    This is so professional, very nice work.
    In my work I have learned one point that anyone building an engine should take note of, on some engines do take care of the amount of sealant used, sealant squeezes inside of the engine as well as outside, a simple wipe of the outside of a joint tidies it up but don't forget the inside will have the same. In the past I have seen sumps full of lumps of silicone sealant and cam oilways blocked.....not Porsche I am sure these guys are aware and it is not a problem for them, but anyone building a motor pls keep it in mind.

      911 logic ahhh porsche people... so stuck in their ways. Maybe that lump won't leak as bad with orange goo? Did that ever occur to you?

    • @jrgromerog
      @jrgromerog 5 лет назад +1

      911logic, that Orange Crap is not silicon, it is a special anaerobic sealer that the excess diluted with the oil.

    Well, nice film to show the kind of work they do. I am sure it was not the final assembly as I did not see any oiling during the crank, cam, cylinders to pistons etc. Also I hope there was not any bad scratch-mark done on the first piston when the ring tool was released... Any way the film time is way too short for real engine assembly as it should take much longer than this to just fit and measure tolerances of pins,to rods, ring gaps to cylinders etc detailing before final assembly. Good presentation and clean environment though. :)

    • @zxtenn
      @zxtenn 9 лет назад

      Yiannis Loukopoulos I noticed that too, I expected to see the piston rings well oiled and the cam with assembly lube, that is especially important during cam break-in for US modified engines as well as oil with ZINC for superior protection

  • @briggsquantum
    @briggsquantum 9 лет назад +1

    Maybe not so expert. When the two case halves are assembled the rods have to be on the crank. Unless I missed it, I didn't see the rods on that crank when it was lowered in. So they must have dismantled it and installed them and wasted some more sealer. Then started filming the pistons being installed…
    Anyhow on the few Porsche and VW air cooled engines I've done that's how I had to do it.
    Complex, over-rated, and EXTREMELY expensive engines to rebuild.

    • @captkilt
      @captkilt 9 лет назад +3

      Yes the rods should have been installed on the crankshaft prior to being laid in the case. As too the rest of your critique I must disagree respectfully.

    the flow of heat dictates oil in a vacuum environment. pressure is just the fluid travelling to bearings, the rest is thermal dynamics. if you notice, the exhaust pipe heat gets sucked backwards to the top.. even the very old subarus run like this.

    Doing a couple of these in the early 90's, Andial recommended and I used, Yamabond (Yamaha motorcycles) on the case. They used it in all the race motors they built (they would disassemble 962 motors from the factory and then go through them) so I did too. Also used the same grease used in industrial cooking ovens, to pack CV joints for racing.

    hello from Delaware USA at 9:00 i am curious due to the design of the fan shroud, do the forward most cylinders run hotter? i bet they do if you use a laser thermometer on them, but how much ? Just curious . Looks and sounds fantastic by the way .

    • @A-FrameWedge
      @A-FrameWedge Год назад

      The engine has a shroud over the fan metal and ducting that directs the air over all the cylinders to cool them, the fan is not jus blowing undirected air around.

    Careful control of oil should be equal all around the skirt... But gravity shows this to be wrong.. Just that little amount touch does create this flat spot...
    Newer , more precise cutting and pre grinding can eliminate this all together.. Down to the 1/10000 of a degree..
    Isn't it great to be alive during such changing times....

      captkilt Thanks Mate. Don't you remember the old VW Golf GTI commercials from here in the states? Back in the 80's to my memory. There was another bit where a bloke took a GTI for a spin around maybe the Nurburgring North-schleiffer circuit and said, "Aye She Vice Vakken", or something similar to what that sounds like in American English. I don't have a clue what that means, but I assume that the phrase means that the driver "enjoyed himself".
      By the way, I have a website that showcases great race car sound audio clips from events here in Northern California.
      Please visit www.theracingear.com and let me know if you have any feedback. Thanks again.

      No, but if a car sits for some time, the film of oil does find its way to the bottom of the cylinder, and at startup, you can get an initial puff of smoke, that goes away after a few revs.
