My OLD SCHOOL Mack Fire Engine VS A BRAND NEW Pierce Pumper
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 фев 2025
- I bought a 1977 Mack CF-600 from the Arcadia, KS fire department for $3,000. Today we're going to compare it to a Pierce pumper that's 43 years newer! The concept hasn't changed much but the technology and functionality has improved by leaps and bounds. It was amazing to get to tour the new truck and see how far we've come from the 70s. Plus their both still powered by massive diesel engines!

I worked at pirsch back in the 80's, some old Pirsch's I scraped out. Saving old parts. Mach hub caps, plenty of pirsch components, gauges, blue prints, emblines. I still currently own a 1931 pirsch pumper # x-kenosha engine #2 in the garage
Alternate title: *GOTCHA*
Yup! Such a step down?!?

JR is two steps ahead of the firefighters when they're explaining things.
Gotcha !
While in the job in ct I was the only duty pump driver on a 1969 Mack CF 600 / E6 5-speed straight exhaust..The best fire truck in the planet..will put any new apparatus to shame
Agree 100%. Nothing purrs like a Mack. Very distinctive look those Macks have. I love the MC heavy rescue.
This video has more 'Gotcha' count than the amount of bullets used in all three John Wick movies.
Gotchajrgo
We had 2 CF 600 in our fleet, a 1000 gpm pumper, and a 75' aerialscope. Both were excellent trucks, served use well. Wish we still had them
The fire truck and warehouse renovation content is 11/10, spent hours in the last couple of days catching up with it all.
Factories should make a vintage series apparatus. Very modern trucks, with state of the art features, but with the good old fashion look.
As a volunteer firefighter emt I can tell you older rigs vs new rigs.
Older rigs- depending on the rigs it’s a love hate relationship. You like how some of the parts are heavier and better built they don’t go with plastic like on newer rigs.
Bad part a lot of older rigs are often worn out
Newer rigs-they have typically bigger engines so if you got more gear and more stuff you can run a little faster. Plus better pump and more modern features.
Bad part- a lot of modern trucks have sensors and stuff like that burn up or go bad or needs recalibrated. So you I tell everyone that buys a new engine keep the old engine at least a year until you can work out the problems on the new one.
Pierce started as an aftermarket truck body builder that got into to fire apparatus by supplying bodies for other manufacturers such as W.S. Darley. They originally started producing mainly rural type apparatus for the market in their region of Wisconsin using Darley pumps. FWD in Clintonville, WI purchased Seagrave fire apparatus in the early ‘60’s giving up their Waterous pump contract. Pierce was able to use Waterous pumps and started national sales. The quality of their product was their advertising and they became a major player. Mack built an excellent truck, but a not so great fire apparatus body. Your Mack needed a new body by Custom Fire Apparatus when it was 12 years old. They slowly dwindled out of fire apparatus. Enjoyed the video👍
One good thing about a fire truck is you can just park wherever you want because people will be like "It was probably an emergency." You'll be cut a mile of slack. 😂
However, one bad thing about having a fire truck is that you can park only where the truck fit, lol
@@leewaymodels luckily in Kansas, that is everywhere lol
YES I have driven down the road in my 1971 SeaGrave and put my turn signals on and the cars will stop coming at me, and WAVE me to turn. I am very careful about my emergency lights being always TURNED "O-F-F"
The gold bulldog on Mack means it is Mack all the way through engine, transmission and rear ends
Love it, 3 generations of Fire truck/engine. 100 year old, 40 year old, brand new! All awesome in their own way!
Good Job! Retired Career Firefighter, 34 years! Thanks for the Publicity!
Watch the video again. Take a shot every time JR says "gotcha". I'm hammered!
Hey, I’m here learning this with you all, what else am I supposed to say? 🤷🏻♂️
@@WatchJRGo 10-4 good buddy
Hah got eeeemmmm!
I was wondering if anyone kept track of the gotchas lol. That new truck was sweet.
@@WatchJRGo apparently not “gotcha” every 5 seconds. Lol
My parents purchased a house directly across from a fire station in Beverly, Massachusetts when I was 10 years old (1970). That gigantic brick building filled with gigantic red trucks was a little boy's dream. The guys always had time to answer our questions and entertain us. That was until the call came in and the loudspeaker started buzzing and in my mind, they went off to have fun. It wasn't until many years later did I realize being a fireman or police officer was dangerous. Thanks for this video and double thanks to all the men and women who protect and save us no matter how bad the situation.
think beverly either is getting or already got a new station due to longer larger units... Mass here also
@@Erik-pr2rf The station is very close to Henry's on Cabot St.
And their station probably didn't have a ramp which is like an invisible barrier separating the public from the firemen.
@@owensweetland342 I drive by the station daily on my way to work. Same building and same everything fifty years later.
That Mack CF will be running far after that Pierce is dead. Those old Mack's were truly workhorses. Ran many calls in a 1981 Mack CF and a 1991 Mack Grumman.
As long as the red cancer didn't eat up the frame, they would go go go. Unfortunately many a puppy dog went to the scrapper because of rot.👍🇺🇸
That's pretty impressive but thanks to Hoovie's continued support, the wizard is getting an aircraft carrier.
Love it!!!!!
True
😂😂
Welcome to Hoovies, i bought the cheapest Air craft carrier in the world, and i gifted to the weezard....
Nope wiz is gonna start collecting tanks and apc
That hosebed is a beaut! 😍 lol. Well designed rig.
Firetruck technology has improved over the years like most everything else. It is interesting to see the comparison to see how far things have come in all those years. FYI: J.R said “gotcha” 39 times (not that it matters).
Amazing how every adult male becomes an 8 year old boy again in a Firehouse, grinning from ear to ear.
Dad was former fireman in next town over he took me to old firehouse and let me slide down fire pole ... At time he was. A zillion ft tall
My uncle was a volunteer. They had an 84’ Mack R pumper truck and i felt like a bad ass sitting behind the wheel lol
JR you would really enjoy the Pierce assembly plant tour in Appleton Wisconsin. I went up years ago when my employer was specing out a new truck. Since Oshkosh owns Pierce they make Oshkosh Stiker fire trucks there too.
Gotcha👍
@@stevenhowell9170 Gotsyer Gotcha!
He might want to consider visiting Air Venture if he ever gets his pilots license. Or just make a road trip out of it if he ever takes up that Pierce Factory tour.
Those Dewalt Jaws of Life are awesome. I used to volunteer for a minute and those hydraulic hose ones were a handful. Thanks for the memories.
I love the fact that the 1991 Mack tanker trucks my department has, have many of the exact same parts as the 1977 Engine, such as the turn signal lever, door latches, pedals, light switches, etc. I guess Mack found/made parts they liked and then continued making trucks with them for decades. Also with the alternator not charging, at least with our Macks, you have to rev the engine above 1200rpm breifly for the alternator to kick in.
Glad I saw this comment, I own a 73'. Definitely a fun truck to own.
Joined the gotcha drinking game and did some awesome’s too. I will sober up in a few days. 😂
came here looking for this as I figured I couldn't be the only one noticing his nervous tick saying "gotcha" constantly.
@@BSGSV He does that a lot when someone else is talking. I think subconsciously he is trying to show the other person that he is interested. Either way its a fun drinking game for us. Bottoms up.
As someone who worked at pierce, this is a high spec truck. There's a lot of departments that order a brand new truck that is closer to yours than the new one
That new truck is sweet but I'm partial to the Mack because I worked on them for a few years before I got my own shop. I bet those guys love the new one though. So fancy!
I bet the main reason they like it over their old 01 is the fact that the A/C works lol
Any work vehicle can have A/C added to it then feel like a Cadillac by comparison to not having it
I love watching old truck content compared to technology of the new trucks! Thank you!
"That's like the Farmboss..."... that's cute! The Farmboss is a homeowner grade saw. This is a professional saw.
Gotcha!
over 30 times! gotcha ! haha
The trucks are interesting but I can't help but recognize these guys' willingness to run into a burning building or craw into precarious situations to save the life of a stranger - simply heroic!
SO cool to see what a new engine has! So much more room, and storage. Oh man, that 1916 Seagrave though - that is gorgeous! The old T-head style engine was about as unkillable as you get; they were real torque-monsters with individually cast (and thus individually repairable) cylinder heads. I love the evolution of the equipment.
Pierce is out of Oshkosh WI. I live in Milwaukee and I see the new trucks and ladders driving down the highway all the time. Pretty cool to see. I miss the fire dept, but I don't miss the sleepless nights and stress the job gave me. I miss running calls and fighting fires. Enjoy the truck JR! You need a name for yours. I say "The War Wagon"
My little local fire department does an open house every summer (well, not 2020) where they serve hot dogs and give a tour of the fire trucks and fire station. Amazing equipment. Wish they did not need to use it so often.
Thanks for sharing ... So Much Respect for the People who do Fire and Rescue !!! ...
You won't do 50 years old with a Pierce, but with a Mack, no problem!👍
Got that right! The Mack face is SO much better looking than that Pierce.
I like JR videos a lot. But sometimes I wonder how much technology we need in certain places. To me, the use of technology for the sake of it just drive prices up and make trucks/cars/tractors more "fragile" as more and more things can break and go wrong. You have to consider these trucks sit around a lot and when they go somewhere they don't go that far. For a similar issue, check out the fight farm tractor owners are having with John Deer and others about technology in the tractors. In a recent JR video you talked about using your great computer to diagnose the many other computers in the car, but "if the failure is mechanical the computer can't help"... :-) We have added computers and sensors everywhere, we now need another computer to diagnose all the computers and sensors in there, and many times they CAN'T help.. :-) "The old truck the A/C was broken"... well, they can be fixed you know... IMHO...
Wicked cool video JR! And big thanks to all First Responders out there for their service!
Your 1977 Mack truck, $3000. The 2020 Pierce? Guessing $750k fully equipped?
Why isn't that first Fire Truck video at 100k likes yet? Let's get on that people and like it!!
Im glad to see Derby seems to be quiet. I Live in New Orleans and a good friend of mine is a Fire Fighter EMT out of Station 29. He tells me they get a call every 30 min... They have a 2018 Pierce Enforcer.
you know at least Westen won't have to call 911 next time he sets something on fire he can just give you a call to bring the fire engine over to his shop lol
Old Macks never die. Jumpseat all the way.
Great jumpseat. Very roomy.
The 1916 truck is a piece of art. Yours is what we were used to see on movies during the 80's and 90's, I always liked them.
The new one is nice, but it doesn't have the same appeal as the old ones, maybe it will in a few years. 🤔
A funny thing is the discalimer, it sounded like they would be making some driving maneuvers and have the truck on two wheels or something. What aren't we supposed to do? Stand by a fire truck and talk about it? 😂
I know you have to do it anyways, but I find it kinda funny. 👍
The pierce has a lot of fancy extras.Does it pump water?
Their new trucks are a whole lot nicer than when I was a fire fighter. Military base we were next to used 4 in quick connect on their trucks so the military bought us adapters for our trucks so we could hook up to their hydrants and trucks.
All respect to our first responders! Making sure they have the latest and greatest equipment is the least we can do to make their jobs a little easier! It is amazing how small changes and innovations make such a big difference...
Auto Ejects are compatible with any 120 VAC charger. For the eject to work there should be 2 wires. One goes to chassis ground and the other should go the signal wire that engages the starter.
^ this.
I like the educational sidebar videos, like this and the huge water pump video.
Long time subscriber and career firefighter, this was a cool surprise. Keep up the great videos JR! 👍
Thank goodness the overhead door wasn't closed, otherwise I might have been able to actually understand the other half of what was said.
The first picture I have of myself is of my fireman father cradling infant me while he stood in front of a Stutz firetruck. Firefighting never held any fascination for me, maybe because I can't stand heights. Neat machines, though!
That Mack CF will outlast anything made today. Guartnee even as old as she is, if you placed her in front line service, she would, still to this day, stay in service more than anything that is produced today. Yeah the same can be said about any piece made during that time, but the fact is, the old Mack CFs would go beyond that. Over 40 years old, and could pump a fire as good as anything made today, that tells you something. Might not have the bells and whistles of today's apparatus, but in the end the goal is to put the wet stuff on the hot stuff, and the old Mack CFs could do that as well if not better than anything ever produced, even to this day.
I can watch this stuff all day.
You've got your fingers in so many projects and I'm loving every one of them haha! Keep killing it man!
Especially looking forward to the Camaro. Can't wait to see that thing with the body on it.
That is so cool you could set that up, very nice of the fire fighters too.
This is definitely in my top 5 of your videos of all time. Excellent!
Cool stuff JR, nice plug for DeWalt.
Amazing new techno for the FIREFIGHTERS!
I was hoping to reach at least 50 gotcha’s but you were able to contain it at 45.. Yes, I counted. Nice job at the tour.
I rode on a brand new one of these Mack trucks when I was 10 years old.
As a car guy my smile lit up when I seen those dewalt batteries with those jaws of life
First, thank you for the men that were in this video and the men and women all over our country. Now who felt like a little kid o. Christmas seeing that truck. Lol I see why I wanted to be a firefighter when i was 10. Lol
Take a shot every time JR says Gotcha
New one's are neat but still love the old one's
Dang, why do I gotta be older than the fire truck, because I just turned 50 this year. God bless.
Lol. Im older
I'm almost old enough to have built that fire truck.
Wish I was fifty again. Great age for a man. Still energetic enough to do most things and wise, established in life. Enjoy it.
Awesome video I didn't know that Mack ended up here in town and awesome showing off the old & new with DFR, If you ever want photos taken of your truck let me know.
Hey JR... I really have enjoyed your videos. It's been awesome watching all the progress you've made. You are a great human being! Thanks for the entertainment and all the great info I've learned from watching
This is the Gotcha video Has a nice ring to it
Such humble men 🙌🏻
I lost it when I saw them sitting next to eachother 😂😂😂
You should let us hear the sirens on it one day
I made a video fixing the siren, it’s in there 🍻
Very cool, had a smile on my face the whole video.
That new rig is huge and awesome!
The Seagrave has the BIG inline 6, not a V12. Seagrave introduced their first V12 in 1932
Great channel JR. Look forward to following the progress of the shop build. So far very impressive.
Impressive and fun day out! I´m always stunned abot how even the newest american trucks still looks ancient compared to our european trucks (no offense)
Used to install compartment doors on Pierce trucks.
That seagrave actually has a 16.6L inline 6 that made about 79hp
So the old firetruck was a 'Seagrave Ferrari F1 V12 Aperta'? I dig it. I think it's awesome Matt from Demolition Ranch made a fire truck, Angry Cops bought a fire truck, and WatchJRGo bought a firetruck and is going to make it a mobile refueling truck for rally's. Make a small fortune. Pump gas, have spare tires, snacks,...
They make those near me, I probably saw it out on a test drive!
Take a shot every time JRGo says "Gotcha".
I am an emergency vehicle technician, work on firetrucks daily. I much prefer the old ones.
The new ones are all computers and modules.
I work for a Pierce dealer.
I love the old school trucks built alot better with real steel
That was bothe interesting, and informative.
JR, the price of that LED light package on that 2020 could buy a fleet of your firetrucks. LOL.
To be fair, there are some fire departments using trucks quite older than your mack.
Ok gotcha gotcha
Only in America does both old and modern trucks look like they were made in 1950
You know you don't need your own fire truck to be a volunteer fireman right? 😲
Derby has a long waiting list so if you have your own equipment it helps lol
Oh how I miss seeing this truck , and working side by side with it on a few fires with that dept who owned it….
Great stuff local fire department for showing us yr truck
I prefer the Mack over the Pierce. Much more of a classic kind of guy. And before anyone says anything,I don't want to hear people say but it violates NFPA, I honestly don't care.
DAMN RIGHT!!!!
They should’ve lifted the cab and showed the engine too
Super cool comparison of both trucks, technology has definitely came a long way‼️💯#NoCap
🧢
You definately gotta pay homage to that antique truck and put a V12 in yours
What a beautiful fire truck
Gotcha!!!
This was a treat! Thanks man!
"Gotcha"
This is awesome, love the fire truck content. Glad you finally got one, best way to utilize that giant warehouse. I have an 1962 international pumper engine from my local Department. They were going to sell it to someone not local when they retired it about 10 years ago. My Dad, being on the department himself decided to buy it and use it as a parade/show truck. Was very sentimental as both my grandfathers had driven the truck when it was in service. Mechanical Everything and double clutch transmission. Leaned to drive stick on it at 13. Had an 80's Mack Engine from Maine as well, but sold it to another fire truck enthusiast who was going to use it as a parade truck. Curious what your plans are for the truck?
Wow, @ 27 mins. Thinking the firetruck should have flames painted on it. Great giving kids rides
u should put a nice stereo system in the fire truck that way u have music to listein to when ur driving the fire truck
The new trucks are high tech but they'll never beat the Mack for cool factor.
Our town had a 47 open cab with the guys riding on back as a 6 yr old watching this rig scream down the street with guys hanging on for dear life was epic
