His drum mix sounds amazing!!!
This mix is still strong in 2024!!!
Tenho 70 anos e 60 anos de música, ficou estarrecido com TD w estou ouvindo, mágico, acima de TDS as médias genial.
Buzz Feiten is actually on the Olivia Newton John "Physical Tour DVD from 1982 that I have. The other guitar player is Michael Landau! If you listen, you hear some very good playing! Great concert!!!!
Dave was already a genious back then. Even improving today (if it was possible...) with refinements. Real master
Credits:
Dave Weckl - drums and bandleader
Jay Oliver - keyboards
Buzz Feiten - guitar
Brandon Fields - sax
Tom Kennedy - bass
Thanks. Jay Oliver, my favorite.
As many people already said, and considering of course that all are top level musicians, I really love how Buzz contributes with his performance on here. Such a talented as underrated guitarist.
The first song that they are playing is called,"The Zone" from the "Rhythm of the Soul" CD.The musicians are: Dave on Drums,Tom Kennedy on bass,Jay Oliver on keyboards,Brandon Fields on tenor and soprano sax and Buzz Feiten on guitar.
Thanks for your info bro 👍👍
This was without a doubt one of Dave's best groups ever. The addition of guitarist Buzz Feiten really added to the overall groove and fullness of sound! If you don't have the album "Rhythm Of The Soul" which featured this core grab it!
A great album, but "Synergy" is even better, IMO.
I agree. I bought it as soon as it dropped in '98. Great jams!
@@brookelyn7714 really
Their crowning achievement was 'Synergy', both the album and its 7th track of the same name. When I give the gift of music, this is most often the CD I choose. I run the Buzz Feiten Fan Club group on Facebook, and this fusion masterpiece anchors the great guitarist in his technical prime!
Everyone always talks about Buzz on here, but Neil Larsen is what brought me to this channel lol.
Really like that 8" Tom with the built-in snare strainer. I'm surprised it isn't part of his signature line. However, it's too bad Yamaha built that only for him & was never available to the public.
Wauu...amazing,para mi Weckl sigue siendo uno de los bateristas mas completos de la historia...excelente interprete,educador,compositor,productor...commpletisimo.
He even sounds musical when he drops a stick! (See 1:03:23)
many thanks for downloading this awesome stuff!!!
My favorite edition of the Dave Weckl Band. Jay Oliver really can play his &%$ off and Buzz Feiten just added something really special to the unit.
At 1:14:27 is the most incredible drum solo I've ever seen in my life, no questions asked.
I was there - front row - spoke with the guys mid and after show. Buzz was incredibly genuine, generous, warm and welcoming like I was an old friend. This was the most enjoyable show I'd ever been to - and this video only ever reaffirms the grateful 2 days I had the immense pleasure to witness incredible greatness. It's still beyond me how good someone can be on an instrument - never a flaw - never a mistake - just absolute perfection... How is that possible?
wooooooooooooooow .... the best years of dave weckl band
greatest upload !!!!!! thank you sir for that
+miles 178 Same for me, my favorite periode! He was zildjian... I'm still not used to see him playing on sabian!!
+Dimitri P He was playing sabians in this vid what do you mean?
+Mark Kilmer yes! I'm still used to see him playing Zildjian... :-)
+Mark Kilmer he switched into sabians after 2000, after finishing his recording of Transition CD (still playing zildjs on that record) ... this is from 1998 = rhythm of the soul era so stil Zilds)
+miles 178 That's what I wanted to say :-) I know he plays sabian but as I grew up seeing him playing zildjian and now he plays sabian, I don't know a lot top players switching brands.
Big Tom Kennedy fan here
scottbos68 ME TOO !!!
Mud Sauce is one of my favourites, it's so groovy!
That stick recovery @1:03:21 was incredible :O
Dave is my favorite.
Seen him play some and it was amazing.
His dynamics and skill make it look like he invented the instrument. ✌️
The undisputed champion of dynamics and finesse.
Jesus ... this band was totally about finesse and elegance! See Buzz Feiten's WikiPedia pages, one for his career, and one for his discography.
Buddy Rich? Yes, I TOTALLY AGREE ! ! !
Frank you called it, The King of Finesse... Nothin but Net.... Everytime The Man Plays.
HELL YES BRO!!!
Totally agree
The funny thing about these top level drummers is they're only there because they worked for it when you're as technically skilled as weckl or gadd or buddy rich you can play whatever you want and it will be considered amazing, feel is definitely a more difficult thing for a drummer to grasp but I believe anyone can develop it if they play for long enough
These guys play their instruments like we breath the air - effortlessly. Just ridiculous. This level of proficiency and expression on their respective instruments is pretty much unreachable by most of us. And this was 25 years ago.
Musicians Institute? I think it's pretty disrespectful to not even list the musicians.
The best
This is outrageous. Been listening to Buzzy since the Peaceful World and Isle Of Real Rascals albums.
Everything kept in great order
Seems not had too much people excitement, and Dave notices about. Rare, was a nice gig!.
+thedrummerboycr It's bad editing I guess. Just look at his movement and the ride cymbal... Seems to be a technical delay.
Jay Oliver is a killer player!!!
Keep it up Jay!!!
Im 25 and just started getting into fusion. That solo by Buzz in Song for Claire is one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard, hands down. Wow! He just goes exactly where you want him to go. Not a bad note in that solo.
Why did Dave switch to sabian ? Wish he would have went to paiste
Jay Oliver...my absolute hero of all times....
There's a reason he's on every single Weckl album....
full ack.
I just realized that I was attending M.I. during this time and saw this concert. I also had the pleasure of having a picture taken with Dave Weckl. One of my Idols growing up.
Dave é o melhor do mundo!
Nunca vi um batera tão completo!
Eu já vi ao vivo no Coliseu no Porto com Chick. Não há igual
Vinnie Colaiuta !!!
Exellent if the bass drum wasn t overload volume. Very best players
So appre ciated thank Yo)))
Can someone denote the names of the musicians (besides DW on drums) and track listing? This is such great music.
Access Denied
1:24:25
Thank you Dave !!
49:10 - 49:22 Catching the bottom of that crash cymbal like a boss
Now this is the fusion I like! I don't like that weird stuff where they just play random notes, it's noise, this is music!
What a line up.. This is my backing track song that I use to work out the funk. Love this BAND.
This is the MOTHER of all fusion jazz!!
Watching guys like Weckl always makes me want to play.
I used to play in a jazz/fusion band, and we did covers of Mud Sauce and 101 Shuffle. They were such great improv tunes and a lot of fun to play.
Wow!
Such an amazing drum mixing.
Seriously why has no one mentioned how Mud Sauce fast forwards straight to the guitar solo??
Yeah, I noticed that. Too bad ... I wonder if MI can post the original? Buzz is my #1, and it's a great solo, but we ought to be able to hear the whole thing!
Still a blessing to watch regardless :-)
Yeah I did notice how the video fast forwarded.
I figured no one would care because of the bands incredible performance.
But - I wondered the same!
He does sound better with Zildjians.
Solo @15:50 @29:05 @47:05 @1:01:10 @1:14:25
Thx for cueing up the solos. 👍
That foot pedal rhythm starting at 1:17:37 is awesome. I would like to learn more about your method of keeping that going so smoothly. Actually that whole drum solo is beautiful. I'm pretty sure that I could get the fills done, but I can't seem to find the foot Independence as well.
Wow this is so damn funky !!! Love the guitar work !!!
Not gonna lie, the guitar tone is pretty terrible for this assemble and group sound. It sounds so gainy, and digital. Shoulda went with a genuine fender or les paul. Needs a little bit more bite and grit.
I unfortunately agree that the tone is too digitalized. But a bigger problem is that the guitar simply isn't high enough in the mix. But Buzz's playing is so utterly out of this world that you have to try to bracket those things out. It's the chops and musicality that ultimately matter, not the mix. And Buzz in IMO is the best out there.
You think Buzz should have Les Paul or genuine Fender. Buzz made his own tuning system and even guitar. So Buzz's playing is soulful
Noooo. The sound of guitar is incredible awesome. You need balls. Thats all
1:22:32 RLLRRLLR RLLRRLLR
Thank you, Mr. Weckl!!
Would you be so kind as to give me some detail behind the RLLRRLLR RLLRRLLR sticking? I see it perhaps as an 8 or 16 note pattern and interested to know how it might be used and how it is most effective? Thank you for the insight.
Risenson Inthesky its a simple „inward double stroke“, which simply means, it begins with a single note. It can be played in any time with every time (8th, 16th, triplets and so on)
wwwwoooooooooooooooooooooweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! WHAT A LICK!
wwwwoooooooooooooooooooooweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! WHAT A LICK!
Tom Kennedy 💖💪🎵🎶
Cats can play!!! Buzz Feiten has been my favorite since Butterfield. He only got better and better (though it's too bad that he's not loud enough here,; but that's a mixing mistake, not a musician's mistake). *This* is what "fusion" could be. No lame "smooth jazz" here. And more pocket oriented than RTF kinds of things. This is the peak of a genre. IMO, best band ever assembled.
I hear buzz loud and clear on my system
Twenty years ago, and listen and listening again...The best days of Dave's dynamics...Awewsome...Here From Brazil never stop listen...
Brandon Fields is a marvellous saxophonist!!! as the others...
Sure is :)
bloody hell.....Dave came from mars.....
The best dave weckl solo that I have seen far now and very nice overall performance
Insane performance. Incredible. All the musicians are virtuosos. Weckl’s playing is smoother than a baby’s bottom covered in talc powder.
Wanna see a great bass player, just look for a band lead by a drummer...
Согласен. )))
Здесь все музыканты крутые!
Best jazz rock band on Earth
Tom Kennedy on Bass ? ... Genius indeed !!!
Jay is a genius!
Tom Kennedy is just as good with his bass guitar as Dave is on drums. This is pure dynamics and skill on display here. That last number was explosive and awe inspirational. If I could do that then I would have all of the skills and talents to perform for anyone! And those drums sound incredible. He pulled out everything he had in that performance.
GREAT! The 90 : all time best of fusion!
That sax and keyboard duo at 58:30 is legendary. Pure understanding and collaboration
Saw this amazing version of the DWB in Nashville 's Gibson Cafe back in the day... One of the best live fusion performances I ever saw... They killed, knocked the roof of the motha'!
I like Weckl gigs from the 90s. Better than the current ones
When he startend with mach grip i was like waaaaa????
I came here For Jay !
Buzz likes to ''open a can of whoop-ass'' on all his guitar solos apparently ... just sayin .... he kicks ass on that thing!
Nobodies cymbals and drums sound as good as Dave's, absolutely genius playing.
Pedazo de banda que buenos son todos... Lo único que no me ha gustado es el sonido de la guitarra suena a alambres por lo demás un 10 bravo! Bravisimo!
Wowow! Incredible musicians=- All of them- it just does not get any better
If you were born on the day of this show, you'd be able to legally buy a beer in about six weeks. And that's weird, because to me it feels like this album came out yesterday.
⏳sure does ✈️ !
amazing bass solo at 26:00
MONSTER from 11:00 .... DAVE WECKL N°1
What's The Name of the keyboard player I can't get it
?
Jay Oliver
Louie C.K. has a beautiful melodic sense on the clarinet. Breath taking!
that shit just made my day! gracias man
Dick Nixon it's good to observe I wasn't the only one seeing that
This is even funnier now that Louie was caught doing weird shit.
That might have been funny if he actually looked like Louie C.K.
Such finesse in playing! Dave rocks
Just go to 1:06.20 and listen to Buss....what a monster!!!
Love the DWB! Amazing - saw them live in '98 in Portland. Great players. Thanks so much for sharing.
This is one of the best shows given by master Weckl and this amzing and gifted musicians, I watch it over and over again from time to time just to remember how incredible this music and band was. Dave should call them over and make a final last piece.
Best drummer of all time. I’ve never seen a bassist like this as well.
I would like to know who is the director of this concert, that when there is the keyboard player's solo, he frames the guitarist and vice versa, a genius ........
Someone watching and song for Claire are in my top 3 of weckl's song .
+Thomas Duchein Such beautiful compositions!
Even Dave Weckl voice is awesome.
28-08-1998 it was a friday not a thursday :) Joking :P
Great upload! Great concert with awesome musicians!
Omg check out the teenage looking Fodera-less 98’ Tom Kennedy.. haha!
Im fascinated by how noticeable & significant Buzz Feitens presence (or absence) was to this band!! I mean a he’s a guitarist in a drummer led rhythmically centered group with a very busy bassist.. Alongside heavyweights on keys & sax (naturally far superior harmonists & soloists respectively than us guitar players). And yet, Feiten STILL makes or breaks this band for me, and I’m definitely not alone on this!!
We old SIMPLY THE BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!l
There tons of excellent musicians but Dave is Premier!!!!!!
What's killer is he makes it look easy - mind blowing!
Who is the keyboard player?who can tell me.I like his notes!
夏泽鑫 jay oliver
Yeah! My favorite iteration of Dave Weckl band - w/ buzz!
Bom D+
TUTTI Superlativi Assoluti!!! MA *COSA FA*, Weckl: è davvero incredibile............... Non c'è un solo istante in cui non sia Sublime, nel suo modo UNICO di Suonare....... Perfetto. Assoluto IN TUTTO quello che fa.
Weckl?..... SEMPLICEMENTE: IL PIU' GRANDE DI OGNI TEMPO. Da lasciarti senza parole.............. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Wow - what a great, great * 100 video!! The version of 'Someone's Watching' (located in the 30 - 40 minute range) is nothing short of amazing!!
Buzzy Feiten-OMG the best
BAD-ASS ... Buzz Feiten, one of the greatest guitarist of all time. Hands DOWN !!!!!!.
Doesn't get any tighter than this. Everyone was right in the pocket. And, of course, we've got Dave Weckl here. 16:45 (amd on): *HOLY sh**#t* .
There's so much going on and yet there's still space in the music!
What song reference is it at 10:24? I know I've heard of it before.
Maybe George Benson - give me the night?
In the past, solo drums played the music with a full band, but in the year 2000 and above, the digital era began to take hold, and more and more people used sequencers.
