    • @PtxXtp
      @PtxXtp Год назад +13

      Which is crazy to me that a group without instruments have to go up against music with only instruments. Seems like they should both get their own category. I have noticed that Ptx doesn’t even try to put their music up for Grammy consideration for the arrangements category anymore. They’re now doing songs or albums.

    • @LindaVernon
      @LindaVernon Год назад +5

      @@PtxXtp One way the Instrumental/A Capella would benefit them is that it would continue to recognize the genius of their arrangements. 🙂

    • @PtxXtp
      @PtxXtp Год назад +1

      @LindaVernon yes I guess they don't request for their songs to be considered for that category anymore. I think they should maybe go back to trying for arrangement grammys.

    • @LindaVernon
      @LindaVernon Год назад +4

      @@PtxXtp Yes, they have to put their music forward for whatever category they/the record company choose. I think they may see putting foward an album allows them to show the full range of what they do. It's likely harder to win, but does give them more exposure, by even being being nominated.

    With $400, PTX made a futuristic video medley that won them the 2015 Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella. "We recorded this in a bedroom closet, we filmed it in a kitchen, and now we're Grammy winners," the group's Scott Hoying said.

    • @gailseatonhumbert9199
      @gailseatonhumbert9199 Месяц назад +1

      That is not exactly accurate. The $400 was for supplies. The video etc was done by Fifgen Films who did quite a few of their earlier videos.
      2 of the 3 people from Fifgen are The Hound and the Fox.
      I mention it because not giving the credit to Fifgen Films did not help develop their business.

    Pentatonix is truly genre-less which may be why they don’t get airplay. They aren’t a pop group because they won a Grammy for arranging a medley of Daft Punk EDM songs. They aren’t an EDM group because their second Grammy was from arranging Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy a classical tune from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky. They aren’t a classical group because they won their third Grammy with country icon Dolly Parton singing a remake of Jolene a country song. They are a jack of all genres (trades) but they are truly Masters of all of it.

    I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this yet. PTX did this during the transition period between the time they lost their recording contract they’d won on the Sing Off and the time they were signed with RCA. They were building their audience by posting videos “on the couch”. They recorded the audio in Avi and Kevin’s closet and recorded the video in their kitchen-all on a budget of $400! They came up with some extra money for additional editing, but it was still a minimum budget and they won a Grammy! Oh, one more thing… Avi was doing overtone singing on this! Amazing! It was so providential that these extraordinary people got together. Can you imagine a countertenor AND a basso profundo in the same group?! Also, The Trio had known each other since they were 8 years old and sang together in school activities from about 10! When they were in Martin High School together, they were singing in choirs and musical theater productions all the time!

    Have you watched their performance of this live, in a green room somewhere for a private show. No mics, no studio, just the five coming together and go. Absolutely zero mixing or multi tracking or anything else, showing that other than volune as no mics, their performance is very nearly the same as the video. That could also be because it was early days, and their videos were largely diy or found someone on the cheap. So there wouldnt be the after editing and production on that video AS MUCH, though some present. But i love the performances like that, even better than live in concert. Because its so obviously just them and their superiority with acapella people is obvious. Theres a few videos out there. Highly recommend checking it out, id love to see your reaction. Thank you for your breakdown of this song. You took on a very difficult arrangement with expertise. I really look forward to your PTX reactions. I hope you can react to one of their originals from the album "The Lucky Ones".

    Fantastic reaction. I appreciate your musical analysis. Pentatonix has songs in so many genres and different types of songs. There is a Private performance of Daft Punk live as well as a live from the 2022 Hollywood Bowl. I have enjoyed all your PTX reactions and will stay tuned for more. Their catalog of amazing music is deep. You might like their originals Thank You, Sing, Love Again and covers New RulesxAre You That Somebody, Perfect, Can’t Hold Us, and Problem.

    Love this one!! Definitely Grammy worthy! There is a video out there where they sing this start to finish live in a private performance before a concert. It is awesome and to me shows off their real talent even more than the video!!
    Definitely worth a listen even if you don’t video. Love your reaction!! ❤

    There is a phone recorded live concert video of Avi singing in overtones. He sings a steady base note that reminds you of bagpipes and then sings the melody of a song. His ability is pretty insane.
    Google Avi singing The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

    Most of the Pentatonix reactors I've seen started with Hallelujah and got hooked from there. I'm eagerly awaiting your analysis of that one. Over the Rainbow is fantastic as well, but no video to go with it.

    Have you seen the just-released Pearl Fishers duet with Dimash and Placido Domingo? Dimash is impressive and Domingo still has it. Thank goodness he switched to baritone roles at the end of his career. Not sure if you want to throw opera into the mix but there seem to be a lot of people here who appreciate good singing, and the Dimash Dears can't get enough of Dimash's versatility. It's pretty amazing.
    Btw, another vote for you to react to the stripped down version of the Daft Punk medley, maybe for your next PTX reaction while the produced version is fresh in your mind. A rare opportunity to hear them with no enhancement whatsoever.
    Love your reactions and the talent you're attracting to your channel.

    You might like to see their live private performance of this that they did in just a room with no microphones. I think it's cool to hear them completely raw (other than the camera's mic, I guess). It's called "Pentatonix Daft Punk mix private performance" on youtube.
