    The HP Recovery Manager is accessed from the Start Menu, or by pressing the F11 key as soon as you power on. Recovery Manager can be used to restore to factory specs and can also used to make Recovery Disks.

    Some companies have made mods, but you still get a fresh start with the factory defaults or out of the box condition when you do a restore. You just have to remember to backup important data and files.

  • @GregFrench

    Depends on the make and model of the computer. Some have restore disks and others have you press F11 or some other key when the computer first starts. A menu should then appear with some options. You can check the manufactures website for more details. Hope this helps.

    You can restore your Acer to factory settings using the second partition. You can also create a set of restore CDs incase the second partition fails. Important note to remember is that all stored files, data, and installed programs will be lost when restoring. Start the Recovery Management which is program that should already be installed. Hope this helps.

    Most recent laptops have a partition with an image on their hard drive that can be used to restore back to factory settings. The process instructions can be found at the manufactures website. If that is not aqvailable you will have to re-install the operating system. You will need the operating system install files from some external device.

    Could be a number of things from hardware failure to software corruption. I usually keep an updated image and just restore from that. Windows is a beast and requires a lot of maintenance to keep it running well. I suggested my daughter and her husband get MACs and they are now very happy now with their MACs.

    Emachines come with two different types of recovery programs. One is hard drive recovery and the other is disk based recovery. If your system is disk based you will lose all your data or if it a hard drive recovery you can restart your computer and press F11 to start recovery. Recovery will display a menu of options: Should backup your files to prevent lost data.

    I followed your 1st step (pressing F12 during start up) and it appears to be running...
    It's been froze for a few days, I was freaking, but I think with your help I'll get it straightened out. Can't thank you ENOUGH!!!

    Some computers have a restore partition that has an image that can be used to restore the computer to its original factory setup. You can research at the laptop manufactures website to find the instructions specific to your laptop. All drivers would be installed so you should still be able to access the Internet.

  • @GregFrench

    The 2200 has a restore/recovery disk. If you don't have it you get at the HP site. The restore disk usually deletes all saved data. If you have files/data you need to use a LiveCD or boot disk and copy the files from a hard drive to a flash or external drive. I have videos that discuss using a LiveCD or boot disk for recovering files.

  • @GregFrench

    Most newer computers have a partition where a default image is stored. You will have to check the manufactures website to find the procedure for restoring your operating system.

    As you might already know the dwm.exe is the desktop windows manager and is part of vista and 7. DWM can over tax some computers when Aero is running. You can switch your computer to Classic Mode which will reducing the system load that dwm puts on your computer. Hope this helps.

  • @GregFrench

    Yes, the manufactures have created images of the operating systems so you can quickly restore your system when needed. You might need to research which keys to press and when to begin the restore process.

    I have purchased but never used Acronis on a regular basis. Since they now have an F11 recover feature I will have to revisit it.

    I do have some DOS video, but config.sys is used with DOS to load sys drivers. If you have a drive problem it is most likely a bad drive not config.sys

  • @GregFrench

    Depends on when the image was created, but you should still have any pre-installed software after you perform a restore.

    Hello, The LG E500 only comes with a driver recovery CD and not an operating system recovery CD/DVD. You will need to either use the i386 folder on the hard drive or reinstall your operating system from a Windows/Vista installation CD/DVD. You might have to contact the manufacture to see if they will send you an install CD/DVD. Hope this helps. Greg

    I've owned my gateway for 3 or 4 years. Just scan through all possible keys at startup by holding ctrl+alt. and work your way through the F keys while holding ctrl+alt. May take a few startups but you'll find it.

  • @GregFrench
    @GregFrench  11 лет назад

    You should be able to reboot to a CD/DVD to perform a new installation. If you can't use F12 to change the boot options to boot from the CDROM you can change it in the BIOS.

  • @GregFrench
    @GregFrench  13 лет назад

    @TsukiyomiJuri at start up hold alt and press f10 and you will get a menu that pops up and then select restore to factory defaults. If that doesn't work you will need to order a restore CD form the Acer website.

  • @GregFrench
    @GregFrench  13 лет назад

    You need to boot the computer from the USB. During startup you can change the boot start device to USB by either going to BIOS or boot menu. Some computer use the delete or F2 or F12 to change the boot device or enter BIOS.

  • @GregFrench

    @mike84alisha83 Compaq has a recovery partition which can be accessed by pressing F10 at startup. You will next see recovery options, repair-restore-factory recovery. Factory recovery will bring you back to factory defaults.

    A good way to install Windows is a clean install. This gives you a fresh start by removing all the old files and data. If you are still have a lot of the old apps appearing you can do a partition format, or delete the partition, repartition the drive, then format and install Windows. The format will completely clean everything off the hard drive partition including any saves files or data.
    Note: Make sure you first backup any important files and data because they will be deleted.

  • @GregFrench

    You need the computer to select the CDROM as the first boot device. That can be changed in the BIOS. You need to start the computer and press the delete key on most computers to get to the BIOS. Then select the CDROM as the first boot device.

    Dell computers can be restored to factory default by pressing Ctrl-F11 at boot-up, however this feature isn't present in the Latitude series. The Latitude needs a System Recovery CD which comes with it, if it is lost, you can order a new one from Dell.

    Restore to factory default settings will bring the computer back to way it was when you first got it. All programs installed by you and all data and files will be removed. Make sure important data and files are saved to some backup media.

    Some computers have a system restore feature (such as , F12) that resets your computer back to its factory default settings. This also destroys all save files and installed applications. A better option is to create your own restore feature from a second partition where you store files and backup images.

    Yes restore CD will restore from an image on the CD. F12 if it works restores from an image on the hard disk. Your Internet connection might need to be setup again after restoring.

  • @GregFrench
    @GregFrench  13 лет назад

    Your computer should have a built-in restore feature and the manufactures website should have info. Be sure to back-up important files and data because the manufactures restore will delete all installed programs, data, and files saved since you started using the computer.

  • @GregFrench
    @GregFrench  12 лет назад

    The computer should have a restore partition and you should see a blue bar at the top of the screen during start-up. (If you don't see the blue bar the restore function might not be operational.) When you see the blue bar press and hold CTRL and F11 then release both keys. Next you will get a screen that has an option to restore the computer to factory configuration.
    If this doesn't work you will have to contact Dell for copies of the Dell Restore Disks.

    You can try to go back to a good restore point, or install a virus removal program, or use a live boot CD with a virus removal program. I have other videos here that explain how to use a Live CD. If that doesn't work my favorite device is to reimage using Part Image (free) or Norton Ghost. Restoring using imaging takes only a few minutes to restore your computer back to a known good configuration. I have a video on imaging also available. Hope this helps.

    Your right, I have taught 100's and 100.s of students for more than 20 years. I maintained over 1000 computers at 7 different sites daily and I did figure out how to keep things running without spending too much time on one computer. I have also seen too many people that are determined to waste valuable time trying to fix a sick Windows operating system. You need to understand all Windows die a slow death and you cannot stop it only prolong it. Windows has a badly designed registry.
