- In this video I discuss the pro's and con's of purchasing the various generations of Jeep Wranglers to include the TJ, JK, and JL. If you're in the market for a used jeep, this will be a great video to watch.

The AMC 4.0 was an I-6, not a V6. Inline engines develop torque at very low RPMs, normally aspirated V6 engines typically don't. If you compare the 2 with comparable transmission gearing and the same rear axle ratio, the difference is very noticeable.
Thanks for the clarification. I drove a number of TJ's with the 4.0 and they all had a difficult time getting up to freeway speeds. And they were loud. They are an incredibly durable engine though.
Just bought a 2018 JL Sahara with the 6 cylinder. Very happy with it. I wanted the JL refinements, plus having the Auto setting on the transfer case makes this a lot better behaved as a daily driver in the Wisconsin winters. Thanks for your video and good luck on your search!
That's a really good point. Lots of improvement in the JL.. I think even more than I originally mentioned. Lots of safety features, that auto setting for part time 4WD, and with the tow package both the 4 and 7 pin connectors and the auxilary switches. If I can find a decently priced JL.. as well as the 3.6 engine improvement and 8 speed auto. that's what I may end up getting.

The TJ isn't great for an only vehicle, it's more of an RV imo. I've own mine (97) 26 years and it's still going strong.
I have more comfortable SUV's (Subaru / Nissan ) but my 97 Sahara and 2005 LJ Rubicon are just plan and simple open air fun.
I certainly wouldn't mind having an LJ !! Very unique.
At 4:30 you say the TJ went from a 4.0 V-6 to a 3.8 V-6, the TJ had a Straight Six.

I have a 2-door 2007 sahara jeep wrangler. Is this a JK? You only mentioned the 4 door. Were the 2 doors built differently from the 4 door in that period. Are the 2-door consistent with the same plus and minus as the 4 doors of the JK?
Yep, 2007's are JK's. 2 doors and 4 doors have the same engine and I guess are built similarly, although the 4 door has the longer wheel base.
Where are these 6k to 10k Tj’s?
They are for sure out there, but getting one in good shape without rust on the frame is another story.
@@charlesedwards4169 I gave in, and bought a 2005 TJ/LJ Rubicon AZ, CA jeep 2 months ago for 20k. Great interior and exterior 103k miles and 0 regets.

I was actually looking for a regular LJ to slightly mod.
JL is a joke. Paint/corrosion issues,faulty chassis welds, common to have infotainment problems/freezing. FAD looks like it would weaken front axle housing. TJ is terrible on gas my 04 rubi 5spd gets 12.9mpg, bad for rusting out if exposed to salt. JK has some electrical issues like the JL, both of them have the 3.6 rocker arms that wear out and destroy cams to best of my knowledge. I have had 2 TJ's and they are great but they are getting old, if you are looking at one with any rust, especially in a salted roads in winter state, I would pass. The TJ frames rot out from the inside, and same with body. Have seen multiple rotted out TJ frames and tubs, 0 JK's, and the JK is way more common in my region. I think the JK is best value for most people. I would love a 2.0 turbo engine, 8speed auto or 6spd manual, tj body, on jk frame suspension and axles!
Yeah, all the platforms have some issues. I got the JL, and so far am happy with it. No corrosion, the Turbo engine is torquey and love the 8 speed. A lot of the electrical issues come down to the auxilary battery unfortunately. The stop/start system and the auxilary battery was a real genius of an idea.
