I've got the same model, bought it new 30 years ago still going strong. The safety clutch on these is great feature, not seen on many new drills, saves breaking the drill bit if it jams, or throwing you off a ladder. I'll never sell it...
Thanks for your efforts to put this out. It’s a fantastic drill. I have one for over 30 years and managed to restore it thanks to your very clear and complete video.
My father gives me his drill, the same one, 10 years ago, he had it for 30+ years... And for the fist time the drill refuse to work... And it just an open wire in the main alimentation cable... Everything inside is PERFECT! 30 yo and the bearing and motor is in a very good shape! They know how to make stuff!
Never let go of that drill. I bought a brand new Milwakee drill and killed in 1 hour of use. Inspired me to resurrect the old Metabo drill from 35 years ago. Still works.
They just dont make them like they used to. I cant believe how good old tools are, luckily I was able to use this drill and also few other 20+ year old tools and I was amazed, the difference in quality vs todays tools is day and night
Awesome video! My dad bought the same drill ~30yrs ago and its still in mint condition. And that drill is so powerful that it literally cut my big brother's finger and he lost it. Luckily he lost "only" about 3cm of that finger :D
Pozdro ;)
Ja właśnie odrestaurowałem odkurzacz Gisowatt Niagara. Boje się, że mi wciągnie dywan. Ma ze 30 lat. Z czego 15 używany był bez worka i filtra ;-) Uwierzycie?
Made in Poland Do odkurzania domu.
People just don't take care of things but I suppose that's good for us. Get good stuff cheap and fix up to really work. Metabo makes really tough stuff. Good job!
5:09 What do you use for cleaning tho whole thing up, brake cleaner? I have a gear set that I can't get out, it's an old Black and Decker, can I e-mail you?
i know its not the best restoration in the world, but it was a great restoration & if i were you, i would've taken more time to restore it completely, but you did a great job keep it up brother👍
Magnificent job - great german tech - that will last 100years - over here in aussie we get the choice between asian crap or 1000 dollar festo - it is such a pity all the manufacturing is lost from europe - Aust and USA. very good of you to rescue a really nice tool.
Consumer powertools are definitally pieces of crapp these days. You should go for the professional series used by construction workers, but even these have a lower lifespan than powertools made decades ago. Purly a choice of manufacturers to reduce costs and sell more in the same time.
Gez 13 This type of drill is still for sale in Europe and almost unaltered. I have almost exactly the same but mine is 12 years old. These things are virtually bomb proof.
Gez 13 You want the European topbrand: Fein. You want US topbrand: Milwaukee. You want Japanese topbrand: Hitachi. You want an affordable Eu. top brand: Metabo. For US: DeWalt. Japanese : Makita
I could have used this video about 30 years ago. I bought that same drill when Home Depot first started carrying Metabo tools. Burned it up surprisingly quickly. Only a couple months. Never bought another Metabo tool again. Always stuck with Milwaukee or Dewalt.
just skipped though video quickly since there was no audio, whats with the field windings? did i miss something or is this on old design or different technology i seen them only on one side with a U shape laminated iron piece, im used to the ones that are a full circle usually with 2 distinct winding sets 180 degrees apart any pros cons to how this drill did it vs new ones
I have 2 of those, one Sb Edv1000 and another is 700, which looks almost brand new. Will try to restore the 1000 according to your video. Thanks!) Which lubricant is best for those drills? Made in West Germany))
I have a metabo drill looks a lot like that but it has the reverse on the brushes and you move the brushes to 2 different positions to change rotation, the variable speed trigger was U/S so I ordered a new replacement and fitted it and it ran correctly for 5 minutes and then died again, only worked on full speed, so I bought a cheap Chinese replacement variable speed trigger for $7 delivered and it has been running for 2 years now and I still have a second spare 1.
I have a spare drill chuck exactly like that! I'm planning to take it apart entirely and clean it out from the inside because it struggles to reaches the end of travel.
I have a Bosch drill very similar to this one, but i can't get the damn chuck off the shaft even though it's only threaded on according to the technical drawing :(

That's a really well made drill. Worth restoring - you literally can't buy a new drill which is as good. Well done. 👍
Nice work. I love the irony of RUclips showing me ads for buying a new metabo drill when I'm clearly interested in the restoration of an existing one.
Gut gemacht Darek!
amazing to see how much better drills are today vs in the past. planetary gearboxes are great, and motor design has come a long way.
Best drill I have worked with ever!
Have the sameone, bought broken, and rewinded the rotor . This is a BIG MACHINE ! Will last a lot longer than any new machine !
I found a drill of this type at a scrapyard. This video greatly helped me restoring it. Thank you!
i still have the exact same drill used it yesterday metabo has some high quality tools to offer
Never let go of that drill. I bought a brand new Milwakee drill and killed in 1 hour of use. Inspired me to resurrect the old Metabo drill from 35 years ago. Still works.
Thanks for the video. I used it to assembly a Metabo Driller successfully.
A very well-made video and the editing is excellent. I didn't even find the music annoying so that's a good point as well. I like what you do.
Damn dude you made that thing look brand new. Great job!
They just dont make them like they used to.
I cant believe how good old tools are, luckily I was able to use this drill and also few other 20+ year old tools and I was amazed, the difference in quality vs todays tools is day and night
I'm amazed you were able to get all those wires connected correctly again!
It just looks like that. The connection is very simple :)
Awesome video! My dad bought the same drill ~30yrs ago and its still in mint condition. And that drill is so powerful that it literally cut my big brother's finger and he lost it. Luckily he lost "only" about 3cm of that finger :D
ohhh I'm sorry about your brother ;/
With these drillers you really have to be careful, some time ago the AEG drill almost broke my fingers: D

O kurde!
Old Metabo are very strong, eternal!
People just don't take care of things but I suppose that's good for us. Get good stuff cheap and fix up to really work. Metabo makes really tough stuff. Good job!

Perfect work!
Ave would be proud of you.
9:17 the drill was so happy and excited, his little rocket came shooting out.
Full metal gear box, you not gonna see that in new, even "professional" mashines. Great job.

I have the same drill and I love it
Very nice!!!

What grease do you use for the gears?
saved from the landfill! Good for a second Life and you can keep your money in your pocket. Nice work!
Thanks!
Not to mention it is likely going to last longer than a new drill bought today
Fascinating. Very clever. You've done that before!
Wicked man. Cool beats too!
Awesome jon
This drill was certainly beyond its time. Lights to indicate turn direction?!!
Yes they indicate turn direction :)
Nice video.
Who makes the grease applicator.
Really impressive Job ! Well done ! +1 sub
What kind of solvent and grease did you use?
This looks like a Real drill not like todays drills that look like kids toys.
