I have a jk two door six speed its so much fun, Ive considered getting a two door jl rubicon in two door but just cant seem to part with no note. Great video youre really getting good. Glad to see the journey. God Bless! Keep it going.
I have a JL... looks nice and has a few design upgrades like removing doors and soft top operation are much easier over the JK. However, its pathetically over-engineered and overly computerized to the point of absurdity. Two batteries are a total pain, all kinds of problems with auto start stop, corrosion issues, the list goes on and on. Mine has spent 3 weeks in the shop over just the last 2 months to fix 4 different problems. Contrast this with my wife's JK... it has 178k miles, it's 5 years old and it's been solid as a rock. We've only replaced the radiator. That's it. JKs are designed much simpler and that translates to reliability. If I had it to do over again, I would buy a JK a hundred times over the JL.
I have had the opposite experience with JK's my JLs have been almost bullet proof where as every JK I have had has had electrical issues. Thanks for all the info on your experience!
Got a 2015 wrangler sahara jku a couple months ago for $24k with only 30k on the odo. Fully loaded (even leather!) I knew the old couple that traded it in to the dealership and bought it from the dealership before they even put it on the lot (saved some money because they didnt clean, inspect, or "repair" anything). I could sell it tomorrow for 30k if I wanted... But im kind of in love with this thing, especially with the 6 speed manual. Ive got about 50k miles to drive before it has any noticeable impact on resale, so I think I will.
Sold my 2015 JKU Sport in January to find a Rubicon. Was going back and forth from JK and JL and ended up with a JKUR that was also a 2015 and only 50k miles. The cost difference was around $8,000 at minimum (rougher shape, higher miles) and upwards of $15-20k or more to jump to a JLUR and I couldn’t justify that. I get part of that price difference is just age, but I don’t mind the the outdated interior, only wish it was the 8 speed trans.. If it was really a $5000 difference at the time I probably would have went JL but at easily double that made my mind for me.
I bought my Jeep in September 2018 and I looked and looked finally I found a 2017 JKU Rubicon HR used with 39k miles, every factory option. The army ranger spent $80k on it he used it to get from Barracks to barracks so only highway miles and it had no after market modifications done to it. The price should have been about $55k give or take, so when he was asking $28k I was very suspicious. 1 it was on ebay 2 he said if I send him the money he'll send me the jeep. So I told him if it's real I will rent a car and drive to pick it up and we settled on a price of $26,500. It's got about 53k miles on it today and I could double my money if I sold it today. I get offers all the time because that's what I do. I run a mobile install business where I go to the costumer and install Jeep parts and even do full custom builds. All I'm saying is you can come across a great deal. In my case I had to take extra precautions because it was almost to good to be true. So be careful and keep hunting°|||||||°
I bought a top lift pro I finally said I'm going to do it oh I love it So it's easier and do it by yourself It's just it's worth it get one when they're on sale for $849 .00 with free shipping Right now. Promise you'll be glad you did
The best thing for me about the Wrangler is the looks. I appreciate the heritage look. It is Iconic. Similar to what Porsche has done with the 911, although even more so. My biggest problem with the Wrangler is who makes it. Unfortunately, Chrysler (Daimler/Chrysler, Fiat Chrysler, Stellantis - whatever you want to call them) typically suffer from quality and reliability problems more so than many others.. Bought a Chrysler product years ago and it was the single worst vehicle from a quality/reliability standpoint I have ever owned. About 20 years later I decided to get a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Well, let's just say it wasn't the worst. Changing their name doesn't seem to help. All I know is I am done with them. And adding more "technology" will only worsen it (for all vehicles) as these things age. I won't assume the third time will be the charm, irrespective of their name. .
Happy to hear another option! In my experience we get a lot of Canadian Jeeps and Rams from auction in TN and they are generally bad apples. If it’s not the rust it’s the electronics for some reason. Very strange and of course the warranty won’t transfer to the states either in most cases. I try to stay away from them as much as I can. Thanks for watching!
I had my 3.6L blow a head gasket at 20k miles. It was a 2015. I've put 30k into the damn thing. It's still really sweet, I like the JK much better than any of my JLs. The little things are just so much better. Just hate all the plastic stuff that snaps when you're working on them.
That's very helpful information. Jeeps in general get a bad wrap in Australia no matter the model. I would love one but am consistently turned off from the reputation they get here. It's Toyota country here 🤷🏻♂🤷🏻♂
From a reliability standpoint it is hard to beat Toyota. But from a durability standpoint especially for off-road situation they don’t stand up near as well here simply because of the independent suspension. They definitely all have their pros and cons. Thanks for watching!
got a 2007 jku sahara w the 3.8l v6 about 7 months ago. I did not get it thinking ill sell it in the future. I want to to keep, upgrade it and keep it on the road and in the woods. Is it slow? a lil bit but i did not get a lifted jeep to go fast lmao. Right now, its on 35s, 2 inch lift, steel bumpers. Getting about 16mpg and have not had any engine issues. It currently has 128k miles.
Not everyone like ir wants all the technology crap that comes ok these jl's. I think most jeep owning are more practical. That's why tj's are still so popular too. I'd rather not have all that jl crap
Baby 👶 must put bolts in place!! Make sure they are the right bolts 😂lol. Who needs a gym when you can remove the top every weekend 😆the new gladiator here in Phoenix metro are not selling!! I’ve seen dealerships here discounts up to $10k off !!! Msrp $65k can be had for $55k !!! Jeep’s around here are stacking up!!! I think the interest rates are scary for some people. Hopefully sells are good for you and fianance is still pretty good! The car market is slowing down this month.
Haha she likes working on the Jeep 😅 sales for us have stayed about the same still selling out of all our new cars and have noticed a small rate drop since last mont. (still high considering what we have been use to) never the less used car sales have slowed just a bit but we still can’t seem to keep any new cars. The other dealer he in Franklin TN are the same, for the most part anyway. Thanks for watching!
I think you might have just gotten stronger from your jku days. Everything I can find says the jlu and jku tops weigh the same. If I'm wrong, do you know the weight difference? Just curious, no shade intended
Hey quick question. I have a 23 rubicon jlu 3.6L with XR package. How do you think the jeep would handle your current tire set up? Also it would be best to add a 3” lift?
I think it would handle it great! I do believe ride height on yours should be the same as mine but I’m not exactly sure. It will definitely handle the tire in terms of drivetrain and powertrain. Clearance could be the only issue and that’s what easy to fix with a lift or even just aftermarket fenders.
I have a few videos from last summer going over what I had to do to mine to clear the wheels and tires. You may be able to do what I did and get away with it. Thanks for watching!
Im eyeing a 2019 Moab wrangler for mid 30s for sale with 120,000 miles. Do you think thats a great deal for it? Since the Moab is higher trim lvl than the Rubicon. And what tires size do you have? They look amazing
With that mileage there aren’t many out there to price it against. The Moab is technically just a loaded interior are rubicon exterior appearance package so it doesn’t have the same axles, gearing, lockers, etc. It should still be less than any rubicon with that mileage and leather interior. A vehicle is only ever worth what someone is willing to pay for it but with that being said I would recommend looking for one under 100k miles for that low 30s price. They are out there just have to do some digging! Thanks for watching!
@@GodspeedZRZ yea I did more research on the Moab it doesn't really have the off road capabilitys as the Rubicon. So I'll just look for a good unlimited Rubicon JL under 100k miles. So far they are priced pretty high 40k hopefully I can find one in the 30s. Appreciate the advice and information thanks brother!
My 2012 JKUR was absolutely fantastic with zero issues until my son swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and took out 3 trees, through a ditch and totaled it. He walked away (Praise God), called me crying that I was going to be so upset it was destroyed. Jeep did it's job... and now I'm shopping a JL (agree with the point of this vid). I'd have zero issue buying a 2012 again though!
128k miles on my wifes 2014 manual sahara 2 door. Not a single issue other than a fuel injector replacement at 105k. No rust, original suspension, engine, and trans. Interior has virtually no wear. I have a 2015 with only 35k (finally convinced an elderly couple to part with theirs) and her 2014 with many more miles feels just as young.

I traded a JL in on a JK with $14,000 miles. I did it because of the stop start dual battery problems, leaking axles, and corrosion issues on the JL.
I don’t blame you on that, if I had issues like that it would definitely make me reconsider!
