PROGRAM NOTES
"Khamsin" (2018) is written for 2 percussionists on one marimba (5 octaves) with 3 sets of castanets. Khamsin is a southerly wind carrying sand from the desert of Egypt. The Khamsin gives the sky a dark orange hue. The air is charged with dust which makes the breathing oppressive. The wind blows on several days on a regular basis. I'm happy to compose for Quey Percussion Duo, a great and talented duo, for which I have a lot respect and friendship.

I don’t understand how people can split this well. You’re an inspiration.
Not just the splits, but a controlled accelerando of splits! Wowee!
I saw these guys at P.F. Chang's last night. They asked for two sets of chopsticks each but only one bowl of rice to share.
This is one of the funniest things I've read this month
I absolutely cant figure out which part I like the most because every part of this is glorious.
My favourite might be 4:06
Amazing guys! Can't wait to see you live in Perth soon :)
Oh wow, YES!! Looking forward to seeing you, we can't wait for that trip!

the percussion MASTERS have struck again!!
On top of this being an amazing performance, it's really cool to hear two of my favorite pieces--Octabones and Jose before John 5--so clearly referenced.
Can't stop watching your videos. Absolutely love your stuff, Gene.
Thanks so much, really appreciate it!!
I can't believe it has taken me this long to find this video. I love these performance videos. You and Tim have some of the best splits I've ever seen in my life. Keep up these awesome videos.
Just stop, guys!! You're too slick!! Really CONGRATS! Great work as usual!
Thanks man!
I swear you guys are fun to watch. Much love and appreciation for your performances.

Welp, add this to the bucket list.
Hi! It's Janet from Danmar. So glad the castanets worked out for you. Sounds great! You make it look easy but I know that it is far from easy. I'm a fan.
Hi Janet - yes, they're great, thanks again for everything!!
Which Danmar castanets did you use, and what did you use to mount them? Thank you in advance! Sounded amazing!
Cure
Erstklassig !!
Sur la fin du morceau je vois des Samourai courir ..très réussie cette performance
I just discovered you two and I'm taking all this in, it's incredible! Wish I knew last year when you guys were in Australia, do you think you will be coming back?
Hmmmmmm, name of the piece is "50", ehhh????? Well, I love it!!!!
Is similar to Aurél Holló: José / beFORe JOHN5 for me

What are you using to mount the castanet machines? Going to be attempting this piece and I love the setup you're using!
Those are custom made. We recommend these: tocapercussion.com/products/sound-effects/castanet-machine/
We tour with this version since it's easy to travel with and still sound good for the piece.
@@genekoshinskimusic Sounds great, Thank you so much!
Sweet.
Was this named after the *Maserati Khamsin* ? 😁
No, Emmanuel wrote it about the "Khamsin" (hot wind seen that comes in the desert)
@@genekoshinskimusic Well, if I ever own a Maserati Khamsin, I'm going to record a tape of this and crank the stereo when I go for a drive!
Deal! haha
@@genekoshinskimusic Are you one of the two players? If so, nice job. That's heavy stuff.
PS: I knew what "Khamsin" was, although I admit that I learned about it from the car name.
@@TheMICMusicInspirationChannel yep, that's me in the coat... ;)
XD I like how there isn't a single comment about the--- Wait are we not supposed to mention it?
VVill - what?
Is one of them actually playing from the other side of the marimba? Is that difficult to learn?
I didn’t know it was allowed for a cross grip and an independent grip player to play together.
Ok now just go step by step on how you hit the mallet 😂😂😂😂
What mallets are y’all using ?

Thanks so much!!
This sounds very persian vs any of the other middle eastern melodies. Is it persian?
Sorry, my phone keeps ringing!
How Djent is made
