I always feel so horrible because it's not the child's fault, irresponsible parents feed their children horrible foods that reek havoc on them throughout their lives.
I agree-totally wreaks havoc on them. i am not perfect but I praise my parents for giving me fresh fruit and veggies(and the occasional treat) growing up. I love every vegetable to this day (except lima beans)
There are parents who care for their children. It’s because there are children who don’t listen to them like they hide when they eat something they can’t
don't be, we need obese kids and adults, otherwise many people (me included) will run out of business lol. thankfully it's always easier to be obese than be healthy.
Wow imagine being angry and disagreeing with the school for serving only healthy food. These parents don’t care about their children’s well being at all and it really shows.
@@sherchez3293 that woman is fine the way she looks. I know her daughter is overweight, but that’s no reason to bully her. You obviously don’t understand what it’s like to have an overweight child. I was one of those children. 10 years old and put on slim fast. I wish my mom had never done that.
@@josephabraham3286 You are absolutely right. I came from a lower income family as well, but let me tell ya my mom and dad didn’t let me eat a bunch of junk 24/7. They were like “Apple sauce, cheese, turkey bacon and water for you”😂 I think it’s up to the parents to make an effort. My parents have diabetes and they were determined to make sure we had a healthy start at least.
Bethany’s mum, though! Just … wow! “I don’t agree with healthy eating. Kids should be allowed to eat whatever they want!” 🤦♀️ Denial level: off the charts. Why did she take Bethany to the obesity doctor, or agree to this documentary? Must have been the dad’s influence. He seems to get it.
Bethany's mum is shocking! She said her child doesn't need eat healthy and she looks good the way she is . :o Can she hear herself!! Really annoys me xx
And her trying to excuse her bad parenting by saying "when you're big you look cuddly, you look well. And Bethany has got colour in her cheeks all the time". She's probably got colour in her cheeks due to an underlying health problem like high blood pressure. These parents need a good shake. It's child abuse.
This is what happens in groups of highly uneducated people. They just walk through life with not a clue about the next generation they are bringing up. The world will soon be overrun by fools
Same. I think the majority of kids did and if they didnt eat there was no dessert and you waited till the next mealtime as if you didn't eat a meal there was no snack if we were even allowed snacks. Lets face it we didn't die from missing a meal. Its upto parents to introduce lots of different foods and tastes. Surely the parents can see their children are gaining weight and there's enough help out there now to stop the weight gain but its better to access the help b4 too much weight gain.
I was an overweight child, but not an overweight adult. I can tell you harping on their weight does alot of psychological damage. If you want them to loose the weight then do it properly, don't buy clothes too small to humiliate them, don't embarrass them in front of others ect. Some of these kids need a firm hand and better parents.
My mom was raised on poor diet and exercise habits so once the doctor talked to her about my weight around 10 years old, she would meal prep for the weeks that I was with her with me but make sure that the meals were balanced after we went to a nutritionist and she would make sure that I was getting the exercise that I needed in a fun way, like dance videos that I really liked. At my dads house they were much more humiliating and degrading about my weight and would force feed me. Thank God I did have my mom or I probably still would be obese.
Agree. We did not have junk in the house but my brother was gaining. She limited his interaction in houses with junk food citing homework or a chore. She then started serving ALL of us our portions at dinner, so he would not feel singled out. She also served out seconds on request. She also signed him up for an activity. He is a normal weight adult.
Bethanys mom is insane. Lucas seems like a sweetheart. I’m glad Libby got to spend more time with her dad. That’s really sweet. She seems determined and quite positive.
Broke my heart when Libby was asked what she'd like to look like and she picked the one on the far left that was unhealthily skinny.. I hope this little girl grows up well and learns healthy habits
@super_random_stuff not really a shock. Filming a whole documentary about a childs weight is going to damage them. It's the parents that need a wake up call, not the kids shoved on the TV.
A parent saying they don't care what their child looks like, they're still gonna love them is rubbish. Childhood obesity will affect every aspect of their lives. Parents in this show, most just don't care enough to help their kids.
She even said that she likes that her child is bigger because she looks cuddly & healthy like that? O.o Wow she is setting her up to be in pore health growing up :( Even saying that kids should be able to eat whatever they want (chips etc) and she's AGAINST the school serving HEALTHY FOOD??? I'm.... what?...
He may be allergic to tomatoes though...so in his mind he may assume salads all contain tomatoes. My concern is that Libby will eat whatever and is picky at home.
LMAO cracked me up when Kelsey accidentally tattled on her mum hahaha -- saying to the cameraman, "but when you're not here filming, we just eat takeaway!" LOL!!!!
@@dirtyb0ngwater117 In a way, she is. There have been studies on rats where they're given a choice between sugar water, or cocaine, or heroin. . . And the vast majority choose sugar water. Food chemists literally DESIGN foods to be almost irresistible, with a "Bliss Point" and optimized texture and other unnatural features to bypass our prefrontal cortex and go straight to our amygdala to trigger us to eat more and more of it.
Also Lucas was doing so well on that treadmill until his Mum started with the negative stuff that made him panic "are you alright? Are you sure? Do you need your inhaler?" All while the researchers are actually encouraging and praising him.
That grandpa gave Lucas a plate of sausage-cheese and potato casserole that I would have a problem finishing off. Then he says Lucas doesn’t eat big portions. Yeah he does.. you give them to him
Yeah but if the other kids are eating that and not gaining weight, hes getting it from elsewhere. My six yr old cousin would eat a big plate of rice and curry and doesnt gain weight. He must be eating more things on top of that to gain that much weight
@@likeagenieinabottle1591 Really? I couldn't have finished it and I am quite a normal eater. Besides it was packed with saturated fats and carbs and had no veg in it.
I'm sorry but Libby is just a spoiled child, her mother says she has a big personality but I think she is a bit of a brat. If she doesn't want to eat normally then tell her if she won't eat what's put in front of her then she can wait until the next meal to eat, and the problem will soon be solved.
While I agree that cooking proper food, eat it or do without until the next meal, no snacking , no fuss is a logical tactic; I think it is important to be polite when talking about these children. They are after all just children, adults shouldn’t call children names.
@@kitchfacepalm im still classified as a child as im 17 and its just my opinion but i understand that you dont want me to call children names so i will refrain from doing it again :)
yeah :( I hope they mentioned to the parents (or sent a letter to the GP) to watch out for anorexia in the future. It's so difficult to get the balance with helping her to eat better because she clearly does need to loose weight and change her diet, but restricting too much and aiming for a very low weight is also dangerous.
Libby just didn’t want to try anything at her french penpals home . The effort the family made to accommodate her and her mother and that’s how she behaves ? Screaming at the pool, making a scene at the dinner table. The pen pal looked horrified lol
Then again she is a little child and it's not like her mum brought her into it y'know....the mum said she can't swim so there's a high chance she rarely/ possibly never takes Libby swimming so it's no surprise she's scared.....as for the food situation of course it was rude but she's still young and I highly doubt her mum has given her those foods before....you can kinda tell though cos Libby didn't even know we have green beans in England so she's obviously never been around them
I find it rude you never know what someone is going through so I make sure my kids know that if we at someone house they will eat whatever is given to them I was raised like that you eat it smile and say thank you might not like it but don’t say anything because that’s rude

@Adrianna Wonnacott she just got use to the water I always loved being in water if I was there I would had a bathing suit on and I would of held her if it was okay with her mom or at least hugged her and told her it was okay
Wow Bethany's mom is killing her daughter by overfeeding her. Kids that are big do not look well. They look like they're going to live a lifetime of health problems. She needs to get out of denial & start feeding that kid right. She's keeping her daughter unhealthy for very selfish reasons.
She wants the kid to eat whatever she wants and if she's bored or unhappy...when she's a bit older, it will be ok with mum when she wants to do drugs...because saying no and doing what is in the best interest of the child is too much of a hassle for the mum.
It's crazy how the adults think that the "psychological damage" from talking about the kids being obese is worse than the kids being obese?!?! It's NOT!!!
I would disagree. This show gave me so much psychological damage. I’m now nearly 22 but only was it 7 months ago I started to love myself. There was so much that was cut from this show, so much they didn’t show and so much they manipulated.
From one Bethany who grew up big and had comments like 'you wouldn't be you if you weren't big' to another. I pray to God she has her own epiphany- I've struggled my whole life, and now at 32 have various weight-related issues that could have been avoided with correct parenting/ not being given in to. This is breaking my heart--I literally see myself in little Bethany here...
"I tell her what to do, and she does it," I'm completely flabbergasted. I don't think my mouth would finish healing from the smack I would have received
Why do parents have cupboards full of crisps, biscuits and junk food, of course the kids are going to eat it! It's not about saying no all the time, it's about eating a varied and balanced diet, and only buying these occasionally! Grew up in France, with exactly the same type of diet they showed at the French campsite, and I just cannot understand why Brits eat like this... and no it's not genes, it's food quality and portion sizes.
not all of us eat like this & i think having snacky things is fine as long as your kids have self control. in my house, we have biscuits but we all have self control so it’s all good. i think these parents are just bad & give in too easily. also our portion sizes are normal (if you are a normal parent). when my mum is cooking, she tends to stick to the serving suggestion or just goes with what she feels like which i feel is good.
We dont have cupboards filled like this. Clearly the parents had issues with food that were never resolved. Even if we did have cupboards filled with junk food. The parent on onto give one snack per day. A disciplined child wouldn't just go through the cupboards at their ages.
That line made me furious for these children! The mother ranting on about believing it is healthy for her child to be big because her child looks cuddly and cheeks are pink but in the next clip that cuddly child says they have to sit and watch tv when they are not at school because their legs ache?! Tf?! Their legs ache at what five!!!?!! No five year old should be saying their legs ache after school like that!
Lucas and his family are quite sweet and caring- it’s more a case of education in their situation and it’s great to see the change in lifestyle. With Bethanys mum it seems like it’s almost a control thing - why would you complain about healthy eating. It’s sad that most of this is down to the lifestyle choices of the parents. Lots of processed food, enormous portions and minimal physical activity. Sadly a lot of it is down to parents attitudes and behaviour - they are replacing love, attention and effort with food and permissiveness for an easy life. I know it can be challenging BUT as a parent you have to take responsibility.
It’s easy to judge from the outside, but honestly, obese kids always seem to be “picky,” and the parents are so often obese themselves. Yeah, every kid is picky if he or she is allowed to be. It just seems so simple. As a parent, change your own ways, and from the time your baby starts on solids, don’t bring the bad foods into the house except as a very occasional treat. If it’s not there, the kids can’t eat it. Then they don’t have to be restricted. They can eat the treats when out with friends, but if they’re used to it not being in the house, they’ll accept that as normal without feeling deprived when they socialize. And start young with the healthy foods and a large variety. And let hunger fight the pickiness. If you won’t eat what’s put in front of you, there’s nothing else. When you’re hungry enough, you’ll eat it. Kids don’t need to be forced to eat. They just need to not be given options. I was a picky eater as a kid, but I wasn’t given options, and now I’m an adventurous eater. I’ll try just about anything, and fruit and veg are my favourite food group. And kids don’t have to be forced to exercise if you have ready access to outdoor space. You just to have to not buy them devices, so you can dole out screen time as an occasional treat as well. Kids really don’t know how to raise themselves. Parents have to parent. And it doesn’t have to be a giant fight and all about restriction. If the parent sets good habits early on, the kid will accept them as normal and develop good habits.
Nah, I was a very picky eater as a kid and i starved half of the time. Would pick up a toast an hour after lunch/dinner for the hunger. I was very thin as a kid... but l'm now an adventourous eater myself and i eat everything.
My brother is a picky eater he’s 6. At one point he was under weight, he literally does not like to eat things. The only things he’ll eat is pasta, cereal, and fries. My mom tries to get him to eat other things but he’ll just hide away.
My nephews and nieces had loads of access to TV etc. However they preferred playing outside because that meant they could play with friends. Kids are social from a small age and they prefer playing with friends rather than staring at a screen or tapping a console. You just make sure they don't have continuous access to junk food like the kids on this program all have.
Libby‘s weigh-in at the clinic really shocked me - 54.2 kg is almost 120 pounds. That‘s about what I weigh as a grown-up woman. I find these childhood obesity documentaries interesting, because I was always quite big as a child but grew out of it in puberty and never had weight problems since. However, I only weighed half of what Libby weighs at her age, and I was already quite chubby. This weight must put a huge strain on Libby‘s joints and bones. I don’t think her mum realises the extend of the problem.
"Sit and watch tv because my legs ache" .....this girl is how old?? That's how I used to feel after a 10 hour shift in retail stocking shelves...That's not right...
15:06 'shes got my genes' no...shes got about 3-4 ADULT sized servings of food in 1 plate. how can someone look at that plate and think its not to much food even for a adult let alone a small child
Yeah she’s not only incredibly overweight but also has a rotten attitude as well. I got second hand embarrassment from her meltdown in that tiny little pool.
This is my six year old grandson, only in reverse. He is tiny - the size of a four year old. His mom sends food from home if he goes anywhere. I can buy the exact same food he has at home, but he won’t eat it my house unless it’s prepackaged, like yogurt or snacks. No meat or veg in his diet. Upside.. his clothes fit him forever!!
Growing up overweight was brutal. I am 67 and still carry the scars from the hurtful things that were said to me. Even from my own parents and doctors!
Same. I rode horses when I was younger and was treated terribly by the instructors and other riders for being pudgy because although I rode beautifully, it wasn’t “aesthetic” looking. Sad how kids are treated
Imagine being so lazy that you send your seven year old to a personal trainer because you can’t be bothered to take her on a nice walk or go and play with her in the park.... Also, that dinner lady giving an obese child second and third portions?!? Take some initiative
I lived in France for 16 years. The children are brought up to eat at regular times at a table with their family. I have never seen French children being given an alternative to what is being offered, and seem quite accustomed to eating a variety of tastes. Meals are an occasion for the family, and fast food, so far as I can see, is not on the menu. I was amazed when I returned to the UK to see the variety of ready meals, so easy to stick something different in the microwave. So sad for those children.
I grew up in the 1950's and 60's where there were no takeaway fast food outlets like Pizza, fried chicken etc, and we ate what our parents cooked for us; there was hardly any obesity in schools (Some of us were underweight) and the only fast food I do remember was the fish and chip shop, which was allowed very occasionally. It seems that the way of life has changed with both parents working, and easy meals have become the norm.
@@eustacelongbottom9672 No, obesity hasn't "been around as long as human kind". Neanderthals and Denisovans and Cro-Magnons didn't get obese, that's something that came with civilization. There were obese ancient Egyptians, but it wasn't common. And although I wasn't alive back in the 60s, anyone can look up weight charts and see how obesity has been getting worse since about the last third of the previous century. Some humans do have a genetic propensity to obesity, but it's not an ancient human trait, and speaking as someone who used to be obese and is now a healthy BMI (where I've stayed for years) obesity usually isn't a healthy way to be.

"There's no excuse really, I just haven't had the time" So you love your kid, but aren't doing everything you can to save their life and keep them healthy? And giving the excuse that you 'don't have time' to even take a walk? The fact that she says that she has 'nothing to be sorry for' and walks off crying shows that she KNOWS what she is doing, or more accurately what she is NOT doing It's sad
Seriously it’s about changing your lifestyle- it’s not easy to change habits but if you aim to change one thing a month - a walk each day, replace one snack with fruit. It’s not a coincidence that the parents are usually obese as well. So much is simply habit - slowly reduce portion size, daily exercise, stop excessive snacking. People forget that health has a big impact on mood as well.
Bethany's mom is more focused on maintaining peace than ensuring that her daughter develops healthy eating habits by eating a balanced diet. She will look back on this day and wish she had been more responsible!
i ate dinner at the kitchen table with whichever parent was home while my siblings ate at the dining table. on weekends we'd all eat at the dining table. idk if thats weird
I am so shocked by this culture honestly...small things like allowing the kids to eat on the sofa instead of on a table or the acting picky while being hosted was unacceptable when I was young...
Eating on a table keeps the metabolism high but on a sofa or a bed is very bad because your body posture is related with digestion . Also any sweet drink is dangerous if aerated.
I was the opposite growing up, I was skinny but my female relatives around me had such an obsession with weight that negative views came down on to me and food and weight etc which actually spiralled a long term eating disorder that even caused hospital treatment in my teens. Now I'm a mother myself and try to enforce healthy eating but also a healthy mindset which is difficult as I struggle with it myself but I don't want my kids to suffer like I did nor go to the other extreme. I definitely think exercise and eating are important but also how weight is viewed is equally important.
We don't discuss weight in my home. We discuss the things available for consumption and whether or not that item constitutes actual food. We read labels. We ride bikes and play outside but that's actually a very small part of being metabolically healthy. What we do and don't put in our mouths largely determines that. We don't have discuss weight because it's not necessary when the focus is so heavily on identifying and choosing healthy foods.
I loved that she said, “I feel like going into the swimming pool n not coming out!!” Stated like a true swimmer! Keep it up. It’s a life long skill once you’ve got it, it can never be taken away fr you!! I feel that some areas of the world, that are close to bodies of water, or surrounded by water (lakes, coast lines, islands, etc.) Swimming should be a MANDATORY class for children/teens n adults. This should dramatically decrease the number of deaths d/t accidental drownings. Setting a precedence for survival: Swimming, First aide, CPR n survival training to children/teens besides just adults I’m a lifelong swimmer since the age of 4yo. My parents aren’t swimmers. I saved a little girl who was unsupervised and was pulled out with the tide @ a beach. She was about 7yo...I was 10yo. You only get one chance to live. Make it count!!
I agree. Personally my parents are from Estonia, lived in Sweden all my life. Swimming is mandatory in Sweden. I also told my children never swim if they are drunk. I have seen a drowning accident at a lake, a man. I will always remember what a dead man looks like.
I swim almost everyday and my mother in law gives my daughter swimming lessons while I swim on Fridays. Water skills and safety is so important. I live in NW Washington state,USA and I doubt swimming is mandatory at our schools, but it is in my house lol she’ll know how to swim before kindergarten 💙
I grew up obese and did loose a large amount of weight as I came to a mental and emotional consensus with myself and my dietary and exercise faults. I hope parents can teach their children about calories, carbs, cholesterol, sugar, just common sense dietary concerns that can avoid a health crisis further down the road.
you arnt allowed to mention common sense anymore coz its no longer common and 'its offensive to assume people have it'. thats what i was told by a tutor i talked to when we were talking about stuff in the workshop. he said they get told off if they told students to use their common sense. its a sad world we live in now days
Well no kids shouldn't know about nutrition in such a manner. I don't think any kid should know about calories carbs etc. They should have everything in moderation. And this starts from the parents. They should be educated on nutrition
14:11 Basically what she just said: "I want to help my child lose weight but I don't want to be one of those mothers that help their child lose weight" -_-
I grew up being told the same thing. Except my parents said I just had to try one bite. If I didn't like it didn't have to finish it, but I just had to try. Of course, I always loved vegetables so they didn't really have to fight me to eat healthy. My mom likely would have taken a different approach if I wouldn't eat anything healthy.

I used to live maybe 5 miles from the seaside, and every weekend if the weather was good, I'd get an icecream as a kid. Cornetto Classic. All I had to do was cycle the 5 miles to the ice cream shop by the beach with my parents, and of course the 5 miles back. I didn't really notice any exercise with these kids (and the portion sizes are HUGE!)
I grew up in the south east US where in our family other was drilled into us to "finish our plate". They're were times I'd actually throw up because I was forced to eat so much. It caused me to be obese. I finally dropped 80 pounds and still have 50 to go. I swore I never would do my kids that way. I never have. We encourage our kids to eat everything. My kids have always been in the middle of their growth charts. My daughter recently became in happy with her size. So, in our house we encourage serving sizes and healthy alternatives. In a year she's lost about 15 lbs. She also does all-star cheerleading and lifts girls in the air. These parents are sad. Lucas's mom is probably the only one who I think honestly wants help for her son. The others are lazy and in so much denial. I hope these kids honestly get help.
I'm so glad you are providing a healthy environments for your kids! It's awesome do hear about good parents nowadays. (Please do be careful tho kids can easily develop an over obsession with healthy/healthy alternatives & it can cause orthorexia, learned that from experience lol)
I have never restricted my children’s portions. We always have food to help ourselves to in the middle of the table. I have never piled their plates up and therefore never forced them to eat anything or finish anything. They did learn to not be greedy, because it is rude to pile your plate up with food you won’t then eat and they were taught that too. Children aren’t idiots, they learn what they see and sadly the children on this programme have been fantastic students of their parents diet, mental states, weaknesses, and activity levels.

Libby’s mom should give healthy options and she’ll eventually eat! What is shame that a child is so morbidly obese at such a young age. And it’s only gonna get worse.Bethany’s mother is clueless. Also, Libby’s mother is worried about her daughters heart condition and yet she lets lets her get up to 119 pounds at the age of seven! Child abuse.
Child abuse? I am a perfectly happy person now who has a great relationship with my mother. Please don’t through around these terms without any idea of what you are talking about.
Bethany seemed happy to enjoy the school meal. All the school dinners looked good. As the principal said, many years ago, children would spent after school and weekends playing outside etc. Now these days, they usually are on technology, video games etc Can the child minder give Libby's Mum the recipe for chicken curry perhaps
Libbys behavior is a fearful response. I think mom is accidentally pandering to her & making it worse. Shes validating her anxieties without meaning to. Keeping things relaxed, not watching her eat, saying this is whats for lunch, & then sitting back & just eating as if its normal-& then Not buying her a second meal!!-would be more effective. She needs her self-esteem nurtured that the world is safe & she is capable of keeping herself safe. Can she ride a bike? Is she allowed to “play” with her food? Does she play out with friends alone? Its sort of like flipping eggs in a pan, if you focus on that you wont be able to do it, youll make a mess. If you relax & think oh i got this, youll have a FAR higher chance of flipping those eggs. If a kid falls & you smile & say “pop right up youre fine”, theyll be fine & go right back to playing. If you go “omg are you ok!?” Theyll start crying & get all upset. Kids look to you in how they should respond. Adults kinda do too.
When these kids are so young, I don’t understand the parents, “I DoN’t KnOw WhY tHeY’rE BiG oR hOw To FiX tHeiR DiEt.” These kids don’t have jobs, don’t have money, can’t drive to fast food, can’t shop for groceries alone.... STOP BRINGING THE FOOD INTO THE HOUSE AND FEEDING IT TO THEM.
I was served food and was told I HAD to eat everything on the plate. Growing up my family could really only afford pasta and red sauce, ($1.50 for feeding a family of four). At times we had to go to the food bank, which I was grateful for and still am, but devistatingly they usually only give really starch heavy and unhealthy foods. (ex: more pastas, breads, foods that are high in calories, but inexpensive). I was obese, and lost friends over my differences.
The same “eat everything on your plate” happened to me too even if I was full , it’s awful and caused me to want to try to lose weight on my own when I was young.
Sorry to hear you lost friends. True friends don't worry about what a person looks like and I hope you will always find genuine ones because most of us know we're not perfect . Some people are carb sensitive and won't do well on the type of foods you have described . A ketogenic type diet can work wonders for most people , when they have the knowledge and resources for it .
additionally, i feel like one of the main reasons why poor families eat a lot of carbs is to power them through the day since many have labor inducing jobs. however many can go overboard but don't have the time nor resources to even attempt to deal with their weight/health
"She wouldn't be Bethany, if she wasn't big." Holy moly, I am concerned for that little girl. And, what happens if she ends up wanting to be slim, is her mom going to be like, "I liked you better when you were plump"???? Jfc.
@@sarcasticallyrearranged for real. The way she refused to even try the food that her friends family prepared for them made me mad, she’s an extremely rude child.
One of my kids experiences a kind of anxiety in new social situations that manifests itself similarly. On one level, it is embarrassing, but on another it's sad for me. For my kid, my focus was always on teaching them coping strategies, and helping them to look at things logically. The biggest thing was that I have made it clear that, while it is okay to be scared, we shouldn't like fear stop us from experiencing life. Acknowledging their fears, but not letting them be controlled by them has helped a lot, I think. It's so easy to just give in, but it doesn't help personalities like Libby, because letting the fears win teaches them that there's something to be afraid of, that they should avoid new scary things. Incidentally, my fearful child may not like all the things given to them to eat, but they have a good diet and give everything a good try, despite their reservations. Just my take on this one, but my feeling is that Libby needs to be told that she doesn't have to like the healthy food, but she's going to be expected to try it anyway. One of my kid's classmates would have dinner with us at one point, their mother needed someone to pick them up. Lol, the shock on that child's face when they said they didn't like the vegetables on the plate and I just smiled and replied "that's okay. Eat it anyway." They never argued about my meals again after that.
I mean I would too, but I'd be even more embarrassed if I admitted to not knowing how to swim and not liking water and then acting like my kid crying like that was entirely her own fault
The trick is to feed your kids healthy things before they even know what their eating, if you do it when their around 2 years old they will like the food, it’s what my dad did for us, we only eat things high in protein vitimens and minerals, and we. Plus we lift weights and do calastenics
I used to shellfish and fish by age 3. Snails were served as a snack by age 5. Weird? Probably. But my parents at that way and that is what I was given. My dad is a Spaniard.
This is pure child abuse. 100% blame on parents for where their kids are at now, and where they almost certainly will end up in their future: depressed and addicted to food.
i feel bad for bethany since her mom thinks this is all a load of bs. i grew up in a house where health was considered bs and it messed me up in more ways than 1
Isn’t it amazing to see how much happier the kids are when they have a more active lifestyle though! The transformation between the little girl screaming at the swimming pool in the beginning and having a strop about her food, to happily trying different foods and loving swimming and the group activities and she seemed so much brighter. Of course diet is incredibly important, but kids need to be active for their mental health in the same way adults need to be. I thought it was lovely to see the change in the kids who had started doing more exercise
Bethemy will have lots of health problems if she doesn’t start eating healthy and have smaller portions. Her mom should be happy with the healthier lunch at school.

It’s sad that most of this is down to the lifestyle choices of the parents. Lots of processed food, enormous portions and minimal physical activity.
I was a very picky eater and I starved myself. Now as an adult I don't eat.

The fact that kesley's older sister has more common sense than her mum is saddening.
And did your school serve only highly processed foods like they do now?
One time my mom bought kfc 3 days in a row. I was very disgusted and now I don’t eat out anymore
50s and 60s in America was abit different, they had burger chains and pizza...but still obesity was not an epidemic then
That's not true at all they had fast food back then and obesity has been around as long as human kind. Do you have dementia? You tell creative stories

"There's no excuse really, I just haven't had the time"
So you love your kid, but aren't doing everything you can to save their life and keep them healthy? And giving the excuse that you 'don't have time' to even take a walk?
The fact that she says that she has 'nothing to be sorry for' and walks off crying shows that she KNOWS what she is doing, or more accurately what she is NOT doing
It's sad
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
exactly. theres no reason why she couldnt of been walking that track with her child
These moms always blame on the genes and metabolism, never themselves.
Well the kids inherit the genes last time I checked so.... I mean it is a possibility that they gave the kids the genes 🧬
Not saying the other reasons aren’t valid
When she said ‘I know it’s my fault I’ve done this to her’ I thought ah the penny has dropped! Then she followed up with ‘I gave her the genes’ 😒
Kelsey's sister is so chill
I love it
Does anyone remember dining tables? That's where I ate my meals.
Personally, I can’t stand eating food on a sofa or chair. It has to be on a table or countertop
I was raised on the table eating in the living room is for special occasions only
That's where I still eat my meals. It's strange not to. When I have kids I'll make a rule to eat together as a family.
That’s where my family eats all our foods every day together
i ate dinner at the kitchen table with whichever parent was home while my siblings ate at the dining table. on weekends we'd all eat at the dining table. idk if thats weird
I am so shocked by this culture honestly...small things like allowing the kids to eat on the sofa instead of on a table or the acting picky while being hosted was unacceptable when I was young...
I grew up in Russia in the 80s-90s and I’d be sent to a CORNER for such behavior HUNGRY till next day and the ONLY place for eating was always A TABLE
Eating on a table keeps the metabolism high but on a sofa or a bed is very bad because your body posture is related with digestion . Also any sweet drink is dangerous if aerated.
It's so heartbreaking to watch how these parents are ruining those child's lives. 💔
I'm proud I bet ur a good parent stay safe!
I relate and do try to install healthy eating and activities for my daughter. I spent most my life in hospitals with anorexia and still struggle
I loved that she said, “I feel like going into the swimming pool n not coming out!!”
Stated like a true swimmer!
Keep it up. It’s a life long skill once you’ve got it, it can never be taken away fr you!!
I feel that some areas of the world, that are close to bodies of water, or surrounded by water (lakes, coast lines, islands, etc.)
Swimming should be a MANDATORY class for children/teens n adults. This should dramatically decrease the number of deaths d/t accidental drownings. Setting a precedence for survival: Swimming, First aide, CPR n survival training to children/teens besides just adults
I’m a lifelong swimmer since the age of 4yo. My parents aren’t swimmers.
I saved a little girl who was unsupervised and was pulled out with the tide @ a beach. She was about 7yo...I was 10yo.
You only get one chance to live. Make it count!!
Learn to swim classes are mandatory in Australian schools, in fact a lot of schools have their own pools.
These parents have so many excuses! Poor kids :(.
It's not all their fault. This work life in capitalism isn't healthy ethier, and the information about which foods are healthy it's not so easy today.
They all blame their metabolism instead of the food they put into their bodies! The sheer amount is horrifying
Charlieto you can’t assume anything about people these days
Loose like a belt?
Well no kids shouldn't know about nutrition in such a manner. I don't think any kid should know about calories carbs etc. They should have everything in moderation. And this starts from the parents. They should be educated on nutrition
I noticed the parents are overweight too. It seems generational. They need to educate themselves on the harm this passive parenting is actually doing.
14:11 Basically what she just said: "I want to help my child lose weight but I don't want to be one of those mothers that help their child lose weight" -_-
I grew up being told if you don’t eat it you get nothing else! Parents should be ashamed about they are dragging up their children nowadays
I grew up with my parents saying you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit in other words you don’t eat what was made you get nothing at all there was 8 kids all together and my parents that’s 10ppl I get why they did that seems it would be easier with less children I have 2 toddlers but they eat veggies and fruit rather have that then meat but I still do the whole you eat what is served to you I don’t want them to go to someone’s house and say oh I don’t like that when you never know what that person cabinets look like and they made the time to prepare food
What does "dragging up" mean? I've never heard it before.
@@petrosinella it means not being a good parent and letting kids do what they want instead of bringing them up they drag them ❤️
Grew up that way also and now I don't eat ever and have a food issues.
I was living in Scotland 1,5year. Junk food is cheap. The same as sweets and fruits or veg. Its all about the CHOICE. If You have 1£ You can buy one very big pomergranate or chocolate. Its all in our brain.
Another thing is: don't buy sweets and unhealthy snacks! If You don't have It at home - You don't eat it!!!!
Mmmm chocolate covered pomegranate by Brookside chocolates. I'm a problem solver two in one. This is a joke I never know how my jokes translate on RUclips
Same. My mom would give us a couple bucks to go get ice cream or slurpies but we’d have to walk several km to go and get them and come back.
Off topic but Cornetto is so good ahh😫
Yes, my kids can have a doughnut any time they want....they just have to walk or bike to the shop.
Parent: "Its the steroids" 8 year old friend: "He likes food.."
Yea kids aren’t lying
Friend: 'He has 3rds and 2nd's" Truth 😂
I have never restricted my children’s portions. We always have food to help ourselves to in the middle of the table. I have never piled their plates up and therefore never forced them to eat anything or finish anything. They did learn to not be greedy, because it is rude to pile your plate up with food you won’t then eat and they were taught that too. Children aren’t idiots, they learn what they see and sadly the children on this programme have been fantastic students of their parents diet, mental states, weaknesses, and activity levels.
Surprise surprise the carbs are getting the blame…never mind the plates full of cheese and the complete absence of exercise.
* angry vegan noises*
But to be sincere, if we speak about children, they are more likely to overeat something sweet than something greasy.

Bethany seemed happy to enjoy the school meal. All the school dinners looked good. As the principal said, many years ago, children would spent after school and weekends playing outside etc. Now these days, they usually are on technology, video games etc
Can the child minder give Libby's Mum the recipe for chicken curry perhaps
This was filmed at least a decade ago, a bit late for the recipe I reckon.

A ketogenic type diet can work wonders for most people , when they have the knowledge and resources for it .
they are not your real friends! real friends don’t care about your looks
additionally, i feel like one of the main reasons why poor families eat a lot of carbs is to power them through the day since many have labor inducing jobs. however many can go overboard but don't have the time nor resources to even attempt to deal with their weight/health

It could be a sensory thing
Honestly Lucas has my Heart ❤️ he’s such a sweetie

Isn’t it amazing to see how much happier the kids are when they have a more active lifestyle though! The transformation between the little girl screaming at the swimming pool in the beginning and having a strop about her food, to happily trying different foods and loving swimming and the group activities and she seemed so much brighter. Of course diet is incredibly important, but kids need to be active for their mental health in the same way adults need to be. I thought it was lovely to see the change in the kids who had started doing more exercise
This is just bad parenting in my opinion
