- A day in the life of a doctor involves more studying than you would expect - while working in the hospital, studying at home and even with friends. Join me as I prepare for a big exam this weekend!
Being a resident is like having two jobs: working long hours in the hospital + studying on your off time. It can be a real challenge at times...
Wish me luck on this exam!!
Thanks for watching guys!

You should do a collab with Dr. Mike and talk about the differences between the us and canada health care
Janika Kokko omg yes anything with dr mike hahah🤣🤣
Yyyyyyyyyuaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssss
that's a really cool idea - thanks for the suggestion Janika!
I was thinking the same thing!!!!
Yeah this would actually be great
wow, I have no idea how my mom was a single mother took care of three children and did residency....
all i can say is... wow.... your mom sounds incredible to be able to do that!
Adaeze Njoku WOW, she seems like an amazing lady!
Don't we all know that mothers are superhuman! We owe a lot to them
My dad was tragically killed in an accident 3 weeks ago. I’ve been watching your old vlogs to help keep my mind off of things. Thank you so much for continuing to film even though you are so busy all the time. It really means so much to so many people. 💙
Bailey Patton 💙💙💙
aw Bailey i'm so incredibly sorry for your loss... I cannot even imagine what you are going through right now. My thoughts are with you and your family! 💙💙
Sorry for your loss 💕
Bailey I’m incredibly sorry for your dads passing. My condolences go out to you and your family. God bless ♥️
Violin MD thank you so much!! It was completely unexpected so it’s been very tough to deal with. He was only 55 so he was way too young. 💔 Fortunately, he passed away immediately and did not suffer.
You are the type of person I love seeing going into the medical field. I've seen drs who just don't seem to care anymore and it makes it harder to seek help for things. I love your videos. I'm sure you will do fantastic on your exams! Good luck!!
Thanks Sharon!
Love this video! Would love to see some vlogs of you having freetime. Idk if you get much freetime but it would be awesome to see how a very busy person spends time relaxing/enjoying hobbies etc. Much love from Texas ☺✌❤
ooooh good point.. i do get some i promise... i just haven't thought about vlogging it to be honest! thanks for the suggestion
Hi Siobhan, I’m an RN in Australia and I absolutely love your videos! They often answer a million questions I have at work! Thank you for explaining things so clearly and in such a lovely way. All the best with your studies! Have subscribed!
Can you do more life in the day as a doctor please
oh, girl, you are absolutely gorgeous! your videos are always so informative and interesting and all your hard work definitely shows and pays off on the short & long term! keep going & spreading inspiration all around, thanks for finding the time to make these, best of luck in your studying! ❤ x
Sounds like when I was in nursing school! Sounds like you’ve got this in the bag. Best of luck. You’ll do great!
Was so nice to give us some insight on resident life outside the hospital! Very motivating!
Hey Siobhan! I love your channel. I am not a med student, but I feel like I am. I'm in a radiology tech program, and just got back from the hospital (11pm). I hear you about spending so much time in the hospital and people forget you still are expected to be a full time student. I'm in bed winding down and watching your videos which totally fascinate me. It gives me hope that this is really where I am meant to be when just after getting off a shift at my own hospital, I come home and watch videos about YOUR days at your hospitals! You will make a fantastic internal medicine doctor. Do you have a specialty in mind?
I LOVE your videos. They are so wholesome and wonderful. I have an anxiety disorder and love watching your videos because they feel so safe!
I feel like a zombie after a day in the hospital without even having all the responsibilities of a resident 😂
Oh, I recognize her from your hospital vlogs.
Enjoyed the video, good luck with your exam. Sure you'll be glad when that is done. The fish looked delicious.
You’re so inspiring. My only goal is to become a doctor but I had a bad start to life and have lost hope lately. I’ll graduate from my biomedicine degree at age 25, and depending on my results/how fast I get in, I’ll probably be 30 when I start medicine. Feel like a failure but hopefully I’ll get there in the end
Lara, don't worry about age... that's not important! People put a lot of pressure on themselves, it doesn't matter how old you are when you get that degree, even if you don't get it, when you gave it your best shot that's all that counts... I'm almost 40 years old, and I'm still not done studying.. I think in the future a lot of people will study, work, and have a family at the same time.
Lara J You are not a failure! We all run on our own time. Besides, when you become a doctor, people are going to care that you are certified waaaay more than they'll care about when you graduated! There's no strict timeline on these things, you'll get there when it's your time!
You're not a failure, don't even say that about yourself! You are so strong for going for your dreams despite difficulties in life.
You can do it
Love you channel so much!!! I’m only in high school, but it’s great to look ahead!
Andrew Rheam same! What year r u in?
Same here, I’m a junior!
I’m in yr 8
Same here im in year 9
whodafuckisyou? ? Haha ur channel name tho 😂😂😂
I'm a new subscriber and I just finished binge watching your old videos, they're all so fascinating and really informative. Good luck on your exams
Omg you watch the flash and this is us too!! you are my fave doctor youtuber
When I had to do simulations for work, we would always end up laughing till we cried . Could never take ourselves seriously. Oh my manager got so mad and was always like "are you gonna be laughing during a real situation?" But we couldn't help it 😂
Can u do an MCAT exam experience video please
Uday Singh also how you study and the material you used .
She didn’t take it she has another video on it
Great video as always! My most recent vlog is about a day in pediatric surgery, I think you would enjoy it - especially that it's so different from internal medicine. Also really enjoyed working with Heather during my medicine rotation, nice to see her in your video!
Pediatric surgery? Would you care to answer the same same challenge I presented to Siobhan.
This is a true life medical case from July 1972. Warning, there may be irrelevant information in this write up, put there to distract you. Then again, maybe all the information is relevant. You're the doctor, you decide.
*An 18 month old baby boy is brought into the ER by his parents. The parents say the child fell from about 15 cm onto a carpet. X-ray shows the child has suffered a complete fracture of the right tibia. There are no other injuries or other signs of abuse. Both parents have come in with the child and neither show signs of spousal abuse and there is no history of domestic violence.
At the child's 6 months check up (performed only 2 weeks earlier) the child seemed normal aside from his right leg that was still slightly bowed ans slightly shorter than the left.
The child also has several brownish birth marks.*
Should you call CPS? Do you believe the parents are telling the truth? Can you discover why this child's leg is broken so badly? Is it even possible for a baby to have suffered such an injury?
Eric Taylor Siobhan
Hi Donavan! cool I'll check it out!
Nope. I have more details on this case (the baby is me) so you can ask me questions. If I know the answer.
JoanXJojo,
Thank you. Is she gave you a heart, I'll assume it's correct.
I was just about to sit down and study!! I’m a junior and high school and your videos make me want to pursue medicine even more!
good luck with your studying Aisha!
Best wishes on your exam! You are a great young lady and will be a fabulous internist!💗🎃
Love your videos. I wish I would have watched this study one earlier! I just finished my RN, and am preparing for the NCLEX here in Florida. Your drive and passion for patients and teaching is infectious. Plus, your violin skills are unreal!! Keep it up. You’ll do great things.
Yaaay a new video 😍 You're such an Inspiration for me! Btw. I'm going to start med school next year 😊♥️
Do you have standardized patient actors on which you are tested OR do you have to evaluate live patients in front of evaluating physicians.
Thank you!!!
Hi Siobhan, love your videos. I just wondered if you could do a video on rheumatoid arthritis. I've had it for years and I'm on lots of different medications but my pain is getting worse. I'm trying to get as much information and advice from as many doctors as I can so I can decide what to do next. I would really appreciate your help or advice. Thanks again. Lucie
You will do great on your exams! You're a dang good doctor already. Keep up your hard work!
Hi Siobon. Can you do a video on shadowing medical assistants? Btw I love your videos ❤️
Thank you for your vidios you give us a postive energy
Love this!! How are you?? Don't stress yourself out. How do you think you did/will do on your test?
On a different fact, I got my violin, first lesson on Tuesday. Super excited.
Love you, keep drinking all the tea. (I've been up for two hours. Already had 2 cups 😆)
From one medical youtuber to another - Thank you. Keep up the amazing work.
Good luck on your exam you got this!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😁😁😁
Thanks Arianna!
Violin MD Of course!!! Would you mind letting me know how it goes? I’ll be thinking of you regardless ❤️
God you giving me a hope and be The way I'm first year medical student
You’ll do great!!!
good luck in your exam!! 💛💛💛
Omg I got the croup one!!! 😂😂 yaass!!!
haha NICE!
Good luck on your exam.
Thanks Molly!
Even though I’m not in the medical field nor am I pursuing a career in medicine, I just absolutely love watching your videos because your lively spirit is so awesome and inspires me to get excited about the challenges and unique obstacles in my own life. So, thank you for being you and sharing this part of your life with us :)
You are a true Doctor. 💪💪💪💪💪💪
I love watching your videos! For work i schedule appointments for 142 doctors so it’s cool to see your day to day routine
oh wow that's an incredible amount of scheduling!! that must be so busy!
Insanely busy!😅
It's really tough balancing the two. I'm the equivalent of a resident in psychiatry in the UK and it's a big ask to be studying for postgrad and royal college exams on the back of the number of on calls and nights we do. I spend my life fueled on caffeine and this is a big reason why :P
Good luck with your exam!
Thanks James!
how do you get comfortable with doing simulations? like acting out scenarios in front of instructors etc. i get practice, but i just always feel uncomfortable. anyways good luck! you're very inspiring and entertaining.
I watched a flight attendant school series here on RUclips and sometimes you really see that it's difficult to be serious when it's "just" training/exam.
It’s always a little uncomfortable/strange when you know it’s not real, but for these types of exams I always just try to pretend it’s a real patient when I get in there... seems to help :)
Yes it definitely can be a bit strange going through simulations. I do my best to just dive into it and really act as I would with a patient. The actors in the exam were really excellent so that definitely helped!
I’ve been so interested in your videos, very educational! you’re so positive and keep going even tho there are times it seems tough. Btw: you’re very pretty! ☺️
Second comment!!! Never been so early, I love you so much Siobion ( sorry if I spelled your name wrong) you made me want to be a doctor and I’m glad that I found you.
It's spelled Siobhan. I know, irish isn't the easiest...
hahah spelling was SO close!! haha - so glad to hear you are enjoying the videos, thanks for letting me know that they have had such an impact!
Good luck with the exam! You’re amazing!
So helpful omg thank you💘💕
We have simulation exams in nursing school, it's so hard to stay relaxed knowing the assessor is there.
Love your videos Siobhan! I subcribed to you when you had around 18000 subcribers! Can't believe how much you've grown over the few months! Good luck for the exam, you'll smash it!! 💛
aw thanks Katie! great to meet you :)
Going back and watching a lot of your videos! I wish more careers had the mindset of being "lifelong learners." I'm a High School Language Arts teacher, and to keep my license I HAVE to prove that I am constantly working to improve my practice. I couldn't imagine otherwise!
i have all knowledge behide my head, but it is hard to get a job in Australia as an overseas Dr even if you passed all the exam . because hospitals need someone has experience but they DO NOT a chance to you to get experience🤔
I feel like you're going to ACE this exam! Good luck!!!
Very cool and informative video!!! Good luck on your exam Sioban. Keep the videos coming, they are awesome !
Thanks Sergio - oh definitely!
Great Vid! How you fit 28 hrs in a 24 hr day is beyond me. :)
How do you stay so positive in life you're such an inspiration I wish more people would like you
you seem like such a nice person so positive and easy-going I wish you the best!
Is there a requirement to have a gurney per a certain amount of distance?
Is Heather really just Sarah Silverman deciding to becoming a doctor lol.
LOL watching your video about studying as a break from my study day :) Good luck with your big exam!!
haha you just can't get away from studying!! thanks Nikki!
Lovely as always. Can you do a video on the what you saw on the exam. It is ok to be nervous about dealing with kids there not that easy. My mom for example is a nurse RN and in nursing school you do all these rotations and one of the last ones was pediatrics. And for what ever reason my mom got special treatment and she was escorted in the NICU at that hospital and she was made to hold a 4 day old baby boy detoxing from Buprenorphine and it was screaming for 4 hours straight. It broke my moms heart to see that. When my mom came home she was almost in tears.
hi Lilla! unfortunately we sign confidentiality agreements so i can't talk about what i saw... but i know how much you love peds... wish i could share it with you!! aw sounds like your mom played an important role in that poor baby's detox process... so sad
Good look on your exams girl I have exams soon aswell💓💓
Yesterday a friend from church was supposed to come over to fix the metal roof on my well house, which is 8ft high. It was very windy, so nope...not safe to climb a ladder. How funny I then watch a video where you pretend to examine someone who fell of a ladder while fixing a roof.
I wish you the best dear.I can smile when I am watching your videos❤ it's been my dream to become a doctor since I remember. I'm going to endure all the hardships to get to my dreams. I want to immigrare to England to study medicine .All difficulties and problems are sweet for me during this way.thanks for this nice video dear❤😘
DOES YOUR MEDICAL BRAIN NOT TURN OFF WHEN YOUR WATCHING THE FLASH?????? like, all the injuries they show and your like wtf they need a spinal tap they need stiches head surgery etc
I love how when you talk, you can really see how much you really care about the things you talk about ❤️
miss ya 😍
Have you worked with sonographers yet? I'm in school for sonography, I graduate in May.
This is such a beautiful video... so many positive vibes and professional development and learning. And cooking a good meal with a friend. Such positive and happy vibes. I wish I was like this in my 20s and 30s
If you’re a PGY2 isn’t that a junior resident? Or do I have like everything wrong...
I always get excited when I see you posted !!
Siobhan I love your videos. I think I’ve watched them all. But I just have to say your clips of you going down the stairs gives me anxiety. Lol. I always feel like I’m going to misstep and fall 🤷♀️. Have you ever fallen down the stairs??
Your channel has motivated me to start back up documenting my nursing journey. For some reason I attach myself to my content too much and I feel as if the content isn't good enough for posting.
Hi Siobhan, could you explain a little how pagers work? How and where you get your pagers from. My friend recently got a switchboard job where she has to page and look at the MANY doctor schedules, paging the correct person in less than 30 seconds. Would be interesting to see the other side!
Can you do some meal prep/meal cooking?? Good luck on your exam. The reason why I'm no longer in school is I don't do well on tests, except maybe for English.
You inspire me to work hard and love health even more. I had learn so much from you. Hope you can share with us on Hepatitis and HIV virus. It’s depend on you. Thank you so much for teaching us and shared your experience with us. I hope I could see you one day or you could set a day off for meeting with fans. Thx again
I should tell you the name badge on your stethoscope is on upside down.
I really admire you. You seem like the type of person anyone would be lucky to have in their lives. I wish I had your motivation and strength. God bless you and I’m sure you will change so many lives as a doctor. I wish you were my doctor!!
Oh peads!! I was there for 14yrs now!! Every monday after school i head to the hospital for treatments and bloods!! Witch reminds me that i have a scan tomorrow morning to prep for my surgery next week!!
I'm in medical school but I'm curious if one were to fail an exam during residency what happens exactly?
Electrolyte is a big thing. When i was 21 i was drinking Monster Energy Drinks all the time and i had major low Potassium levels, and got admitted to the Er. Lesson learned... no more energy drinks
The Flash is also filmed in Canada! It's a Vancouver production.
how difficult does it become to asses patients who lie? like maybe they exaggerate pain, hide pain, lie about diet, smoking, etc..
How did you study for exams doing Anatomy & Physiology
My brother and nana watched flash already I’m in the middle of supergirl but my brother had to watch supergirl in the middle so it would make sense
I LOVE THE FLASH!! I HAVE A CRUSH ON BARRY?? WHAT ABOUT YOU??? WHO DO YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON THAT SHOW??
I am 13 and in 8th grade and ever since I was little I wanted to do something in the medical field and but sometimes I don't feel smart enough but your videos help me to feel motivated
P.S I want to do pediatrics
What specialty are you thinking of sticking with?
when a patient comes into the ER with very bad headaches what steps would you take? (like straight to imaging)
Throughout CRNA school we have these simulation checkoffs similar to what you described. It will be an observed situation where you walk into a random patient situation, make a decision on the anesthetic you'll perform and implement it. During the anesthetic, the robotic mannequin and anesthesia machine/monitors will start changing and you are observed on how fast you figure out what is happening to the patient and how to fix it. Very stressful, and oftentimes it will be the zebras of medicine they are assessing if you remember and can treat.
I feel so lazy and bad rn. Love your Videos though 😍😍🙏🙏
I bless the rain down in Africaaaa 🎵🎶
Could you do a video on Feltys syndrome? My mom was recently diagnosed.
Hi Sarah - yes I certainly have read about Felty's in textbooks, although i've never seen/met a patient with it. Hope your mom is doing well!
Violin MD I messaged you more about on Twitter and insta, she would be interested in filming a vid with you, I though it would be a cool video!
Hey I have a question and would love if you would put this in your video. But how do u deal with all the deaths that either u witness or are involved in? Btw luv your videos! ❤️
Please be a guest soloist for our band!! We would love to have you play with us!!
2:45 It's cool that you're a Second-Year-Medical-Resident, but how did you do your hair so
flawlessly? :O
This Is Us is one of my faves! Glad Season 2 came out on Netflix so I can binge the butts out of it!
Good luck with your BIG exam this weekend. I'm confident you will do AMAZING
I love these “Day in a Life” videos !
