceeding rounds but he changed his rhythm and positioned himself to trade shots with Floyd in close range. He held his own but he needed to figure out a way to utilize a rhythm that could keep Mayweather guessing while allowing him to be more offensively effective.
This was a great show. It had a real local show feel, as well as catering for the major network. It also had a very 90s feel to it (I know it was in 2000, keyboard smartasses).
I have found that watching Emmanuel Augustus Burton, while in slow motion is an eye-opening experience and a remarkable discovery, which brings the realisation that he is blocking, dodging, and even more so old-school rolling with those punches..... meanwhile the commentators rave like Burton is being hit solid, or at all, really. ( See 20:24 for example...) Here and there he takes a shot, but you also come to realise in slow-mo just how many shots Burton actually lands. See his incredible fight with "Irish" Mickey Ward, too, especially in slow motion to truly see the genius of Emmanuel Burton. True exponent of the old-school tricks and style, the Drunken Master, dancing again.
I'M SAYING! I was furious when they stopped this one, he was blockinh everything before they threw in the towel. Augustus knew wtf he was doing. Insane guy.
"Man somebody hit me in the top of the head! Man somebody hit me in the top of the head with a ice pack!" Lol nah bruh, those were fist hitting you from all angles. Super tough tho, no quit in him 💪🏽🥊
As of January 2022, this is the most challenging fight of Floyd Mayweather career hands down. Compared to the Mayweather fights with any other fighters they don't compare to what Mr. Burton displayed. A totally exciting fight.
I'm not a huge boxing fan so take my opinion with a grain of salt but I don't think it was his toughest challenge physically but mentally hell yea. Floyd was like a snake and cat fused together with how fast he was striking and dude cameback wit punches even harder every time he got punched. That wit mess anyone up mentally especially if they hit their opponents so many times and they came back fighting even harder. Those were probably Emanuels highlights of the fight was after each time he got hit he came wit something. I gotta rewatch the fight but I believe canelo is the most challenging fight or fighter Floyd has ever had. I remember after watching that fight I felt like canelo was the only guy that could beat Floyd if they had a rematch
@@AntJonez218 The fight was over in the 7th. That's when Floyd was teaching him. In a truly competitive fight your not able to "showboat". Then Flyold skated for the remainder of the fight and Canelo didn't want any more smoke.

I don't know what the judges and commentator were watching, but it wasn't as one-sided as they were saying. Emmanuel was blocking a lot and he was riding a lot. He showed incredible determination and toughness, with skill and constant aggression against one of the best of all time. Much respect.
Damn thought Floyd was a runner this whole time until this fight much respect to both fighters and that's from a fan of the "Drunken Master" the most robbed in boxing history

Easyyyyy!!!
Nah..Augustus was show-boating from early on, & Floyd retaliated by going into the pocket & letting fly, but he was never in trouble. Augustus couldn't hurt a fly so Floyd could afford to trade with him.
way to easy for Floyd

big mo right after fighting
Yeah bro. The lad was a straight up legend of boxing. Fought so many great fighters of his era, and his level of technical skill is just incredible..(!!)...( Just check out his highlights reel on RUclips, for instance..!!)
With a more calculated approach, and if life had gone differently for the lad, he would have been one of the most renowned boxers ever.
Truly, an absolute legend of the sweet science, to be sure.

emanuel's not a hard hitting brawler but he has the talent and experience to act like one if that's what the fight calls for. he never scouted his opponents before fights, sometimes never even looked at them until the bell rang (head down during instructions and facing the corner as the fight is about to start). it's half the reason he has slow starts, because he feels out his opponent in the first couple of rounds.
a lot of people here are saying "damn look at mayweather in this fight, he's fighting like he should always fight!". no, emanuel's making him fight this way, and it's how mayweather doesnt want to fight. this is one of the few occasions where floyd couldn't control his opponent. that's why he says it's one of his toughest fights despite the result never being in trouble.
i just wish the production wasnt completely biased so emanuel got some recognition for the effort he put in. especially when you see guys like victor ortiz get the massive payday and then mentally quit the fight in the 4th round
mrgor24 floyd just had a solid chin. idk why you ignore that fact
TrollMaster300 point out the part of my post where i said otherwise
I think floyd say this was one his toughest fights for mutiple reasons like you said he couldn't control the fight, no matter what he hit Emmanuel with he just smiled and kept coming, Plus floyd took alot shots he was bleeding and did hurt his hands trying to knock Emmanuel out.
mrgor24 now imagine a lw Duran instead...Superior in every department. Unmatched on the inside. Good job Floyd fought in the modern era

It looked even to me. The announcer on the other hand... And yeah Judge's idk. I think Emanuel fought well.
My thoughts as well. But the black sounding announcer at least gave Burton some credit.

People aren't born with power haha they develop it. But yeah, I get you. Burton made it so entertaining.
Aaron Cacho power is something your born with. strength is something u can develop. thats the difference between power punchers that can ko at anytime and heavy handed punchers that use strength to wear the other man down.

Viet Mime Nothat's complete bullshit,
nayem ali No its not. When its comes to PUNCHING POWER, you either have it or you don't. Every boxer knows this. Its been this way forever. You can work out and get muscles and more strength, but punchers are born punchers.
Burton really is fighting his own fight. He doesn't let anyone else dictate how he goes about it. Really a beautiful thing.

The amount of skill shown in this fight is crazy. One of my all time favorite fights.
What a fight! Floyd's reflexes are very impressive, very intelligent fighter.
It's like all they can say is "FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR, MY GOD, WHAT A CHAMPION, OH MY GOD,"
when he hits back with a single right hand after eating twenty.
XD
That was a great fight!
There is a reason Floyd said this was his toughest fight, it was actually closer than it originally looks
No it wasn't he beat the fuck out of augustus every round. His closest fights were the castillo 1 and maidana 1 fights.
Closer that it looks? What fight were you watching?
He said them mufuckin punches going off like fireworks 💥😭😭😭💪🏾
Mayweather was in deep trouble in the 8th round but the ref saved him by checking Emanual ear to stall time for Mayweather .

Floyd Mayweather Jr. 23-0 (17 KOs) vs. Emanuel Augustus (Burton) 22-16-4 (10 KOs)
At the time of this match, Augustus went by his birth name, Emanuel Burton.
"He didn't have the best record in the sport of boxing, he has never won a world title, but he came to fight." [1]

watch the fight with no volume and you can see its a closer fight than the crowd and announcers make it seem.
R2 G2 I said closer than the crowd and announcers made it seem. if the fight had been allowed to continue who knows?
That Burton guy had heart! Got whooped kept going...

You don't need to study your opponent when you have solid fundamentals. Burton was robbed a majority of his career and he was clearly robbed of his opportunity to finish this fight. Mayweather's production clearly puppeteered this event and its outcome.
To date, Emanuel Burton was the toughest dude Floyd ever faced.
absolutely, i tell people this all the time!!!
Floyd's actually said in an interview that this is the toughest fight he's ever had
Ruben Williams yeah, i remember that
toughest means = come and look at me at my best, still ducking pacqiao tho.
I still don't get that kind of talk. Burton's tough in the sense of taking punches, but Floyd won every minute of this fight clearly.
To me this was Floyd’s toughest fight. Nobody was able to connect against him like this man. It made Floyd that much better of a fighter after this.
AND THEY SAID FLOYD WAS A RUNNER...THIS SHIT CAN BE WATCHED EACH AND EVERY DAY
My Nigga Augustus got robbed about 7-8 times.
He was, this dude weak as hell!!
It's true. Mayweather was a runner. No shame in that. He didn't like to get hit. It's okay
*****
Yeah, I hate it when people compare Floyd to young knock out artists.
What difference would it have made in the fight with Mosely had the glove touch been ruled a knockdown? Name some of the hugging and running fights please.
A little bit after the first round you can read floyd's lips and somewhat here him say " I can't hit him " amazing
I don't think I have ever seen two men impose their will so viciously the way these two are going at it! It's like Burton feels the shots but it's making him stronger cuz he just looks even more pissed off every time lol Floyd looks irritated too that the guy won't go down
lol
Ali Frazier. This fight reminded me of their fights a little bit.
Mayweather was asked many times which was his toughest fight. He always talks about Emanuel Agustus.
40:08 Floyd said "his hands" just shows how far back the damage started
Thought he said head hurts
Floyd's speed and accuracy is incredible.
💯
His right hand was an absolute sniper
To bad its weak cant even put down mcgregor 🤣 harrrd werrrk
@@immortal2893 he literally got a tko
At 29:33 Emanuel hacked Floyd felly shell with a smile, if he had dodged the counter punch and left hooked him, it would be a great moment in the history of boxing, both are great fighters .
Imagine fighting a bear having only a stick. U beat the hell out of the bear but it still keep coming matter how hard and often u hit. That's how I see this fight. What a Warrior Burton is and Mayweather quickness is another level.
DAYYYYUUUUMMMM!!!
Y'all peep Mayweather's *HAND SPEED*?!?! #CotDamn
Willie HavMire he looks slow
Floyd knocked dude's braids loose! 😂😂
😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜
it's heart breaking to watch... but still one of my favorite fights ever
This was a great show. It had a real local show feel, as well as catering for the major network. It also had a very 90s feel to it (I know it was in 2000, keyboard smartasses).
I thought the exact same thing. Very 90's old scool TV feel :D
It’s super nostalgic! I wish so much we can go back to the 90’s! Such a purer time
I have found that watching Emmanuel Augustus Burton, while in slow motion is an eye-opening experience and a remarkable discovery, which brings the realisation that he is blocking, dodging, and even more so old-school rolling with those punches..... meanwhile the commentators rave like Burton is being hit solid, or at all, really. ( See 20:24 for example...)
Here and there he takes a shot, but you also come to realise in slow-mo just how many shots Burton actually lands.
Insane guy.
@@stillakilla no, for many reasons, that was a good stoppage.
This must be the fight that did Mayweathers hands in..
No it was the Gatti fight.
He broke one of his hands in a fight and had to fight southpaw after knocking the guy down early and that’s what did his hands in
It was round 7. Floyd switches southpaw and at the end shakes his right hand on the way back to his corner. In between rounds he says "my hand."
40:11 “My hand hurt”
“Keep taking it to the body then”
@Rizzo 660 Thats when Mayweather realized the hard way that there are better ways to win fights
This is a toe to toe fight, every fight do not need to be like that
vital dorvil k
exactly but did you hear how Augustus say he had to chase Floyd when clearly Floyd was in the pocket.
6 punches in a row .one fuckn hand roy jones junior style.. true champions find a way to win. stops the fight with one hand no complaining. he earned the right to say he wants to fight smarter not harder. he earned the right to secure his family and remain healthy and choose to take less punishment the rest of his career. he stood there and slugged it out got a busted up nose and all. nothing else to prove I'm glad he chose to "box" the rest of his career
DeAndreas Anderson take them nuts of yah chin boy
I don't know what the judges and commentator were watching, but it wasn't as one-sided as they were saying.
Emmanuel was blocking a lot and he was riding a lot.
He showed incredible determination and toughness, with skill and constant aggression against one of the best of all time.
Much respect.
...i like that floyd gave Augustus the upmost respect after the fight and even said that the judges robbed him a lot of times and he knows it's true 👍
😂Boxing back then look like there was a lot of extortion going on 😂
Lol shit it still is extortion going on 😂😂😂
Who came here after seeing Floyd on world star/ million dollars worth of game talking about his toughest fighters
Emanuel Augustus got great heart
Full and speedy recovery to Emmanuel.
Great boxer, great showman.
Emanuel Augustus my favorite EVER!!! This was like watchinng a DBZ fight, non stop boxing, not the clinch fest of today
25:45 felt like a scene from a movie
“See this proves floyd never had real knockout power” nah Emanuel just used to fighting way bigger guys with way stronger punching power lmao
Don't matter mate. You hit a guy flush that many times over 9 rounds you should have him out of there.
Not exactly. Emanuel's defense was incredible. Your opponent's strength never matters when you know how to roll with punches.
@@TheDosage-Music that’s also a factor too man facts
0:25 “Super Saiyan Mosley”
Damn thought Floyd was a runner this whole time until this fight much respect to both fighters and that's from a fan of the "Drunken Master" the most robbed in boxing history
Quit listening to Mexicans and think for yourself
@@MrJaccTrippa Dude you are tripping so damn hard. Emmanuel was robbed hardcore from so many fights. He was robbed in this one too because he landed so many shots this fight, more than Mayweather. Emmanuel was 100% one of the most entertaining talents in boxing with a ring IQ, and reaction speed that I can't even begin to fathom. I bet you also say that Holyfield never cheated judging from your previous assumption that Mexicans influenced the commenter above's opinion? If you're making assumptions, I will too.
