    I always cringe when i see what used to be good tools on flee markets, and the only thing you can see is rust and the smell of burned plastic.

    The older drills are certainly of a better quality than the new ones, I used an AEG just like that when I was in a workshop 20 years ago and it's still going. My drill now at home is a makita 7.2v that's about 30 years old, it's only for small jobs, but quicker than using a screw driver or hand drill, and it is my favourite, I prefer it to all of my other 12, 18, 24v cordless.

    • @BrassLock
      @BrassLock 7 лет назад

      +MotörHeavyRockHead : Is your favourite Makita still using the original batteries?

    • @TheAussieStig30
      @TheAussieStig30 7 лет назад

      dav snow up until last week yeah it had been. Then it just died. I'm yet to pull it down because it has internal batteries, and I'm not totally convinced the battery is the issue. I bought a 9.6v makita that is older, but it takes a removable battery so that will be the house drill.

    • @BrassLock
      @BrassLock 7 лет назад

      +MotörHeavyRockHead : Oh Boy, I sure wish I had batteries like that in my 2 yr old cordless. They're almost useless already, but everything else about the drill is fine. I will have to learn spot welding & rebuild the batteries.

    • @TheAussieStig30
      @TheAussieStig30 7 лет назад

      dav snow I actually had a new 18v cordless before I got the makita, 2 of them, actually because they were on special for about $25. The first one literally caught on fire in my hand, I was drilling into .5mm aluminium with a 5mm bit and it locked up and burst into flames. I quickly whipped the battery off and took a photo and sent it to the companies QC manager (that I had emailed the week before in regards to another issue) and went to use the other drill, which was DOA. Took them back, got a refund, bought the makita for $40.

      I have a AEG SB2E-651 and it looks almost identical to this SB2E-20.
      Only difference I see is there is less electronic components in mine, no IC.
      Was not sure if the date should be read 08 (2008) or 80 (1980), but I suppose it must be 1980.

      The newer 18V cordless drills have more power than that old AEG.

    • @MissouriOldTimer
      @MissouriOldTimer 7 лет назад +2

      maybe so but I have a 1/2 makita corded that about broke my wrist when the bit got caught and even after I let go of the trigger it took a while to wind down and my wrist was caught in the cord, I have 3 or 4 cordless ones and none have that much power. .

    • @Pro1er
      @Pro1er 7 лет назад +2

      What I said was the newer cordless drills have more power than that AEG, not your Makita. I have about a dozen cordless drills and almost as many corded ones. The new drills have so much torque that UL won't even certify them unless they are supplied with a handle to prevent you from injuring or breaking your wrist. You can also get cordless drills with a three speed gearbox for even more torque.

    • @smellysam
      @smellysam 7 лет назад +2

      Same issue with my 8 year old "small" Hitachi corded. It goes from slow to "was that bones snapping?" In one step, I don't think modern battery tools have more applicable torque, but they deliver it in a much more useable manner

  • @AdaptingCamera
    @AdaptingCamera 6 лет назад

    I have a similar, 30 year old (not the same model) but it is not in that bad shape. Anyway, nice work but what I don't understand is why didn't you remove the chuck when you cleaned it? That way you'd really bring it back to almost new condition.

  • @boblewis5558
    @boblewis5558 7 лет назад

    Once again NICE job! I'm going to see if I get some time to do a video of a chuck cleanup for you to watch. My method will save you much elbow grease and requires no wire brushing or sanding and can restore a drill chuck from the state yours was to practically pristine. It also does not involve electrolysis which is another way to do the same, works VERY well but requires hardware. mine requires a jam jar! :)

    • @BrassLock
      @BrassLock 7 лет назад

      +Bob Lewis : Is the jam jar full of vinegar?

    • @boblewis5558
      @boblewis5558 7 лет назад

      dav snow actually no! Vinegar CAN work but it takes weeks and weeks to do what mine does. I use it to clean up bolts that have become SO corroded, that when they're cleaned you can see where the metal has been eaten away by rust but there's fresh grey steel underneath! May take a couple of days to get stuff nice and clean, but effortless all the same. 😎

    • @BrassLock
      @BrassLock 7 лет назад

      Bob Lewis : Bob, your "teaser" is too tantalising, and I am mystified as to what majical concoction goes into your secret brew.
      You'll have to drop EVERYTHING (except the jam jar), and make your instructional video, now that you've got Made In Poland's 🌐world-wide🌐 audience's attention.

    In the old communist countries you can still find people who know how to repair things. Here they wanted $100 to replace a damaged cord on my Hitachi! A new one costs 180. But, nervously, I replaced it myself. Works fine but that's why I'm fascinated by these videos. Also, very relaxing to watch someone who knows what they are doing.

      Each letter means the maximum speed.
      I do not know the exact data, but let's say that
      A - maximum 150 rpm/1Gear 300rpm/2Gear
      B - maximum 300 rpm/1Gear 600rpm/2Gear
      and so on.
      Thanks to the electronics placed in the drill, the torque is still uniform independently from rpm.
