I love Mantis. The movie version was nice but I love this version more. I always liked the idea of a future seer who has maybe gone a little insane from the multiple timelines they've seen but they still try to help the heroes, even if they don't always make sense. Also, I love how at one point she basically says in the nicest way possible, "Can it, Adam. This whole thing is 90% your fault. Now, FIX IT."
Let's face it. If you ask the general Marvel audience which Mantis they'll prefer more, they'll choose the movie version purely because of jokes and pop culture references. A lot of her air headedness is actually what's called (iirc) 'shape shifting or shape changing' where the child of an abusive parent attempts to discern what will please them from moment to moment and assume that behavior. Which is why, for instance, she laughs along with and agrees with Draxx so much. That's literally how she has learned to behave. I agree she wasn't a stand alone character in that appearance, but she wasn't meant to be. Then again, AFAIK the Guardians have a LOT of different personalities in their different incarnations.
The voice acting and motion capture for both the face and body are so fucking well done. It's incredible that I don't sense any uncanny valley whatsoever. This game actually looks awesome.

This version is far better than in the movies, I haven’t read the guardians of the galaxy comics, but I’ve heard she was also well written there too. Being incredibly naive is far worse of a character than a character that’s ditzy but also wise.
I love how this Mantis is a perfect mixtute between the Comic Mantis and the MCU Mantis. She's a fair ditzy like her MCU counterpart and has human-colored skin, but she is not overly naive. In fact, she's ditzy from the fact that she sees so many timelines where she isn't sure which one she'll be in. She has a great reason for being who she is. But like her Comic counterpart, she's a skilled badass who isn't just smart, but also reliable and capable on her own.

Part of the problem is both Drax and Mantis both play the dumb guy role most of the time on top of Quill also suppose to be kind of dumb, they all kind of fit the same role
This Mantis is more in line with her comics counterpart, telepathically powerful and and seeing different possibilities of the future A straight martial artist as well and a powerful empathic user as she should be.
Man they really dumbed down Mantis in the movies. I legit only thought Mantis was just a walking sleeping pill until I played this game and read more on her in her comics wiki. She really gives off that Luna Lovegood plus Jessica Day personality, just a bit crazier
Honestly they fixed her in the MCU and this version kind of melded them together. While Mantis' comic counterpart might seem stronger, the audience hated her. She was very much an all-powerful Mary-Sue with a totally different personality that was shoved into every comic book and conflict there was at the time. She was even written into comics that weren't MC related, which is a whole different bag of worms. Because she was so shoe-horned and powerful (not to mention unlikable), her public reception was terrible. The MCU may have nerfed her, but they changed her public reception and made way for her to be included in more media and iterations with a personality people actually like.
The thought of Mantis being with Gamora and/or Star-Lord brings me no end of amusement. The tough slightly serious Gamora and the lighthearted mysterious Mantis, facing alien villains as assassin wives! I'd watch a What If episode of that.
Fun fact: in the comics, she was a fighter FIRST and an empath with precognitive powers second. So her kicking ass here sort of comes from that origin. She was also human before the alien appearance (as the Celestial Madonna, she was destined to be with some sort of alien plant deity, and having his baby turned her body part-alien).

Smart thing they made good with Hellbender and also killed off basically all the Wendigo... Having an earth invasion would be a hell of a challenge for the guardians let alone any earthbound teams.
Since the timelines in the MCU now branch into infinite possibilities, we could definitely see a version of this kind of Mantis where she starts to see the timelines that have branched from the sacred timeline
This is just a guess but I think that in this she is able to see alternate timelines but cant control which one she sees or she is omnipotent and is in all timelines at the same time
