@ curtis You might have a cpl of things going on, first try and check that it can actually post to safe mode selection, second check bios AHCI settings should be on.

Joshua Wilson you can get disc on ebay, you can download from various sites becareful though, but best thing is to simply borrow it, most people have them laying around in a bag or box the computer came with.

You are quite fine, you can take out hard drive it's what i do but i have tools to make that process easy, You should consider backing up copying and pasting all your PICs and docs etc to a Usb thumb drive or flash drive they are fairly cheap i recommend a minimum 64gb. once you got that done complete the process. keep us all posted.

I just did this and it seems to have worked well except now my dvd player won't recognize games or dvd's. It will play cd's. Checked drivers and they are good. Wizard won't pop up for games or dvd's but will for cd's. Any ideas?
Your dvd burner might be going out, the reload would have no effect on it, also could be application for watching dvds isn't actiavated, usually it's power2go for dvds give it a try and or download a sample\trial player from a reputable site.

Usually If you do factory restore correctly and it says this! means the image is not present. in one of my videos i posted a link to download windows disk.

+Reyna Valadez you might want to have a tech take a look free diagnosis, it should be simple as in video if not something else such as bad reload partition and you may need a disc to reload.

Try searching for recovery in windows, if nothing comes up with hP, you will need to get recovery dvd

some other way for the CQ57 is to press the ESC button during startup, next you can choose recovery ;-)

If computer originally came from factory with windows 8! factory recovery partition should already be on hard drive.

@Juthis Girl, You will more than likely have to try a system restore or get a windows DVD to reload, back up your data first.
also I've taken the hard drive out and it works on their computer fine but when I put it back in mine it won't boot up

Typically you just keep tapping F8 right after the laptop powers on, then select repair PC if option is available.

What happens if you don't check "reinstalling original content" ? Will it just boot up windows with absolutely nothing ?
Usually it ask if you want to install with original data, and that refers to files you have saved on PC originally.

Image may be damaged just get a reload disc with drivers and your good to go, you might try upgrading windows also.
