I bought my '96 F150 4.9L stick shift brand new off the dealer floor. It had 4 miles on it. I had to get rid of it with 59,000 miles on it at 8 years old. It was nothing but trouble with O2 sensors being blown every 10,000 miles. The U joints went three times. The temp sensor went. The steel wheels actually rusted through and leaked air. The starter went at 45,000 as I was pulling a boat out of a lake. I did love driving it when it ran good. Wing windows and a short bed in silver with (eventually) silver aluminum wheels.
@@baconneggs2406 it did look better with the aluminum wheels, though. It's all true. It was a nightmare of repair work. The funny thing is the F150 we had at my workplace was a workhorse with few problems.

I have an 86 f150, and was thinking about doing the exhaust like yours. But now after hearing yours, I may do duals, but I'll keep it quiet. The inline six just doesn't have that rumble like the v8. It sounds more like a loud Model T or a loud 4 cylinder Honda. I don't know how it sounds from the outside driving by me, but when you had the phone on the ground while it was parked, it sounded kinda nice.

They are hard to adjust but once you get them right you can see a lot. Those yellowish leds come in it, thinking about putting the white leds in. They are from spec d tuning at about or above 300$
I'd say put in a 360 or a 351 then you can think about getting headers, because there are no after market headers for those and if they are they would be factory.
Hope this is not too late, but go on out to your local junkyard and grab a set of split manifolds and a y-pipe from an EFI truck. They are just as good as aftermarket headers. Upgrade your intake and carb and these 3 things will increase your power by 50%. She just needs to breathe.
Big ford fan! Love the 4.9, owned an 86 sick with one, but sorry not a fan of the exhaust, I own a 3.5 ecoboost now, and have owned a few! Great engine, my buddy put a dual exhaust on his f150 and it sounds like a Honda…. Just saying
GENERALLY YOU ONLY NEED ABOUT 1 INCH OF PIPE per 100 Hp. so 200 hp would suffice very well with a single exhaust pipe of 2.25 unless you have significant mods that up the HP
Hey Mike i don't know what he paid but i run a Exhaust shop here in Western part of NC and I would charge with "Flowmasters" let's say $375 plus tax. That's from the Header, piping, mufflers, Tips & Labor.. And if you wanted to run cats same deal.
No it’s not made that way. I drive a 96 f150 with same 4.9 and 5 speed. It has dual exhaust manifolds but single exhaust pipe. A single pipe with Flowmaster 70 series 3” stainless piping.
