- Tamiya's new BT-01 chassis is basically a 1/10 scale version of their recently released MB-01. Both kits share quite a few of the same parts with the BT-01 having new suspension arms as well as a few other bits and pieces.
In this video, we crack open the box and show you everything that comes in the kit, including that beautiful Toyota Supra JZA80 body set.
Stay tuned for a full build video coming soon!

Juat missing rear engine rear wheel drive for the 911 kits we know we will be getting.
I will be buying this kit as it looks interesting, love the diffent drive line setups, thats awesome
Ya, the versatility of this car is quite unique. After our initial run, we'll be swapping out the drivetrain and body for another look!
At least the street price is under $140 and a number of distributors you can still use coupons. When I saw the shiny plastic and friction shocks I was hoping it was on the budget and of things which it is. The body is really nice. It’s nice to see the body not drilled too. Drilled bodies are a no-no these days. While I’m not into drifting there will be a lot of folks buy this body for their drift cars given they have the light buckets and such
Yes, it's very budget but, in all honesty, that's what Tamiya does and what we've come to expect.
I can already tell this chassis will be a hit. I've been wanting to build a decent FF car, just gotta wait for a suitable body set.
Ya, actually can't wait to try the FF version soon. Just need to get a body set for it.
What about the BT-01's little brother, the MB-01?
Having built dozens of 1980’s and 1990’s Tamiya this box size and layout is alien to me.
it is quite unique, that's for sure!
i can't believe it's nearly 2024 and tamiya is still shipping these kits without bearings.....
Unfortunately - we have to agree with you on this. Here's our thoughts: 1) Bearings would up the cost, but not by much - maybe a dollar or two. It would be totally worth it though, even if it was $5 more. However - and we're seeing this in a lot of other vehicles starting to come out now, bearings require maintenance, especially if you drive it through water, dirt, snow, etc. Plastic/Oilite bushings allow you to drive it hard and put it away wet. Our guess is this is their reasoning, right or wrong. We'd prefer bearings, TBH.
@@Competitionxit's Tamiya, so it would be a set of abec5 rated bearings rather than a set of cheap Chinese ones, so by the time all the links in the distribution chain have added their cut it would add $20-30 a kit.
And yes, as Tamiya market their budget kits to beginners and children in Japan the plastic bushings means they can be just thrown in a cupboard after use with no worry about wet bearings seizing up.
I picked up my first Tamiya kit, TTO2D RX7 FD3, Came with bearing set, light kit, and an ESC. They should definitely do that more!
@@Competitionxa lot of people just build these kits and put them on the shelf, I myself sometimes do this so don't mind the plastic bushings.
As had been noted, Tamiya uses high quality expensive bearings
Looks like a cool chassis and I like how it can match the real car. I'm not a huge Supra guy so I might wait for the next body option, I also thought Porsche when I saw it can be mid-engine rwd.
Yup. Looking forward to converting it to match a few different body styles to see how it works.
depending on how variable the BT-01 chassis is. Fship, Rship, Midship, how about 4WD, drifting, rally? and wide variety of choices of different body shell is the selling point. US muscler, JDM, UK classis, Italian Sport, Gmbh.....😁
Yes, all of the different chassis variations in one box - that's a W in our book. It's not a super performer, though, but for the price and topping it with an awesome Tamiya body, we're sure this car is going to do well.
Definitely wondering the release on this as nobody has it even listed for sale. Basically no news available since October, then bam, you have one. Jealous!
LOL. Release date is February. Going to have a build video and, hopefully, a couple run videos of it in different chassis configurations.

@@Stempyyou Kev's friend stempy?
@@oldmanbluntz 😂 Nope. Never thought about that connection though!
I just saw in your manual the stock gearing with 22-70t, just like the stock tt-02…. I’m thinking to put the Torque Tuned motor and/or gearing to 24t straight away! 😅. Waiting to see how it runs!
FYI, I’ll paint mine metallic purple. Thanks for the video!
We’re going to start with the stock motor, but we plan on going a bit hotter soon. Wanna see how it’ll handle a 21.5 or even 17.5.
Metallic purple. Interesting…
It's because the internals are the same as the tt02, so that means loads of hop up options already available.
I didn't think it was supposed to come out until next year.
Well, it IS close to the end of the year :)
@@Competitionx so can you buy it now?
@@bradkalman2353February 2024. Soon.
When in February?!
BT01=TT03
Yes, we would agree with that, however we'd hope the TT03 was actually 4WD.
@@Competitionx yes, Tamiya release the TT03 (BT01 with 4wd config) 😅
Built mine and i must say its the WORST kit ive ever built. Its handling is so poor. Ill keep the body but the chassis belongs in the bin. Really disappointed :(
Wouldn't say it's the worst, but the floppy chassis parts are a bit discouraging. Didn't think the handling was all that bad - driven worse. Maybe with a few upgrades it'll get straightened out. Going to try a bit more power than the stock electronics and see what happens.
