I got both. I’m in love with this one and the XTB. FT is built far better as they nailed their diecast disbursement. XTB just throws diecast in everywhere. But I do like the XTB sculpt work but I like the FT proportions. Overall I think FT wins but it’s a win win for the consumer either way.
I agree both have their merits especially factoring in price and extras. Also the different takes on colors and sculpt make it a nice for people with differing opinions on how Perceptor should look. I don’t consider either of them perfect nor a failure.
I bought both the XTB and the FT Perceptor but I still don't have either of them in hand. From what I saw in the reviews I watched I prefer FT-46 and the only category where the XTB wins is the price point. I may end up selling my XTB since I only need one in MP scale for my G1 MP display and I'm not even going to transform it so I'm sure nothing is broken or scratched before I sell it. FT-46 could have used a different solution for the waist swivel, ab crunch and the shoulders. Fans Toys keep dropping the ball when it comes to articulation, for the price they charge articulation should be top notch and it never is. Other then that this figure is great. Sorry for missing the stream and thanks for the review Paik.
Nice, I finally see what the final figure looks like. I wonder if this means that it has already been released. Anyway, one thing I am disappointed in this figure is how dark the red parts look. When I saw some promotional photographs of it, the red was just as bright as the red on Janssen looks in this video. The red in Perceptor's body seems kind of dark, too, but it is still more pure red than the crimson shade that this video shows on Tesla. On the other hand, one other colour choice seems to have been changed as well, namely, the shade of the chrome parts. There were this rose gold shade in them in those promotional photos, but as seen in this video, that has been replaced with more silver grey colour. So, yay for a change for the better. I was also afraid that in order to use the waist swivel, one would need to un-tab and turn that silver square piece to a 45 degree angle. Fortunately that is not the case, so, yay for the waist swivel that can be turned without having to break the sculpt. I like this figure's proportions and especially the head. It is bigger and the cartoon face clearly resembles more Perceptor's face in the cartoon than Janssen's. I can hardly wait to finally get mine.
Nice review. I pre-ordered both. I like the way X-transbots looks in robot mode, but FTs is more solid. Maybe I'll have Tesla 2.0 in microscope mode. I don't ever transform my figures much anyway. They both are good figures in my opinion
I felt the same way about Janssen too. I still think I slightly prefer his robot mode but Tesla just feels more solid overall. I’m sure you’ll be happy with either or both!

Regarding IDW head sculpt, I always saw it more like a chin guard than a goatee, since it is square and pronounced like the Egyptians used in the past. Tesla looks great, I personally love the darker colour it also has a lovely shine to it aswell which stands out to me as a premium paint job, alongside the die-cast, although I prefer the blue on Janssen. I think I’ll use the plain red chest plate myself. FT really do have a knack of engineering highlighted by how they’ve done the legs, over engineered maybe but it does a lot and secures in place more effectively than Janssen. They’ve definitely overdone it with the heads I don’t think they needed to do include so many versions to compete with XTB. He is definitely one of my most anticipated FT releases this year alongside Chomp as I never had their first release. Just have to wait until China reopens for it to ship. Great review as always, with additional transformation tips and tricks.

XTB Jansen is the first Masterpiece Transformer I've broken in about 2 decades of collecting. He has some VERY flimsy parts especially at the shoulders where mine broke. Hopefully Tesla 2.0 will be better built.
That is terrible news. I know fills reporters breakages on the legs a lot but I haven’t heard much on the arms. I’m not really surprised though because of the arm transformation. Tesla is very similar on that part.
Great review. I am on the fence for perceptor. I honestly don't care for the character at all...I am not going to get every character of it there so I am struggling to get a perceptor at all in my collection. If I were.. Id go for xtransbots cause of the price difference. I would just take him out and pose him and that's it...wouldn't care about transforming him to microscope as well cause don't care about it..
Oh man… I really wanted to like this and was waiting for it, but I’m really not digging it’s darker color. Proportions are great, but it’s just so dark. Also that price tag is WOW. Jensen might be the one for me.
Just remember that the crappy RUclips app doesn’t let me adjust for lighting corrections and is low res (720p). Don’t get me wrong it is dark especially compared to XTB, but it’s not SUPER dark as it sometimes appears. I would wait to see some other reviewers. I think XTB is maybe a little orange as well.
I think Tesla 2.0 is a better figure, but I just don't like Preceptor enough to pay that much. I also don't care about either alt mode. I have owned Tesla 1.0 since it came out and have never felt the need to see the alt mode. I transform most of my figures, but sometimes it just is not worth it. This will be one of the very few FTs I will not be purchasing. Thanks for the advanced look Paik.

No one seems to talk about the microscope function on the fanstoys and xtransbots. Fantoys functions like the G1 toy and xtransbots functions like the G1 cartoon.
@@Paik4Life Just look for a video of the G1 toy review and you will see the silver tube moves like the fans toys. The xtransbots functions like the G1 cartoon with the body tube being the one that moves in and out.
One thing on the price difference between XTB and FT that I've realized recently is that XTB can charge less because they have a number of repaints that they expect to help offset mold costs. I expect at least a black Magnificus repaint and a 'Youth' toy version, but they might also do a white 'Surgeon' version like they did with their Mugen version or a premium paint version. FT on the other hand probably won't do any repaints on Tesla 2.0.
That’s always a consideration and definitely should play a factor when producing a mold BUT my argument against that for FT is 1) they do recolor quite often just not ones that require mold changes 2) XTB recolors are usually the same price or cheaper than the original release even though they incur extra costs like mold, paint, art, etc 3) FT frequently does straight reissues and lately reissues INCREASE in price when no additional costs are incurred like mold, paint, art. If FT was factoring the low volume into their costs, that’s fine logic to me but the way they handle recolors and reissue pricing doesn’t make sense to me especially compared to other companies.
@@Paik4Life FT does not do recolors very often at all. They did early on with Quakewave and their Dinobots, but since then they have been quite limited. If we exclude those early projects (honestly I don't think FT wanted to do the repaints by the time they got to Grinder but finished the sets) they have 5 figures with any type of repaint across around 35 figures. Bombshell had two chest colors released simultaneously (actually came out before their last two Dinobots I believe so could potentially be excluded for post-Dinobot repaints). Galvatron and Cyclonus got repaints due to clearly different depictions in the cartoon. Their 2 largest (so far) figures each got a repaint in Terminus Guardian and Phoenix X (plus the weird translucent one for someone specific). That is the complete list, I won't bother with the other 30 or so figures with none. If the XTB's repaints are factored into the original pricing decision then it makes sense for them to be similarly priced if XTB is trying to hold down the price on the original release because that would shift cost to the repaints. I would think they know the added cost of the new parts going in and factored it in from the beginning, but I admit I might be wrong on that part. I am aware of FT increasing the price on recent reissues, but saying there is no additional cost is incorrect (though I agree not enough for all of the increase). At minimum there is a significantly higher cost to ship things. I believe I heard that cost alone had tripled, and that was several months ago and could be higher by now. This next part is purely speculation, but just based on what I've seen in the news I expect factory time prices have gone up significantly as well. With repeated Covid shutdowns plus incidents of the Chinese Gov't rationing electricity would have caused backlogs and also reduced the factory's capacity to work through that. XTB has controlled their price increases better than FT has, but their prices have gone up on reissues as well (Aegis, Paean, Andras and Sweeps). I keep hearing Keith has his own factory, I have no idea if that is actually true or not, but it would allow him to control costs better. There were rumors of FT getting their own factory, but I've also seen those rumors refuted, which I've never seen with Keith. I do have one more thought on the increased FT prices, but I'll wait to see how it plays out before posting it. Way too much unknown on it.

As for factory labor, rising labor cost is a constant across all companies, why is FT the one that increases their pricing above their original release? Regardless of whether they have their own factory or not, the delta between prices of original and reissue is an FT standard that we don’t see with other companies (many who don’t have their own factory either). This all said, many of your arguments DO/COULD explain why there is a price disparity in base releases. Honestly I think their prices come heavily just from material and labor costs behind their obviously superior overall build quality. I think their paint has become my favorite aspect of FT. When you can release something and there is a debate on whether it is painted or bare plastic, you’re doing something incredible with paint! The other random thing I’ve noticed is the small thoughtfulness of edges in FT. You can see and more importantly FEEL the subtle rounded off edges on parts that make them feel nicer especially when transforming. Okay this comment is getting too long!

For IDW heads/faces, I like the funnier/more expressive ones from FT, but I think the monocle/scouter details on XTB look better.
I'm sorry to all the FT fanboys, but I just think Jansen looks waaaay better. FT is made better, but I don't see $90 better. Just MHO.
No offense taken here. I’ve been saying similar things to a lot of FT releases and basically said the same here.
Trust me, us Fanstoys fanboys could care less if you like it or not. As a matter of fact, we’re happy for all of the haters, as it’s just more available for those that appreciate the workmanship that goes into their designs and build quality. As far as price goes, perhaps you’re just not used to the best things money can buy. You’re a “budget” guy, and that’s ok too. 😁

Regarding your comment though, it always surprises me to see/hear so called collectors complaining about the price of a premium collectible. I mean aren’t the better things supposed to cost more? Who exactly decides what a “fair” price is? You? Paike? Who? Maybe, the price IS fair. Perhaps Fanstoys saw the secondary market craziness from late 2020 into 2021 and decided they should benefit from their good name more so than someone smart enough to acquire multiple preorders and making a small fortune from them reselling. I don’t know, nor do I care. I support them 100%. I will buy all of their products, because I believe them to be the absolute best. The awesome thing is, I know I’m not alone in that sentiment, otherwise their Preorders wouldn’t still be selling out. You Fanstoys haters can go on and on about how they’re not $90 better, but $$$ talks and bullshit walks. Seems the competition is doing an awful lot of walking.
