Humble family, hugely successful and famous patriarch, generations of a legacy. Inspirational story, right there. At my advanced age and health, it's a real bucket list thing to visit Level Cross one day. God bless the Petty family. - Ed on the Ridge
Do it! Lol! I finally made the trek last year for Pettyfest. It was absolutely amazing! The museum and the garage are awesome and every single person there is just incredible. Everyone speaks to you like you're lifelong friends and that includes Petty family members. Wonderful people. The best of course was getting to meet Richard Petty himself and show him my car and what I've done to it. The King autographed a couple things for me and he signed my car!! Best day ever! Lol. All the way home to New York (an hour north of Watkins Glen) I'd periodically say to my wife "hey honey guess what? Richard Petty signed my car!" Lol
Man, I still remember going to races and seeing that car in the "Petty groove", just off the outside wall, at speed. What an amazing era to grow up in.
Awesome. I had the pleasure to meet and speak with Richard Petty at the Brickyard 400 hanging out by the pits during in the early 2000s. What a nice man.
"CARS" made that beautiful Blue bird even more famous than it already was, I guess Richard too for that matter, but pretty as she always has been, for this Ol' Petty Fan, The King will forever drive that 73-77 Charger thru the back roads of my memories 🙏 With that said... Long Live The KING, Long Live The Blue Bird! #IBleedPettyBlue43 #43FOREVER!
Right where it belongs! But, if you ever run out of room, you can store her at my place! Love you guys, LOVE this channel! Thanks so much for these videos!
@@T.h.e__T.r.u.t.h LOL! No connection with the famous short track, my daddy started calling me that when I was always playing draw with Marshall Dillon every Monday night when Gunsmoke came on our TV 😂 As for the spelling of Miss Lynda's name, no biggie, just figured you'd like to know is all 👍 Take care & be well 🙏
@Slinger43 thank you for sharing that I can dig it slinger, and I'm deeply embarrassed I misspelled her name considering the significance she played in shaping the legend once again thank you for that correction peace and love from Milwaukee WI USA
Putting away a piece of ingenuity and placing it in its historic place in time ! Wow I love that car sooo much and the icing on the cake is having Mr. Petty helping put it in the museum!!😎👍🏻🦅🇺🇸🙏😇
That is my all time favorite car. My heart races and blood pressure rises just watching this video! I NEED to visit that museum! It's tough living in the Pacific Northwest with such NASCAR history so far away.
I'm very impressed. Richard, you are truly blessed to be surrounded by such a loving and talented family. Such support trumps all. By the way, Goodwood is very impressive. I really didn't know much about it until recently. All the best.
It was nice to see that car run now it is clean and back next to mom Richard you are the greatest driver ever But more important than that is you are the best representative in nascar ever thank you for being so kind and signing all the autographs for everyone and you did for me
I have Got to get to to North Carolina ( or as my 5 year old Grandson said Norf Carfulina) to see that museum, I was born in 1964 And Richard was my hero because my dad worked for Chrysler
GREAT VIDEO. The background noise made me turn the sound down though. I met the King at a Shopping center in Eden N.C. before the race at Martinsville Va. back in the early 70's. Total class act.
I read, somewhere, that Don Garlits consulted with Lee Petty (Richard's dad) on how to properly tune a Hemi, when he started running them. I have no idea how true it is, but it's a cool story.
Another thing I gotta come down And. See how things look down there da museum. Like to go in the old garage where Ler You And Maurice Started. Yeah. Think I found died and went to Heaven. Petty Blue Forever!!!
I saw Adams Name on The Hood. !!! Yep. Gone Buy Not Forgotten. He was Probably Sitting Next to His GrandFather Lee Watching the Whole Thing W the Best Seat in The House. !! God Bless Da Petty Family. Forever Blue. !!!!! King could You Send Me One of Yer Daddy's Wrenches I Could put on My Toolbox Please King. Or hmm i.could use that tool Maurice would use to clean up the cyl. It was blk or gray and had them balls that would clean the walls. Yep
The rear wing always gave it downforce, the faster it went, the more downforce. The nose started coming in at around 100MPH, but after about 150MPH, the rear spoiler and the nose started working against each other. If you search a little, you can find how they started working on front lower valence splitters, to give it more front downforce. Buddy Baker took a Daytona to the first 200MPH lap speed for NASCAR at Talladega, in the early testing days. He said when he was at top speed, you could turn the wheel back and forth and it wouldn't turn the car. He had to come off the throttle as he approached the turns, so he could steer through them. Just imagine if he didn't have to lift! Would have made even more history that day.
..the only thing wrong with this video is that it is 1 second too long. Ahaha! ..anyone note the green Superbird in the shop? Looked to be a modded car, a convertible! Wild. Maybe a GTX, or road runner with a wing/beak. Interesting. & I never noted the stainless flashing they installed between the rear bumper & quarter panel before..still learning new things about this 54 yr old beautiful beast.🩵🏁🏆
Thanks, Dad for letting Kyle drive the SuperBird!!! Great family story!
It kind of brings a tear to your eye doesn't it.

The whole process of running that car and putting it back in the museum is a thing of beauty. Thanks!

That video was so touching to know it went off to Goodwood and then when it returned home richard himself helped push it next to his Lynda
No biggie, but actually it's "Lynda" 😉👍
@Slinger43 thank you for that correction you wouldn't happen to have any connections to slinger speedway in wi would ya?

Fantastic! Legendary race car comes back to the Petty complex in Level Cross, NC. A must see addition to the Petty Museum.

Great to see the Petty family part of this story! I was 7 when the winged warriors raced. I was hooked.
Mr. Petty and his Superbird🙏 Awesome to see it.

Would love to have seen the process of it being shipped over there.
I have always wondered how many Superbirds Petty Enterprises have or had?
I BELIEVE THERE WAS 3 , RICHARD HAD 2 , AND PETE HAMILTON WAS DRIVING # 40
Kinda neet watching Richard at 86 yrs old helping to push the superbird.
❤
I'm confused. Where did it go?

I'm 63. nobody said what speed the nose and wing started working aero gains
