There is a video of them performing this live in a green room, without mics, privately for a small select group of people. No effects and no editing and it's amazing.
Here is the link for the off mic private performance.! I'd love to see you to react to it. 😊 If you want a live version with Matt instead of Avi, I would do the one from the Hollywood bowl 2022. You could even react to both of them. 😁 ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html
Amazing note: This *Grammy award winning* piece was not done in a studio. It was recorded in a closet (Yes, that's right!) and the video was filmed in an apartment. This was after they got dropped from the original The Sing Off recording contract. They basically fought their way back on RUclips. They have always been very aware that their online fan base got them where they are. Yes, that is Mitch. He and Kirsty change their appearance a lot. The only personnel change was when Avi left and was replaced by Matt. It was a friendly split. There is a great (and sad) video of all of the original 5 together where Avi explains to their fans that he just can't keep up the touring schedule anymore, but also understands how vital it is to the group moving forward. I'm not sure, but I think he participated in them picking Matt. They didn't just rush out to fill the spot. They waited until they felt they had the right person. They do a wonderful version of "Dancing on My Own" with just the 4 of them and Kevin on cello.
Reminds me of Sir Paul McCartney talking about singing in "the Bog"... the acoustic chamber... which is, of course a bathroom. He's sit on the toilet and play She Love You or whatever in the confined space. Why we sound better in the shower.
Just for how outstanding this song is: There was no Grammy award category that this song fell into when it was released. So the awards committee *changed the categories so they could give this song an award.*
Funnily Matt was actually with the group before it was PTX. Scott, Mitch, Kristy and Matt were an acapella group in college together and they went on to form PTX without Matt after college.
@@d100sanityloss7 Ummm. No. Kirsten, Mitch, and Scott all grew up in Arligton, TX and went to the same high-school. At the time of the Sing-off, Scott was in college in California and Kirsty was in collage in Oklahoma. Mitch missed his high-school graduation ceremony to make it to the auditions. Matt is from the east coast and graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
I believe it's a myth that Avi was involved in picking Matt, but I've definitely seen him say good things about him and current PTX-lineup since the switch.
If you want to see the very definition of "TIGHT", next up is GOLD. EVERYONE SITTING ON A COUCH DOING IT ALL IN ONE TAKE! SIMPLY AMAZING! LOVE AGAIN is an early origional that will blow you away as well. If you want to hear some more featuring Avi, THERE'S A LIGHT IN THE HALLWAY is supurb! Joined for fresh PENTATONIX reactions. You are about to become a true PENTAHOLIC!😂❤❤
Watch a few seconds of the Kiiara original to fully appreciate what they did with a heavily produced electronic tune. One of my favorites along with Bohemian Rhapsody and a hundred others
Yes to Gold! But please watch or know the original first - just to see how amazing they are with this song. Also their cover of Megan Trainer (sp?) song No. Sassy Mitch is a wonderful thing to see! Yes, it's Mitch in this, the only change in the group is Avi, now Matt is the base. For a live performance of this, look into the Hollywood Bowl Concert - lots of high quality videos showcasing their awesomeness!
Mitch and Kirsty change their appearance frequently - since the videos span a number of years you will see different hair styles and colors. It's so fun to watch the reactions of new fans - they amaze us too. Avi left voluntarily years ago and was replaced by Matt Sallee - he is really great and he and Kevin have terrific chemistry.
PTX launched their career when they were very young - the Trio (Scott, Kirstie and Mitch) were only 19. This came out when they were 21/22. Scott & Kevin have matured but are still recognizable. Kirstie & Mitch have had more changes (both physically and stylistically), so they’re considered the chameleons of the group. The only lineup change in PTX history is Avi leaving and Matt joining - and that occurred in Fall 2017, so Matt has now been with them for as long as Avi was. This arrangement won PTX their first Grammy award.🤯
Bohemian Rhapsody is where I would go next or maybe one of the evolutions. The music that they do is so varied that there is something for literally everyone. I will say that the earlier evolutions are all one take. They would go through it a few times and then post the best one.
I have already forgotten what you've reacted to but Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Say Something, Problem, Sing (an original), Happy Now (an original) and ALL of their Christmas music starting with Mary, Did You Know.
This won a Grammy. Yes, that's Mitch. He and Kirstie are the chameleons of the group. They always look different!! I think you'll really enjoy "Gold"- check it out!! PS - I've been a "Pentaholic" since 2012, "Somebody That I Used To Know" did it. Another incredible piece! Welcome!!! You're gonna have so much fun!!!
Popspring 2016! 3 originals and the Evolution of Michael Jackson, live. Sound and filming by MTV, so really good quality. Plus they are in Japan and dressed with a nod to anime characters. 🥰 Don't worry about length or pausing- we are there for it.
Yes, it's Mitch! You have SO many delights in store in this rabbit hole. So many covers (or upgrades as we Pentaholics call them) such as 'Imagine', 'Mad World', 'The Prayer' to name just a few, then they have awesome originals ('Love Again' was made shortly after this one, and it's one of my faves. Written by Avi and Kevin). And once we get a bit nearer the end of the year, there's the Christmas stuff. Christmas carols like you've never heard them before. You'll be chair dancing, I promise. ❤
Aviholics unite! 😂 This is one of my faves, and whilst Avi doesn’t get enough appreciation for some of the sounds he makes (often people presume Kevin is making all of them), it’s awesome when reactors pick them up. He called his efforts “bassboxing” at one point. Avi’s solo work is a must-do, you won’t be disappointed I’m sure you’ve already been made aware by now, but this won them their first Grammy. Not exactly surprising when you see this live. Loving the reactions ♥️
@@nickforell1 When they won the Grammy for Daft Punk Medley (for arrangement), the Music Academy had to make a new category which included a capella arrangment. There is a video where they go up to receive the Grammy (with Ben Bramm who does a lot of their arranging), and Scott explains to the audience that they recorded it in a closet and filmed it in the kitchen in one of their apartments. Here's a link to that: ruclips.net/video/AUMH57NS6hg/видео.html Looking forward to more PTX.
We're glad you joined the party. Nobody is ready to go home, lol. Yes, that is Mitch. This arrangement was well worthy of the Grammy they received for it. I thought you might be interested to know that both Scott and Mitch have very recently put out new original music, and Kevin is just about to drop a new cover (K-over). Scott is about to release an EP and has already dropped "Mars," "Parallel," and "Four." Mitch released a new original on Friday through his Messer side project called, Oblivion," which I've had on repeat ever since, I love it so much. There will be new PTX music, too at some point soon, I suspect. They collaborated to write a bunch of new music several months ago, so we should be seeing that drop.
Great review! I'm so glad to hear there'll be some new PTX!!!!!! I've been missing their new stuff since last Christmas. Scott's solo's are wonderful and I can't wait for the whole album to drop. I'm about to listen to Oblivion in a few minutes and expect to be blown away.
Bohemian Rhapsody will blow your mind. Also, if you're famíliar with The Prayer (made famous by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli), you'll find their version is superb. Can't go wrong with this group.
@@nickforell1 I saw them last Thursday in Houston, they did this and yes, it is still just as crisp and unbelievable...there's always a 10-15 second beat after they finish when the audience can't believe what they just heard/saw, then, of course, the THUNDEROUS applause and whooping/hollering
Avi is the only change to the group. He left in 2017. I highly suggest you check out his solo work -- it is amazing!! Matt joined the group, and PTX is still going strong.
Yes! Avis solo work. When im a fool live from sunset sound studios, All is Well live from 7 layers sessions, fan cam by Mace Huber of Avi singing House of the rising Sun, then absolutely everything he has released.
Pentatonix are the only singers who can make themselves ’skip’ ❤ You need to watch all the sing-off performances. In order. Their journey was incredible…
@@WilBgames Believe it or not PTX does too. Now, they don’t use as many “effects” and they can recreate it live but if you listen to this video and the live one you can tell a big difference in the sound. PTX and Voiceplay actually use the exact same audio engineer for their processing. I actually like the added effects because it’s an artistic and creative addition that keeps things extra interesting.
Pentatonix They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on RUclips, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his RUclips videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on RUclips), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on RUclips, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cove r of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. A good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They have Grammy wins for Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene featuring Dolly Parton. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star! They came 3rd in the 2023 Masked Singer performing as "California Rolls" being unmasked in May 23. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.
I think I saw someone talk about Daft Punk in concert... but this is one song where there is actually a full cellphone video of them performing this one in a green room completely off-mic, which is even better for newcomers to see imo. You just have to look for "Daft Punk private performance"... it's from aroind 2015.
It's going to be good. Such nostalgia for pentaholics and I'm still in awe of them when thinking of their live performance of this at their concert. Gosh, I've been a fan since their Sing Off days. Now Scott and Mark are married. Insane!!
@@nickforell1 Yes! it's been over a decade. Thank you for going down the rabbit hole with us. It's never too late. Yes, Daft Punk saw this when it was first released and approved. Isn't it amazing that five human vocal cords could produce such eargasm sounds?
PTX rule #3 - it's always Mitch and Kirstie. They change their looks, sometimes drastically, quite frequently. You can often date a song based on the Mitch phase of hair and clothing.
I was late to the party too. I found them during the pandemic lockdown when I was searching RUclips for any and all entertainment options. Thank goodness I found Pentatonix (then Superfruit, then Messer (Mitch), Scott’s solo stuff, Avi’s solo career, Kirstie too, etc.) and I was set for quite a while. I’m glad you’ve fallen in love with them too, welcome to the family. Loved your reaction, keep ‘em coming. Peace … And yes, it’s always Mitch and it’s always Kirstie.
“God only knows what I’d be without you” ( Beach Boys cover) and “I can’t help falling in love with you “ ( Elvis Presley cover)are two of my favorites. They do the songs more than perfect.
Continue down this rabbit hole and you will not regret it. I found them about 18 months ago and have been addicted ever since. Can't wait to see more reactions to them
It doesn't matter that you are late, that just means that you have hundreds of Pentatonix cover/up-grades and all their original songs to enjoy. As a pentaholic, I love seeing the shock on people's face when they discover the amazing talent of Pentatonix. Also, they have put out multiple Christmas albums, so you should start thinking now about doing a set of Christmas music from them when we get closer to the holidays this year. I love all their music, so you really can't go wrong picking a song of theirs to review. If you want to hear them live, try their Popspring performance.
So many reactors spend too much time trying to "expose" trickery. We all sometimes need to remember that there still is absolute pure talent out there that does not need to "fake it" You are experiencing it.
This won them their first Grammy. They did have a music publisher at the time, but no studio, so they recorded the audio in one of their closets (for the acoustics). The location where they'd planned to film the video fell through at the last minute so they bought some black bed sheets and set up a sort of booth in one of their kitchens where they had it filmed (that seems to have been the idea of FifGen, the company that did the filming). Total budget was around $400.
Really enjoying your reactions! It's especially satisfying when you're so familiar with the original artists and can see the talent and artistry PTX bring to the table. Regarding the beatboxing, yes, Avi often helps Kevin out with percussion, but actually every member will take on extra sounds if they aren't busy with the melody or harmony. This is part of the genius of Pentatonix. They are so flexible and innovative, no one member is isolated in a particular role. Scott does bass when Avi (or Matt) sing lead, Avi jumps around from bassline to percussion to backup harmony with ease, they each move from melody to harmony to sneaking in a little vocal filler... whatever it takes to round out the sound. This is why many of us so love their earlier one-take videos where you get to see what each member is doing throughout the song. Two favourites of mine are their cover of Kiiara's "Gold," and their "Evolution of Michael Jackson" medley. Here for all the PTX you can handle!
Great reaction!! And, honestly, i expected nothing less from you. This medley has wow'd soo many people. It's really hard to fathom that the group recorded this in their own apartment using a closet for the audio and editing on the kitchen counter. They only spent about $400 for basic supplies...costuming, lighting and a few other bits and bobs, but they did send it off for professional mixing and editing. It earned them their first Grammy for the arrangement.
The audio and video were actually done in Avi & Kevin's apartment by FifGen Films after the original recording venue cancelled on them at the last minute and they had to cobble things together to stay on schedule. (FifGen has done several PTX videos, including this "Daft Punk Medley" one, "Can't Hold Us", "Radioactive. etc.) FifGen then edited the footage to what we see here. Here's the link to an interview done back then with Jimmy Bates, the principle at FifGen, explaining how it all came down. strobist.blogspot.com/2013/11/pentatonix-daft-punk-video-low-budget.html
Mitch-- of course he looks different. That's what Mitch does. He's a chameleon specializing in the avaunt guard usually, but now and then he puts on his "citizens disguise" so he looks like someone your grandma would say "Oh, he's such a nice clean-cut boy". Don't worry, now you'll know it's him when you see the guy in the giant fuzzy heart suit or the silky green window curtains. We have learned to enjoy trying to guess what he'll look like next. If someone says "who's that?" It's Mitch.
Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Evolution of Music, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Gold, Can’y Sleep Love, Sing, Cracked, and I could go on and on. These are just some of my favorites. The one that started me on this journey was a non-professional video of someone in the audience at the Star Vista in Singapore recording Aha. Although the picture and sound weren’t the best it blew me away. Which is a testament to how good they are. Keep going you won’t be sorry.
Their first Grammy! :) There's definitely some work done in post, as is normal for professionally recorded music. But I've heard this in concert 4 times since 2015 - they do a phenomenal job with this live, little difference to the recording! Only Kevin beatboxing (which makes it even more remarkable!), though Avi is adding effects (like the wind sounds). Only one member change, Avi to Matt in 2017.
1. I'm late to the party, too. I only discovered Pentatonix last September. 2. As far as I can tell, no one is going home. They may be passed out on the floor, but they're still here and the party is still going on strong.
Really good reaction, Nick. Its entertaining to watch someone get blown away with a Pentatonix rendition. I suggest you watch "Gold" next. The camera is on the entire group throughout the live performance so you can see how each of the member adds to the tossed salad of magic. Or you can react to "Gold", or maybe even "Gold". But I would really like to see your reaction to 'Gold". Wait . . . my wife just came in. She just suggested one also . . . she wants you to watch "Gold". So, any of those four will be, as you phrased it, an "eargasm" .
His songwriting is exceptional, to say the least, honed in college with a minor in composition and arranging (he was an opera and classical voice major). While PTX's contract at the time specified that all original songs be credited to the group as a whole, Avi was the primary writer of "Run To You" and "Standing By", and wrote "Love Again" with Kevin (arrangements done with the help of Ben Bram).
Again man, you have this ability to reflect genuine appreciation and awe for these guys, in a way that visually translates your emotions through the screen for your audience. It doesn’t come off as fake or embellished, which makes the reaction so much more enjoyable than some other reactors. Excellent reaction man.
You are late to the party but we Pentaholics love when newbies discover them…always fun! Watch…Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, 90’s Dance medley…but everything they have done is crazy good.
I was late to the party, too (2021), but never fear, the party is still going strong with more people showing up all the time 😊. I also recommend Gold and Love Again (original), as well as 90’s Dance Medley, Amazing Grace, Evolution of Michael Jackson and Bohemian Rhapsody. Anything from the Hollywood Bowl (live) would be epic and mind-blowing as well. Blinding Lights and When the Party’s Over are from their lockdown EP and they are excellent too. Then there’s Can’t Hold Us, Mad World, Sound of Silence, New Rules x Are You That Somebody and……..you get the picture. You are going to be busy for about the next three years.
Easy to remember. No matter what they look like, the ONLY member change is Avi was replaced by Matt. Mitch and Kirtin look different every time you see them
I actually found PTX through Avi kaplan's solo music. So I was an Avi fan before knowing of PTX. I would love for you to check out his solo work. His first solo release was Change on the Rise in 2019. Great reaction, cheers!
Here's a formal welcome to the addiction as a fellow Pentaholic! LOL It's mind blowing that this was filmed in a CLOSET! I'm sure someone else has already given you the full story behind this. I'm so glad you did this one. I couldn't wait to watch. THANK YOU!!!!
And THIS is why this got an Emmy! The thing about PTX is that each is a brilliant Lead Singer in their own right but they work in perfect synch to maximise each others potential and help each other SHINE! The foundation to it all is Kevin's Maestro level Beat Boxing, ably assisted by Avi, who's deep rich { & 'Delicious'! } Bass is beautifully counterpointed by Mitch's unique bright counter tenor. All bring their best game - but then - they always do! Enjoy your PTX Rabbit Hole. {# Ps. Nick - You're sick! Is it Covid? If you get: chest / arm / jaw pain, S.O.B. { Shortness Of Breath }, Waves of fatigue or severe headache - go straight - repeat STRAIGHT - to your nearest Emergency Dept. Don't mess about. This thing is still killing people - including young people with no comorbidities } L
Yes that’s Mitch!! Their live performance is just as amazing of Daft Punk. Love your reaction and you’re really going to love going down this rabbit hole!! PTX is such a talented amazing group! They won a Grammy for this!!
Hey there, Nick. If you are going down this Pentatonix rabbit hole, everyone is going to suggest their favorites. But don't forget to check out SuperFruit too. It is just Scott and Mitch being silly and talented at the same time. My faves are SuperFruit's "Defying Gravity" from Wicked! and their "Frozen Medley" with Kirstie. Watch the "bloopers" at the end of the videos. Great Reactions, Nick!
This is the ultimate not cheating song. There is a phone camera recording of them doing this in a green room. No mics, no reverb, no tricks, no mix and it still sounds amazing. Their earliest songs really had minimal post production other than balancing, mixing and reverb. They have started adding layers, and instruments more often. However, the harmonies matter the most and that is always the emphasis.
Nick, it’s never too late to join the party! Mitch and Kirstie are always changing their look. Yes, there are Dear’s that are Pentaholic’s and Home Fries and fans of Forestella😂❤. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, thank you.
Welcome on board. Was Like you, thought I was late to the party, but the PTX party is still roaring. I like everything I have heard from the group, but one of my favorites is "Can you feel the love tonight" or any of their evolutions. If you like messages, try "Imagine". Thanks for reacting to this one.
This won them their first Grammy. Mitch and Kirsty both like changing up their looks a lot, so sometimes people think they're different people. There has only been one lineup change, when Avi left for family reasons and wsa replaced by Matt Sallee.
Hey, Nick! Since you enjoy Avi so much, I recommend checking out some of his solo work. A couple of my favorites are "Change on the Rise" and "Otherside". It's his own style of music and nothing like Pentatonix, but it's authentic Avi & incredibly good! Have a wonderful day, my friend!
this one is so fun when they do it live! i would recommend either their performance at the hollywood bowl 2022 or the one titled "daft punk private performance" where they did it off mic for a vip group. both on youtube and lots of fun
They won a Grammy for this one. They literally filmed this in a closet on a $400 budget. They are Amazing!!!!! Do Bohemian Rapsody next. It will completely blow you away. A prop is used. It's only a prop. In live performances it us not used and effect is the same. 😊
Mitch and Kirsten always look different but it’s always them. The only change is Avi was bass. 2011-2017. They were constantly touring and Avis mom got cancer and he needed to stop. Then Matt came as base 2017- now. that’s the only change. They are on tour this summer in USA. They toured Asia in Spring and then Europe and now they are in USA. Check tickets. They are so fun in person
This is one of my all time fave PTX songs, glad you loved it as much as we all do. As you are loving PTX it may be time to dive further into the Acapella rabbit hole. I would suggest looking to Home Free and Voiceplay if you have not done so already. I would suggest for Home Free starting with something like Ring of Fire or Man of Constant Sorrow. For Voiceplay, depending on what you like they have a little of everything in their back catalogue, you can't go wrong with any of their new ones, but I would suggest starting with something like Oogie Boogie's song from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and going from there. Enjoy the rabbit hole, lets see how far you can fall down it.
their cover of Gold is just amazing and to see it done live their version of carol of the bells for Christmas under the stars is still a favourite version of mine almost known as Mitch barely breaths
Love your reaction 👍 Avi and Kevin together, unbeatable ! I recommend Gold by Kiara, but you have to listen to the original if you don't know that song. You'll see how they put their touch on it, it's unbeleivable ! They have been recorded live on a coach for this one, amazing ! Only Avi left the group so yeah, if you hesitate Is this Mitch ? Yes it is, he always changed his look 😜 Did you hear what Avi's doing on his own now ? Just fantastic 😍 He's an amazing singer, song writer, musician and arrangist ! Change on the rise is the first song he released solo and it's way different from PTX ... Totally an other atmosphere ... Love Avi ❤️ Hope to see you react to this one. Thanks 😘
PTX is always amazing. Daft Punk is no easy task. Get Lucky wore on me too, but they are so good at their art, I could get back into this version. The entire RAM album is gold. Not one bad song.
Love your reactions! Suggestions: Give a gander at their Sing Off performance of Kanye's Love Lockdown - That was at the really early part of their career and even then, it's kind of mind-blowing how thoroughly the five of them filled the stage - Also, look for Can't Hold Us, Bohemian Rhapsody and their 90s Dance Medley - And so many othes............ - C
@@nickforell1When you get around to reacting to the Imagine cover, be sure it’s the Official video as it has unique visuals that a live performance doesn’t have. It is special. Enjoyed this one and excited to see which one you do next❣️
You are not late to the party. Pentatonix' is always happy to find new people that discover them. Pentaholics will flock to your channel like you will not believe. Scott and Mitch met when they were 10 years old doing "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and have been best friends since. Mitch met Kirstin around age 8 as they grew up together through Community Arts Theater in Arlington, Texas. Their parents had to drive them around so they all know each other and started "The Trio" in High School. The 5 are bonded together ❤️ even if the band stopped performing. All 5 at Kevin's wedding a few years ago. All 5 together for Matt's Wedding in January 2022. Last week they were all 5 at Scott's wedding. Kevin's baby girl was born a few years ago and he gave Kirstin advice when she had her baby last June. The professional video was filmed in a closet at Kevin and Avi's apartment and put together at the kitchen counter. It was their first of three Grammys. Alan will give the full info and most of it is on RUclips, including 2 PentaConferences with their parents.
If you have to ask, "Is that Mitch?" then it's yes. He changes his looks a lot. Only member change was Avi and Matt. We all love and miss Avi, but if you hear his solo stuff, you will understand. His solo stuff is very different but it is great! Love Again is one of their originals and it is an EDM vibe and it is Freakin' awesome. Avi's bass drops and Kevins beats are incredible. Then there's Mitch.......you must see it!!! It should have earned them another Grammy! Don't know how it didn't.
I'm going to suggest a dark horse song or two-- if you want to really hear the difference that Avi/the bass can bring to a song, try out Royals! If you want to see them all in the same room just with mics, do Gold (but please watch Kiiara's version first because if you don't know the original song you can't appreciate how amazing their version is), if you'd like to hear a PTX original they wrote themselves, check out The Lucky Ones (the whole album! But specifically the titular song) or Sing (a video that includes some famous faces!). Welcome to the club!
The only member change was in 2017 when Matt took over from Avi. The other four members are original. Mitch and Kirstin change their looks all the time which confuses people. Kevin is the beatboxer, but all members do effects as needed. Likewise, you can hear Kevin’s tenor voice in some of the background harmonies. Recommend their cover of Mad World.
If you want to watch earlier stuff, I always enjoy the sing off performance of "Dog Days are Over". One of their best from the show! Or, i always recommend "Silent Night" or "Mary Did you know" for a start off to their Christmas catalog. Have fun!
The only member change was Matt replacing Avi circa 2017. Mitch and Kirsty frequently change their looks and got older so it's normal to not recognize them when hopping across 12 years of content
PTX is so amazing. They are top of the class and then some. I love how they make every song their own but also paying homage to the original band. They also are GREAT at putting in so much emotion and feeling into all they do. You really get the feelings of the story that is being portrayed in the songs. You can tell that they really "feel" the song when they sing it. I love how they take you on a rollercoaster ride in most of their songs too. Case in point, " Halleluiah", if you haven't checked that yet, you MUST !! One of their most viewed videos. Have fun in this PTX rabbit hole.🤣🤣🤯🤯
Fantastic reaction... when you realize the talent they have to arrange these ..well many view them as upgrades..versions or covers its mindblowing.. might i suggest you continue with the covers and virw as a comparison to the known version(s)... bohemian rhapsody...imagine...can you feel the love tonight are my first thoughts, but however you go.. enjoy 😊
Yes it’s Mitch. He’s lost weight and changed his look constantly. FYI the only person best boxing was Kevin! AVI sang bass notes the whole time. A few times he made whistle sounds, while singing/humming bass notes, but otherwise was singing bass the whole time. Kevin did it all, cause he’s a beast!
It doesn't matter when you discover them. They have so many fans because they are so awesome. You will have so much fun every time you listen to a new song. I listen to them every day. I can't wait for more reactions from you.
Fun fact about this video! This video got PTX their first grammy. Incredibly, the entire video was filmed and edited in a closet/kitchen in Avi and Kevin's apartment. They filmed the whole thing on a 400 dollar budget. Insane what you can do when you put your mind to it!
There is a video of them performing this live in a green room, without mics, privately for a small select group of people. No effects and no editing and it's amazing.
I totally believe I’m just in awe!
Here is the link for the off mic private performance.! I'd love to see you to react to it. 😊 If you want a live version with Matt instead of Avi, I would do the one from the Hollywood bowl 2022. You could even react to both of them. 😁
ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/a8PZ7_KMGM4/видео.html
Hollywood bowl performance. 😊
The live version was for "Make a Wish Foundation." They don't even have microphones. Someone just recorded it on their phone!!!
that was incredible, they sound exactly the same
Amazing note: This *Grammy award winning* piece was not done in a studio.
Gold is awesome!! Yes, you must see it.
I second this! Just subscribed for the PTX rabbit hole haha
Yes, do Gold! And Silent Night in the cathedral!
Kirsti changes her look from video to video. I don't know how she does it.
This arrangement won PTX their first Grammy award.🤯
yes that's Mitch, and watching this with you makes me go "OMG they're babies!"
Bohemian Rhapsody is where I would go next or maybe one of the evolutions. The music that they do is so varied that there is something for literally everyone. I will say that the earlier evolutions are all one take. They would go through it a few times and then post the best one.
"Gold" next please and their original "Love Again" is great. Everything they do is amazing!
Oh, no. Nobody's leaving! If you enjoy Avi's voice, you should check out his solo work. His voice is exceptional.
Let’s keep the party going
*\o/* Still a Pentaholic & still enthralled by Avi's voice-the best of both worlds! 🤓
Avi’s solo work is a must-do, you won’t be disappointed
I’m sure you’ve already been made aware by now, but this won them their first Grammy. Not exactly surprising when you see this live. Loving the reactions ♥️
Bass boxing is the perfect term!
And then, of course, there's Avi's ever-growing catalog of solo original music.
Hey hey! I’m glad the party is alive and well :)
@@Gwennedd can’t wait to hear some of their newer stuff too
@@charlottevan_8 oh I’m going to have to check that out!
Bohemian Rhapsody will blow your mind. Also, if you're famíliar with The Prayer (made famous by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli), you'll find their version is superb. Can't go wrong with this group.
That's Mitch! Mr. Chameleon himself! Thanks for reacting to more PTX! Love it!
And you haven’t even seen them doing it live yet! That’s an experience you don’t want to miss- there’s plenty of videos out there. Enjoy!
Cannot wait to see them live :)
It is Mitch, he changes his look very often.
There's a video of Aha live in Singapore Star Vista, Avi starts to demonstrate his voice, the speakers can't handle it and then start Mitch up ...😂
@@nickforell1 I saw them last Thursday in Houston, they did this and yes, it is still just as crisp and unbelievable...there's always a 10-15 second beat after they finish when the audience can't believe what they just heard/saw, then, of course, the THUNDEROUS applause and whooping/hollering
We love seeing new people discover them cuz us oldies LOVE reliving these moments through you!! 🩷 90s Dance Medley!! Fun!
Avi is the only change to the group. He left in 2017. I highly suggest you check out his solo work -- it is amazing!! Matt joined the group, and PTX is still going strong.
I agree, Avi's solo music is fabulous !
Yes Avi is amazing!!!!
Yes! Avis solo work. When im a fool live from sunset sound studios, All is Well live from 7 layers sessions, fan cam by Mace Huber of Avi singing House of the rising Sun, then absolutely everything he has released.
SOOOOOOOOO Love Avi's music!
Kevin's solo work is also amazing!
Pentatonix are the only singers who can make themselves ’skip’ ❤
You need to watch all the sing-off performances. In order. Their journey was incredible…
Thank you Holly! Okay 👌
Voiceplay does it in their version of Dream On!
@@thisismetoday7423 Voiceplay might have been a digital effect, they do a lot of heavy audio processing, it's a whole music video production process.
Imagine, Shallow, Say Something, Oh come all ye faithful.
And all without blinking an eye. Literally.
Pentatonix
They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that.
The founding members are:-
Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease);
Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and
Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese).
A good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/
Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work.
Avi’s solo work is amazing.
PTX rule #3 - it's always Mitch and Kirstie. They change their looks, sometimes drastically, quite frequently. You can often date a song based on the Mitch phase of hair and clothing.
It's hard to believe that Mitch and Scott were only 19 I think when this video was made. They were so young, but already so good!
This won them their first Grammy.
Here's the link to an interview done back then with Jimmy Bates, the principle at FifGen, explaining how it all came down. strobist.blogspot.com/2013/11/pentatonix-daft-punk-video-low-budget.html
that's Mitch! and they won their first of 3 grammys for this one! :)
Avi has a solo career now, mostly his own music. Check out "Change on the Rise" as a great sample.
Great suggestion!
Well, you should definitely check out Avi's solo work because it's amazing. He's a really great songwriter as well.
Thank you Justin, that means so much to me. Really glad you’re enjoying
I love that you are enjoying them for the first time! This is one of my fav groups. Loved them from the sing off!
Avi was my personal favorite, too, but I love Mitch, too! They’re all actually amazing!
Thank you! So glad to be here
And THIS is why this got an Emmy!
I get goosebumps from this song no matter how many times I listen to them, Their cover with Lindsey stirling might also be worth listening to.
when i seen the mv AND reactors reacting to it enough times to know it frame by frame even with the heavy filter
Yes that’s Mitch!! Their live performance is just as amazing of Daft Punk. Love your reaction and you’re really going to love going down this rabbit hole!! PTX is such a talented amazing group! They won a Grammy for this!!
I think this is PTX's funnest video/song. The Fifgen editing should have won an award too.
The editing is amazing
Hey there, Nick. If you are going down this Pentatonix rabbit hole, everyone is going to suggest their favorites. But don't forget to check out SuperFruit too. It is just Scott and Mitch being silly and talented at the same time. My faves are SuperFruit's "Defying Gravity" from Wicked! and their "Frozen Medley" with Kirstie. Watch the "bloopers" at the end of the videos. Great Reactions, Nick!
Nice to see your mind blown! This is a masterpiece without a doubt. I recommend going to the very beginning with the Sing Off...
This was their first Grammy win! 3 Grammys to date. Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! Can you say GOAT?!?! 😂
GOAT
This is the ultimate not cheating song. There is a phone camera recording of them doing this in a green room. No mics, no reverb, no tricks, no mix and it still sounds amazing.
Their earliest songs really had minimal post production other than balancing, mixing and reverb.
They have started adding layers, and instruments more often. However, the harmonies matter the most and that is always the emphasis.
They are truly incredible. I love PENTATONIX 🔥❤️🙌
Nick, it’s never too late to join the party! Mitch and Kirstie are always changing their look. Yes, there are Dear’s that are Pentaholic’s and Home Fries and fans of Forestella😂❤. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction, thank you.
Thank you Janet, they are amazing!
@@nickforell1 they definitely are ❤️
Welcome on board. Was Like you, thought I was late to the party, but the PTX party is still roaring. I like everything I have heard from the group, but one of my favorites is "Can you feel the love tonight" or any of their evolutions. If you like messages, try "Imagine". Thanks for reacting to this one.
You're in for a ride Nick! Great reaction and I hit your sub button!
Awesome thank you!
This video was done in Avi and Kevin's apartment. It cost them $400.00 and they won their first Grammy for it.
$400 well spent
This won them their first Grammy. Mitch and Kirsty both like changing up their looks a lot, so sometimes people think they're different people. There has only been one lineup change, when Avi left for family reasons and wsa replaced by Matt Sallee.
Hey, Nick! Since you enjoy Avi so much, I recommend checking out some of his solo work. A couple of my favorites are "Change on the Rise" and "Otherside". It's his own style of music and nothing like Pentatonix, but it's authentic Avi & incredibly good! Have a wonderful day, my friend!
I'll check it out! Thank you 😊
this one is so fun when they do it live! i would recommend either their performance at the hollywood bowl 2022 or the one titled "daft punk private performance" where they did it off mic for a vip group. both on youtube and lots of fun
This might have been the first Pentatonix song I heard, got me hooked on their style RIGHT away, I love Daft Punk.
You should try one of their many incredible originals, Love Again.
Thank you!
Hi, great reaction ❤❤❤ Avi's solo are amazing!!! Please check them out!!! I recommend " Change on the Rise" ... Hugs from Chile 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱❤️🇨🇱❤️🇨🇱
their cover of Gold is just amazing and to see it done live their version of carol of the bells for Christmas under the stars is still a favourite version of mine almost known as Mitch barely breaths
Thanks 😘
I mean I’ve listened to all of these songs. I like daft punk!
This was their first Grammy win! Mitch, Scott and Kristen were about 18-19 years old.
PTX is always amazing. Daft Punk is no easy task. Get Lucky wore on me too, but they are so good at their art, I could get back into this version.
The entire RAM album is gold. Not one bad song.
Love your reactions!
Suggestions: Give a gander at their Sing Off performance of Kanye's Love Lockdown - That was at the really early part of their career and even then, it's kind of mind-blowing how thoroughly the five of them filled the stage -
Also, look for Can't Hold Us, Bohemian Rhapsody and their 90s Dance Medley - And so many othes............ - C
Thank you 😊 great suggestions!
"Love Again" will blow you away with Avi and Kevin on bass and beat box.
"Run to You" is an Avi bass masterpiece written by him and Kevin.
Thank you for your reaction-- PTX!!
No problem 😊
If you have to ask, "Is that Mitch?" then it's yes. He changes his looks a lot. Only member change was Avi and Matt. We all love and miss Avi, but if you hear his solo stuff, you will understand. His solo stuff is very different but it is great! Love Again is one of their originals and it is an EDM vibe and it is Freakin' awesome. Avi's bass drops and Kevins beats are incredible. Then there's Mitch.......you must see it!!! It should have earned them another Grammy! Don't know how it didn't.
Now you see why they won a Grammy for this song? It's mind blowing! Thanks for another great reaction, btw!
Thank you too!
It was recorded in the bathroom and kitchen for $400
@@kellymaldia128 Yes. Yes, it was.
For sheer beautiful singing, My Heart With You.
Oh this is great! My 1st rabbithole was Pentatonix, my 2nd is Ren, and I'll never tire of watching enthusiastic reactors.
Subbed! Let's Go.
If you want to watch earlier stuff, I always enjoy the sing off performance of "Dog Days are Over". One of their best from the show! Or, i always recommend "Silent Night" or "Mary Did you know" for a start off to their Christmas catalog. Have fun!
I have VIP tickets to see them in September!! I’m so excited! ❤
The only member change was Matt replacing Avi circa 2017. Mitch and Kirsty frequently change their looks and got older so it's normal to not recognize them when hopping across 12 years of content
Now you begin to see why we love these guys. Such variety between this and your 1st 2 reactions. And there is SO much more !
More to come!
Fantastic reaction... when you realize the talent they have to arrange these ..well many view them as upgrades..versions or covers its mindblowing.. might i suggest you continue with the covers and virw as a comparison to the known version(s)... bohemian rhapsody...imagine...can you feel the love tonight are my first thoughts, but however you go.. enjoy 😊
Thank you Randy, I love can you feel the love tonight
Oh wow!
