Repair and Refresh 29 Year Old METABO Drill

  • Hi. My name is Darek and in this video I'll show you how I Repair and Refresh the 30 Year Old METABO Drill.
The drill Metabo Sb Edv1000-2-S has a power of 1010 watts, two gears, the stroke and electronic power control system and the speed.
This means that, under the load, it adds itself to the power to keep the set rotations.
The repair wasn't so simple as I expected after the first start.
Had to connect a new wire, clean the switch contacts, replace the gearbox lubricant, unlock the chuck, clean the whole and ready.
The tool is very powerful and made from very high quality materials. If you want to buy a really good and chip drill search for old tools and bring them to good condition.
If you liked this video, click thumbs up and share it with your friends:)

I've got the same model, bought it new 30 years ago still going strong. The safety clutch on these is great feature, not seen on many new drills, saves breaking the drill bit if it jams, or throwing you off a ladder. I'll never sell it...

Nice work. I love the irony of RUclips showing me ads for buying a new metabo drill when I'm clearly interested in the restoration of an existing one.

I agree. The engineering was such that you can fix it and it will last another 30 years. Todays Chinese crap is just that. CRAP.
I refurbish the old Kenwood Chefs. (made in England) 50 to 60 years old)
      Will last another 50 years.

And it just an open wire in the main alimentation cable...
Everything inside is PERFECT! 30 yo and the bearing and motor is in a very good shape!

Magnificent job - great german tech - that will last 100years - over here in aussie we get the choice between asian crap or 1000 dollar festo - it is such a pity all the manufacturing is lost from europe - Aust and USA. very good of you to rescue a really nice tool.

Consumer powertools are definitally pieces of crapp these days. You should go for the professional series used by construction workers, but even these have a lower lifespan than powertools made decades ago. Purly a choice of manufacturers to reduce costs and sell more in the same time.

The quality of Metabo and AEG hammer drills from the late 1970 until 1990s is unattained. I have an AEG from 1980 who's motor is even labeled "S1" - fit for permanent operation. Never seen this with more modern machines. It is rated 600 W and weighs 3.5 kg. All loaded bearing are kept in a metal housing with almost zero play. Even 10 mm holes in steel come out perfectly round.

Y didn't test it by hand twisting slow and looking on each of 3 jaws , how they behave ....

I have a metabo drill looks a lot like that but it has the reverse on the brushes and you move the brushes to 2 different positions to change rotation, the variable speed trigger was U/S so I ordered a new replacement and fitted it and it ran correctly for 5 minutes and then died again, only worked on full speed, so I bought a cheap Chinese replacement variable speed trigger for $7 delivered and it has been running for 2 years now and I still have a second spare 1.
