@@najeeholmes4405 Actually, the audio was recorded in Avi's closet; the video was recorded in their makeup artist's kitchen. Yes, Pentatonix lip-synchs their videos (gasp!). The *way* they lip-synch is to actually sing in the video, so their movements are authentic and in proper time, but then the audio is dubbed in. It's quite intelligent.
Also recommend Gold. It’s a cover of Kiiara. It’s live so you can see who is singing what. Mitch does the part they had to use a computer for in the original. Definitely watch the original first so you can compare.
Good reaction, liked it. That high note you wondered about: That is all Mitch, no sound effect or autotune. Check out this off-mic private performance they did and compare it to the original video: ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html If you liked this kind of music from them, check out their original song Love Again. Kevin goes even crazier with the beatbox there.
Mitch hitting the note did not require autotune, however slight autotune was put on the vocals in post production to add a more “techno” sound which is more fitting for this arrangement.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your reactions. Just your honest surprise and enjoyment of a new genre is so much fun, and I love the genuineness. Thanks for doing more PTX! Also, whenever you have to ask “how does he [Mitch] do that?” the answer is: that’s just Mitch for you. There’s a video out there somewhere showcasing his range (which is insane) and one of the clips in there is him imitating the squeaking of a marker on a whiteboard (perfectly). Edit of edit: You might also enjoy “Love Again” which is an original, has a very EDM vibe, and if you thought they were staring into your soul *this* time…. also, their cover of “Radioactive” with Lindsey Stirling is amazing.
"How do you make your voice sound robotic and high-pitched at the same time?" The answer is.... Mitch Grassi! 😎 And you haven't even heard half of what he's capable of yet.
Their medleys are pure gold. They have an amazing ability to transition from song to song with no effort. It’s amazing. Great reaction! Their “evolution of...” videos are all great. They just released a 90’s dance medley. It’s pretty sweet.
Thanks for all your great reactions. Good a Capella is grounded in the arrangement. That is where PTX shines. All of their voices are superb, but the "magic" happens when they are "assigned" the music "parts". Working together to sound like a seamless track takes talent and hard work. The three main singers, Scott, Mitch and Kirstie, have been singing together since they were 10 years old. They know each other completely. That and the "luck" of getting Kevin and Avi (and later, Matt) as the Percussion and Bass has made PTX the best of the best. Hard work and talent. Basically that combination works in any field.
I agree with you! I would add that they are also very smart about finding other talented professionals to work with, like the folks they got to do this video, their sound engineers, even their stylist. They pay attention to every detail. I think Ben Bram is another member they couldn't do without - he's a genius, as well!
While I agree with most of your sentiments, I have to point out that most of these currently popular acapella-groups (Pentatonix, Home Free, Voiceplay etc.) have quite a lot of post-production in most of their official music-vids which goes unnoticed. The vids that are done in one continuous take without any special effects also have less sound-editing, but even those have some.
@@ilesalmo7724 True. But the fact that it makes a "difference" is strange to me. Unless you are in the room with the performer, listening to a recording is always going to be "produced". Over "produced" is another subject. Some of these discussions turn into some kind of "purity" test for a Capella. If that is more important to the listener, fine. To me it is the whole experience that counts.
I did acapella in high school and you're absolutely right. The arrangement is everything; whether you're 5 people or 30 people (like my class was) you can literally do anything with a solid range of voices, placement in the mix also really helps, the sound engineering that has to go in to acapella is mad.
It is so refreshing watching a "newbie" reacting to PTX. The more PTX you do, the more subscribers you are going to have!! Please check out their originals, on their new album, The Lucky Ones, with singles like "Never Gonna Smile Again, Coffee In Bed, Little Space and my favorite, Different Now. They are playing the cello and piano in the last song I noted!!
There is a live off mic version of this. They won their first Grammy Award for this. Just keep in mind Mitch and Kirstin change their looks a lot. There are so many more.
I LOVE watching reactors when they 1st get introduced to PTX! I love watching faces, shaking heads and continuous, "how?", lol...PLEASE keep 'em coming! And if you ever get a chance, they are a MUST SEE in concert!
I've seen them twice in concert, and it cannot be understated how worth it it is. I will go every time I get the chance because they're absolutely fucking fantastic live, if it's crazy watching the edited versions it's even more incredible to see them doing it live with literally just their voices. Everyone who gets the chance should absolutely try to see them live.
Kirstie said perfecting their sounds takes 4 to 5 times MORE time than music with accompaniment. Many of their rehearsals go 12 hours. They also never arrange/record/perform any song they wouldn’t be able to do live. The sheer amount of time this takes is one reason why Avi Kaplan left the group in late 2017. His mom was ill, and the pace Pentatonix keeps was insane. It was an amicable parting, and Matt Salle has been an awesome addition to the group ever since!
This medley won them their first Grammy... and, if you listen to their acceptance speech, Scott mentions that they recorded it in a closet and filmed it in Avi's kitchen. Recommendations: Love Again: very techno/EDM, but it's original - Avi & Kevin wrote it. Showcases more of Mitch's countertenor range. Can't Sleep Love: Lots of fun, one of their early originals Run to You: stunning five-part harmony original (Kevin, the beatboxer, can sing btw) La La Latch: just fun New Rules x Are You That Somebody: showcasing Matt & Kevin with some amazing beatboxing & bass Aha! Live at the Star Vista: Mitch isn't human Amazing Grace: Will lift your soul Mr. Grinch: Matt leads and is amazing The Lucky Ones: The entire album, not just the song. It's amazing and entirely original, no covers. Mr. Duckbear's videos of their performances on The Sing-Off in 2011. It's where they got their start, and you can watch them grow into the group they are today. Even if you don't react to them all, I recommend watching them.
YES! YES! YES! TO ALL THE ABOVE- Anita Slacks suggestions. La La Latch is a great one, and a little bit Rap in Can't Hold Us. Also Mad World and Havana.

Mitch (the high voice) is my favorite, but they are all my favorite throughout the different songs they do. Enjoy!
You should check out their covers of Hallelujah and Gold. Simply amazing, if very different. If you do Gold, you definitely need to listen to Kiiara's original first in order to be able to truly appreciate what they're doing with it. To me, Gold is one of the most impressive (if deceptively simple) things they've ever done.
It's a joy watching you becoming more and more and aholic with each reaction. I noticed you haven't done Hallelujah. That ones of must as well as amazing grace. There cover of John Lennon's imagine is extremely powerful. They have an original called Love again. There cover of Macklemore and Louis can't hold us far surpasses the original. In February they released an album Call the lucky 1 switches all original songs. My favorite Happy now, be my eyes, coffee in bed and love me when I don't. Just dive into the rabbit hole you will not been disappointed
Check out the live, off mic version that’s out there. The 99’s dance medley they released yesterday is insanely good. ‘Can’t Hold Us’ is a good older one, too.
Just so you know...anything they record, they do live at concerts. You should do next "Hallelujah"; then the evolution songs (Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Rihana, and Music). They never use instruments except occasionally Kevin (Beatboxer) brings out his Cello and is classically trained and appeared at Carnegie Hall when 18. This group revolutionized the Acapella genre when they won the Sing Off TV Show (2011) and the rest is history. BTW, Daft Punk was the 1st of their 3 Grammys.
Hi Jentlee, I am pretty much of a progressive rock/ metal fan but you help by get godsmacked by these guys ? I think they have a level of creativity that we are just not use to nor do many seem to have this kind of ability. I am right there with you. My jaw drops ? Not kidding. They appear to be very detailed in all aspects including their videos. I have listened to a lot of their music and it almost doesn't matter what song it is or what genre. They seem to be able to take almost any song and somehow twist it into some ridiculously creative piece of ear candy. An example of this is the song Amazing Grace, Perhaps one of the worst songs ever written and played thousands to times too much. If I never heard it ever again, it would still have been be too many times. And of course, Pentatinox can take that ridiculous song and make a real song out of it ? I have shamefully listened to their version 7 or 8 times. Maybe I am just getting old or something ? lol. I l will leave a link if you want to drop test it. Thanks Jentlee PS. this one only has 11 million views lol ruclips.net/video/Obp-9BEZe1c/видео.html
The one thing I like about PTX is that they would never put out anything that they can't do live. for example there is a version of this video where they perform this song at a meet and greet without any microphones. they are legends for sure!
This is one of the songs that they have not done very often in concert due to its complexity. However, they sometimes did songs for small VIP ticket groups, and there is a video of them doing this medley before a concert in a VIP room, with no mics! Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html I also want to add "Can't Sleep Love" to some of the suggestions below.
They have produced an EP and two albums since quarantine started. Check out their Home EP to see how they are singing from 5 different places. I recommend Blinding Lights.
You should see their off microphone version of this song. It looks like they are in a cafeteria of some company or some big locker room in an event center. You can see a sink the background.
That was recorded during their old VIP performance before the concert. If you pay for the VIP ticket you get to listen to their private off mic performance.
I saw something where Scott and Mitch would sing Daft Punk together songs in Middle School on the school bus What gets me is they sing this Medley in concert. If you want to see their influence, the French military band played their Daft Punk medley for Trump and Macron a couple of years ago. First Grammy ever awarded to any a cappella group was for this Daft Punk medley.
When the group was asked once in an interview who they considered the most talented, they all pointed to Mitch. His voice is so pure and can do so much, especially in the high range, which is why he can do the voice effect you asked about in your commentary. He is just that good. The cool thing though is that all are supremely talented, diverse and combine their talents so well to do such amazing work. One of my favorite groups ever.
They, along with arranger Ben Bram, won a Grammy for this arrangement. The amazing thing that I keep in mind when I watch them is their goal on their videos is to do nothing that they cannot sing in one of their live concerts. They only spent a couple of hundred dollars, total, on this video. It was filmed in one of their apartments. They did part of it in a closet, no less.
I love what you said about finding new music that you may never have heard. Since the pandemic started I’ve picked a new artist and listening to at least 5 of their songs/videos each day. I’ve discovered some amazing music.
U made a comment about how Mitch can make his voice sound robotic and high at the same time and as far as I know it’s just the talent they possess that gives them the ability to make their voices amaze any listeners ears. In 2010 ( I think ) they entered a televised competition called “The Sing Off” where they literally dominated the competition and almost every time the judges gave their critiques they commented on the groups ability to make the songs almost futuristic. I’m a so-called “Metal Head” too, but I absolutely love these guys. So u know, they have been releasing original work as well and some do include instruments.
Q: How did you make your voice sound, like robotic, and high pitched at the same time? A: That's Mitch. After you see Aha, Singapore, the Star Vista, you'll understand.
The "Robotic" voice part you refer to, is because they time their voices to fit perfectly with the flow of the music. The video is showing just that using a separate camera for each vocalist. Pentatonix has actually performed this song in front of Live Audiences. Enjoy.
One interesting additional note: Macron invited Trump to France in 2017 for a celebration of Bastille Day. Macron got a marching band to play Pentatonix's Daft Punk medley for all the dignitaries. Macron was smiling as they played, but Trump looked bored. I always wondered if Trump knew the name of the piece, and if Macron meant anything by his selection of Daft Punk. Now that you've heard the PTX video, you'll recognize that the band played it note for note. Here's a link to that: ruclips.net/video/SKDxlorf6p4/видео.html
I KNEW you would enjoy this one! You're discovering the range of their talent, so for something a little different, I suggest their cover of Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us."
I think it’s so sweet how you’re actually trying to NOT fall into the rabbit hole. But I have a feeling that you did. I like to go back to oldest videos and work my way from there. So…see you later.
Mitch can do whistle-singing but that didn't seem to be this. Where you ask how he made the synth sound it may have been a synthesizer. Listen careful to a version of this back stage on a meet & greet and see what you think. They have used instrumentation on rare songs. It wouldn't surprise me either way. Maybe it was Mitch & that is one reasons they got a Grammy for this one. I don't honestly know.
Hallelujah is their most viewed video. A good reaction would be to watch the music video and then right after the live version from their television special to see how much they sound like their videos when they are live (here is the live version) ruclips.net/video/haFHrfmfHbc/видео.html The music video is easy to find on their channel.
React to Avi Kaplan’s Change On The Rise! He’s done a lot of really great and unique stuff since going solo from Pentatonix. You can just tell he’s got a lot of his soul in it.
YOU are too adorable for words...i cant even :) Accent and smile still slaying me???? BIG FAT CHECKMARK!!!! Stay safe and healthy and keep reacting gorgeous!!!
You need to see this live sir, they have this one in private presentation in a green room. Until then people really believe everything they do without sound enhancement or anything.. only pure gold voices.😏
That’s was so awesome , I liked Daft Punk as well, I missed Daft Punk concert 9 years ago I was sick 🤢with the flue Bed bound . I’m still angry 🤬I didn’t get to see them
Absolutely loved your reaction! I intend to start binge watching your previous ones. You really pay attention to the details and I’m so glad you decided to take a chance on Pentatonix! For a real change of pace you should check out Mad World.
You need to see their Star Wars tribute at the oscars I believe, but not sure. It comes up on google...they have done pure instrumental songs but that one is epic.
This was their first out of three Grammy wins. Made in Kevin(beat boxer( and Avi's (bass) apartment for about $400. please react to Hallelujah (both video and live on Christmas Special 2016). I think it is their most viewed performance. The live will blow your mind in that they sound the same as the video. Their covers of Imagine, Say Something, No (cover of Meghan Trainor)
3 of the members have been singing together since childhood. the bass and beat boxer are additions to them. But honestly they are just aliens come to Earth to show us what real Singing is supposed to be.
They never release anything that they can not do on stage, it took them 5 years before they did Bohemian Rhapsody, it is such an iconic song from the legend Freddie, but Brian May liked it that much he pushed it on all his social media, dropped a few tears, and stated that Freddie would have loved it and these guys. That is one hell of an endorsement.
Hey, they just dropped another medley, and many of us think this is their best one yet: It's called 90'S DANCE MUSIC and I promise you, it's a fabulous bop! Please, do a reaction to this!
I'm certainly a Pentaholic. That's what brought me here but I thought while I was watching your reaction, since you like metal, you might enjoy reviewing some Leo Moracchioli covers. I suggest, "Africa", "Sultans of Swing", "Dance Monkey", and "Listen to Your Heart". Leo (via Frog Leap Studios) is a one-man band that occasionally brings in guest artists to do heavy metal covers of popular songs. Well, he'll do anything, really. He even has a quite nice cover of Baby Shark. For another acapella group, check out Home Free (Man of Constant Sorrow, Ring of Fire, Bohemian Rhapsody).
Your reactions to PTX are my favorite. I love how you’re genuinely appreciative of a music group that you admit you never would have listened to if it weren’t for this channel and you’re actually enjoying it! Music truly does bring people together. 🎵 Who knows, you may eventually admit that you’re an official Pentahaulic? 😉 Keep up the great reactions! 🇺🇸
You keep asking how they do it? Talent, pure talent. Everyone one of them has spectacular talent. And to exemplify that, they perform this LIVE in concert, just the 5 of them standing on stage.
Your reaction was brilliant! This is one of my absolute favourites from them. By now, someone will have told you they won a Grammy for this, and if you love this, you’ll like their original song Love Again. If you want to see them “being” the instruments, check out Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy - which they also won a Grammy for x

There is so much more out there that is fantastic. Try their original song "Sing".
This is my favourite original.
Love your reactions and your look of amazement. Mitch is the one with the super high voice. Thanks for your genuine reactions💕
They do daft punk really often in shows.....
They made this for $400 and won a Grammy!
I saw something where Scott and Mitch would sing Daft Punk together songs in Middle School on the school bus
What gets me is they sing this Medley in concert.
If you want to see their influence, the French military band played their Daft Punk medley for Trump and Macron a couple of years ago.
First Grammy ever awarded to any a cappella group was for this Daft Punk medley.
your surprised expressions are so representative of ptx 😃😃
It's so amusing to watch your facial expressions.
Even when speaking Mitch's voice is stunning, never mind when singing
They, along with arranger Ben Bram, won a Grammy for this arrangement. The amazing thing that I keep in mind when I watch them is their goal on their videos is to do nothing that they cannot sing in one of their live concerts. They only spent a couple of hundred dollars, total, on this video. It was filmed in one of their apartments. They did part of it in a closet, no less.
You should react to Pentatonix- Star wars tribute at the AMA's
I'm glad you are open to different kinds of music. For some great beatboxing and some interesting outfits, try their original "Love Again".
I agree 100%
This is amazing! I love PTX reactions, you should do "12 days of Christmas", they did something incredible there!
I love what you said about finding new music that you may never have heard. Since the pandemic started I’ve picked a new artist and listening to at least 5 of their songs/videos each day. I’ve discovered some amazing music.
Fun fact about this one: This was filmed in Avi's closet on a $400 budget and won them their first grammy!
please react to Love Again (an original), Evolution of Music, and Evolution of Michael Jackson
There are live versions on RUclips if you search. You will be even further amazed how they can just break into this at a moments notice anywhere.
Check out their Michael Jackson mix, Amazing Grace and Hallelujah and there is a private showing they did of Daft Punk with NO mics!
Q: How did you make your voice sound, like robotic, and high pitched at the same time?
A: That's Mitch. After you see Aha, Singapore, the Star Vista, you'll understand.
check out their new medley that was just released a few days ago.....90s Dance Medley.
If you have any doubts about their abilities you should listen their Live cover of Allelujah. Also their live performance at Singapore Star Vista!
The "Robotic" voice part you refer to, is because they time their voices to fit perfectly with the flow of the music. The video is showing just that using a separate camera for each vocalist. Pentatonix has actually performed this song in front of Live Audiences. Enjoy.
You should check "Coffee in Bed" and "90's Dance Medley" out. You will enjoy it.
Here's a link to that: ruclips.net/video/SKDxlorf6p4/видео.html
actually Avi (the bass and the one with beard) has done some sound effects for the movie Blade Runner 2049
Early ptx starship cover the sounds are amazing,
I KNEW you would enjoy this one! You're discovering the range of their talent, so for something a little different, I suggest their cover of Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us."
About the robotic sound that Mitch has, he just can sound like that, in 12 days of Christmas you can see a lot of it.
Actually, the bass, Avi Kaplan, has done sound effects for the last blade movie haha
if you want to see were they began and their growth - plus so really amazing song - react to "The Sing Off season 3" all PTX's performances
I think it’s so sweet how you’re actually trying to NOT fall into the rabbit hole. But I have a feeling that you did. I like to go back to oldest videos and work my way from there. So…see you later.
Djentlee you break me up I just love your reaction to this clever amazing group.
Avi, the one with the beard, did the bass vocals for Hans Zimmer's soundtrack of Blade Runner 2049 (check out "Wallace" and "Her eyes were green").
Subbed! Keep the PTX journey going!
PLEASE WATCH THIS...ITS OFF MIC AT A PRIVATE HOME. ITS THEM DOING DAFT PUNK.
Love your reactions! I’ve watched the first two SO. MANY. TIMES! PTX has so many great videos!! Watching them keeps me busy! See you soon💙
Listen to Love Again if you like PTX so far...its even better than this one!!😃
Hallelujah is their most viewed video. A good reaction would be to watch the music video and then right after the live version from their television special to see how much they sound like their videos when they are live (here is the live version) ruclips.net/video/haFHrfmfHbc/видео.html The music video is easy to find on their channel.
React to Avi Kaplan’s Change On The Rise! He’s done a lot of really great and unique stuff since going solo from Pentatonix. You can just tell he’s got a lot of his soul in it.
They are absolute exceptional artist. And they do this ride live on stage
If you want to see simpler but just as impressive videos try Gold or No.
Gold is a masterpiece
Pentatonix cover of John Lennon Imagine!
I’m still angry 🤬I didn’t get to see them
Love your reactions! Your face says everything. Glad you are enjoying Pentatonix.
It comes up on google...they have done pure instrumental songs but that one is epic.
they've done this live in a room without mics, it's pretty cool
There is a video out there of them singing this live without microphones for a small group of people. They can do it live.
Hey, they just dropped another medley, and many of us think this is their best one yet: It's called 90'S DANCE MUSIC and I promise you, it's a fabulous bop! Please, do a reaction to this!
More pentatonix please👍👍
I love how much this journey is surprising and delighting you. I appreciate the reminder of how it felt when I fell into the PTX rabbit hole! More!
You need to watch them do Mas World!
I love this video! It's amazing.
Okay, I felt guilty adding one of those songs in there. Bohemian Rhapsody by Home Free has a twist to it that is a bit evil.
Your reactions to PTX are my favorite. I love how you’re genuinely appreciative of a music group that you admit you never would have listened to if it weren’t for this channel and you’re actually enjoying it! Music truly does bring people together. 🎵
Who knows, you may eventually admit that you’re an official Pentahaulic? 😉
Keep up the great reactions! 🇺🇸
This won tmem a Grammy..
Mitch face! Love it
I’m tellin ya you won’t regret reacting to hallelujah or their new 90s dance medley
They made this in Avi and Kevin's kitchen and a Closet for $400 and won a Grammy for it
Ah been waiting for this one by u, great reaction!
This is a classic! They won their first Grammy for the arrangement of this video. Great reaction ☺️
