just installed these today.
WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE RACKS THAT ARE NOT THE TUSK QUICK RELEASE, CAN THE PANNIERS STILL WORK OR DO I NEED TO BUY THE RACKS TOO.
I HAVE A GEN 1 KLR WITH A FULL CRASH BAR THAT CAME WITH RACKS TOO.
yeah they should work, just use the instructions that the racks on the bike use for mounting
medium or large?
do yourself a favour and solder those connections and seal it with shrink tubing then put a small sealed loom on it. those butt connectors are corrosion waiting to happen and could cause an accident on the road if someone doesn't see you signalling. never skimp on lights and brakes, go for the good stuff.
Thanks for your input. We like soldered connections as well. We just wanted to demonstrate how the average guy could do it, since not everyone is going to know how to solder or have access to a soldering gun.
I get that, cool video guys. those tusk panniers are really nice. does that spring loaded quick attach get lazy over time and quit holding the pannier?
TraverseRun Hey thanks! As far as the quck release spring goes, we've had no issues with them loosing their tension over time. We definitely put them to the test and they hold up great! Upon installation, as long as you get your holes lined up you're golden.
Alright, do you have them worked out for the africa twin yet?
Not just yet. But we're on it!
hmmm. i know what my next big purchase after tires is....
A great choice! Thanks!
make sure you splice your blinker wires PROPERLY!! Always use weather tight connectors and shrink tubing!!
crimp connectors and electrical tape is the FAIL method.
why not just put bullet connectors on any extension looms for the turn signals? your OEM harness remains virgin, your signal leads remain stock, and you can return the tail to stock configuration without having to play electrician. bullets cost the same as butts, and the only hacked up bits are the extension wires. it seems FAR more sensible
because someone who knows nothing about electricity was allowed to create this video. butt connectors and electrical tape? really? why not use proper weatherproof connectors and shrink tubing, the way outdoor electrical connections are meant to be made?
