HEY! Happy New Year guys. Just want to say I appreciate all of you that have subscribed, continue to stop by and say hello. I'm jumping on a flight tomorrow and heading somewhere fun...can't wait to share the adventure. Cheers!
Honestly dude. I straight up love how you balance information, seriousness and un-seriousness all at once. It's an art. It's a craft. Subbed ma brotha.
Happy New Year, Omar! Your Fujifilm XT20 videos helped me decide to get back into photography (after a 20+ year break). I got my own XT20 right after the pandemic when travel to other countries was possible again, and I have loved it ever since. Though I now use an XT3 (for commercial work and some travel) my XT20 is still my go-to travel camera for my “favorite countries” like Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan. God bless you with even bigger, sustained channel growth and talent growth this 2025. 😊
Would love you to do a video like what's in my camera bag or what extras you use. On the camera you were using in this video, you had some quick release dongles on there from your strap - what brand is it? What filters do you use (if any).
My friend just got the sony f2 lens. He loves it but he is an award winning street photographer. Saw his recent photos from that lens, its an amazing lens in the hands of a master ! As for me if i were to be choosing between them, I am thinking the Tamron 28-75 G2 is more my cup of tea. Its mostly fixed the bubble bokeh from the G1.. I like macro and landscape, both of which you would use smaller apertures anyway and the Tamron gets real close! However, I already have the 35-150 f2-2.8 so I am happy.. I am not much into wide angle, so I am happy. Thanks for the nice video!
I just bought the Tamron 28-75mm G2 for Nikon, which is improved over the first version. It also has a function button. I saved $1,398.00 over buying the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8, and unless you are pixel-peeping, you will not see any difference in quality. The smaller size and lighter weight of the Tamron are also pluses. Btw, have a great trip!
Maybe for a professional there might be a slight difference but for anyone else it would be a no brainier, you’d go for the Tamron. Ridiculous price for minimal improvement. In several instances I preferred the Tamron anyway!
With the focus changing with zoom, is that not just the minimum focus distance being different for different focal lengths? Or is it true for subjects that are further away too?
In the very first image comparison (leaves), the first thing that went through my mind was, do the colours really matter now with AI filters and software adjustment. And the bokeh, much like way back when, when the first Sigma 50mm f1.4 (non art) lens came out and the bokeh was compared with the Canon 50mm 1.2 ef lens, the Canon bokeh was better but only ever so slightly so, side by side, but even an experienced photographer would have stare for a bit to figure it out. It is rare we need an A+ lens when an A - lens will work just as well.
F2 zooms are great (love my Sigma 18-35/1.8 and 50-100/1.8), but on APS-C they feel very welcome, on FF I feel like f2.8 is probably fine anyway. Buy the whole 24-70 or 28-70 thing has to stop, it needs to die, its too outdated. You are so right that a 20-40 or 20-50 would be more useful, and then a 50-180 would be enough for the other cam. This way you can ditch the wide angle zooms/primes and genuinely go out without lens swapping all day. The 24-105 has the same problem, still not wide enough, still not long enough. Pointless. Give us NEW dual PAIRING zooms that we don't need to swap. There is only one brand making this currently and that is Tamron with their 20-40/2.8 and 35-150/2-2.8.
If you have the money to buy the Sony I would because you could use it a few years and get your money back or close to it selling it used. I would be happy with the Tamaron not worried about rain or snow or banging it etc.
You will likely lose more money with the Sony. Even if it retains 85% of its value - that 15% loss is more costly more than a potential 50% loss on the Tamron.
The Sony seems not so heavy first, but the Tamron is almost half the weight - if shooting a wedding all day long, the difference will be noticeable. In long term I'd say the jump from f2.8 to f2 is not worth the extra weight or money for the Sony.
My 3 years experience with the 28-70/2 does not confirm your estimation. It is pretty much fine for the whole day shooting and I can say that the jump from f/2.8 to f/2 was worth every single penny for me.
@@petrpohnan875 You have 3 years experience with a lens that came out last November? I guess you mean your overall experience, all good. The Sony lens is 3,7k€ here, whereas the Tamron 700ish €. That's a whooping 3k € to go from f2.8 to f2. Sooo... yes, the Sony might be better, but for 3k and almost double the weight? And have in mind, that you can get 1-2 good primes below 3k €. How many gigs do you have to shoot for the Sony to be worthwhile? If money isn't an issue for you then I am happy for you. For other photogs who need to watch their budget the decision is easy.
@@v3n0m161 No, I have 3 years experience with the 28-70/2 which came out more than 6 years ago :-). My estimate is that it did earn for itself in less than a year after I bought it.
@v3n0m161 About the 28-70/2. Should be very clear. For the f/2.8 vs f/2, weight and price discussion it is entirely irrelevant who is the manufacturer. Still it is 28-70/2, still it is very expensive and heavy.
I'm done with Sony lenses. I shoot wedding videos and prefer the small tamron lenses. They all match with the same filters. I also tend to like the slightly less sharp lenses when shooting video of people. I don't put any blurring filters on my lenses as well.
Omar… sorry to trouble, but how would the Sony GM compare to Tamron’s 35-150mm optically, as that’s been said to have superior glass than many of Tamron’s other lenses… a bit like their renewed 35mm 1.4 Di anniversary lens and macro outings?

This is one of the best lens reviews I've ever seen. Concise, useful, just the right amount of detail. Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Sooo appreciate that!!!
I don't even have a Sony, and I enjoyed the video.......cheers and Happy New Year!!
Love your humor! Thank you
It's too short for wedding. I still prefer Tamron 35-150 F2-2.8.
yeah or the samyang even cheaper
I prefer the Sony 24-105mm
Oh, damn! You shouldn't tell me this. I am shooting weddings with my Canon 28-70/2 comfortably for three years and now you told me I can not...
Happy New Year, Omar!

That's awesome! I'm happy to hear that!
Happy New Year, Omar. I love the Payboo card too! I also love when a lens has a close minimum focus distance.
Omar: Does a F2 zoo….
Me: No need to finish that statement…yes!
Gimme to cameras with two primes anyday. Personal preference. Great review as usual though Omar.

I have the new tamron g2 for nikon, it has a bit smoother bokeh the the first version
I got confused about which lens you were talking about when ....

"They gave it to me!"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have this lens in use now for 2 weeks , and the lens just sticks on my camera! I have quite some fast sony lenses as well!
What acoustic guitar is that back there Omar
Taylor koa wood.
Diminishing returns . . . most non-photographers can't tell the difference.

I use 24/50/85 F1.4 so tempted to replace them all with 28-70 F2...
Love the skit with your wife i get that same look from my husband lol. Cheers 2025💫📷💰
Hmm. As you went through the video, I chose the Tamron photos before you gave the answer. 😬
Omar are you all in on Sony now or do you still shoot Nikon too? I recently switched over to Sony. I miss Nikon but I do love the a7iv and a7rV.
@@amirballardsr I bounce around lol. Nikon mostly now. Sony still but Fuji Ricoh and old Canon DSLRs lll
@ I will say, I traded all my Nikon gear to get into the Sony system and it was far more traumatic than I had anticipated! 🤦🏾♂️🤣
Great video. I am buying Neither. LOL I would love either but... I like my primes more.
Group photos are almost always at f8 and the difference between f2 and f2.8 is minor, weddings aren’t even dark.
Here in Calgary BH will be like "Oh you want that? Nah you better come to America loser!" and then I cry. Argh BH we used to be friends.
No HUGE lenses never make sense ! Brw I never use zoom lenses, I only use prime Lenses.
FYI, title should probably say, "a" huge.

I concur, these Sigma Art lenses are fantastic and also great via adapter on a Nikon Z6II. Won’t part from them.
Seems like a very niche lens.
I'm sure the Sony 28-70 f2 is an excellent lens. But, it's not for me. I prefer the 24-70 f2.8 GM II.
Extra stop of light is nice. But same for me, the 24-70 GM II is insanely good and has surprisingly good MFD.

it’s $2,000 more expensive- you get the extra 10% sharpness & f/0.8 aperture and the Sony branding 😹But 28mm Not my thing at all 😹.

The 1st one here🎉

😅 bueno y el sigma?
Not as good as the canon f2 lens
This lens is for a certain breed of 'photographer' who thinks a 2.8 zoom is tOo sLoW and has never stopped down a shot.
Or it's for people who often shoot f1.8 primes who can now replace three of them with one zoom lens. You're thinking from the wrong direction.
There’s a certain breed of “narcissist” who thinks that if something isn’t for them, it’s not for anyone else either.
I'll wait for the Scamyang, Tamoron, or Stigma version
dude... try some positivity in life
