  • 1-05-1993. A long video, but mind you, games from the era where they didn't have the permanent score/timestamp on the screen are hard to cap. You have to include a lot of context to keep it coherent, so anyone who watches all of this in one shot, you have my love and respect! I LOVE YOU, MAN! This Laker team was a mix of very old and young. As such, they had trouble getting up for every game. They won 5 of 7 games vs the Blazers/Bulls, who were the prior year's Finals participants and blew one of those losses in last secs to Porty to boot. Otoh, they lost to the 11-71 Mavs, poor Kings, TWolves, etc. Couldn't get it up every night and were slooow and plodding at best (Buddha Edwards their backup C, for ex).
The one virtue they had as a group with highly experienced players is that they were very careful with the ball, which helped them to stay close to a team like the Bulls. They barely scraped into the playoffs with 39 wins and came within an eyelash of eliminating the 93 Suns, who went to the Finals. They got cheated at the end of Gm 5 for extra measure. They had that game wrapped before the refs gifted PHX a lifesaving incorrect call. I remember being miserable for a few days after that loss. Don't get me started. Big Joe McDonnell (The Big Nasty), LA drivetime sports radio host and Jerry West's go-to for spreading info used to fume about that game as well. Remember listening to him go off about it a decade later. RIP Joe.

This is awesome. So much to this game and season for the Lakers. Great game by rookie Peeler, Threatt. Worthy had some moments and Vlade with the game-sealer. Sam Perkins still on the team before the trade to Seattle.

Out of curiosity, how old are you, brotha? Where do you watch these? At home? Work? What's your story, dude? How long you been a fan?

@ 16:41 "Green pushed him a mile" Love it! I love the brutal honesty from the Lakers' announcers and the fact that they are not your typical "home team" announcers. Hilarious.

I loved Perk, he always had a Bob Marley type of chill vibe to him. It's kind of still puzzling to this day why they shipped him out. They got Benoit Benjamin and Doug Christie but Christie never moved up in his time there but became eventually a very serviceable player. They turned Benoit into Sam Bowie which was fun having him in '95 and part of that Cinderella squad. At the time they signed Perk, that was considered a ridiculous fortune to throw at an at best starting player the would be a more a superstar salary. Maybe they were already seeing the rebuild way ahead of time and they knew they weren't bringing back B Scott and Green maybe leaving too.

But it was two mistakes, and we beat them to sweep the season series, and overall won 4 out of 5 regular season games vs the same 91 Finals Bulls group, sweet revenge.

Question, didn’t you have the earlier game in LA when Mike hit for 56? Was that game taken down?

Lakers had alot of talent on that squad, what I remember well they didn't play very good defence, they didn't have a strong defender or enforcer time after time they would let someone drive the middle of the lane score Uncontested

Great game, thanks for sharing. Can you post the Lakers v Spurs game from that same year? I remember that game because the Lakers won it in San Antonio...

@Shahin Bahadori No it was from 1993. I remember it to this day as the channel 9 intro showed David Robinson arguing with the refs. I think the Lakers played the Spurs at home their next game and lost...

@Shahin Bahadori that's incorrect. I looked it up on basketball reference.com. The game in question was played Monday, March 15, 1993. Lakers beat Spurs in SA, 92-87.

@@kggresham Hi, Kevin. LA won both gms there that season, I have both. Nov and March. March 15 had Doug Christie in it, post-Perkins trade. That the one you want? I'll have to look thru the stacks, but I'm 100 that I have both. I know I do cus I remember Tarkanian was still coaching SA in Nov. Any special reason you'd like that game up? Did you go to it?

@Shahin Bahadori The Scott gm was 1989/90. I have a TNT recap of that one, but I did get the Chick gm after that, great one.

@Shahin Bahadori Thank you, Shahin. I truly appreciate that as I usually get people demanding that I upload full games. That's nice of you, that feels good. I hated those 93 Suns. They even won with that 35 footer by Majerle in the final reg season gm after LA came back from 20 points. I can still remember feeling so angry at that game that didn't even count and that was 26 years ago. I remember it distinctly.

This Lakers team had a very talented and deep front court. And Peeler and Threatt at G. Talented squad. Also 12:14 42% from 3 but todays agenda propagandist media like to say 3point shooting by bigs was non-existent back then.
