I went to his house when I was very, very young but remember it still. That was almost 50 years ago now. He wasn't famous world wide then like he is now but it was still amazing getting to go see him sitting on the front porch talking to fans like they were his family. He's a big part of why NASCAR became as big as it did. He was there at the beginning.
Richard Petty is an absolute living legend. He always amazes me with his sharpness and great personality. I've talked to people who have met him in real life situations and he is every bit as cordule as he is on camera.
This guy is class act. I met him and he was humble, friendly and even stayed to take pictures and sign autographs. He was class act 100 percent. That says a ton because, I mean, how many times do you think he has done this in his life time? He made our experience feel like it was his first interaction with fans.

I remember watching one of the first races with the Daytona Charger with the Hemi! Cars down in the "groove" and Big Blue comes around the outside like "Excuse me gentlemen" .....🚀 At one point Richard had two laps on the crowd and the announcers were joking about him stopping for lunch........🍔🍟☕
That demo/prototype Pontiac 2+2 Aerocoupe was pretty sweet. Very cool that he was able to snag it from the crusher. I hate when companies crush custom/demo cars they build. They should be preserved somehow if they end up being notable cars.
I'm a young guy I never seen Petty race but one thing I knew was that Earnhardt was the Intimadater and Petty is the King so when I went to this museum and he happened to be there I about fainted and he is such a nice and down to earth guy

I worked a Chrysler development and Richard and I have dynoed engines together and we drove door handle to handle at Chelsea proving grounds and did lots of superbird together. I miss the good old days.

My dad and mom went to the 1988 and 1989 Daytona firecracker 400. Back then you could knock on driver's trailers. My dad knocked on Kyle's and Kyle answered the door. And my dad said "where's the King 👑" Kyle just smiled at him and shook his hand. Richard Petty is the best racer ever. It's going to be a horrible day when he passes away. Please Don't take him for granted people.

I Had The Privilege Of Meeting Richard Petty at The 2011 Barrett Jackson Auction In Scottsdale Arizona, When I was very Young I Would Watch All The Races I could That Richard Petty Was In
Many MANY years ago I called Petty Enterprises and bugged them to death until I got to talk to Richard Petty it took about 15 phone calls LOL anyway I had a 70 440 Roadrunner and I needed to lose half a second in the quarter mile I could not seem to do it. He said send us your intake and cylinder heads so I did got them back in about three weeks. And what do you know I went from 11.30s in the quarter mile to 10.70s! They did some porting and raised the floor of the exhaust ports in the heads all for just a few hundred dollars man they knew their stuff but of course they are professionals and truly good people.
Whats the deal with people who wear seat belts with the should strap under the arm, don't they realize they would break every rib, crush their lungs and then shatter every bone in their face before they get KO'd on the dash? You guys are legends, safety first!
Beautiful collection, I hope provisions are made keep the collection together. When the Reno car collection was broken up the shops shut down it was a very sad day. I love those brakes on the Petty Mustang. My brother had a perfect ''64 Mustang, he kept it in pristine condition but the jackass smelled a new F -250 smell and traded it in. I'm sure an hour later when the truck got a scape, flat tire, or the new truck smell faded away, he raced to the Ford dealer to be told that the owner bought his Mustang, 10 minutes after he sold it. I was 2 or 3 at the time, or I would have tackled him had he tried to pull the stunt. Our brother in law's dad owned a storage locker place and collected classic fire engines. He told my brother that he could have it wrapped, oil and gas drained, tires off and store it for as long as he wanted when it was clear that a '64 was going to be a collectible, but he stalled and stalled until on impulse he sold it. Today the price of a cherry '64 that is original is off the charts, you can't find one. The Petty Mustang looks more than an early Dodge muscle car that you couldn't give away in the mid-70's will gas shortages and 55 mph limits. I like it, but simple elegance has made Apple the biggest tech company n the world. Simple elegance is another name for the early Mustang.

You're right on both counts. The show started out on TNN back in Jan 1996 and moved to Speedvision in 2000. That became SPEED a few years later, and we were there till it went away in 2014. Petty was my child hood hero when it came to cars. I would force my dad to get to the store and buy the electric slot cars that had the Petty cars. Even a brown boy like me all the way up in Canada. Petty influenced us all. He is the King.
That’s actually where I came to know of him as a 5 year old back in 2006. I had a thing for Petty blue back then (and still do lol) and I paid more attention to Strip Weathers (yes that’s his name in the movie) and growing older I learned a bit more about the history he made and since then he and his late wife have both been an inspiration to me. The way they loved eachother until the very end makes me believe in true undying love. What he does to give back to the community especially with victory junction makes me so happy. I can go on and on about how much he inspires me but it’s pretty clear I’ve written a huge comment here and no one will probably read the whole thing :P but anyways. TL;DR: 6 year old me grew obsessed with him as a car, growing up he became my biggest human inspiration

My cousin Jim Ritz was a driver at the proving grounds for many years. I did the pest control there (mostly birds in the milage accumulator building).
