    Welsh Chiefs fan here - excited about this! This is very different from any previous rugby players making the switch to NFL in that he was a legit star in World Rugby. Even Jordan Mailata was really only a youth Rugby player when he went into the NFL IPP. Rees-Zammit is (was) established as one of the best young players in the world. Hope he does well - at the very least, should be a good special teams prospect with possible return ability and legit tackling skills. If anyone can get the best out of him I’d trust Reid and Mahomes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

      Looks like he will be developed on the practice squad next year so I wouldn’t expect to see him at all until the 2025 season at the earliest. He wants to play RB or receiver and after watching his workouts he should give up on receiver right now he’s way to far behind on route running but running back could be a possibility.

      @@aarona222 that’s a fair point - I don’t know much about Hayne as he played Rugby League and Zammit is coming from Rugby Union. The bias Welshman in me would probably give the edge to Zammit as being a bigger name in that he has played more internationals already by a younger age. He’s also entering the NFL at a much younger age than Hayne so hopefully that gives him more time to learn the game and turn into a viable player who can make a 53 roster and stay there longer than Hayne managed. To be fair Hayne even making a roster was an incredible achievement.

      @@cjboyer4355Idk, I still I hope they can put him on the team to play this yr & slowly add him 2 their game!!! I think he should actually learn in the tight end room, cause Travis would be a great leader & teacher & he'd be learning from the best tight end ever!!! And he'd learn how to run routes from Trav & how to get open!!! Andy Reid LOVES the tight end position!!! Ppl talk about how Pat wz & is training & obviously right now has bin w/ Pat in Texas, BUT it wz actually Travis who wz mentoring him his Rookie yr!!!! I guess if he's on the 'Special Teams' he can play!!! BUT I'd still LOVE for him to learn under Travis in the tight end room!!! Not challenging you but can you expand on your thoughts on why this is a good signing on why you think he would be a good player? Other than being 6-3 ,210 and running a 4.4 40... is he a good tackler? Could a potentially switch to defense to be a linebacker if he can't bring any value on offense?

    • @kuton81
      @kuton81 Месяц назад +2

      I don’t think he’s especially known as an exceptional tackler but you have to be at least a solid tackler to make to the international level in Rugby.
      I wonder if picking up a defensive position like linebacker could be harder though?
      Defensive schemes always seem less understandable to me at least and something that might be harder to crack having not played the game from a young age - maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️

But once he gets accustomed to pads and has some games under him, I bet we see him a ton late season and in the playoffs. As a proud Welshman, and a chiefs fan, I could not be happier. I think you are going to be pleased with him. His rugby record is quite outstanding. A full Welsh international at just 19, and a shoe-in for the team ever since, making over 30 appearances. Selected for the British Lions tour of South Africa at the age of just 20! To put that into perspective this is the youngest player for well over 50 years. (For non rugby folk, the British Lions are a select team chosen from all of the UK and Ireland, I.E. England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, who tour once every four years) It's a huge loss to Wales, and rugby in general, but give him a little time, and he will be a fine player. P.S. He can actually catch the ball, something all Chiefs fans will no doubt be happy about, and I think Travis Kelce will appreciate a player who understands about lateraling the ball!

      Appreciate the update. I will say, the whole narrative of rugby being “tougher” than American football is silly. Yes, they don’t play with pads, but in actuality, pads make American football way more dangerous because you can collide at top speed which very rarely happens in rugby.

    Hope he transitions successfully coz he’s got the ability to light it up.
    If he does well, how long before he gets some game time, cause I’m looking forward to his debut.

    I gotta' say, after seeing this signing and somewhat studying the new kick-off rules, this signing makes perfect sense. The way the rules line up, a fast rugby skilled person would be just the thing. If both sides are lined up as close as what I think they'll be, and not able to get a running head start, a rugby style runner/returner is just the thing. Thoughts?

  • @IDWBN

    I agree Cole, this is a fun signing. My first thought is no way he's making the 53. This year will be practice squad and to learn what the NFL is about. Give him to Toub, and let him figure out what the kid can do. Can't wait to see him in preseason.
