Omar, On the Nikon z6iii you can assign a function button that turns off the brightened preview. When the button is held, the screen displays the image as if without the flash connected. The most convenient way to do this is under the REC button. I have the same Trigger X3.

The on/off switch on the original unit breaks quite easily. I accidentally dropped mine once and the switch flew off. I had to carry a pin to turn it on and off. It is great that they got rid of it. The 3-second delay prevents the flash from turning on in the carrying case. The battery management is quite good on AD200 so I wouldn't need to turn it off and on frequently. It switches into sleep mode when it is idle for a while. When I was shooting in the studio, there were a few times when I forgot to turn it off after a shoot and the battery level did not change the next day or two days later when I found out during another shoot. As for the live view issue, you can assign a function button to turn off the flash.

Hi Omar, great video as always. I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but on Nikon cameras with a flash, if you want to see the ambient lighting quickly, my suggestion is to setup a button to show the "preview". for example my Z9, I have function 2 setup as preview so I can quickly see the aperture depth and also disable the flash compensation on the viewfinder by holding function2. Not sure if this is the desired effect you are looking for but maybe it can help.

Really hit it on the head with the newer products getting rid of mechanical buttons that function like on/off switches for functions like an old flashlight - everything now is seemingly going this ridiculous software regulated route with lag, touch screens, stutters, load-times, and animations. Just wild how utility isn't something newer designers of products seemingly don't test for anymore.

Thank you for the review and honest personal comments. I was not aware of the loss of the simple power switch. I currently have six AD-200 Pro units and the older Godox X Pro N and like them, but ... as much as I would like to have the bright screen on the AD-200 Pro II, the 1/512 low power setting, and the bright modeling light; the cooling fan has me taking pause (can the fan be set to OFF?). The bright display on the new trigger would be great, but it is simply too small for my fat fingers. I am sticking with my setup for now.

With you on the turning on and off the trigger, but just want to note that, at least on the Z6ii and Zf, if you pull up the i menu it'll turn preview back on. Of course the menu is on top of the image, but I find that it's still easy to dial in the ambient exposure even with it in the way. Also want to shout out the Flashpoint R2 Single Pin Transceiver - simplest, easiest, hardest-to-mess-up transceiver that is still packed with features, batteries last forever, it's tiny, and everything is a dedicated button - there are no menus. Only thing is that it does not support HSS, so might not be the best fit for some. Thanks as always for the great video and your thoughts on these.

For my D750 I use a function button to disable the flash, but it stil uses the af assist light of the flash. Sadly, the Z system doesn't activate this light what makes my Z6II unusable at some party's. :-(

Personally I am a fan of the more convoluted power on procedure (on any device). With the older AD200 Pro's I got into the habit of pulling the batteries out of the unit before packing away as they would simply turn on way too easily in transit, same with the triggers. This new method of turning on looks to be pretty fool proof and I can save on space by having the battery inside the unit during travel. It's a pro and con thing but I think I prefer the longer turning on method that outweighs the likelihood of accidental turning on when in bag.
On a separate note, I am thinking of abandoning my AD200's altogether. I recently got the V350F and I think its size, weight and power output is enough for all my event work and I can even use it off camera. I would ask you, how often are you at full power with your AD200's? I rarely do outdoor work, its all reception indoor/theatre work, I'm mixing ambient and strobe light, AD200's are overkill here, so even though they are great bang for buck I am still ferrying around additional weight and power I rarely tap into.

For anyone that already has an OEM flash (or clone) there is a good chance they can still use them if they move to Godox.
