Hey Bruce! My father was a Milford firefighter, and was part of the crew that put your fire truck in service in 1990, and operated it until they retired it 18 years later. He actually took it for its last ride for Milford. The truck was Engine 4, and the crew was known as the “Bulls”. I actually got my name because of this exact truck. My father asked me to comment, in hopes that you’d see it, and let him tell you more about that truck and it’s wonderful history.
That’s awesome
I've been a Firefighter/Paramedic for the last 35 years and being an Engineer on many types of apparatus you will learn pretty quick. Congratulations on your new to you piece of equipment. Have fun Bruce.
Sir I myself retired last year after 35 years as a Firefighter/Medic
Ken Bass. I’ve been fire&rescue first responder for 24 years. I’m LT gibson County in west TN
Looks like a small section of brothers! I’m a Captain/Medic with 34 years in. Retire in 1.5 years from the best job (Army was a pretty close 2nd) ever! I’ve got a 59 Seagrave Engine in my backyard and am looking for an old Tiller truck.
only been an EMT for almost 2 years, and I’m loving every second of it, i always love to teach people the ins and outs of an ambulance
Ten years as a FF/EMT till the back gave out. Getting old and arthritis is a bad deal
It was so amazing meeting you today i love your videos I hope you have as much fun with the truck as me my dad and all the cadets keep up the good work man
You was running that hose like a boss
U nd dad did good with the truck kyle
Jd Vlogs thanks bro
Dick Soprano Thanks man 👍🏻😁
Nathaniel Reay Thank you very much Nathaniel 😌
I don't understand all the hate. It's his money. He can do what he wants
They are just jealous. Let it go.
I know, he is so excited to have this truck! People seem to resent other peoples joy. Good on Bruce.
Follow your dreams
True that brotha!
Same with whistlindiesel
Bruce in 2000: "someday I'll own a firetruck"
Bruce in 2020: "I just bought a firetruck".
Hell yeah
Lol
*Person who's house is on fire while Bruce drives by...
"What the hell!?!"
Nawwwww, he's the kind of guy, that would pull over..........locate a hydrant and go to work, untill the troops arrive! But, that's just me.
I could be wrong. :-)
@@nratchr probably not hook up (not legal w/o permit) bur would probably put the tank to use
@@IPAWS2018 I'm sure if a house is on fire they probally wouldn't care if you hooked up

You gotta get a American flag for the back!!🇺🇸
Like a 12' long one so it flaps in the breeze!
Or wrap the truck American Flag style...
.
Well that's nice to get to buy the stuff you dreamed of that not on my list but the bus is still cool tho
please don't
I hope this inspires you young men to join a volunteer department. It's really hard to find members of the younger generations willing to join.
It's hard work. People just dont wanna work hard anymore
I would if they need one so bad my local Volunteers fire station is columbia west hempfield mountville.
I’ve always wanted to do that but don’t really know how. And my fear of heights might not work out so well. I’d walk right into a fire as long as there’s no ladders on the way there.
I would love to volunteer for a fd because I'm all about hardwork and I'm 26 years old and yall r right no younger generation gives a fuck about hardwork all they care is if they look good and don't want to get there hands dirty at all which is pretty sad
@@theaveragejoestinkeringand4407 you have to ask yourself if you're willing to climb a ladder to save a life. Even though as a volunteer you might not have to worry about being put in that situation, but i had to ask myself the same thing before i joined my volunteer department and ive been doing great and having a blast putting in the work
The reason you have to pull your tank circulator is to keep your pump from getting hot not to cool the water
So if the pump gets hot, the water stays cool?
I was taught to recirculate because the pump can start cavitating and basically destroy the impaler
The pump is centrifugal. The impeller constantly spins this heating up the water around it. If you don't circulate the water it can reach boiling temperatures. Wrecking everything and scalding you.
As long as you’re flowing water, you don’t need to recirculate water, but if you’re not flowing, you need to recirculate to keep the pump from burning up.
If your house catches fire your good. Don’t Evan call the boys
Tristan Grainger, Yeah, that’s what he probably means.
Nooo call the FD that truck only has a 500 gallon water tank and he dont got full gear he would be fucked if he didn’t call the FD
I hate to say it... Woooosh
What if the truck catches fire
Ok don't call Evan got it
Now you got a learn how to put that PPE on in less than a minute. Then you’re legit.
You know it's the real deal when you have legit firefighters walking you around the truck
Lol ye
Yoooo!! Shoutout from milford Connecticut here!! That's flippin awesome that it made it all the way there!! Idk if it's the exact truck but it looks REALLY similar to a truck I rode on in the early 90's would be awesome if it was the same one.
Would have been Engine 4 I believe
And this is why I love the internet.
same from East Farms fd in Framington ct
Shoutout from Milford kinda cool my grandfather was the chief when this truck was in service.
Milford brings it all baby
Go to your local water department and rent a construction water meter then you can hook to a hydrant and pull water.
Yes getting a hydrant permit keeps you legit..and he would also need to create an Air Gap to fill the truck to protect the potable water system. As filling the truck is not deemed as an emergency situation and cannot be filled Direct
Bubba Marlow most water utilities will supply you with a back flow preventer that hooks up with the meter. For those vehicles that cannot have an air gap. Unlike a water truck that can have an air gap up top where the water fills into the tank. But some will also make you provide the back flow yourself depending on the utility.
I had Soldiers in Afghanistan always jumping in every fire truck we brought through my yard. I'd add a lock on the doors.
Cool truck
Thank you all for the lesson on Plumbing Theory.. the easiest and oldest form of non mechanical backflow prevention is....... but then again I'm speaking to my jurisdiction in the Maryland DC Virginia southern Pennsylvania area

That truck was like 10 minutes from me in Rutledge that’s pretty cool to see you tuber get it and do stuff to it dad was on the fire department so he knows the truck well
Cbr4life I remember seeing that truck in Rutledge a couple times it was like 20 minutes away from me.
start a truck washing business, make the truck pay for it's self
Yeah but USE the truck to wash trucks and cars hahaha
Be a big hit at Mud Bogs...
Honestly.
Yes i was just about to comment this exact thing, it would be a really awesome, i mean, a mobile car and truck washing business would do so well in cities where people don't have the time to take their cars to get cleaned at a car wash.
Coz many a times even i wish there was a mobile car wash service that would come to my home and wash the car for me, coz its so hectic and busy to get ready for work and hurrying to get to the office.
In addition to that he can also start mobile car and truck repair business, since bruce is an experienced mechanic he can take this truck and also do repairs on cars for people at their home.
Genius.
I know this truck very well from when it was in Rutledge Tennessee!! Pretty awesome you ended up with it!
I believe airport equipment is usually yellow. Drag strips are often old runways.
Keep it yellow.
But seriously, I've seen quite a few highway rescue trucks painted yellow, it's much more visible at night.
Yeah I've delivered to restaurants at the airport and most of there equipment is yellow but its changing to red
In the UK Airport fire truck were always red but now some are going yellow
My firetrucks are green and white. The company still uses those colors too...
kstricl our Engine, wagon, response truck, brush truck, and ambulances were all white and green/yellow. I personally like it better that way, but that’s just me
He seems so happy!
Also keep the yellow it’s a classic

I prefer to see it red; because most fire engines are either red all over or white over red.
@@Mr_Prospector_ Your correct but it's nice to see something different.. People ask me if I'll paint mine from yellow to red and I say hell no leave it yellow till it's ripens up the it will turn red on its own lol

Hey Bruce I just wanted to tell you congrats on getting a fire truck I am a volunteer fireman in North Carolina and I am happy to know that at some point you will donate it to a fire department in need I want to tell you I am thankful for what you do I am thankful for your videos and I hope it continues to grow and you continue to keep doing more and more awesome videos God bless to you and your family
Bruce you can contact MES or ten-8 fire equipment they are in Florida. They sell foam and fire equipment.
Awesome to hear that after you have your fun with it, you plan on making sure that the truck is able to keep doing what it is supposed to do. Help put out fires. Looking forward to all of it.
You're gonna have sooo much fun with this! Decommissioned fire apparatus also make great service trucks to put tools and equipment on! You could load it with tools and a compressor and such, turn it into a service truck and call it "barn find rescue" or something 😁
Steven Bailey idk if it's possible but if it is he could start his own fire dept with it and help his community if he really wanted

As an captain at my firehouse that awesome to see someone who want to do stuff like this... I definitely want to see more your work that you do on this project
I am fairly new to your channel. As a former career chief engineer with 31 years service my duties included fire engine driver's training, engine and ladder company operations, and vehicle maintenance.
A few things to consider so you don't have any mishaps is to secure and empty the interior before raising the cab. The smallest item can roll out of place and strike the windshield and crack or pop it out.
Also another key factor is the engine hours verses miles. In the life span of fire apparatus those numbers will be key, you might only have a few thousand road miles but a much higher reading on the engine hours meter. Where as most fire apparatus only travel a few miles to an emergency call, the could spend hours at higher rpm's at a working fire. That put a lot of wear and tear on the internal parts of the engine.
When drafting from a fresh water or static source, you need to make sure all your connections are air tight and sealed, any air leaks in the hose you will not get any suction to draw the water.
A centrifugal, midship-mounted fire pump on a fire department engine must be primed before it will operate. Primed means fully water flooded and all the air inside the pump casing preferably removed. An operating midship pump filled with water is self-sustaining in that it creates quite a high vacuum at the eye of the impeller. This provides a continuous intake of water when drafting from a static supply source. However, when water is drained and the pump is filled with air, the centrifugal pump impeller is a very poor vacuum pump. I will see if I still have some old training materials and send it your way. Best of luck.
Lime green was introduced to cut down accidents, the yellow was proven to be more visible.
Leave it yellow!
Orange is where it is
I'm gonna say purple! But yellow is also awesome. Lol.
Leave it yellow!!
This beautiful truck needs a Federal 'Q'
I am a firefighter with the Meridian volunteer fire department I can give you a lot of info on that truck. The pipe on the top isn't for a nozzle it's where you can mount a deck gun a high volume fixed unit that you can turn left and right as well as up and down they come in really handy on structure fires.
Hello fellow CT resident. The engine I own came from branford. This video just shows you where units go after being sold. You never can know where they will end up
@@LightbarRepair very true we actually just got a new ladder truck from South Texas that originated in Nebraska

You would be surprised who would mess with a unlocked fire engine. In 2013, we had a meth head steal one of our ambulances while on a call.
Like 2 days after Christmas 2019 a fire ambulance from my county was stolen by a family member of a patient.
That sucks
Have had radios stollen out of our engine before
I've been a First Responder in Fire and EMS for 20 year and am currently an Engineer/Paramedic. My advice would be to check with your local Police Department and advise them of your intentions of fixing it up and donating it. Otherwise, some communities have ordinances prohibiting emergency lights and sirens on a private vehicle if you aren't and active member of a Fire Department. They might ask you to disconnect them while you have it.
Other than that, it looks like a 90 Pierce Custom Cab Pumper, probably 1k gallon tank, pump can be between a 750gpm to a 1260gpm. I wouldn't go too far with the nozzle you had on the 1 1/2" hose. Look for "Pump Ops 1" videos if you want to learn more about the pump panel. Have fun with it buddy!
I'm from shelton Connecticut, 10 min away from milford and theres plenty of towns in Connecticut that have yellow fire trucks, cool truck man, keep up the good work
This truck is the talk of the neighborhood, amazing. Everyone looked hyped

So happy to hear you will be donating it at some point! Let her keep right on doing her job and saving lives.
16:16 oh yeah i can imagine hearing this when he approaches every friends house.
Hey Bruce. As a couple others on here, I am also a professional firefighter. I work for a department in north Pinellas County and I am a driver engineer for the past 18 years. My main job is to basically pump the truck. So if you have any questions about how to pump the truck or why we do what we do, just ask. I will try to help the best I can. Couple things, make sure when you are in pump gear, you are moving water, either flowing a hose or recirculating. The water can get so hot in the pump that you can melt the pump bearing and do serious damage to the pump. Second, dripping water from the pump packing (pump seal) is normal. It is usually a rope seal and they should drip 4 to 10 times a minute when pumping. If its not to bad of a drip, I would leave it. It is not a easy job. Have fun with the truck, and again, any thing, please ask.
I am an Australian fire fighter. I have got the structure gear like that. We all say it's like wearing 3 doonas outside a housfire then u go in and it just becomes hell.
Thank you for serving your neighbours!
My grandfather was a firefighter. Joined the Dublin Fire Brigade back in 1962. This is quite a nice video to watch. I can't wait to see more of it with my grandad😉🤟
From Pawn Stars:
Most children would want a fire engine for Christmas, you actually got yourself a real fire engine.
I own an old rig as well. Please tune those air horns. With the Grover airhorns its a matter of turning the trumpet part of the horn just right and listening for it to sound perfect. If you need any help finding equipment and stuff like that let me know. I have a lot of old equipment, sirens, lights and more.

Yeah i am lucky that i was born before 911 i was born on 01-2001.
Nah, he should leave it yellow, non-red engines are kinda rare...
Sweet! Couple of suggestions on water, if needed, up here the water company will rent you a hydrant meter, they don't care how much water you take from a hydrant as long as you meter and pay for it.
Also check with your local concrete plant, they have high capacity pumps and the one I worked for never minded filling tanks for people who needed lots of water. And of course free is best if you have a pond or similar to draw from.
keep it yellow. good luck with the pump seals. your comment at the walmart parking lot caught my attention. when you said no one would mess with a fire truck. from my experience kids especially have no respect and use them as jungle gyms. when I bring mine anywhere i always have someone with the truck at all times. even adults seem to get childish and enter the cab for selfies. it seems like all boundaries are off when its a fire truck. taking pump lessons is a great idea too. theres also lots of books out there. look up if there is any fire musters in your area. there is usually flea markets to find stuff, they are also a great place to meet other apparatus owners. you should also get real firefighting nozzles because the red ones you were working with are more commercial use not fire department use. looking forward to more vids. if you have any questions just ask. also be careful because ive heard so many stories of equipment being stolen off trucks that sit outside.
F.T.A. Fire Trucks you are 100% correct about how little kids have no respect when it was over at my house before we sold it to Bruce all the little kids that would walk past the truck from there bus stop they would always try to go up and mess with the truck and I would have to go out and stop them btw if u wondering who tf I am when I said before we sold the truck to Bruce you probably think I’m some kid trying to sound “cool” I’m actually the kid in the blue shirt in the video just sayin😐

The time to suit up at the time we trained was 1min and 30sec. They allowed us 2 min before we passed. We also owned a truck it was a 1963 Dodge pumper with 600 + original miles. The yellow truck are usually for airport use. Ours was yellow as well. It had a cannon that you operated from inside the cab. We lived on Lake Oconee Ga. so we got water as much as we wanted. Hey Bruce, love the channel. Another shoutout from Milford, CT!
I see the fire fighting apparatus up here mostly red in color. But there may be others. I saw a truck wrapped in pink for breast cancer awareness once, but not sure about yellow. Could be a from it’s time in Tennessee from what the seller said in the video. I used to dream about trucks and stuff too when I was a kid. Can’t wait to see how the cab over turns out when you’re done. That’s my favorite part of the channel. I also think you handled the Ice Man situation with class. Great job overall !!!

Did the seller say where in Tennessee she(the truck) served?
Don't tear it up. Have a little fun with it. It's still a nice rig and deserves a good home.
That deck gun would be what’s called a stang gun. I literally just sold one the same color as your truck lol
Radical is the first word that comes to mind! 🤩 Those are wider tires in the front, right? The wheels are cool! Did he recommend ear protection while driving? I know it looks cool when you look inside and see them wearing the gear! I can imagine you getting your money back out of it, especially if you take good care of it and even repairing the water leaks. Have fun with it! 😍 I don’t think I would touch the paint on it, unless you want to fix the rusted areas. Improve what you can and then pass it on.
That’s cool if you’re planning to donate the truck to volunteer fire department. I’m sure they’ll really appreciate it. Looks like it’s in very good shape.
I like the classic firetruck red paintjobs, but i also love the old yellow trucks just because they are so rare these days.
“Don’t hit the power lines”. There it is. Guy the power lines are made for more extreme things than just water
Sure thing. But electricity travels through water ;)
You're not too bright, huh? They're not worried about ruining/breaking the power lines. They're worried about getting electrocuted. Most overhead power lines are not insulated.
That's why we don't let cops play with the hoses...
I’m kind of jealous. Makes me miss our old 1832. Was one of our first brand new engines after we merged with the other local dept. my father was capt of the truck. He did all then gold leaf painting on it and the letters on the wheels. Was a great truck. Have fun with it but don’t get into trouble. Make sure your local depts know you have one.

Cool beans, brings back memories. Dad was a volunteer firefighter/lifesquadman when I was a kid. NorthUnion Township had all volunteer back then. Since then I think they have 4-5 full time departments nowadays
Oh yeah, check up on maintaining those hoses. I remember those guys hanging those hoses to keep them from molding or rotting. Have to dry them out. New materials today probably solved that though
You just pushed me deeper into sadness lol! Since I was 5 I’ve wanted to be a firefighter. I did everything to get on the departments I have certifications from FEMA up the ass and EMT courses and training. But I still can’t be on any department because I have epilepsy so I “could be a risk to myself and others on the scene” I still got into a junior program a few years ago sort of... not full time. So I have turnout gear and everything but I’m mostly sad because I wanted to go and get a pumper from one of my local departments and it was the yellow one but it’s gone forever😭

Nice find, looks like a solid engine. Just a small tip, if the guy who sold you the engine and his son are loading hose, put down the camera, honor those that served on that rig and learn some of the trade.
