Lmbo, I posted mine yesterday using that ab crunch, I didn't think I'd love this figure that much but after the posing I can't get enough of it, this figure is phenomenal
This figure gave me all the feels. I grew up in the Beast era, so I don't have quite the same nostalgic connection to G1 - with the exception of Perceptor. He was the one G1 toy I had, I found him at a flea market with my grandma. I didn't even know his name but I was fascinated by him, he was this mysterious source of power and enlightenment in my Beast Wars universe (kind of like Prime and the Ark were on the show). So it was a tremendous feeling to unbox him and feel that weight, and put that G1 toy helmet on him, and get back that childlike sense of amazement I had when I first discovered him.
I don't know why they didn't just make the little red tab piece be a part of the waist instead of something that folds out over it. Just make it a molded detail so it doesn't affect ab crunch or waist swivel. Unless it's been addressed in transformation or something, I usually gloss over those parts lol. Aside from that, this figure looks like a fun toy. It's just not $230 worth. I personally think it needs to cap out at $170 or maybe $175. I can deal with XTB's shortcomings to save that extra $100.
I actually like the more matte blue on this - it makes the red pop even more. It's the complementary color, not the star. All shiny metallic might have been too much.
Yikes 😬 Cool as the figure looks it makes me shiver every time I hear all that paint rubbing against itself. I imagine there'll be a few flakes on my fingertips after a couple transformations
Very good TF action figure, XTB gets the price and the accessories but FT gets the build and proportions, in the end I prefer the FT one. I agree that Fans Toys transformations are better then they used to be, they are more enjoyable and easy to flip back and forth but the articulation can still see some improvement. Don't get me wrong, this time they only missed the double joints in the elbows (I now that as it is it can bend more then 90º but it could've bent all the way if it was a double joint) and the butterfly joints in the shoulders but I think the simple alt mode helped them achieve better articulation without having to invest in engineering. I agree with your assessment Mr. Skullface and I can't wait for the comparison, thanks for the review.
Looks good (except the colors are off) but 200 bucks is too much for this. The engineering for a perceptor in general isnt that complicated. So where did the money go? Also i know the xtb has issues but it looks even better imo.
The money went to the brands name. That’s really it. Unfortunately that’s how a lot of businesses work. They found their fan base. And it’s working for them.
Just looking at this individual video and my personal experience with the XTB I think XTB is more toon accurate, but I like the paint of the FT and FT is cleaner. I think the FT has a sllightly better transformation, but it's hard to say having not handled the FT. And it seems like the FT may have better materials and build quality. I'm really curious to see the VS.
Damn, he creaks a lot. Though, from my Spindrift and Acoustic Wave, I know this is not a sign of lack of quality. I have no idea what kind of vibranium Fans Toys makes their stuff out of.
I ordered the Xtransbots one and now I'm thinking about selling it, when it arrives, and buying this one. I had a black Perceptor when I was a kid, I bought it at some import hobby store in Asbury Park. So, I'd love to see a repaint of this bad boy.
@@nighttrain357 Yep those were cool. I'd rather have had a G1 toy head option though. Also gotta wonder how much closer they could've gotten to the 100$ mark without those mini figs?
@@GibDozer1 Since I have the G1 toy and I'm getting the Studio Series version I put the IDW head on mine. Love it. That way I'll have three different Perceptor's with their own flavor! I'm even thinking about getting a Legends Perceptor just to have a small magnifying glass! lol
I still like Tesla 1.0, but I do like that 2.0 did address my one big complaint. In alt mode the arms collapsing to hide the biceps and elbows is a definite improvement. I do wish you could still move the microscope to either shoulder like 1.0 could.
Bobby - he has an absolutely great “ab crunch” or waist bend. Moving the stomach piece a bit let’s him bend nearly 90°. Also, his sniper rifle barrel extends. You’re my favorite reviewer Mack, get it together )
Great Review as usual Bobby...Hhmm, having both (in hand), FTs is the Clear winner. Visually and Identifyably XTB actually wins oddly... Chunkier looks, Redder Reds, Longer Face and is Tooner. FTs is Built better, Engineering Better and Feels better. This Battle comes down to Price and at about 2x the Price FTs loses here. So the Conclusion is that FTs is Out Doing TT in Build and Price, while XTB is Out Doing FTs in Skulp and Accessibility...Different Strokes for Different Folks. With that said XTB did a Great job and Priced right, XTB for the win...if only by an inch.
I saw another reviewer bend the knee to get that larger tab into position for the microscope/tank mode then straighten the leg to lock it in. It looked much easier that way. still waiting for my copy to arrive/get shipped.
Figure is too deep red for my taste. Janssen looks more finetuned en cleaner. Happy with my XTB and glad i passed on the FT. Good review and love your chanel
I don’t own either figure but nothing about the two really blows me away from what I just seen. Fts paint is always nice and build quality appears to be what we’re used to when we get a fts figure but xtbs sculpt seems to be better in my opinion and price point is definitely a lot better in my opinion
what of you heat up the joints prior to manipulation? will that create smoother joint action and change your… perception, of the tight joints out the box?
Good review. Looking forward to the versus. I had some yikes and uh..is he going to break it moments while you transformed him. Glad he held up under pressure....lol. Should get mine on Monday. I had Tesla 1.0 and I've been looking forward to this guy ever since I sold my old one off. I have seen him compared next to XTB version and he looks dark compared to theirs and I'm not sure which one is more accurate in that case. I agree with the headsculpt I feel XTB did a better job on their versions sculpt which means someone will make a 4th party head sculpt to update this guy if there is enough people saying the same thing. I was curious if the Microscope actually works like the G1 version, of if it just goes in and out and that's it. Again looking forward to the Versus. If you still have the 1.0 would be curious is comparisons over that one as an OG versus to see how much FT improved over the original design. Enjoyed you take on it as always.
The GIANT difference between this and Xtb I had both . Is the build of FT just taking it out the box it's well built brick!! The materials of Ft is what sets them apart from everyone. Just do the shake test with both you'll know what I mean. Lol
This is going to be tough to choose between xtb... leaning towards this one. I think it'll be dependent how much the oversized helmet head bugs me :P Cant wait to see the vs! I wonder if the head will swap between Tesla 1 and 2?
Personally, the IDW helmet option is most of what sold me on this release. I quite like Perceptor, but absolutely hate his G1 look, and that's what put me off 1.0 so much. For years, my absolute favorite version was Planet X's FoC Perceptor, so with the IDW helmet, this guy looks like he'll make a really close second behind him for me.
The XTB also has the IDW helmet option. I think if you want a toon style w/IDW head I'd go XTB. If you want a toonish w/a little toy flair and w/IDW head go FT.
I dont really hate the g1 look but i very much prefer the IDW look. Im disappointed there isnt a good IDW perceptor but i appreciate how XTB and FT include these IDW headsculps
Great review. I think I'm going to pass on Timmy 10 heads. Just going to stick with my original Tesla. I don't feel like any of the new stuff is worth $200 to replace what I have. If I didn't have the original Tesla I might get this one. But as it stands, from my perspective, both new ones just seems like a side step
It looks great, I went with the xtb offering. Honestly I think both look great. The thighs are clearly better on this one. But both offerings are winners in my book.
It's funny how Americans are already getting him and I'm yet to even get an invoice. Not that I mind waiting, since it's pricy. I'm just not a fan of how FansToys do business. The figure seems pretty good overall though, and I'm definitely looking forward to it. I'm in the minority but I like Perceptor and I think this does a better job than the X-Transbots version.
Depends on where you buy him from. If you bought from a Chinese seller they are on CNY and stopped all shipping. FT sent out US sellers shipments before CNY. I bought mine from ShowZ, so I have to wait till after CNY for them to ship.
While I think they did a great job on the IDW head sculpts, I don’t think either of these companies should have done a tank mode and accessories associated with that character. The IDW character design is way different. Sleeker and more stylized. Slapping a head sculpt on this G1 design doesn’t suddenly make it IDW. That being said, I don’t think forcing in a tank mode was worth it at all.
I think you get what you pay for here, especially with materials, but I'm not sure it's really worth that to pay so much here, either. The head sculpt also looks off, FT still needs a better head guy.
Great video. Thanks! Regarding the differences with XTB, I’m torn on the appearance because both do certain things better than the other. That said, I view the XTB like it’s made of glass and I’m afraid to even articulate it for fear of breakage. No such concerns with FT.
In my personal experience I consistantly experience more breakage with FT than XTB. 29% of my FT figures have broken, while only 10.81% of my XTB have broken. While FT figures feel sturdy they have one of the highest breakage % of all companies in my collection.
I actually like the faces and heads on this figure over all the other (Masterpiece-style) options, but the cartoon faces are probably not the most accurate, even though I prefer them over Janssen's.
*****************There is an ab crunch i missed as well by the way*****************
Lmbo, I posted mine yesterday using that ab crunch, I didn't think I'd love this figure that much but after the posing I can't get enough of it, this figure is phenomenal
Ha! Yeah… I was just about to say! 😂
You can also extend the gun to make it more of a proper sniper rifle.
Yeah there is
There is the Apple Watch is a couple of things you’re missing on their

Thanks for the review. I'm quite happy with mine. Very solid, hefty feeling figure. Looking forward to the vs.
Great review as always
I saw from other reviews. Tesla v2 has an ab crunch... through disengaging the square piece in the stomach section.
Yikes 😬
Cool as the figure looks it makes me shiver every time I hear all that paint rubbing against itself. I imagine there'll be a few flakes on my fingertips after a couple transformations
The gun barrel can extend as well as the scope can be remove

That's another interesting transformation for the upper body, I'm liking this. Won't be getting mine till after CNY sadly.

The translucent chest and toy head option are enough for me to give this the nod over XTB.

So far not one reviewer notice that the red gun can extend for sniper mode
Maybe you haven't watched all the reviews because most I've seen so far noticed it. Check out Paik4kife review.
