Another fantastic video. I love the florals, but do also enjoy when you mix it up a bit. The first painting with the stick colors is super cool 😊 Heading off to fill up my water glasses and get my #16 Princeton brush now.
You couldn't have broken it down anymore and made it more simpler! Great job. Just takes the fear out of putting paint on paper. What a boon for beginners!!! Thank you.
I’ve just been watching a bunch of video on how to paint other people’s stuff. I didn’t realize how much that was paralyzing me until I watched this. The patterns are so incredibly simple yet SO helpful because you don’t stress about technique yet the color theory aspect of it is a fantastic exercise. Thank you for this.
As a total beginner I originally found your channel through your florals but I have since found myself drawn to landscapes, so I will say that is my favourite.....but I also really likes the effect of the straight lines.
Thank you again for another great video. I’m up in Washington state and as an empath I’m feeling overwhelmed / zapped with the concerns about corona virus here. The patterns have been a joy to paint today. An easy, peaceful process.
Hey Christine! I’m glad this vid brought you peace. Also, w all the virus stuff going around, this podcast episode brought me a lot of peace. I highly recommend giving it a listen if you want some added help and comfort for this whole situation: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rhythms-for-life/id1477541494?i=1000466993877
Guten Tag, Jenna! I painted this landscape picture this week, as part of your weekly learning goal. A week ago, I had never waterpainted a landscape picture. I have a long way to go, all uphill. But I learned a lot this week. Viele Danke. This is my Sunday progress report for July 12, 21.
My favourite is the tulip idea. I'm usually focus in on the details, so suggestions like this help me to loosen up. I've bookmarked the post to watch again later with my 9yo who loves watercolours.
Each painting is so unique! I think I like the flowers best. It reminds me of driving on the 15 last year and seeing all the gorgeous wild California poppies throughout the hills. So breathtaking. Everyone was stopping to enjoy the beauty. Your flowers brought me back to that drive! Thank you!! 💐💐💐
Hi jenna , as a beginner using watercolour , i loved all three painting ideas , love trying wet in wet painting , its just magical, havent a clue about what colours go together and what does not, but im learning from watching your work, thank you for sharing
Doing the patterns helped me relax about choosing and mixing colors, and getting the right amount of water for a soft bleed. When it came to the flower-Omg on the leaves! Flat and clunky! But I was determined to make some decent ones. All it took was some patience. The result was perfect delicate stems and leaves that came to a point! Now the landscape... Thank you so much for making these lessons easy and fun.
Art makes the world go ‘round. 😏🥳😁 My favorite is the flowers and the simplicity demanded of the creation. Though it calls for simplicity that in itself makes it complex and fun! I love it.
It is so very satisfying to see you painting those patterns. My favorite (and I saw it before on Instagram, couldn't stop watching) is the swatching, all those colours next to eachother bleading, leaning against eachother and making alternating patterns, hmmm. Lovely. Makes me feel peaceful.
My favorite is the flowers “simplicity “. I’m excited to try this technique to make some cards. And thank you for the tips on what angle to hold your brush. I just started watercoloring about 2 months ago and love how you explain techniques, color, size of brushes to achieve your “vision “. Especially the encouragement to “relax” and don’t over think🤗. Thank you😎.
My favorite painting ideas are the ones that are simple to follow but allow you to understand watercolor techniques. I am really new to painting and a glazing video helped me a ton as well as a wet-on-wet showcasing blending was great. All your botanicals have been so helpful in composition and appreciating the magic of bleeding too!
I love the idea of warming up with the upside down u's. I'm going to try it because I think it would be meditative and a wonderful way to explore color and the unique behavior(s) of each pigment. Thank you!
Hi jenna! I used to think watercolors are hard to control .. dreaded them for a long time...but your depth of the subject has made me realise that it’s the beauty of watercolors that they flow and interact and bring out such brilliant outcomes... i love those swatches that bleed mix and bring out a plethora of colors... thanks and keep being the light to us !
KATIE! I have wonderful news! You have been randomly selected as one of our two winners! Please email hello@jennarainey.com to let us know where to send the signed copy of my Everyday Watercolor book. Congrats!!
Hey jenna, I just love painting PERIOD! I love painting flowers, leaves, and different shapes. It's a tradition for me now every time you post a new video I sit, paint and just relax. I have a son, who is eight months old now and painting really helped me overcome my postpartum depression. Thank you ssoo much for putting these videos out it has really helped me take a little time out of each week for myself. Keep up the great work and I cant wait for the next!! (Also... maybe you could start putting out two videos a week... so I have another reason to take some personal time? ;)
I am SO happy to read this, Ashley, and that you're loving the channel!! Thanks for your support! And two videos a week, we try and do that sometimes, it can be tough with how busy we can get with family and work, but we'll do our best to get you as much personal time as possible!! ❤️
I love the look of the lines. The colors are so juicy and the way they lean on one another and share color where they connect inspires me to think about how I connect with other people. Thanks for this video. 😊
My favourite was the pattern painting, because all of the vibrant colours, although I love all three! Jenna, thank you for sharing your talent, inspiration and encouragement. Your videos have motivated me to continue on my journey into this wonderful world of watercolour. I would LOVE to win one of your books!
I loved the tulip tutorial because I struggle with those, but my heart is with the landscape painting! I love to paint the ocean 😍! I would love to see more of your approach to seascapes!
I've already bought your books Jenna, I just wanted to say that your lessons on color theory in your books and on your videos is outstanding! We would literally have to go to school to learn this.
I am a complete newbie to watercolor and I Love the way you explain things in your videos. Thank you I am looking forward to learning watercolor painting as I go through my chemotherapy and radiation. So excited to start this journey with you!
Oh be well, Elizabeth!!! I am very excited for you to journey with me with watercolor, and I hope these videos bring you some peace and comfort! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Jenna! My favorite idea is the abstract shapes. I am able to let my mind wander more and just play with the colors without feeling pressure about the painting. These are great exercises to get out of a creative funk. Thank you for sharing these with us! :)
I really liked the patterns. I think non-figurative painting exercises remind me that it's not about creating masterpieces straight away but about enjoying the process :-)
I love the upside down U/swatch patterns. They're so easy to make, and turn out so beautiful! They helped me out of a painting rut and with anxiety! Thank you!
Goodness! The last example of the water, sky, and mountain was so fun to watch! I am going to give this a go tomorrow. Thanks so much yet again for your clear and fun to watch lessons. I am loving them so much!
It's amazing , I just love the way you take a reasonably simple painting and make it look so exciting in the landscape! I like the crooked bars the best because the bleeds can go in more than one direction. Thank you for these great practice ideas!!!!
I also have both of your books. I am going to try your seascape. I never thought to do the sky last, after painting the land, sea and shore. Brilliant! Thank you Jenna.
I really love the florals. It resonates with me being a plant lover. For a while I was fixated on loose florals but this exercise breaks down the process to me. Great video as usual.
The repetitive nature of the patterns definitely makes them the most meditative... I realised that a pattern does not have to be complicated, the most basic shapes paired with interesting colour combinations and some bleeds make for such pleasing visual experiences. Such a great idea to get out if a funk if you don't know what to paint. I usually start with a pattern and before I know it, something else blooms from there. 🌀🔸
I really liked how you explained why you put certain colors next to each other in the “U’s”. It was very insightful and I’m going to try to be more educated with my colors.
You paint in such a relaxed way, I like it. I especially enjoyed the strokes and the landscape. Thank you for this tutorial, I'll watch others from you for sure.
I like each painting for different reasons. I would have to say my favorite would be the lines touching one another. I need more practice with color theory/color blending. This is a great exercise and also looks like abstract at the same time! Being fairly new to watercolor I would love to have one of your books. I really like the way you guide and explain how watercolor and composition work together 🙂. Thank you for sharing again ❤️
Jenna I am a huge fan of yours. Your every video inspires me. All the 3 styles are just wow. But to choose one I would go with the florals. Those are mesmerizing 😍
Hi Jenna, I am an absolute beginner and love learning from you. Thank you so much for imparting your knowledge. I painted the ‘U’s and tulips. Loved what I created as a beginner and am so proud. Credit goes to you 🙌🏻
I loved the landscape. It made practice feel fun again. I've been forcing myself to learn peonies. I wish I could figure out the 'trick' to those. So I keep practicing....
Hi Jenna I love all of your videos, I am really bad at watercolor and I was happy I found your channel because now I am a bit better at watercolor thank you for all your help and keep making more videos. My favorite out of the three had to be the floral
I picked up watercolor because I wanted to learn to paint flowers but soon I was distracted by the “scapes”: landscape, seascape, cityscape 😄 In this video, I love the abstract Us and lines the best. Thank you!
My favorite was the pattern one. Ive seen your swatch pattern on another video in the background and tried it a few weeks ago. Patterns are easy but fun. It makes it less thinking and more doing!
I appreciated your tips on how to hold the round brush for creating the first U-shape pattern. I am enjoying the wet into wet technique a lot right now in my practice. It has endless possibilities for effects and color mixing.
Love all three of your ideas but if I have to choose it'll be the patterns 😁 just loving the colors bleed into each other. That's definitely what only watercolor paintings can do 😍
I love painting cactus. ❤ I love to watch your florals. I have watched that peonies video many times. I turn off the volume when watching them so they becomes more therapeutic. 😊 would love to see more florals. God bless you jenna! Good luck! 🤗
I've got to say my favourite piece had to have been the ocean landscape!! I've been really into using watercolour lately and can't wait to try out these ideas!! Xx
I liked all of them! Super simple yet beautiful. I’ve been practicing lately and have been getting frustrated. telling us to relax and not think too hard about it helps lol
I love love the floral painting. I also love the way you explain the techniques on how to paint flowers. I just started to learn watercolor and your videos are really helpful.🥰
Jenna, another great tutorial and so helpful for a beginner like me. The biggest take away for me is loosening up!!! Like you said sometimes I am trying toooooo hard. Thanks again!
I like floral paintings with pigment bleeding into each other (like the parrot tulip one). Still need to practise more color theory to master it. Thank you for inspiring me, Jenna! Love your works and tutorials!
Thank you for sharing your talent and personality! Love watching your tutorials. I have never painted or worked with watercolor but that is my plan for this weekend. I love the freedom you encourage and can't wait to play with this simple techniques.

My favorite is the simple yet beautiful tulips. Florals are so calming for me when I paint. Thank you for the pointers and all you do! ♥️
So calming for me too!

That's awesome. I'll try and get more landscapes in the mix!
The florals are my favorite! The simple landscape has some very helpful techniques though.
Glad you liked that Tammy!
I am definitely in a spring flower mood. The tulips are my favorite. My practice put a big dark purple blue almost black tulip as the focal....fun!
Def spring flower moods!

Thanks Veron, I'm so glad you loved it! Have a lovely weekend!
I love the florals and the line exercise. I may start to use that to figure out color for a peice and to loosen up. Thanks for the video.
Awesome! ❤️
The repetitive nature of the patterns definitely makes them the most meditative...
You’re welcome, Eve, thanks for your thoughtful response!

I like floral paintings with pigment bleeding into each other (like the parrot tulip one). Still need to practise more color theory to master it. Thank you for inspiring me, Jenna! Love your works and tutorials!
Thank YOU for watching! I'm glad you're inspired!
The flowers are my favorite! Getting ready to try them now!
Have fun Megan!
I love the idea of painting geometric patterns. I think it will be really helpful when I feel stuck to just make repeating marks on the page!
So helpful!
Hi, Jenna thanks for these watercolour ideas. I love painting florals but I must say the patterns are gorgeous!
Thanks so much!!
Great ideas for watercolor cards. Thanks for sharing.
So good for cards!!
these were really fun! you're an excellent teacher!! Thank you for not putting super loud music on your videos (too distracting)
Thank you for sharing your talent and personality! Love watching your tutorials. I have never painted or worked with watercolor but that is my plan for this weekend. I love the freedom you encourage and can't wait to play with this simple techniques.
Have the best weekend with watercolor, Ginny!! xoxo
