    Text in your video mentions problems with the ST-106. I had bought the ST-106 and sent it back because of defective liner lockup. If you read Amazon buyer’s reviews of the ST-106, you’ll see other buyers had problems too. Yet I’ve been pleased with my other Sitivien knives.

      I tend to have different opinions than others. It may be because I acutally test the knives thoroughly an d I take them apart, all the while I pay attention to every small detail. Most reviewers are big picture types who basically "review" how it feels (emotionally) to have the knife.

      @@CanadianCuttingEdge it would be nice to be able to hold a knife in hand before buying it. I've been disappointed to hold knives I've ordered because they looked good, only to find major negatives.

  • @AG-mr2ei

    I have it and did not experience the problems you mentioned. I took it apart completely and reassembled it without issue. No worse than taking apart any other axis lock knife. The one thing that's bothering me about it is the blade a bit off center. Otherwise I'd recommend, as long as you're buying from a place that will exchange it if you get a faulty one.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  Год назад

      I would guess that most of them are fine, but mine should never have left the factory.
      The budget knife brands don't really care about off center blades. Some of the very high production companies are making more of an effort in this regard, so it is slowly getting better. When I was younger no company would care at all if your budget knife had an off center blade.
      I always suggest that people buy from stores that will accept returns/exchanges.

    I took apart a similar/same locking design on a ganzo and had the same troubles . I said the heck with it and left it with one Omni spring . I hardly like the knife because it has lock stick and the blade bounces . It’s the ganzo rat 🐀 inspiration and the ganzo 720 one works flawlessly. I really like the 720 for a woods knife and have been using it for awhile now with zero problems . All I did to it was adjust the pivot , lower angle edge

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  2 года назад +1

      Some companies make it fairly easy to re-assemble an axis lock knife ( like Benchmade - which makes sense) but other companies just make them so hard to deal with. Ganzo makes them a bit tricky to re-assemble.

    well. that's sad. seems you got a bad one. looks like your spring hook angle going into the liner hole doesn't have 90 degrees. i had two of them and they were absolutely fine. disassembly/assembly was easy on both. no joke. but you are right about the handle screws. pretty soft. replaced them on both. i would recommend this knife.
    the 109 is almost the same, but maybe you'd like it better.
    edit: Jufule has the Sitivien contract. so they should be fine. Lemifshe and Kesiwo do the same OEM production.

      Both Sitivien knives that I have had on the channel have been bad ones. The problem with the brand is that yours is one of the better ones, at least from what I have experienced.
      I was able to whip it into shape and make it work quite well, but we shouldn't need to work on knives to make them work well, and even cosmetic issues should be few and far between. There are other Chinese brands that sell for the same price do it much better, therefore I expect better from Sitivien.

    I'm deciding between Sitivien ST110 and newer Ganzo Axis lock models. Lots of user reviews say the Ganzo lock is too stiff and hard on fingers so I've been leaning towards the ST110. I do not care about pocket clip (will remove it anyway), or heavier weight. I do care about durability though.
    Which one would you say will last longer, assuming absolutely no teardown/maintenance and everyday heavy use?

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge

      Ganzo knives in general are quite a lot better quality than Sitivien, at least the low cost Sitivien knives. There are a few Ganzo models with axis locks that are a bit hard on the hands but most are quite good, and I have reviewed over 50 of them, I am very familiar.

    Between the weight and the pocket clip issues you mentioned, I think this is one of those knives that would be better carried in a sheath on a belt w/ the pocket clip removed. IMO, 4+ ounces is just too heavy to be comfortable in a pocket, especially in dress pants. Then again I like my pocket knives to be relatively light-weight and disappear in a pocket. 2 ounces or less is ideal. 3 ounces is borderline too heavy. 4+ belongs in a sheath on a belt.

    • @CanadianCuttingEdge
      @CanadianCuttingEdge  2 года назад

      A lot of others would never carry a folding knife in a sheath. They don't mind 5+ ounces in their pocket. Your opinion on what is too heavy is just fine. Other people have different ideas on what is too heavy for a pocket knife.
      For me, the weight of the knife I will carry is more influenced by the pants I am wearing. If I am wearing linen shorts then I will carry a light knife but if I am wearing a pair of jeans I am fine with carrying a heavier knife, for example. Context speaks to my decisions - I don't have a hard and fast rule that applies in every senario in that regard.

    • @jkirschy
      @jkirschy 2 года назад

      @@CanadianCuttingEdge I normally wear slacks or dress pants at work. And when I'm doing yard work I often wear old slacks or dress pants that are no longer fit for work. Hence my preference for lighter pocket knives.
      As for carrying a folder in a sheath... I grew up carrying a Buck Ranger (112) in a sheath. Dad carried a Buck 110 in a sheath on his work jeans for years... It is just what you're used to.

      I've had two Sitivien knives so far, and I honestly was hoping for a GOOD knife, but both had problems. The odds of that lead me to believe that their quality control is pretty bad. but of course, some of their knives MUST come out pretty good or they simply couldn't continue to exist.

      Eafengrow has been proven to LIE about the steel they use, and on AliExpress a lot of the time Sitivien knives are listed as "Eafengrow Sitivien" which tells me that they are likley the same in that regard too. Any company that is happy to lie is also happy to make low quality stuff.

      @@CanadianCuttingEdge That is true about their steels, but I believe it is a situation they have fixed in their newer models. I would not touch most of their older stuff. @@CanadianCuttingEdge Just be to fair,the LTK guy has had Eafengrow and Sitivien knives tested now for a couple of years. Many of them passed the test. They were real D2 and 14c28n. He shows which specific models they tested and were on his channel. The Russian guy,Nashorn knife channel,knows a lot about certain manufacturers in China. He designed the Petrified Fish Beluga,which they produced and is very popular. He claims that certain Sitivien and Eafengrow,and FreeTiger knives are made in the Hansa plant,where the Ganzo Firebird knives are made. I believe him.Why? I have the Eafengrow Ef954 (LTK tested) and the Ef957. They have the same pivot screws and pocket clips that Ganzo uses. Coincidence? I also have the Sitivien St127,and St126,and ST104 (One of the best tactical/practical designs in my collection,made very well). The St126 and St127 also have the same pivot screws and clips as the Ganzo's do. Now,not all the Sitivien and Eafengrows are like this. I suspect that another manufacturer,Jufule, is making these. They have different pivot screws and clips than the others. But Jufule makes some good knives. I bet some of the freetiger and Tunafire knives were made by them. And they've received good reviews.
      Now,about blade steels. I don't have the most extensive experience in sharpening all the different steels being used in pocket knives. I've only been collecting pocket knives for a couple of years. But I do have years of experience in Chef knives. And I sharpen them on Japanese whetstones. Many Ganzo D2 tested out at over 60 Rockwell. When I first sharpened a Ganzo knife I found them to be very hard. On par with my Japanese VG10 and AEBL. The D2 is "toothier' than Vg10. But I wouldn;t say it's more brittle. I do believe VG10 is better though. It seems to take a better edge and can be made sharper if you take your time and work on it. I also have Japanese SG2 powdered steel knives. The best imo.Rockwell of 62. Chinese D2 in these Eafengrow,Sitivien and Ganzo knives may vary some. But overall they're a hard steel. Much harder than the legendary German Steels of Zwilling Henckels and Wusthof knives. I'd say 14c28n Sandvik is on par with the German high cobalt alloys. Which is around 57-58 Rockwell. It's a good steel,like AEBL or Aus10.Easy to touch up and resharpen on a ceramic honing rod. One last thing. The last four Sitivien and eafengrow knives I bought were very sharp. And the grind is very good. I'm impressed. In my experience, Kubey and Ruike knives are ground well and come factory sharp. These last four were just as sharp. And the Eafengrow Ef957, one of my favorites,is now the sharpest knives in my collection. Only two of my six Bestechs came close to this sharp,the Swift and the Paladin. And they cost almost twice the price. I have four Petrified Fish knives. They came very sharp from the factory. Bestechs were my favorite brand. But these Petrified fish knives are now challenging that.But the Eafengrow and Sitiviens I mentioned were about just as good.And if Eafengrow,Sitivien,and Ganzo start using better ceramic bearings,for a few bucks more, it'd be hard to argue that these other more expensive brands were worth the additional cost. Now for me,I'm extra picky about lock rock and side to side. I've sent a few Kubey,and Freetiger back and got a refund because of this. My last bestech swift also had this problem,just slightly, and so I took it apart and filed the liner and stop down and fixed it. The Sitiviens and Eafengrows I have are rock solid! And they drop shut. Now these models I mentioned are almost as sharp as my Chef knives. Like the Petrified Fish,Kubey,and Ruike's ,they'll shave hair and pass the tomato test. I just got the Sitivien St130, a couple of weeks ago. And it's another good,solid knife. I love the size,shape,and handle feel of this model. It's 14c28n Sandvik steel with Micarta scales. And like the others I bought,under $30 on Amazon,delivered in a couple of days, I think they're the best bargain budget knives you can get. I'm not knocking you Jake,you're my favorite knife reviewer on all the YT channels. But I really like the Sitivien and Eafengrow knives that are being released as of late. Personally,I highly recommend these newer models. I do believe Nashorn (the Russian guy), who shows the same hardware that the Ganzo knives use,are on the Eafengrow Ef934 and others. These are made in the Ganzo factory. I'd bet on it. I think I'll get the Ef934 next. Now if you reviewed these models I mentioned,I think it would be great! God bless you Jake.

That stated, the ST 110 has done very well for me since 2021 when I watched an actual review - with TESTING - of it that had me take a chance on it. Just because I don't show the testing I do doesn't mean I don't do testing. I don't show testing because it's just the same shots of people cutting cardboard and paper and rope etc etc over and over and none of it looks any different from any other. Don't you know that I (and any other reviewer) can make any knife look good or look bad in a cutting demonstration? The video demo of cutting stuff is mostly meaningless, but if that's what you fall for, then watch those videos.
      Second, just because you like yours it doesn't negate my experience with the example that I had in my hands. I can only review the one example of the knife that I have at that time. I've only made 1700 videos, so of course you think I don't know what I am talking about - you are a knife expert, in which case, why are you watching reviews in the first place???
