- Installation of a new Kenwood DMX908S head unit with iDatalink MFT1 and Maestro RR in a 2015 Ford F-150.
This upgrade allows for Apple CarPlay finally!
This was my first time installing a car stereo. I made mistakes along the way, but I learned and got it to work!
Thanks for posting this up. I now understand what the idatalink maestro does. It connects the headunit to the cars canbus, or whatever they are calling the latest communication protocols. very cool
Does your large volume button and temp control button still work with the Kenwood Excelon DMX809S

Question for ya Android car play does it drop signal while using it and have you use the mirroring on it? I'm thinking about getting one tomorrow like yours! looks very nice!
I have an Apple phone, so haven’t been able to test mirroring (only Android).
It hasn’t dropped signal while driving at all, but there were times in the first few months I had it that it wouldn’t connect to phone when starting truck. I’d have to disconnect the Bluetooth and reconnect to get it… but I think I’ve figured out that happens when I’m doing stuff on my phone when I start the truck… if I don’t touch my phone when I start the truck, it seems to connect just fine.

I was hoping to hear good news about it I have a Toyota Highlander 2013 I was gong with the Kenwood dmx9708s and notice looking at video about the DMX 908s HD and 2 year warranty the other had only 1 year and no HD radio. Thanks again your the best!!! Cant wait to get mines tomorrow lol!
I'm curious to know about climate controls such as the heated seats. Did you lose that functionality?
It still works just fine. But, my heated seats were never controlled through the touch screen with the factory unit.
Does it have navigation
Not built in. I use Apple CarPlay for Waze with it though.
