They were always called "Apps" technically. You have to made an app on the developer portal, then you add a bot user to said app. Now that there are slash commands, you don't always need to add the bot user to your server to use the apps slash commands. Some apps don't even need a bot user to provide slash commands. If all you're doing is responding to slash commands, your app/bot doesn't even need to be in the server as a user. Also the use of "applications" when referring to giving another developer access to your API isn't uncommon. Twitch, Google, Spotify, and Microsoft all also do it. Someone authorizes your app, then your app can do stuff on their behalf

I think what they are trying to do is transition away from the schema of what a bot was (basically automated chat manager), making it instead like an add-on for slack or twitch. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future they added app hosting services, and customizable dashboard tabs for each of the apps. **They are moving to a SaaS schema** I personally would love to see a server stats app with google analytics level functionality, or a moderator dashboard with an easy to access to the ban words list, messages needing review, or possibly an event manager with functionalities like EventBrite PS: This is an optimistic outtake on the situation, who knows where this is going.
I don't think discord cares much about proper localization. I once submitted a report about translation mistake in Nitro theme name and it took them 6 MONTHS to respond. Quality of translation worsened significantly once Discord moved from community translation to some small group which you can't contact with other than through the white page of doom and gloom. Some strings take literally years to be corrected. It seems translators don't use the product they translate, because most of mistakes I saw can be easily spotted if you use Discord regularly, which is typical for community, but it seems the context given to translators is too narrow to make the changes consistent with each other.
Discord still uses "kbps" in Swedish despite this not being how it's formatted in Swedish. "Account Standing" is misunderstood as "account standing up". Still several places in Discord using "Apr 9, 2024" in all locales even though only one locale is using that format and the rest is either "9 April 2024" or "2024 April 9".

That bot in the last video (These 6 Discord Scams are EVERYWHERE!) that managed to call itself Discord and was labelled BOT was labelled as APP by the time you recorded that video. Surely, it can't possibly make the distinction between Discord itself and user-created things more confusing?
What I wanna know is, why did they think implementing swipe to reply a second time was a good idea, when the first round had so visceral a negative reception?
